My health story: Growing up I had a happy, healthy and energetic childhood, all that changed in a heartbeat December 2010 after some severe stomach pain meant I ended up in hospital and subsequently, due to a plethora of symptoms, became completely bedbound for the majority of the next 5 years. Since then, it’s been a long and complicated medical journey resulting in several diagnoses. Being completely honest there is not a single part of my life that my health doesn’t impact in some way. Not that I let it stop me doing what I fully set my mind to, I’ve become very good at coming up work workarounds! I hated the timed mile back in grade school and high school. Remember those days? It was the ultimate test given in PE to see how fit you were.. how fast you were.. or for most kids, a reminder just how much you hated anything to do with running and therefore fitness. Because running was fitness. We were also given “fit tests” as 9 year olds.. how many pull ups can you do? When you set out to identify your specific fitness goal to be achieved in the next 30 days, it must not be related to your weight AT ALL! No weightloss goals of x number of pounds or inches to lose. In fact, you aren’t allowed to step on the scale at all in those first 30 days. And my hope is you don’t actually step on it ever again! Can I let you in on a little secret? As you set your sites on these non weight related goals, chances are the weight will to take a hint and start to come off. It may not happen right away or as fast as you want, but it’s a great side effect to the goals you are already crushing.
Staying committed to an exercise routine is hard work. Forget the fact that we are held up in our homes and have been for the last couple of months, and depending on where you live, the weather may not be suitable to be outside at all. I can honestly say that with OUT my husband supporting me the way he does, I would not be where I am today. I wanted to bring him on to share from his perspective, our lives over the last year as parents to 4 boys with the youngest being just a few months old. But it doesn't stop there! Going your whole life not focused on your health and fitness dramatically changed in 2 major life events for Stacey Thury. The first one was when she became a mom. When it became difficult to conceive her 3rd baby.. especially after the first two were pretty much "on demand", Stacey had to make some changes and decisions when it came to focusing on her health and she talks about what that looked like. The second event in life happened nearly as a result of a book she read and how that changed the way she thought not just about her health, but her life in general. This is when she "became me". Her story is quite incredible as she takes us back to the days of being an athlete, primarily in dance, and how an injury led to her to nearly a decade of learning how to manage chronic pain due to an injury.
