In this episode of the Tribesmen Podcast, I sit down with Yakir Wachstock, the founder of Boots for Israel, an organization that's outfitting Israel's reservist soldiers with one of the most basic but critical tools—high-quality combat boots. Yakir shares his unbelievable story of how a 2:30 AM phone call from an IDF Major led him on a mission that's now delivered over 80,000 pairs of boots to IDF reservists across Israel. He opens up about the grind, the miracles, and the powerful connections this journey has created between Jews in America and soldiers on the front lines. This isn't just about boots. It's about brotherhood. It's about action. And it's about YOU realizing the difference you can make when you step up. What You'll Learn: How an occupational therapist from New York stepped up to supply IDF reservists with life-saving boots. The 2:30 AM phone call that launched a mission now helping thousands of soldiers on the front lines. Why proper combat boots are critical for reservists serving 200+ days in extreme conditions. How Yakir turned a simple act into a movement that's delivered over 80,000 pairs of boots—one soldier at a time. The powerful stories and miracles that show how one small action can make an enormous difference. Why the fight isn't over, even in times of ceasefire—and why the need for unity, support, and action is greater than ever. How Boots for Israel is connecting Jews across the world and strengthening Am Yisrael in a time of crisis. What's next for Boots for Israel and how YOU can step up, get involved, and make an impact today. Key Takeaways for the Tribe: ✅ Take Action When You're Called Yakir didn't wait to be an expert. He heard a need and stepped up. So can you. ✅ One Pair of Boots = One Life Changed This isn't about numbers. It's about one soldier, one pair of boots, one act of care—80,000 times over. ✅ Am Yisrael Chai Means More Than Words Support isn't just money. It's showing up, writing a note, packing boots, and being part of something bigger than yourself. ✅ You're Never Too Small to Make a Difference Yakir was “just” an occupational therapist. Now he's leading a mission that's changed tens of thousands of lives. ✅ Our Soldiers Need Us—Now More Than Ever Even in ceasefire, the battle isn't over. Soldiers are still in harm's way. And they're counting on us. Chazak ve'ematz! Yigal P.S. If this episode moved you, take one small step today. Visit bootsforisrael.com, donate a pair of boots, or bring Yakir to your community. Judaism gives us the tools to hold both joy and pain simultaneously. Few understand this better than Rabba Yaffa Epstein, The Jewish Education Project's Senior Scholar and Educator in Residence, who tragically lost her nephew, Yakir Hexter z”l, while fighting in Gaza one year ago. Yakir was much more than a soldier—he was a brilliant Torah student, a talented artist, an athlete, and a bartender with his own signature cocktail. In this week's episode of Adapting, Rabba Yaffa shares Torah in Yakir's memory, drawing wisdom from Ben Zoma in Pirkei Avot and from Yakir himself, emphasizing the responsibility we all have as spectators to step in and make a difference. Rabba Yaffa juxtaposes her grief with welcoming a beautiful baby girl named in Yakir's honor within the same week, reminding us that we can find light and inspiration even in the darkest of times. Sometimes it seems men and women are doomed when it comes to finding alignment in sex and love. Our biological wiring is seemingly totally opposite. The myth that men want and enjoy sex more than women has been propagated for centuries. The argument that marriage mostly benefits women has also been falsely promoted. In this episode of Sex Talk Cafe I interview researcher, scientist and renowned author D. Liat Yakir, who shares her findings on the science of love in an easy to understand conversation. Learn how our biological and hormonal differences can actually be used to bring us closer together and to strengthen long term bonding between partners where love and sex can grow stronger over time, not weaker. The recent killing of 12 Druze children playing soccer in Majdal Shams by a Hezbollah missile sent shock waves throughout Israel. That's only the most recent tragic event, as many Druze soldiers have been killed in the current war, where they have served with distinction in the Israeli army. The Druze are obviously giving and loyal members of Israeli society, and I learned this first-hand when I, along with many others, visited Majdal Shams to pay a condolence call. But who exactly are the Druze, and how do they view the Jewish people and the State of Israel? How can we broaden our horizons in order to become better neighbors and friends with our Druze neighbors, and why should we? In this episode of Defining Moments I host Rabbi Yaakov Kermaier, a former pulpit rabbi in America who upon his Aliya founded Yakir, an organization that seeks to raise awareness about the Druze and foster greater friendship and cooperation; and Shakib Shinan, a member of the Druze community who was a member of Knesset and served in the IDF, and whose son was killed in a terror attack while trying to protect worshipers on the Temple Mount in 2017. Join me to participate in a fascinating conversation, as we take a deep dive into the Druze community.
Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Torah establishes in the Book of Devarim (21:17) that a father must "recognize" ("Yakir") the distinction of his firstborn son by awarding him a double portion in the inheritance. Thus, for example, if a man had three sons, after his death his estate is divided into four portions, two of which are awarded to the firstborn; each of the other two sons then receives one of the remaining two portions. Interestingly enough, the Hebrew word "Bechor" ("firstborn") itself alludes to this Halacha. This word consists of the three letters "Bet," "Chaf" and "Resh," which have the respective numerical values of 2, 20 and 200 – all of which signify the notion of "double." This Halacha applies only if the deceased's first child is male and born naturally (not cesarean.) If his oldest child is a daughter, then the oldest son does not have the status of "Bechor" and does not receive a double portion of the inheritance. Furthermore, this Halacha only applies to the first born of the father, not the mother. The right of the firstborn to a double portion does not apply if the father died, Heaven forbid, before the oldest son's birth. Meaning, if a woman conceived with twins and her husband passed away during pregnancy, the estate is divided evenly between the two twins. As mentioned earlier, the Torah presents the law of the firstborn's double portion with the word "Yakir," which means to "recognize" or "know." This term alludes to the fact that a firstborn receives a double portion only if his father "knew" him," to the exclusion of a tragic case of a firstborn whose father passed away before his birth. If one's oldest child is a son but he was born after a miscarriage, he is nevertheless considered a "Bechor" with respect to this Halacha. Even though a firstborn son after a miscarriage does not require a Pidyon Ha'ben (the symbolic "redemption" of a firstborn son from a Kohen), he is deemed a Bechor as far as inheritance is concerned. A firstborn son thus receives a double portion even if he was born after a miscarriage or several miscarriages, and even if he was born after a stillborn child (or several stillborn children), Heaven forbid. These Halachot apply only in cases where no will was written, and thus the deceased's estate is distributed automatically in accordance with the system prescribed in the Torah. We do not discuss here the issue of if and how one can circumvent these laws by drawing up a will during his lifetime. Summary: When a father's naturally (not caesarean) firstborn child is a son, he receives twice as large a share in his father's estate as his brothers. This applies even if the firstborn was born after a stillborn or miscarriage. It does not apply in a case of a man who dies while his wife was pregnant with twins; since he died before the birth of his firstborn son, the son does not receive a double portion. Warning 18+ Adult Content Lyn talks to Dr. Liat Yakir, author of the book "Brief History of Love," about the biology of love, as well as the three stages of love - attraction, infatuation, and attachment - and the role of hormones like testosterone, oestrogen, dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin in each stage. Dr Yakir looks at the challenges faced in long-term relationships, the importance of maintaining high oxytocin levels, and provides insights on how to sustain a healthy relationship. KEY TAKEAWAYS Love can be divided into three stages - attraction, infatuation, and attachment, each characterised by different hormones and emotions. To sustain a healthy relationship, focus on activities that elevate oxytocin levels such as hugging, kissing, dancing, and sharing burdens. Shift the focus from penetration to overall intimacy, including touch, eye contact, and skin-to-skin contact, to enhance sexual satisfaction in long-term relationships. Learning to fight efficiently and reconcile within one and a half hours after a disagreement can lead to a more stable and fulfilling relationship. Embrace authenticity in relationships, appreciate each other's traits, and prioritise self-love to attract a partner who complements rather than completes you. BEST MOMENTS "We need to divide love into three stages... attraction, infatuation, and attachment. In every stage, we have different hormones that play in our brain and our body." "We named love only the stage that we become crazy about the person or about love, not even about the person, but about feeling to be in love." "We need to understand that this is part of nature, this is part of our biology. We can outsmart it and we can win, but we have to understand that it will take effort." "We need to change how we think about sex... It's not about the number of penetrations but about the times we were sexual with each other, about the intimacy rather than the actual penetration." "It isn't