Sometimes, the fire of creativity is struck not by lightning but by the slow, smoldering ache of dissatisfaction. And in today's soul-stirring conversation, we welcome Shawn Whitney, a filmmaker who found cinema not in the corridors of academia, but in the quiet rebellion of self-taught screenwriting and micro-budget filmmaking. Shawn Whitney is a screenwriter, director, and founder of Micro Budget Film Lab who empowers indie creators to tell powerful stories on shoestring budgets. Our journey with Shawn begins not in childhood fantasies of movie stardom, but in the dense woods of Brechtian theater and the quiet study of old black-and-white films. His path wandered, as many worthwhile ones do, through rejection, basement solitude, and heartbreak—until something within him demanded not just expression but transmutation. Shawn didn't study film in college. Instead, he emerged from the theater world and fell into filmmaking after a failed workshop production left him broke and dispirited. Yet that fall became his rise. As he said, “I just started writing screenplays and learning the craft in the quiet shadows.”There's something beautiful in learning the art of story not from glamorous sets or high-priced workshops but from the bones of failed experiments and the echoes of dialogue bouncing around your own mind.Shawn described his education not with fanfare but humility—referencing Sid Field, Blake Snyder, and the ever-controversial Save the Cat—tools that became his spiritual guides, not rigid masters. And with every script, he refined a method. Not the method, mind you. A method. “You just need a method. You can't just be anarchy,” he mused. But perhaps what struck me most was Shawn's philosophy that screenwriting is not just structure—it's an argument about what makes life meaningful. Films, he insists, must be animated not by market trends, but by inner turmoil, by the strange flickering passions of the human heart. “It can't just be about chopping up zombies. Your characters must go through an inner transformation.” That idea—that a film is a living question—sets Shawn apart in a world often obsessed with following the formula instead of feeling the pulse.Shawn's micro-budget films—“A Brand New You” and “F*cking My Way Back Home”—aren't just titles that stick. They are rebellious acts of filmmaking born from limited means and limitless creativity. His stories unfold not in sprawling CGI landscapes, but in human longing, funny sadness, and philosophical absurdity. One film follows a man trying to clone his dead wife in the living room. Another explores redemption from the passenger seat of a towed Cutlass Supreme. With a budget of $7,000 and a borrowed tow truck, Shawn pulled off scenes that feel bigger than most tentpole blockbusters. But filmmaking, for Shawn, isn't just about his own expression. Through Micro Budget Film Lab, he's become a teacher, a mentor, and a kind of mad scientist in the alchemical lab of storytelling. His passion is not merely to direct, but to help others break free from the gatekeeping systems that keep fresh stories from being told. “We need a micro budget movement,” he declared, envisioning a cinematic rebellion where filmmakers use what they have to tell stories no one else dares to.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

Are you struggling with embracing your new identity in Christ? Do you find yourself still battling with your old mindset? Or maybe struggling with sinful habits that it seems impossible to break? Well, tune in as I help you embrace the BRAND NEW YOU!
This message continues the series in Romans - A New Life in Christ, "A Brand New You." January 22, 2023. James Lynch.
This is the beginning of January and the beginning of a brand new year. What do you want to create in 2023? As this is the BEGINNING, we all get a FRESH START. We all have heard of New Year's Resolutions. Many times, we start out strong, and then after we start a new habit, the excitement of our resolution wanes and the real work begins. In this episode, Pam will be talking about some ways that she has developed for creating day to day solutions and habits that are sustainable and lasting. We will also be covering what it takes to celebrate each day as a new beginning. Thinking of resolutions as intentions is much kinder to our whole body system. When intention is coupled with emotional desire, real manifestation is the result. As always, this is a LIVE CALL IN show so please let me know if you have a question about creating some powerful intentions for 2023, ask me for a channeled reading, or healling, or let me know how I can best serve you in this episode. 1-800-930-2819

