Grammy-winning Southern roots rock duo Larkin Poe (sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell) join us to chat about their creative process and their exciting forthcoming album, Bloom. PART ONE:'Tis the season! Scott and Paul chat about the classic Halloween songs. Is it time for a modern day resurgence of spooky music?PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell, known to the world as duo Larkin PoeABOUT LARKIN POE:Blues-based rock duo Larkin Poe is comprised of multi-instrumentalist sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. The Georgia natives began their career as an acoustic trio with their sister Jessica in 2004. That year they appeared on A Prairie Home Companion and won the Prairie Home National Teen Talent Competition. In 2008, the Lovell Sisters' song “Distance” won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest grand prize in the country genre. That same year, their song “Time to Grow” received honorable mention in the International Songwriting Competition. After an impressive indie career that included two albums, as well as appearances at Bonaroo and the Grand Ole Opry, the Lovell Sisters disbanded. Rebecca and Megan reemerged as a duo pursuing a new sound that was steeped in the electric blues rather than acoustic and bluegrass music. Between 2010 and 2013 they released five indie EPs, two collaborative albums, and a live DVD. They released their debut album as a duo in 2014 and gained attention with the standout track “Don't.” In 2016 they reissued their debut studio album under the title Reskinned, which included new tracks such as “Trouble in Mind.” With the 2017 album Peach, Megan and Rebecca took the production reigns and continued to build a following. The next year's Venom & Faith reached #1 on Billboard's Blues Album chart and earned the sisters their first Grammy nomination. Their sixth studio album, Blood Harmony, garnered another Grammy nomination, which resulted in their first Grammy win in 2024. Larkin Poe's latest album is called Bloom and is set for release in January of 2025.

Hailing from Australia, the now London-based pop artist Sharl has just released her new album, Clichés. Merging her lovable sound with K-pop influence, the result is a bold and fresh palette, providing pure escapism for listeners and exploring the intense angles of love through ten unforgettable new tracks. Clichés touches on our experiences of love, ranging across all aspects: superficial to deep, fleeting to eternal, problematic to easy. https://open.spotify.com/album/7LFAKq... Hailing from Australia, the now London-based pop artist Sharl, is known for spinning stories from the ups and downs of love and life. As a classically trained musician, Sharl infuses her music with captivating melodies, infectious electro pop beats and heartfelt lyrics which reveal a deep core of resilience and authenticity. Sharl manifests the journey of an indie pop princess on the rise. Following the release of her debut album City Lights, Sharl continues on her fearless evolution on the lead up to her second album, Clichés. Sharl explains, “It's an exploration of the meaning of love: that it can take many forms, which might be seen as clichés, but who are we to judge which aspect of love is better or more meaningful?” Using songwriting as an outlet for her emotions and a form of therapy, Sharl continues, “I wrote the songs reflecting on experiences of love, as ultimately I see love as the universal human truth and experience that endures through the difficulties that life and the world throws at us.” The album includes songs such as “No Other”, a track that feels like falling head over heels into a fairytale world. Through colourful melodies, a throbbing beat and bright brass section, “No Other” packs a punch, with Sharl's soft yet powerful vocals narrating being completely intoxicated by someone. A total juxtaposition to her previous track “Changed Too Much”, which shows a horror side to love, exploring toxicity, regret and hindsight. Drawing comparisons to Taylor Swift, Sharl's storytelling lyrics allows for listeners to envision themselves in the stories, immersing themselves in the music and feeling the emotion of the song. The accompanying music video for “No Other” is a nod to the depiction of Disney princesses as an archetype of fairytale love, released just in time for Disney's 100th anniversary this year. Title-track “Clichés” speaks about that butterfly feeling in your stomach in anticipation that things are finally going to happen with someone who there is undeniable chemistry with. “Clichés” showcases a dynamic and strong beat, creating an innovative sound with a defiant mood in the verse raps. Then there are tracks such as “Fallen” which describes the uncontrollable lust and falling deep for someone through an intense rock/blues inspired sound, as well as the moody and dreamy “Find Me” where we hear the songwriter battling with an internal conflict of seeking out someone who can't commit fully, but they can't let go of the situation even though they know it's not good for them. The talented singer-songwriter has seen success having reached the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition, performing on the main stage at the Virgin Australia AFL Footy Festival, and multiple film festival awards for her debut music video “I Fell In Love”. As an advocate for Asian representation in the music industry, Sharl hopes to inspire people to be who they want in life and not feel restricted by pressures around them.

