Play Episode Listen Later Sep 23, 2024 17:54

The real reason I started homesteading, the answer may surprise you! I was longing for a simple, unhurried life. I was tired of hurling myself from event to event and answering all the dings of modern technology. I wanted to be calm and peaceful. It just happened that my whole life, as far back as I can remember, all I ever wanted was to be a mom, wife, and homemaker. I found myself in a place where I was living my dream, and I was even blessed with a fantastic business—one where I got to set my schedule and work around my family. But somewhere along the way, I forgot how to have fun and do things just for enjoyment. Life became this long checklist of to-dos, and if I could get them all done before I collapsed, then I had accomplished something, or so I thought. I knew I had to learn to care for myself and escape survival mode. I knew I was not being the mom, wife, and person I wanted to be. Unfortunately, back in the day, I bought into hustle culture. Forgive me, my 20-something self. I thought that if I were ever going to be successful, I would have to work until I couldn't see straight. And if I stopped to take a break, it would all come tumbling down around me. As I started taking time to learn how to make things for my family, one often not-so-tasty meal at a time. I started noticing a peace inside of me, even joy bubbling from deep inside just like the perfect sourdough started, so there's some homesteading humor lol. The more I found myself in the kitchen creating, the happier I was. My family was also happy as my cooking improved, one slightly burnt cookie at a time. I realized that this was the life I was created to live, and for the first time in a long time, I had taken a deep breath, enjoyed the stillness, and knew that this was good. I was on the right path, the path of peace. As I continued on, homesteading was the next right step. Along the way, I discovered what success meant to me and what would truly make me feel successful. It looks a lot different from the world's definition of success. Hustle culture is truly detestable to me, it only leads to burnout. Check out this episode and let me share my definition of success. Maybe it will inspire you to rethink what it means to you! am so grateful for this path. If any of this hits home, please, the right path is just a step away. Enjoy the show! Play Episode Listen Later Aug 26, 2024 22:10

Hey friends! Someone asked me how I got my daily cleaning done in 20 minutes a day. The answer is..I put in a lot of work on the back end to get to this point. I decluttered with reckless abandon . I was ruthless. And guess what? I don't even remember what I got rid of!So that means I really didn't need it. Other than a box of random wires that my husband wanted me to keep and I talked him into tossing it, then one day he needed something from that box and it was gone . But other than that I would say it's a win!I also streamlined my cleaning products and put them in a cute little cleaning caddy, when it's go time I don't even have to think about it. I just look at my list and grab the caddy. In no time I'm done! VOILA Cleaning and decluttering is not the same thing. I used to think cleaning was getting rid of all of the random junk lying around then and then cleaning afterward. These are two different things. Doing them out of order can be overwhelming and take WAY too much time! I don't know about you, but I would rather be outside, at Target or sipping a hot cup of coffee while snuggled up in my slippers.I created a quarterly decluttering schedule, and I can stay on top of the clutter monster with ease! And so can you!! Each January, April, July and October I go through my decluttering checklist. What is my checklist you're wondering?  Here it is!1.Kid's rooms-basically everything inside lol They can be like little squirrels stashing away nuts for winter. I go through drawers, and closets, changing out seasonal items when needed, and tossing clothes that are too worn to wear anymore. Donating clothing that no longer fits them. I look under the bed for random items that were lost or stuffed underneath in a hurried bedroom cleaning so they can outside or get back to what they really wanted to do.2. All closets, which for us are our closet and the coat closet. 3. Garage 4. Van- my mom van can hold a plethora of random items, and they can accumulate quickly, even when I try to stay on top of it! 5. Nightstands 6.Bathroom cabinets 7.Seasonal Items/household items 8.Kitchen Drawers 9.Pantry10. papers-Trash, shred or file.Remember Rome was not built in a day, or in this case unbuilt lol so take it slow and don't get overwhelmed!       Hey Friends! Are you ready for a life update? I turned 39, and it was the best birthday ever! Dinner with family, time with friends, and picking out my very own baby chicks!   We are converting the sweetest playhouse into a chicken coop, and I am redecorating our house. I am craving all things cozy, and it's been so fun! Searching for vintage paintings, I even scored a gorgeous maple wood hutch to store my canning jars, that will soon be filled with food for the winter. The boys are starting football today, it makes me feel like summer is over, but it's not! we will squeeze out every last drop of summer. Enjoy the show!

Hey friend! Have you been caught up in the cycle of following trends? I know I have been stuck in this cycle before. One day you're scrolling through Pinterest..drooling over all of the beautiful homes, so perfectly styled and curated. Then you look around your home and quietly decide that your house isn't up to par? So you get rid of everything you own, paint, and redecorate. Then a year or two goes by..(if you're lucky) and suddenly your gray house is so outdated? If you're thinking to yourself, YEP

Are you struggling to raise children in this modern-day chaos of technology? Video games, smartphones, social media, and all of the platforms? Yeah, me too mama.  Romans 12:4 (write this out and put it up where you can see it daily) Don't get bullied into parenting like the world parents. We have a much better option! Simple but not easy.  And do not be conformed to this world (any longer, with its superficial values and customs), but be transformed and progressively changed (as you mature spiritually) by the renewing of your mind (focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes), so that you may prove (for yourselves) what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect (in His plan and purpose for you).  This is from the Battlefield of the mind bible, amplified version. Featuring notes and commentary by Joyce Meyer. I have a few different bibles, and this is my ALL TIME FAVE! If you are in the market for a bible that is easy to ready, and applies practical, real life, gritty wisdom from a Godly woman this a great investment. The pages of mine are tattered, scribbled, dripped with coffee, and sometimes tears, it's near and dear to my heart. Tho it's no longer pretty, it's well loved and tattered from many years of reading. I love it.  You are the parent and God entrusted you with your children. He knew exactly what He was doing when He gave them to you. You are equipped and called for your mission. Don't take it lightly and don't be bullied or swayed into parenting like the world.  In this episode we cover... Why boredom is good, don't let them lose their sense of wonder. Negative effects of video games.  negative effects of smart phones, social media. All the platforms.  What we can do about it.  spend time with your child, do more listening than talking.   How to pour into their strengths. Let's parent intentionally and not be conformed! Let's dare to live differently and teach our kids to do the same. You got this, mama! xoxo, Alicia