We are in a world now and forever more where selling will be overwhelmingly digital and remote, and as a result having the right messaging is more important than ever, unfortunately we still see too many organizations pitching their products and services with features and jargon instead of delivering the simplicity and clarity buyers want and need. I’m going to look at Colossians 2:11, 12 where the body of flesh is removed. The personal need that is met or the resulting spiritual provision — Freedom from Sin‘s Control. For example someone falling out of fellowship and serving to focus on themselves where focusing on self is the opposite of what needs to happen to be delivered. The symptoms of not applying the new identity, or results of not knowing, considering, presenting, etc. are as follows. Helplessness and federalism in dealing with sinViewing send superficially two ways of coping with the inability to have real victory are defeat or denial. Action Stepsopenness about besetting sinspatient cooperation with God strategy to change (respond to issues he prioritizes)others-centered focus in spite of sin.“Today’s episode wouldn't exist without Abundant Life. We exist to see lives changed by Jesus, including our own!”“Stay tuned for episode three coming very soon where we’ll be covering what it means to experience real forgiveness through Jesus death and resurrection. Welcome to the Fusion Parent Podcast, the show that equips parents to see Jesus transform their homes one life at a time. I’m your host Les Norman and Tim Holman and I are going to be talking through an episode we’re calling Brand New You. Teaching SegmentTim, I think you have a story for us about learning about identity.Yep, When I was a senior in high school, a long time ago, I was with a friend from church and she was going to introduce me to one of her friends who thought I would hit it off with. She asked me if I was nervous about it and I said “a little”.Then she said something that made it even worse. She said “Just be yourself.”The problem was I didn’t really know who that person was yet. I was such a people-pleaser, I would wait to see how someone would evaluate me before I knew who I was around them. Then I would just become what the person needed at the moment.Q. How do we find the answer to this question all teens ask at this point in life, “Who am I?”Two follow up questions will help grind it to a fine point. To whom do I belong? What am I to contribute?Eph 1:1-13 exercise — How many times is the phrase “In him”, “In Christ”, or some variation of that phrase?Depending on what version you have, it can be seen 7 up to 13 times. The first aspect of our identity in Jesus is ADOPTION. The spiritual provision we receive from being an adopted child of God is the thing we crave the most, belonging and security in this life.Romans 8:14-17 — 14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”If we wait around to find identity in what others say about us, we will have short circuited this incredible spiritual provision as a result of believing what God says about us. Romans 6:9-13 — 9 KNOWING that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so CONSIDER (or reckon, count) yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but PRESENT (or offer) yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Hello and welcome to a very special Monday edition of the BRAND New You show or as I like to call it launch day. Since I spent on last week's regular show explaining the principles behind the book, CareerKred, I won't do that again today. Instead, today's show is about gratitude. Because the book could not have been written without the guests on this show sharing their wisdom and of course without you listening in each week giving me the motivation and inspiration to continue. As I reflect back on writing the book I realize that no good work can be done in a vacuum and that all great works come via teamwork. So thank you for listening each and head on over to Amazon to pick up a copy of the newly released book, CareerKred - 4 simple steps to build your digital brand and boost credibility in your career. When you finish I'd love it if you could also leave a rating and review. Thank you for being here. I appreciate you more than you know.

It's Discover month here on the BRAND New You show. This month I'm taking a deep dive look into how you can become more self-aware during the Discover step of DICE. In today's show I'll be covering the third and final assessment I recommend to help you more self-aware. So today I'll be talking about an assessment I originally took about 3 years ago and it still stands out to me as one of the best. I'm talking about the StandOut assessment by Marcus Buckingham. Understanding what you are naturally good at is critical for you professionally. By engaging in work that requires you to call on your strengths, you will increase your focus and enhance your performance. Discovering your personal brand starts with an understanding your strengths and your inner talents. This is a key step in discovering who you are as a person and what you are good at doing. We've all experienced days where when we reach the end of the day, we've said out loud, “Wow. Today flew by”. Odds are on those days, you were working in your strengths. Those are the days when you StandOut. Wouldn't it be nice if those days happened more often? It can if you understand what makes you StandOut. Do you know what your online profile says about you? The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Welcome to the 51st episode of The BRAND New You show THE podcast dedicated to helping you OWN your BRAND. Each week we meet here to learn how you can use today's technology to own your career, grow your influence and build your personal brand. In honor of Thanksgiving here in the United States, today's show is about Gratitude, specifically the differences between a scarcity mindset and an abundance mindset. THE SCARCITY MINDSET A lot of people I talk to about owning their brand always seem to have an excuse, or I guess it's a reason in their mind, why they think they can't do something or why they don't believe personal branding is a real