I recently read a book, titled: “Even if I'm not”, written by Devorie Kreiman, a Mom who went through unimaginable losses. Losing 4 of her children as infants, as well as her adult son, Yossi, a mere 6 weeks before his wedding. Many ask the question: how do you move on? How do you live?
The phone call that changed everything. Completely life altering. Devorah Mirsky, host of the podcast: Digging Deep with Dev, joined me in coversation, unravelling her story of the time when her Dad passed away suddently, in the throes of Covid. She describes her emotions during this time, as she reflects on what the funeral was like and the type of Shivah she experienced during lockdown. Devorah dives deep into her PTSD of daily life, even years after losing her Dad, and what we, as a society, can appreciate about what people go through. She also coined a phrase "they're in a better place condundrum", and gives us her perspective into our responses to others' pain. But more importantly, Devorah gives us a clear lens into who her Dad was. How he showed up, differently, lovingly, with unwavering support for her and her siblings. It's a lesson how we all can strive to be better parents and show up more present for our children. To reach Devorah directly, you can find her on Instagram or Facebook @Diggingdeepwithdev. Their dream? To clothe their customers on the outside and empower them from the inside. Two sisters, Tova and Shira combined forces, for a single brand ~ FRINGE: a beautiful and modest clothing brand and successful boutique. One in Toronto, CA and the other in Hollywood, FL. But there's more than the clothing on the rack. It's the woman, they tell me, who comes into the store and is looking for something specific, to make her feel just right. It's the woman, they tell me, who stands in front of the mirror, with whatever may be happening in her life at that moment, and walks away with a new sense of confidence and self assurance because the clothes fit well and express her just right. Shira and Tova share a heartwarming story how their Bubby Edith is incorporated into their business model - with their EDITH line of classical styles, as well as their Bubby's timeless value's which both Shira and Tova draw on inspiration on how they run their stores. They are also all about helping fellow female entrepeneurs in business... promoting other brands as well. Shira and Tova have a gift for you, dear listener! Stay until the end to find out what it is! I believe that the word selfless takes on many meanings. For some people it's selflessly waking up in the middle of the night to take care of the kids. For others it's giving up of their time to be of service or help to another in need. But the selfless spotlight today is on my guest, Yossi Ajzenszmidt, who shares his story of his selfless protection of our brothers and sisters, when he made the choice to rejoin his unit in the IDF after the atrocities of October 7th. In this episode Yossi shares about his training in the IDF and moving his family to Florida. He then goes into the details about finding out about the attack and massacre of October 7th and his feeling responsible to rejoin his unit and protect his brothers and sisters in Israel. He describes how his family dealt with him being away and what life was like living in a war zone for 4 months. Yossi shares about some friends in his unit who lost their lives, or who were seriously wounded. He describes them for us so their memories will not be forgotten. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/devora-goldberg/message

Julie Liechty and her family endured incredible loss when her daughter Ellison passed away from a debilitating illness. And yet, it was Julie, in the midst of her pain that showed up with a new perspective, a new light, new meaning to every moment of her day. Julie captured my heart and will capture the heart of my listeners too as she shares what kind of girl Ellison was and the light that she was, and continues to be. She describes what it's like as Mom, to experience grief, and still be available to show up for her other daughters, show up for her husband as a supportive wife, and show up for herself in care and compassion. Julie gives my listeners some practical side too - how we, as a society could show up with more compassion for someone we know who has gone through loss and probably carries it around with them constantly. She shared basic actions that we could take to show the other they are surrounded by continuous love and comfort. Julie created a Jewelry brand in Ellison's memory, which is in line with Ellisons passion and love of animals. In addition, Julie's family donates to the Deck My Room fund, which helps families who have loved ones staying in the hospital for long periods of time. What can a teen of 15 teach my adult audience members? A whole lot! In fact I walked away from this interview with so many takeaways and genuine inspiration! Tehilla describes to my audience how she was diagnosed with alopecia before the age of 2; and subsequently lost all her hair. In fact, it's pretty much how she views everyone she sees. Feeling inspired? Well here's more… Listen to this episode to hear how her cousins were embarrassed when walking into a store with her; you'll also find out what Tehilla is doing to help other children with alopecia. But here's the kick! Beyond all this inspiration, Tehilla is a pure role model of how to love your body and do great activities to be strong and fit! Listen to her describe her experience as a ninja warrior, horseback rider and marathon rider (that's just scratching the surface!). And finally, where does Tehilla find the funny in alopecia? Julie Levi Rothchild lives life through her funny lens, as she recalls in this episode how she made Aliyah to Israel 3 time, recounting the hilarious language barriers between her and the natives. She describes how stepping into a profession as a medical clown helped her move past the depression that she was experiencing at the time. But most importantly, was the aspect of helping others - children and their families, when she was part of their health journey, and bringing light to them in their dark hour. Finally, Julie took us back to October 7th - where darkness overtook Israel and the entire Jewish nation worldwide, as we dealt with the aftermath of death, kidnapping, losing loved ones and being a nation at war. How does a comedian deal with darkness you ask? Apparently, there is space for the feelings of darkness, mingled with humor, which Julie expressed in the months following those events. Trailblazing the world of religious Jewish Female music is something Franciska first started at a young, tender age. Being born into a family and Russian culture that promoted musical talent, Franciska had the tools in place to cultivate her G-d given talent. As she shared her music with the world, she describes what the responses of family, friends and audience was like, and how it further influenced the music that she produced. My favorite part of the interview