2018 szeptemberében Tünde megismerkedett Sxmuellel (Samuel Montoya), aki a 2019-es és 2020-as projektjének fő producere lett. 2021-ben Tünde kiadja a Power című, energikus retro számot , amit a Stop Talking követ. #zenész #Bécs #ausztria #podcast https://www.facebook.com/tundeflutefairy https://instagram.com/tuende.jakab https://www.tundemusic.com/ https://youtube.com/@TundeJakab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guOG3cUkayQ&t=20s https://www.oe24.at/video/entertainment/musik/austriahits/neuer-song-feel-no-pain/407716457 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PBK45_1opo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8ttDTgISY4 Tünde édesapja is zenész: https://www.youtube.com/@Zoltan-James-Songs --------

Poitín have performed at festivals across Europe in Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic. As the album says, it's 'one for the road', to go with you and keep you company in your car or on your bike, and this Celtic world music will take you from Ireland to Argentina, from England to Egypt, from Brittany to the Czech Republic and beyond. 15:44 - Poitin “Claudy Banks” from One For the Road 17:58 - AMELIA HOGAN - TAKING FLIGHT Amelia Hogan is an impeccably authentic singer of Celtic music and her heart comes through in honeyed tones on Irish, Scottish, British, and American styled vocals. Obviously, I am the host of this podcast. But I'm gonna read my current bio on my website like I've done with others. Marc Gunn is a Rhythm & Folk songwriter who fuses Irish and Scottish folk songs with pop culture. One brewery called it Sci F'Irish music. His musical weapon of choice is the autoharp. He breathes acoustic Rock and Roll into this folk instrument and adds a bellowing taste of rhythm & blues. Gunn found musical inspiration performing Irish drinking songs. He learned the art of performing at Renaissance faires and from his childhood idol, Elvis Presley, who said, “You've got to put on a show to draw a crowd.” His concerts are fun filled with sing along songs that get the audience's feet tapping. And now for my song… I first heard the song “Peggy Gordon” from a cassette of Irish Drinking Songs I found at Half-Price Books in Austin, Texas. I learned most of my early Irish song repertoire from that album, songs like “Whiskey in the Jar”, “Big Strong Man, “Wild Rover”, “Bog Down in the Valley” and lots more. Their version of “Peggy Gordon” was short, but memorable. I played it on and off for many years. I remember singing it at a pub in Switzerland when I met Heidi and Stef of the Celtic band Bow Triplets. In July 2009, I met my future wife, Gwen, while touring in Virginia. We had this whirlwind romance and began talking on the phone every day and went to see each other as much as possible even while I was out on tour. I was completely mesmerized by her. A few weeks later, I was back in Austin. I was scheduled to record my next studio album with Rich Brotherton. He's an incredible engineer and had done some brilliant work for Ed Miller and lots of top-notch artists in Texas. I was having trouble singing the song. I was pitchy and my voice lacked any real emotion. The lyrics have this great feeling of love and longing. Which is exactly the feeling I was having with Gwen so far away. And so… I closed my eyes, focused on Gwen, and sang. To this day, I still tell people it is one of my best recordings. Because I feel like I nailed it. And then to top it off, Rich Brotherton added some absolutely beautiful guitar work, as he did throughout that album. It is definitely one of my warmest and lushest and best-produced albums. 1:42:07 - Marc Gunn “Peggy Gordon” from The Bridge 1:46:26 - ENDA REILLY Enda Reilly is a folk singer, songwriter and guitarist from Dublin, Ireland. Firmly rooted in the Irish tradition with songs that strive for a better future, Enda Reilly's work invites you to see the world from his varied and unique perspective through each new song and project. From busking on Grafton Street to the National Concert Hall, Enda has performed on countless stages in his hometown of Dublin and beyond. 1:50:46 - Enda Reilly “Christmas True” from Christmas Is With Us 1:54:07 - CLOSING 1:54:22 - THE CHIVALROUS CRICKETS – LORD OF MISRULE The Crickets explore the roots, branches and crossroads of Celtic and English folk and American Old Time music. With equal attention to exhilarating performances and academic rigor, they bring to the stage boldly reimagined arrangements of standards and originals with traditional influence. With a particular focus on song repertoire, they're known for their rich vocal harmonies and fascinating textural blends incorporating over 15 instruments, both modern and ancient. They're a family band comprising two sisters, two couples and childhood friends. Four of their members are full-time classical musicians as well. 2:02:23 - The Chivalrous Crickets “The Lord of Misrule” from A Chivalrous Christmas The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, The Celtfather. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season. Thanks for sharing beautiful Celtic music with us year round. I've been listening to your show for about 15 years, I got a chance to chat with you at the online Boskone you attended in 2020. (On zoom) You talked about how wonderful traveling was. I haven't travelled overseas since 2019 (because of COVID), but in December my wife and I are going to spend a week exploring Iceland. We're very excited. (we'll only have 4.5 hours of sunlight each day, but we hope to see the northern lights) . All the best."