thing. Most of the time, these folks exhibit what I would say is a deeply engrained Scarcity mindset. Unfortunately for them and for us, they tend to see life as having only so much, and there's not enough to go around. Using the analogy from my discussion with Jared Easley, it might help you think of the scarcity mindset as a pie. The scarcity mindset tells us there is only one pie in existence. Therefore, if someone were to take a big piece of the pie, it would mean there is less available for everybody else. In this way, people exhibiting a scarcity mindset often have a difficult time sharing recognition and credit and being genuinely happy for the success of other people. When they see someone taking what they feel is their piece of pie, they become very self-centered and will do anything they can to keep you from getting a piece of pie. Sadly this is the mindset that exists in many corporate cultures and I'm guessing this reminds you of someone you know? The truth is, I think under certain circumstances we all can develop a scarcity mindset. For example, do you ever take things too seriously? Have you ever thought that if you tried something new and failed, the sky might fall so to speak? Have you ever been concerned about what others might think about you if you do that thing you've always wanted to do, whatever the thing might be? Do you compare yourself to others? Do you want to write a book but as soon as you put the pen to paper you think, why should I write this book - there's already a book on that topic. These are all symptoms of your scarcity mindset at work and this mindset is holding you back. When you think this way, you invite failure in into your life because your negativity becomes an obstacle on your path to success. The scarcity mindset keeps you where you are in your life and in your work. But, if you're going to create a BRAND New You, you need to OWN your BRAND by moving away from the scarcity mindset and embracing the abundance mindset. THE ABUNDANCE MINDSET To see life through the lens of abundance takes a conscious effort on your part especially in the beginning. The abundance mindset comes from a sense of personal worth and security. It comes from owning your brand. When you reach this point, you are no longer concerned about what others might think, you're not concerned about the sky falling or that someone else already wrote a book on the same topic. Getting to this point requires a paradigm shift on your part. You have to see that the pie is no longer limited. There is enough pie to go around. This is an important point so repeat after me: There is plenty for everyone. Say the sentence often enough, it'll become second nature and you'll be well on your way to an abundance mindset. The abundance mindset will enable you to own your career, grow your authority and build your brand. FIVE STEPS TO GAINING AN ABUNDANCE MINDSET 1 - Focus on abundance, not lack. 2 - Appreciation what you have. 3 - Choose to see opportunity. 4 - Carefully select the company you keep. 5 - Give. SUMMARY So what are you thankful for today and what opportunities will you see tomorrow? I'm very grateful for each and every one of you tuning in right now. You have no idea how humbling it is to see your tweets and read your emails of appreciation. It's because of you that I see opportunities where others might see work. Take a few minutes today to focus on what you have, appreciate those around you and remember there is enough pie to go around. As I wrap up here I'll leave you with this quote by Zig Ziglar. "Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.” If you feel so inclined, send me a tweet @RyanRhoten and let me know what you are grateful for today. Don't forget to include the #BNYChat that's BNY as in Brand New You chat when you do.

The step-by-step process I use to make this podcast. Hello and welcome to The BRAND New You show this is THE podcast dedicated to helping you thrive in the reputation economy. We meet here every week to learn how you can Build your personal brand, grow your influence and ultimately Impact your career. Today I'm super excited. Why is that you ask? Well, today is episode #50. I can hardly believe it myself. Especially considering 14 months ago all I had was an idea. There are a lot of people to thank for helping me get to this point, but I'll start with the Stars of this podcast, my guests. All of my guests have been so gracious and it's humbling to me they were so willing to share their time with us. After all time is our most precious asset. I also have you the listeners to thank for clicking the subscribe button and tuning in each week. It's your 5-star rating and reviews on iTunes, your tweets and emails that keep me motivated and inspired to keep going. It's because of you we've hit show #50. Now a lot of podcasts when they hit show 50 or other milestones, like to do a top 10 list of things they've learned along the way. And to be honest, I was planning to do the exact same thing. But, I went back and reviewed the list of topics from my email subscribers. Items one and two we covered with the show on Master Minds and last week's show on Twitter. Believe it or not, number three on the list was “How do you make a podcast”. So I thought it about and decided instead of doing a top 10 list of lessons learned, I'm going to use this podcast to teach you everything you need to know about starting your own podcast.