about looking for somebody to complete you. It's about feeling complete within yourself and then attracting a partner that's going to complement you, not complete you." Prior to joining Aqua, Yakir worked as a red teamer.Ilay Goldman specializes in discovering and analyzing novel security threats and attack vectors in cloud native environments, supply chain security, and CI/CD processes. Additionally, Ilay conducts research on open-source security and vulnerabilities. Prior to joining Aqua, he worked as a red teamer. In this interview at Black Hat Asia, Yakir and Ilay explain the complexity of a modern software supply chain, and the dependency of a typical software development cycle on open-source code, and the wide array of tools and platforms. They note that in this supply chain ecosystem, there are many vulnerable tools and platforms trusted by majority of developers. To highlight some examples of these vulnerabilities, Yakir and Ilay divide the development flow of many organizations into different phases – Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), Source Code Managers (SCMs), Continuous Integration/ Development (CI/CD), Package management and more. They point out, for instance, the potential of malicious IDE extensions that may be inadvertently trusted by developers, or how threat attackers could compromise accesses to package manager platforms to impersonate malicious packages. They also share how they found tens of thousands of tokens of open source projects that have been leaked by CI/CD platforms, which could be exploited for lateral movement. Wrapping up, they advise that software developers practice security-by-design – that whilst “security takes time”, fixing the problem later may incur even more costs and time.Recorded 11th May 2023, 11am, Black Hat Asia 2023, Singapore Marina Bay Sands#BHasia #mysecuritytv #supplychain #cybersecurity

How does Ultra-Orthodox Jewish literature describe the male body? What does the body represent? What is the ideal male body? In The Male Body in Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Theology, published in 2021 by Pickwick Publications, Yakir Englander presents a philosophical-theological exploration of the different images of the male body in Ultra-Orthodox literature since the holocaust. The body is not incidental to this community but is the axis by which it tries to understand its meaning and its role in life. In the first part of the book, Englander explains the “problem of the body” and the different ways that Ultra-Orthodox theology deals with it. These different and even contradictory voices can teach the reader about the shifting of ideas inside Ultra-Orthodox thought in the last decades. The second part of the book focuses on the image of the ideal body and describes how the rabbis train their bodies to reach ultimate form. Yakir Englander is a scholar and an activist who teaches at the Academy for Jewish Religion and is also a host on the New Books Network. Schneur Zalman Newfield is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York, and the author of Degrees of Separation: Identity Formation While Leaving Ultra-Orthodox Judaism (Temple University Press, 2020). Too many of us have a mother wound story to tell. A mother wound is often manifested when a mother, whose unhealed personal trauma, be it verbal abuse, emotional abuse, abandonment, caused the mother to adopt toxic coping strategies that developed into character flaws. This character flaws manifest in many ways… it can be an unhealthy way of communicating, emotionally abusive on the child, over controlling, manipulation, constant criticism, guilt trips and neglect. Simply put, if a daughter internalizes her mother's unconscious beliefs (which is some subtle form of “I'm not good enough”) then she has her mother's approval but has in some way betrayed herself and her potential. However, if she doesn't internalize her mother's unconscious beliefs in her own limitations but rather affirms her own power and potential, she is aware that her mother may unconsciously see this as a personal rejection. For 41 years, LW didn't know about Yochi - her older half sister's existence. Finally at the age of 50, Yochi came to America and demanded that LW be told about her. They shared the same father and both had emotionally abusive mothers - LW's mother was codependent and Yochi's mother a narcissist. In 2008, at the age of 40, LW (born and raised in NY) met her half sister (raised in Israel) and they have been the best of friends ever since. This is quite a story.https://lonerwolf.com/healing-the-mother-wound/https://www.harleytherapy.co.uk/counselling/the-mother-wound-under-mothered.htmhttps://upliftconnect.com/the-mother-wound/Yochi's Art - https://www.yochiyakiravin.com/Yochi's Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/yochiyakiravin/LW's Music- https://lisayves.com/