Join your host Greg Howard Jr as he gets to the heart of what makes a musician tick with the incomparable CRISTOVAM!!!Cristóvam is a singer/songwriter from Portugal. Born amongst the deep blue of the Atlantic and the lush green of the beautiful Azores islands, Cristóvam's music shines with a warmth that you won't find anywhere else. Growing up, Cristóvam was surrounded by music everywhere he'd turn - his grandfather was a true radio pioneer who started the second oldest radio of the Atlantic and left behind a massive record collection, which Cristóvam would regularly lose himself in.His love for organic singer/songwriters such as Ethan Johns, Bob Dylan, Ray Lamontagne and indie folk artists including Angus & Julia Stone and Bon Iver is what inspires his music today. Blending these two worlds together, Cristóvam hopes to create something that is both authentic and raw, but with a modern twist.Brimming with euphony, he is soaring back into the scene with his new album Songs on a Wire, a twelve-track offering showcasing the very best of Cristóvam's creativity. In a realm of reflection, his new record highlights key moments from the last two years of his life. He confides, “These were times where I dealt with a lot of different things, from the loneliness of the pandemic which was a bit intensified by the fact that I live in a small and remote island, to other happy things like getting married, getting signed or having my music going viral and reaching so many people and, on to of all that, this sort of big feeling that I was actually starting my life.”Focus track “Ferris Wheel” is a tune that will put a spring in anyone's step, Cristóvam consolidates his status as an exceptional talent. He shares, "When you write songs, if you're lucky, once in a while you write something that you are confident you'll want to play forever. I think Ferris Wheel is one of those songs for me. I had a first sketch of the song and I showed it to Tim Hart, who ended up co-writing the rest of the lyrics with me." His echoic vocal energy flourishes alongside charismatic choruses and flowing melodies to create a tune that escalates with hope. Cristóvam continues, "I feel like the subject of these lyrics is a fragile one. This is a song that speaks about loving someone with bipolar disorder, about the almost transparent and thin line that determines how far you can go in trying to help someone without ending up with a burden that wasn't your own. We've all seen emotionally balanced people fall into the abyss of depression, because they tried too hard to save someone who in the end, didn't want to be saved. This is a song about sometimes having to choose your own mental health and letting go of battles that aren't your own."Cristóvam continues to build momentum across his repertoire and has seen great success, having won first prize in the “Unsigned Only” category for the International Songwriting Competition 2018. The judging panel featured the likes of Tom Waits, Keane, Bastille and Lorde, among many others. Cristóvam has also won two International Portuguese Music Awards (Pop Performance and Song of the Year). With these impressive accolades under his belt and streaming numbers hitting the millions, there's no doubt Cristóvam is going to continue to triumph in the coming year!Cristóvam's WebsiteInstagramFacebookTwitter

I hope no one ever asks me to play it live,” she laughs. Influenced by her family roots and radio hits, Ella switched genres to combine the catchy lyrics of pop tracks with country storytelling. Her first release, “Where is that guy?” gained international interest on internet radio across Canada, New Zealand and Europe while her second single,“Heartstrings” placed as a semi-finalist in the 2019 International Songwriting Competition. Skyler Day is a singer, songwriter and producer with a knack for crafting songs that have the ability to warm your heart and break it at the same time. The LA-based artist recently won second place in the International Songwriting Competition for “The Best Worst Thing”, the closing track on her EP “Songs from the Greenhouse”, which was written, recorded, and produced by Day from a tiny shed-turned-studio in her backyard. Praised by American Songwriter for her “enchanting rasp” and “candid lyricism”, the EP further bolsters Day's reputation for being a raw and honest storyteller. Hollywood Life raves “Songs from the Greenhouse delivers five tracks of Skyler's signature striking songwriting. Case in point: the lead single, “The Best Worst Thing,” whose opening lines (“I hate that you've seen me naked / I hate all those smiles I was faking”) are an explosion of emotion, one that carries throughout the entire EP.” Day has captured the attention of fans across the globe, including GRAMMY-winning artist Kacey Musgraves, who handpicked her for a mentorship that focuses on putting more women on stage at major music festivals, including ACL Festival, where Day had her festival debut in 2021. Starting out in the open mic scene it didn't take long for her to garner local support and make her way to some great stages around the midwest: opening for acts such as Jaime Wyatt, Caroline Spence, Boo Ray, and Sean Watkins. She is a former winner of the awarded Uncommon Ground Songwriting competition; she has been voted as a ‘Judge's Pick' in the Nashville Rising Song contest, and recently had her single Love.Save.Me make it to the semi-final round of the International Songwriting Competition.Nikki finds a way to combine captivating melodies and insightful lyrics with a voice full of raw passion. Her music is unapologetic in it efforts to grapple with real life; and yet elegantly embodies the essence of her “Carolina Soul”.Connect with her and her music at https://missnikkimorgan.com/