The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Show notes: http://www.ryanrhoten.com/how-to-twitter/ Welcome to the BRAND New You show. On today's show, I talk about what I believe is the most important tool you can use to build your brand, grow your influence, expand your network, connect with hiring managers, and ultimately impact your career. You may remember from show forty-six about masterminds. I had asked my e-mail subscribers to submit suggestions for topics to cover or people to interview for the show. Twitter was number two on the list. If you've listened to the show for any length of time you know it's no secret that I love Twitter. Which means I was going to do a show on Twitter sooner or later, but to be perfectly honest I was really leaning towards later. Why? Well, simply because Twitter is well-covered ground on this podcast. Then I received an e-mail from a BNY listener named Dan. Dan's e-mail said, "Enjoying the podcast. What do you think is the best way to learn to really use Twitter?" As I was responding to Dan, I thought about it. While we have discussed Twitter on this show several times through the eyes of many different guests, we haven't actually looked at Twitter through the eyes of all of them collectively. So for this show, I've put together a mix tape if you will that combines the advice from several of my previous guests into this one cohesive show about how to really learn to use Twitter. Enjoy. I want to send out a special word of thanks to my previous guests featured in today's show. I personally learned so much from each and every one of you during our conversations about twitter that I knew as soon as I had the idea about putting this podcast together I had to call on each of you again for today's show. I encourage all of you reading this to listen to the shows with Madalyn, Mark, Katrina, John, Hannah, David, and Maria. If you thought the snippets from our earlier conversations were great wait until you hear everything they had to say during each of my discussions with them individually. Mark Babbitt - A World Gone Social Katrina Collier - At Winningimpression.com John Sparks - 365 ideas to go from good to great on Twitter Hannah Morgan - The Career Sherpa David Fisher - Networking in the 21st Century Maria Duron - Know Like Ignite Madalyn Sklar - Madalynsklar.com If you want to learn more about twitter check out Madalyn Sklar's Twitter Smarter podcast and online course as well as her most recent course: Tweeting for Profits. Master Minds Show Notes: http://ryanrhoten.com/mastermindagenda Today on the BRAND New You show I went solo to talk about a topic I get asked about quite often - Master Minds Recently I sent out an email to my newsletter list and asked for feedback and suggestions for topics to cover on the podcast. I received several suggestions and will cover all of the topics submitted in upcoming shows but the topic of master minds won the Pareto chart battle. So let's get into this. WHAT IS A MASTER MIND If you were to ask ten different people to define a master mind you'll probably get ten different answers. I always refer back to the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Written in 1937 as a personal development and self-improvement book, Think and Grow Rich is much more than a book on the secrets of how to gain wealth. It's a philosophy that can be used to help people succeed in all lines of work. The book consists of 13 principles for personal achievement one of which is the Power of the Master Mind. According to Mr. Hill a Master Mind occurs: “When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in Harmony, the increased energy created through that alliance, becomes available to every individual brain in the group.” Or said another way its like a brainstorming session on steroids. Everyone in the group is focused on a single purpose. One idea fuels engagement from other team members and before you know you are all functioning in perfect harmony working to solve or resolve the challenge at hand. When this happens Claudia Alutcher might say the idea machine in the room is running at full capacity. This is the power of the master mind. Surrounding yourself with a group of like-minded individuals for advice, counsel, and cooperation around a single purpose. My single definite purpose to educate and elevate the personal brands and online reputations of career-minded professionals so they get recognized for their expertise by becoming an authority in their niche. Or as I like to say become the google of their niche. Other topics covered include: HOW TO START YOUR MASTER MIND ESTABLISHING GUIDELINES FOR YOUR MASTER MIND HOW TO CONDUCT YOUR MASTER MIND MEETINGS (including a downloadable agenda) SUMMARY And that's it. Every thing I know about starting, running and participating in a master mind. I've been fortunate to be in two master mind groups as I started down my current path. They have helped shaped my thinking, my single define purpose and frankly me as a person both personally and professionally. If you pick the right members they will become a part of your family just like for me Steve Stewart, Dustin Hartzler, Joseph Michael, Brand Heavey and Michael Faron have become for me. Good luck getting started. If you other questions please leave a comment below. I'll answer every question and by keeping your comments on the blog others will be able to see the questions and the answers all in one place. That's all the time we have left for today. I've been Ryan. And I'm out.

