Did you know that quality sleep is essential for mood, decision-making, and overall well-being? In my latest podcast episode with Amanda Chocko, we delve deep into why sleep is often overlooked and how it impacts our daily lives. She introduces us to her three main pillars for achieving better sleep: Sleep Hygiene: Establish a calming bedtime routine and consistent sleep schedule. Daily Habits: Be mindful of how diet, exercise, and light exposure affect your sleep. Stress Management: Techniques to manage stress effectively before bedtime. These practical tips can make a huge difference in your sleep quality. Amanda Chocko is a Nutritional Therapist, Sleep Coach, and Author of the newly released book - Relax Sleep Thrive: Your 5-Week Journey to Peaceful, Restorative Sleep. Having grappled with insomnia for decades, Amanda decided to take matters into her own hands in 2021 when her sleep issues became chronic. Tired of short-term solutions that failed to address the root cause, she dedicated two years to meticulously researching the science behind sleep. Amanda's deep dive into sleep research resulted in the development of a successful methodology that addressed her own chronic insomnia. Recognizing that many of her clients were struggling with the same sleep issues, she was inspired to pen down her knowledge and experience. This book is a distillation of Amanda's professional expertise, personal struggle, and her determination to help other women find the root cause of their sleep issues and conquer chronic insomnia. Amanda's mission is not just to share her knowledge, but to empower women, helping them understand and manage their sleep patterns. As a mom, we're the thermostat for our family - how we show up and respond to each situation directly influences the way our family does as well. Motherhood can feel so heavy, and even more so when we're sleep deprived, burnt out, and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. My guest on today's podcast interview, Mica Deshaw, is a brilliant pediatric sleep coach who GETS IT. We have both had our fair share of sleep deprivation and we've been where so many moms are at when it comes to infant and toddler sleep. But it doesn't have to be this way! So often, we accept sleep deprivation as the norm. As if it's a non-negotiable component of motherhood that you have to endure, like it or not. That's so far from the truth. Mica speaks all about what sleep training actually is, their signature method at Rested Mama, Happy Baby, how quality sleep can more positively impact both mom AND baby, and a huge opportunity for you to explore future career opportunities as a mom that support your ability to put your family first! There's something for everyone in this episode and we know you'll love getting to know our new friend, Mica. Hello friends! Today I'm talking about something I am lucky enough not to struggle with personally but which so many people do struggle with. And that is sleep. Sleep is my superpower, according to my husband, and I can fall asleep anywhere. Most people do not have this superpower, however, so every now and then I talk to a sleep expert here on the podcast because sleep is the absolute foundation for everything. If sleep isn't dialled in, it's so difficult to work on our relationships with food and our bodies. So today I'm pleased to introduce Amanda Chocko to the show to discuss sleep with us. Amanda is a nutritional therapy practitioner, sleep coach, and author of the book “Relax Sleep Thrive”.Amanda encountered her own struggles with sleep during the pandemic when, in 2020, her insomnia became relentless and rendered her a zombie. That's when she dug into the research and recorded everything she was learning to create a framework to fix her own sleep. Once she got to the root of her sleep troubles, she decided to write a book to help other people struggling with their own sleep and built a sleep coaching program around it. I talked to Amanda about what sleep challenges look like and why they happen, as well as why people who are struggling are also resistant to fighting their sleep issues. Amanda explains the science of sleep, how it's linked to stress, and how schedules are important to maintaining good sleep. She shares advice on restructuring our days and routines to establish a healthy sleep schedule and addresses the questions of what to do if we can't fall asleep and how to get back to sleep if we wake up too early. Amanda understands all the sleep issues - from sleep revenge to sleep debt and establishing a sleep schedule - and she works hard to assist everyone in overcoming chronic insomnia and reclaiming healthy sleep.__About Amanda Chocko:Amanda Chocko is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Sleep Coach and Author of the book, Relax Sleep Thrive: Your 5-Week Journey to Peaceful, Restorative Sleep. When she landed on this path she found a journey that's been equal parts challenging and incredibly rewarding. For years, her passion was helping women navigate the twists and turns of chronic health conditions. She always believed in a holistic approach, using the power of nutrition and lifestyle to tackle even the most stubborn health challenges. It's been her mission to see these incredible individuals regain control of their well-being. But as she worked closely with these women, she noticed something: many of them were battling sleepless nights, just like she had in the past.In 2020, as our world was in crisis, Amanda's insomnia became chronic. She spent her nights staring at the ceiling and her days walking around like a zombie. It was then that she realized she needed to take serious action. So, she rolled up her sleeves and dove headfirst into the research. As Amanda immersed myself in the world of sleep science, she uncovered invaluable insights and pieced together a holistic approach that finally helped her get to the root causes of her insomnia. It was a game-changer, and she couldn't believe the transformation in her own sleep quality. Now, armed with the knowledge, experience, and a newfound sense of purpose, Amanda is dedicating her practice to helping individuals conquer their own sleep struggles. She's been there, done that, and she's here to guide you through the process of reclaiming your nights, one peaceful slumber at a time.__Learn more about Amanda Chocko:Website: AmandaChocko.comBook: “Relax Sleep Thrive: Your 5-Week Journey to Peaceful, Restorative Sleep” by Amanda ChockoInstagramLearn more about Dr. Michelle Tubman and Wayza Health:Website: www.wayzahealth.comFollow me on Facebook and Instagram