Hailing from Philadelphia, America's City of Brotherly Love, Ryan Tennis' music is all about dismantling boundaries and bringing people together. Genre-defiant by nature and with diversity at its core, his rousing songs are infused with the rhythms from the many countries he's visited during his extensive tours. While his performances are dynamic and danceable, Tennis' voice and songs have a disarming sweetness that lowers your defenses and lets you breathe easy. A singer-songwriter and guitarist, Ryan Tennis' style bares a strong influence from the Folk and Rock he grew up with (Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young), a connection with roots soul music that grew in his youth (Bill Withers, Otis Redding, and Sam Cooke), and the energy and rhythms of Colombia, where he has toured and collaborated with some of the country's finest artists. Despite a life that now circulates around music almost entirely, Tennis admits he was a late bloomer when it came to songwriting. Sports occupied much of his time during his teens and into college, playing as a 1AA All-American defensive lineman at Davidson College in North Carolina until the age of 22. That intensity and power that he channelled for football still comes through in Tennis' live performances. Over the last 12 years, Tennis has played 100-200 shows a year and pulled off countless independent tours with shows in the US, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Thailand, and Australia. Since then, Tennis has also released four full-length LPs and two EPs, has fronted a 10-piece "Graceland'' band with the Grammy award-winning South African bass player Bakithi Kumalo, collaborated with Latin Grammy winning artists Nidia Gongora and Hugo Candaleria, and regularly toured South America with Latin Grammy-nominated group "El Caribefunk”. Additionally, he won the Philadelphia Songwriters Project, was selected as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and helped found “Sancochofest” in the City of Tuluá, Colombia. In his hometown of Philadelphia, he curates and hosts “Tracks at the Vale,” a vibrant concert series on the stage he built in his backyard, where the music and the crowd echo the warmth and diversity he has fostered in his music. “Everyone's struggling these days in their own way, including me” Tennis says. “The best way I've found to feel that joy, that flow, that freedom from worry, is when I'm performing, when I feel like I'm channeling something big. When I'm in that place I can open up my own groove, and open it up for other people too.” Ryan Tennis has achieved so much during his time in music and shows little sign of slowing down. His forthcoming single, 'Alligator' is scheduled for release in early September 2021; a taste of what's to come from his forthcoming album later in the year. https://www.ryantennismusic.com/

AB-5 sucks! Covid sucks! Zoom school SUCKS! 2020 pretty much sucked. But you know what doesn't suck? Being an everyday hero like our guest Christiane Cargill Kinney. As an entertainment lawyer, Christiane Kinney has represented Platinum-selling and Grammy-winning artists and estates as well as independent artists, Presidential candidates, festivals, music tech start-ups, artists, and avatars (wha!?). A consummate creative, Chris is also an award-winning singer/songwriter, a voting member of the Recording Academy, and has won numerous awards from Billboard, ASCAP, the International Songwriting Competition, and the Global Music Awards, to name a few. She's been recognized as the #1 Music Law Resource to follow on Twitter (by CD Baby), and was named in Glamour Magazine's Woman of the Year issue for her charity work in bringing music and art programs to at-risk youth in Southern California. A frequent speaker on entertainment law panels, radio talk shows, Chris wrote a regular legal advice column for CD Baby to provide legal guidance to independent artists. Yet somehow on top of all this, she's also a recording musician, a mom of two and still manages to stay constantly upbeat with a wicked sense of humor! In this episode, Steve and Chris discuss the pitfalls and joys(?) of the new normal: Zoom work, Zoom school, house concerts, social media meltdowns, and the melee that is parenting during quarantine. And as if the rest of 2020 wasn't enough, Chris was thrown a curveball along with the rest of us when the entertainment industry shut down in the wake of COVID-19. Undaunted, Chris saw this as an opportunity to found her own entertainment law firm, Kinney Law, P.C. in June of 2020, focusing on ways she could help artists and offset the substantial loss in touring revenue during these unprecedented times. Christiane discovered her love for the piano when she was only three years old. After seeing the musical production “Annie,” she immediately went home and plinked out all the songs by ear. As Chris recalls, “...There were moments in those shows where the artists I'm sure were tapping into the soul of their instruments.” Chris and Steve go on to geek out about their love for pianos and explore what it was that got them into music. As Chris says, “I think every musician will tell you, there's not a choice... you just have to do it... it calls to you in a really deep, meaningful way where, that is what you do.” Will this be the “MOST DEPRESSING PODCAST EVER!”? or will laughter prevail as the best medicine?