David J.P. Fisher | Networking Show Notes: http://ryanrhoten.com/davidfisher Today I welcome to the BRAND New You show David J.P. Fisher president of Rock Star Consulting. David, AKA - MC D Fish to his band mates , is a speaker, entrepreneur, coach, salesman, writer, marketer, yoga enthusiast and salsa dancer. He also happens to be the author of the book Networking in the 21st century: why your network sucks and what you can do about it. The book serves as a guide for modern professionals and walks the reader through the challenges and opportunities that exist in business networking. David believes networking is THE difference between those who get by and those who are getting ahead! NETWORKING IN THE 21ST CENTURY What is networking really? I'm finding most people I ask tend to cringe when I ask for their definition. For some reason networking has a negative connotation for many people. Because of this David likes to let every one define networking in a way that works for them. He mentions however that most of us use a definition for networking that actually holds us back and keeps us from taking action. So think about that for a minute. What's your definition of networking? Does your definition keep you from taking action or does it align closer to Don Orlando's definition? David's definition of networking is: “Building a web of relationships with other people so that you can find mutual support and find business solutions.” Most of think about networking in a formal perhaps creepy kind of way. David challenges this mindset/definition by offering that each of us network every day. In fact, any time we interact with others we are networking. Take a minute and wrap your mind around this concept. Here's a question to get you in the right frame of mind. How did you find your significant other? Was it through an introduction by someone else? Think about the most recent song you downloaded. Did you hear about it from someone else? Did you then tell others about it? That my friends is networking. David and I discuss the common reasons people don't like to network. Have you ever had any of these thoughts. “I don't have the personality for networking." "I'm not built for networking.” “I don't have time for networking." If you've ever said any of these yourself, David offers some great advice on how to get past this mindset and start developing your networking skills. STEPS TO DEVELOP A NETWORKING PLAN David and I spend a fair amount of time talking about how to develop a networking plan. When developing your plan, David cautions to keep it simple and do-able. So simple in fact, you can write it out on a napkin if that suits you. Here are 3 steps to developing your networking plan. 1 - Define your professional goals You need to identify where you want to go professionally. This may sound obvious but David gives us some real life examples of people he's worked with over the years including CEO's who cannot answer this question. You need to know what you are working towards professionally or as the Cheshire Cat says: “If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there.” Don't be the Cheshire Cat. Pick your road strategically and on purpose. 2 - Identify people to connect with Identify 2 or 3 types of people you need to connect with in order to learn more about your chosen direction. David gives an example of someone wanting to be an attorney and suggest in addition to identifying attorneys you want to connect with you may also want to target CPAs who work with attorneys. 3 - Know where these people hang out This sounds simple but again David tells us how easy it is to make mistakes and go to places where your target audience is not. So if you're selling boats you should probably head the marina, if you're selling tools go to where the mechanics hangout. David sees to many people go to the local chamber or other networking events because they have networking in the title. He recommends thinking a couple of layers deeper and even tangentially. NETWORKING TACTICS I struggle with remembering people's names when networking. David offers a few ninja tactics to help you handle remembering someone's name. His first and biggest suggestion is to actually pay attention to the person you are speaking with. He suggests that many of us instead of paying attention are actually thinking about what we are going to say next. GUILTY. Also, it's ok to tell someone you forgot their name and ask them again. Another topic we cover is how to keep the conversation going after your initial introduction. To combat this we discuss a tactic known as the Next Question. The Next Question method is built on the principle established by Dale Carnegie in this famous quote: “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” In order to make this work you need to show interest in the other person. Your tactic should be letting the other person do most of the talking. Ask them questions about how they got to where they are and where their journey is taking them. Keep the questions open-ended. Don't use closed ended questions. If it helps, think of yourself as a reporter. WRAP The best way to get in touch with David is via the following methods. Twitter: @dfishrockstar LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/iamdfish Web: iamdfish.com David has four books on Networking including the newly released book we discussed during the podcast. You can pick them all up at Amazon. Networking in the 21st century - Why your network sucks and what to do about it. Networking in the 21st century - Within your Company. Networking in the 21st century - On LinkedIn. Networking in the 21st century - For millennials. David leaves us with these final thoughts. “Do something. You can't think about networking and see results. You need to take that first step. Action always trumps thinking about something.”