was learning how Franciska built her podcast on non-spoken topics, allowing her audience to connect with her guests, who were perhaps speaking of their life story as well. She isn't afraid to speak her mind (in her calm and gentle way) and have a platform for others to do the same. What does money have to do with it? Everything! According to Yael Trusch, host of the popular podcast: Jewish Money Matters. Say what? What are we celebrating? All sizes. All women. Who want to look beautiful, without feeling the need to be a certain size. Without needing to fit into a style that's not right for them. That's what Rivky's goal looked like when she hit a brick wall, trying to find clothing that fit her & made her look and feel beautiful in them as well. "If you can't find 'em, make 'em" - and that's precisely what she did, as she started her business, Impact Fashion, beautifying her clients, one closet at a time. Here's the catch. According to Rivky, wearing clothes that fit well, at any size, does something magical for your self esteem, your inner self worth; something that she's heard countless of times from her customers. They are so happy that they keep on coming back for more. More classy clothing. Timeless clothing. Clothing that make them feel stylish, modest and comfortable in their own skin. When a Mom's desire for her children is... To thrive. To be loved. To be accepted. To be included. ...even a child with special needs. That's what Sheva desires for all her children, especially her daughter Rozie, who was born with Down's Syndrome. Sheva refused to categorize Rozie with a disability, but rather as a blessing and a light; she also started a blog (which is how I first found out about her :), sharing her journey as a Mom with the world as well. Listen to this episode to hear her Sheva's story, riddled with hard facts, humor and lessons for us all to walk away with. We all have innate desires to grow, be the best version of ourselves as we walk our journey of life. What about people who feel they are stuck? What if their inability to grow lies in the fact that their inner child has been vying for something its' entire life? What if that inner child has been begging to feel love - from Mom and Dad; something she had been waiting for since her infancy... and she carried this void all her life. Working with my client, it became clear that she carried the pain of this void within her for 60 years. And because she didn't RECEIVE the love from the people she loved most, she lived her life WORKING for love instead - Bending backwards for others when they needed things done, offering her services to those around her... all in order to be accepted, "loved" and have others pleased with her. When she felt physical sensations of pain in her body, something inside was telling her that she really wanted to say no to others; that she didn't always want to give in. Each time she ignored that little voice, the pain acted up again. Her body was telling her something profound. That little child within her wanted to feel love, but not from others, not from their validation. But from within. Listen to this episode to find out how my client uncovered the love to give her inner child and how she re-ignited her inner flame of greatness after 60 years! Loved what you heard? What do you do when the doctor says everything is fine? What do you do when your body is still crying out in pain? When the pain is burning in the womb? This is what my client was experiencing when we first started her guided meditation release sessions. She was holding onto a lot. A ton of emotional pain coursed within her; to the point that she felt it as a physical sensation, burning in her womb. She knew that holding onto the stress of abandonment, punishment and feeling sorry for herself, was not the way for her to get past it. In her guided meditation, she started to feel some relief. Clarity. Healing. A calm womb. A happy womb. A womb that was able to function as it was meant to, without holding onto the pain of the past. No one wants to get this letter in the mail. You've been summoned to Jewish court. The plaintiff? My close relative. Beyond the initial shock, fear and disbelief, I found myself wallowing in the discomfort; wallowing in self pity. And it wasn't feeling good. The feeling of being stuck under a rock, with no one to turn to and not seeing any way out. But wallowing in pain was not what I desired. Focusing on my circumstances wasn't moving my needle into greatness. So I asked G-d to direct me on my path. Show me what I need to learn. Show me how to grow into a better person. I asked again and again. And then I went to my favorite place: WITHIN. In a meditative state I found that I was able to access a part of me and show up as a different person. Devorah Halberstam is no stranger to being victim to terrorism. She lost her son Ari on March 1st, 1994, when he was shot on the Brooklyn Bridge, when he was en-route to visiting his Rabbi in the hospital. It was this huge act of terrorism, which targeted young Jewish students, that sent a ripple of fear throughout our nation. Devorah became an advocate for defining terrorism, bringing justice to the perpetrators and educating the NYPD and FBI on all matters related to it. In this episode, Devorah sheds light on the terrorism which unfolded in Israel on October 7th. She defined what terrorism is in our day in age, who the terrorist groups are targeting around the world and what our response, as Jews needs to be. Enjoyed this episode? Tap 5 stars and tell me why! Three decades later, Mom and son reunite. After she abandoned him in a banana box. At the doorstep of a nursing home. Reunion on the TODAY show is emotional. Bringing two people together. As close as a mother and son. But she also gave him up. Because she was too young. She couldn't raise him. She was ashamed of being pregnant. And that's how his life started. Without an identity. Without his birth parents. Left to kind strangers to take him in and raise them as their own. How did this begin? Because she got pregnant by mistake, without considering the outcome. It's easy to hook up. Society promotes that culture. But we're left with teens not knowing what to do when pregnancy occurs. What could we do to reduce those mistakes? Hollywood has taken the empowerment stage for love, relationships, dating and intimacy, letting their fans in on their paparazzi life, to let us know, essentially, how it's done. What they show is a lot of blurry lines of love being short lived, relationships starting and ending pretty quickly and intimacy taking place with anyone and anywhere. Where are the guidelines? How do we make sense out of it? Chana Carlebach, founder of BMC in Montreal (www.centerbmc.com) gives us a fresh perspective of the beauty of intimacy and love, as it stands in the context of the marriage edifice. She describes how Judaism teaches us to embrace the beauty of the physical & intimate connection, being one in mind & body, and communication of the couple around their intimate life.