Nick Lambe is a long -time coach in the health and fitness industry. He spent the majority of his 1 on 1 coaching working in the rehabilitation setting in close collaboration with physical therapists and other medical providers. It was in this setting that his love and passion for sleep developed. Between the many of his own clients struggling and the seemingly strong link between sleep and recovery time, Nick knew he needed to learn more. He set out on what a multi-year long journey to piece together all he could about sleep and more importantly how to apply it with clients. He instituted sleep coaching as a separate service in the integrated clinic he was working at the time and ended up coaching nearly 100 struggling clients. He then developed The Online Sleep Coach brand to broaden his reach and take his sleep coaching online. In this capacity, he had the pleasure of coaching individuals of all walks including athletes in the NFL, MLB, NBA, UFC and US Olympic team. He provided consultations for many teams and organizations. Beyond his own coaching and consulting, Nick is now making an impact on the sleep space via his Sleep & Recovery Coaching Course as well as the Sleep EdYOUcation which provides education to professionals in sleep coaching. In addition, Nick runs an education company called COACHED geared towards empowering coaches to address the missing links in the health and fitness industry (communication, collaboration, etc.) The company runs regular events including the Raise the Bar Conference. "Ugh, it's 3am, I have to be up at 6... that's in 3 hours. I only went to bed at 11. That means I've only gotten 4 hours of sleep. I'm wide awake. I can't survive off of 4 hours of sleep. Why am I up right now???”Anyone been through this middle of the night spiral full of complicated word problems you thought you left behind in 7th grade? Janet Whalen says NO. MATH. AT. NIGHT!!!! She is a Sleep & Life coach and the founder of Permission to Sleep. As someone who suffered from insomnia herself to now self proclaimed "the world's most amazing sleeper” she shares her tips for those also suffering from the stress of not getting the rest they deserve.First things first, Janet is NOT a doctor. Anyone who may be suffering from problems that could be medical, such as sleep apnea, night terrors, or trauma requiring sleep medication, should seek a sleep study and medical advice from their doctor. Janet is a champion of the idea of embracing wakefulness. She even poses this super deep question, Why do we need sleep? The best way to get sleep and rest is to be calm, so preventing that 3 a.m. freak-out is key. Just because you're awake doesn't mean something has gone wrong. Another factor we discuss is... what's keeping you awake? Your personal drama and anxiety? Aging and hormones? Your partner's snoring? Each requires individual attention and strategies that Janet has ideas for. What about melatonin? That'll solve all my problems, right? Wrong! Janet explains the purpose of this supplement and who really needs it… and what can happen when you're oversupplementing.Sleep is sacred. It's special. It rejuvenates us. But it should not be a source of stress. That's where Janet comes in! Unfortunately, Janet isn't accepting clients at this time. What's Inside:What it looks like to give yourself the rest and sleep you deserve. How embracing wakefulness can actually promote better sleep. The culprit of your insomnia and what you can do about it. Aging, hormones, and their effect on your sleep. The dangers of oversupplementing melatonin? What does sleep medication really do?“Sleep Divorce” may not be as bad as it sounds.I had a ton of questions for Sleep & Life Coach Janet Whalen, what did I miss? Did you know that your tongue may be the strongest muscle in your body? The tongue has 16 muscles and never stops moving even while you sleep. If you're like most people, you were not aware of this fact nor were you aware that proper positioning of the tongue in the roof of your mouth and nasal breathing can improve circulatory and respiratory issues such as asthma and COPD as well as fibromyalgia, ADHD, migraines and so much more. In this episode of Six Weeks to Fitness, I am joined by Becca Rose, the owner of Myofunctional Pathways, LLC. She is a Myofunctional Therapist, Certified Butayko Breathing Instructor, Sleep Coach and Registered Dental Hygienist. Since a very young age, Becca has exhibited an interest in oral health and dental topics. She has been in the dental field since 2004. When she learned about Myofunctional Therapy, the "AH HA" moment happened. She realized that this was the missing piece to some of the symptoms she had experienced in her life. And so the journey began. Since then, she has improved many of her own myofunctional concerns. Now she has the experience and first hand knowledge to help her patients find the missing link to many of their symptoms with determination to find the root cause. “Often, THE TONGUE is the root cause and it is most often the last thing anyone ever thinks of.” Her clients have gained significant, life changing improvements of symptoms! Becca also has an 8 week Performance and Recovery program.