Lynda Spiegel | Career Pivot | Rising Star Resumes Show Notes: RyanRhoten.com/lyndaspiegel Today I welcome to the BRAND New You show Lynda Spiegel founder of Rising Star Resumes. Lynda is a human resources and communications professional with over 14 years' experience in sourcing, recruiting and hiring top talent in a variety of industries. At Rising Star Resumes Lynda helps her clients develop their professional brand in order to get noticed by headhunters and hiring managers. In her role as a career coach Lynda works with mid-career professionals who often are seeking to change careers from one field to another. Lynda offers some unique insights, thoughts and strategies around how to make a successful career pivot. So today we are going to have a straight forward discussion about the realities and un varnished truths of what it really takes to make career pivot. Please help me welcome Lynda to the BRAND New You show. WHAT IS A CAREER PIVOT Lynda's definition of a career pivot is when you want to turn around and do something somewhat radically different, say going from being a teacher to being an attorney. She came to this definition after going through a couple of career pivots in her own career. She started working in equity compensation which she did for several years until one day the company was sold and Lynda very quickly found herself without a job. After moving to a few different jobs Lynda once again found herself in the middle of a corporate takeover. Like many her position she tried multiple times to find a new job in the same field but with no luck. After months of searching her son, a hiring manager for his company, gave her the unvarnished “truth” that, “No one was hiring their mothers.” This was a wake up call for Lynda who decided to put her HR skills and knowledge to work for herself and started Rising Stars Resumes. HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S TIME TO MAKE A CAREER PIVOT Lynda regularly speaks with clients who want to make a career change or pivot. Their reasons vary but a lot of them fall into these buckets: “I'm no longer happy doing what I do.” “My work is no longer fulfilling.” “I'm not making the kind of money I want to make or thought I would be making.” “I'm stuck but I don't know what I want to do.” Any of these found familiar? If so rest assured that you are not alone. Fortunately in today's podcast Lynda hits us with some unvarnished truth about the career pivot process. So if you're considering a career pivot, I've broken the show down into the 6 key steps you'll need to follow in order to make a successful career pivot. Claudia Altucher | The Power of No | Become an Idea Machine | Yoga Show Notes: http://ryanrhoten.com/claudiaaltucher Today I welcome to the BRAND New You show Claudia Altucher. Claudia is a writer, podcaster, speaker and a teacher of Yoga. She has three books to her credit. Her first book is called “The 21 things to know before starting an Ashtanga Yoga practice”. Her second book she co-authored with her husband James Altucher is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Selling book “The Power Of No”. Her latest book, “Become an Idea Machine” is an Amazon best-seller in the Entrepreneurship and Consulting categories. Claudia writes for national media outlets such as the New York Observer, Thought Catalog, and Positively Positive and in her spare time she runs a very successful blog at Claudiayoga.com which has attracted over 2.5 million visitors. At claudiayoga.com you'll find her thoughts and philosophies on all things yoga including her posts, how-to yoga videos and of course her podcast aptly named, The Yoga podcast. You can learn yoga directly from Claudia every Friday morning at 7 am EST when she teaches a FREE 30' YOGA CLASS LIVE via Periscope . If you follow her on Twitter @ClaudiaYoga you'll get the periscope link sent directly to you in your twitter feed every Friday morning so you can join in and follow along. Help me welcome Claudia to the BRAND New You show. POWER OF NO Since a big part of yoga is learning about the power of calming the mind the topic provided a natural transition to Claudia's book, The Power of NO (affiliate link) which loosely aligns with the 7 seven spiritual laws of yoga. In the book Claudia and James break down the word No into 7 different levels starting with the everyday No's as they relate to relationships, jobs or your health. From there they progress to the No inside us. The one that holds us back and can keep us from becoming our true authentic selves. The final chapters are about the No's deep inside each of us. The silent Nos. The ones at our courtroom which wisdom flows. For all seven of the No's Claudia and James offer practical, simple but not easy exercises to help you get to the point where you can use the power of No to help you make significant improvements in your life. BECOME AN IDEA MACHINE Sprinkled throughout the Power of No you find the seeds for Claudia's book Become an Idea Machine: Because ideas are the currency of the 21st Century (affiliate link). Claudia and I start our discussion on becoming an Idea Machine by exploring the concept of an idea muscle. The idea muscle is a figurative muscle but acts very much like the other more tangible muscles in our body. The example she provides to help you visualize the idea muscle will make you believe the idea muscle is real. If you doubt this try this simple test. Take a few minutes right now and write down 10 Apps you'd like to use that have not yet been invented. Go ahead. I'll wait. If you're like me you'll find when you reach idea 5 or 6 you'll get stuck. As Claudia says this is the time when your idea muscle is starting to sweat. You'll be tempted to quit but in order to be successful you have to push through this initial resistance. To help you push past this Claudia suggests instead of listing out 10 apps, list out 20. That's right, she's hard core about this because she knows how effective it can be. If you want to change your life every 180 days start writing down 10 ideas a day. Claudia even provides you with topics for the first 180 days. This is a great book that will definitely make you think. And I mean that literally. SUMMARY The best ways to get in touch with Claudia to learn more about her Yoga practice, her podcast or purchase any of her books are listed below. The email goes to directly to her and not an automated service.Claudia leaves us with these final thoughts to consider. “Do what you know you need to do right now. Whether it's to be physically better, emotionally better, exactly what it is matters less doing whatever it is. Follow and trust your own inner wisdom."

Twitter: @mariaelena Twitter Chat: #BrandChat Website: Knowlikeandignite.com Other Links mentioned during our podcast: Managing Twitter Chats: Nurph Maria left us with these final thoughts and words of advice. "Spend time discovering what your personal brand is. It is going to take some time and research but it's worth it. Don't settle for what someone else thinks you are or what someone says you should do. Never let someone else define you." THE IMPORTANCE OF ONLINE REPUTATION MANAGEMENT “You never get a second change to make a first impression.” Since starting this podcast two key tenets continue to come up over and over again; Networking and First Impressions Even before I started this podcast the phrase was one of the first mentioned to me during my personal branding coaching sessions. In Maria's definition of personal branding she succinctly captures the importance of your first impression; “It's what make you unique, it's your unique strengths, it's the way you present yourself, the way you act, the way you delivery, it is what makes you uniquely you.” The way you present yourself. The way you deliver. In recent times, those two sentences alone would have only applied to meeting someone face to face. But today they apply even while you sleep. So while we've all heard “you never get a second change to make a first impression” used many times before, probably to the point of ad nauseam for some, the situation you associate with the phrase has changed. It no longer applies just to face-to-face meetings. It now applies to all of our meetings and interactions, whether we are physically present or not. It's been changed by the “always on” digital age we live in and understanding how it has changed is important to your career. We must become conscious of the digital impressions we are making each and every day. because It's these digital impressions that can provide us with or cost us opportunities. In my interview with Steven and Irene McConnell, we discussed the future of work and how Price Waterhouse Coopers estimates that by 2022, (only 7 years from now) two out of five of us will be freelancers. 2 out of 5 - That's 40%. If you take the time to look around you'll see the vision Tom Peter's gave us back in 1997, coming true all around us. It's happening even today and the opportunities we receive or don't receive depend on us becoming A Brand New You, a business of one. Maria hits the nail on the head when she suggests you conduct not only an assessment of your offline self, in order to understand your unique promise of value but you also need to take the time to conduct an assessment of your online presence as well. DIGITAL IMPRESSIONS AND YOUR ONLINE BRAND Maria challenges each of us to go take a look at the information about ourselves online because as I've said before, we all have an online profile. Before you squawk at this statement, answer these questions: Do you have a LinkedIn account? Twitter account? Instagram account? Google+? How about Facebook? I know you at least have a Facebook account. GenXer's have flocked to this platform in droves. Many for the wrong reasons. Accounts in any of these social media platforms leaves a digital impression of you for others to find. These digital impressions believe it or not are your digital assets. What do they communicate about you? Are your digital assets aligned with your offline brand? Do they communicate accurately your unique promise of value? If you're like most people, you've probably joined a number of different social media platforms. When you signed up Maria asks, did you ensure you were communicating your brand properly on these platforms or were you really just filling them out? If you were just filling them out, whatever information you provided at the time of registration, it's out there… for anyone to see. And whether you meant for it to be or not, it's leaving a first impression about you for someone else. You never know what the future holds for your career. Take a minute and think about what you want to be doing in seven years? Maybe you're one of the three people who hasn't been downsized or had your role minimized by technology and you're still working for a corporation. Or maybe you're the freelancer, working with clients of your choosing, on projects you select and selling your services to corporations who need them. Either way, you need to know your unique promise of value and you need to make sure your value is properly communicated in both your offline brand and your online brand. I think Maria would agree with Richard Kirby from show 23, we need to be focused on employment security not job security. Knowing your brand, your unique promise of value, and aligning it with what others find about you during a Google search is the best way for you to ensure the opportunities you seek find you. Aligning your personal brand, who you are, with what you do for a living, will help you find the career and job satisfaction you seek. Aligning and actively managing your online reputation, may help you discover opportunities you would have otherwise never known about because you'll be making a great first impression even while you sleep.

Steve knows first hand what debt can do to your life and your career and he has made it his mission to help you pay attention and not interest. Recently, Steve has started coaching want-a-preneurs how to become successful solopreneurs by focusing on helping them understand and avoid one of the top reasons new businesses fail: A lack of cash flow. As a part of this focus Steve is helping budding entrepreneurs plan out their financial cash flow runway so they can Go Pro with confidence. Let's welcome Steve to the BRAND New You show. Recommended book(s) for the show Since I believe that reading is a necessary part of becoming a BRAND New You, I ask all of my guests what non-fiction book are you either reading now or just recently finished. Steve is currently reading a book written by Thomas J. Stanley called: The Millionaire Next Door (Affiliate link) Summary - Most of the truly wealthy in the United States don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue. They live next door. America's wealthy seldom get that way through an inheritance or an advanced degree. They bargain-shop for used cars, raise children who don't realize how rich their families are, and reject a lifestyle of flashy exhibitionism and competitive spending. In fact, the glamorous people many of us think of as “rich” are actually a tiny minority of America's truly wealthy citizens—and behave quite differently than the majority. FINANCIAL COACHING Steve got started in financial coaching after listening to Dave Ramsey. Initially Steve was hesitant to get on board in fact he challenged everything Dave said. Steve eventually came to realize the wisdom behind the words and learned the truth for himself. He decided to follow Dave's advice and eventually eliminated 15K in consumer debt he had racked up by being normal. From his point on Steve has made it his mission to spread the word far and wide about the pitfalls of being normal and the importance of becoming debt free. More than anything, he wants you start paying attention and not interest. CAREER Steve and discuss how debt limits your career choices. In fact, Steve says that you can be trapped in your career because of debt. Consider the expenses required to switch jobs or start a business. Both would be a lot easier to handle with no debt. Other topics Steve and cover include: The differences between debut and credit cards Why employers review your credit history What is a FICO score Steve's opinion of the perfect FICO score Steve and I also discuss the importance of having an emergency fund. Not just from a financial standpoint which is easy to comprehend, but from a mental standpoint as well. Just this past week I wrote about my personal battle with debt, how I handled the mental aspect of carrying a large debt load and how I was able to get out of debt. We also cover how important being debt free is to starting a small side business on your own. STARTING A BUSINESS Because he's been there himself, Steve has recently started helping want-a-preneurs become solopreneurs with financial coaching. We cover the common pitfalls people face as they got solo including: Not having an Emergency Fund Required insurances Taxes Separating business accounts Start up expenses (maintenance, computers, email, software, etc.) VIRTUAL BUDGET COURSE To help you get started quickly Steve has developed a virtual budget course. The course consists of 6 core video with at least 2 bonus videos and other surprises Steve adds along the way. Unlike other courses you may take, Steve's course walks you through a process. This process causes you to communicate with your spouse and prioritize your spending. Steve guarantees you will learn a lot about yourself during this process. SUMMARY Below are the best ways for you to get in touch with Steve to learn more about his course and how debt impacts you career. Dorie Clark | Stand Out | Personal Branding Show Notes: HERE Today we welcome back to the show Dorie Clark author of the just released book Stand Out: How to find your breakthrough idea and build a following around it. For those of you who are traveling along the journey with me to create a BRAND new you, it really is required reading. In Stand Out, Dorie provides us with the roadmap we need to take our personal brands to the next level. Speaking of building your brand online, I've developed an online brand assessment that will help you understand whether or not you Stand Out online. The assessment is free and when you're finished you'll be given a score and a link that will explain your score and how well you stand out online. The best part? Standing out is no longer optional. And with the release of Dorie's book any excuses you may have about “not knowing how to get started” have been erased. How many of you listening to this right now are driving to a job that doesn't fullfill you? How many of you listening feel stuck either in life or in your career? How many of you listening feel, deep down inside, that you are meant for something bigger, something better? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I have one additional question for you: Why? Why are you choosing this direction for yourself, when you know you were made to be so much more. Speaking of choosing your direction I'm reminded of yet another quote from Dr. Seuss: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose”. So which direction will you choose? The well worn path of long commutes, so you can continue being unfulfilled in your work and life? Or will you choose the path of overgrown grass where the destination is not as easily seen and the route not well marked? If you choose the latter, I can tell you it won't be easy but it will be worth it. And now with the release of Stand Out, you have another great resource to help you along the way. Speaking of resources, don't forget to take my 100% free online brand assessment. Inc. magazine has named her one of the “100 Great Leadership Speakers for Your Next Conference,” and she has been recognized in Forbes as one of “25 Professional Networking Experts to Watch in 2015.” REINVENTING YOU - DEFINE YOUR BRAND | IMAGINE YOU FUTURE In 2010, Dorie wrote a post for the Harvard Business Review titled, “How to reinvent your personal brand”. The post went “viral” and Dorie was able to use it as a springboard for her book Reinventing You. More than just the author, Dorie is a practictioner having developed the methodologies by reinventing herself several times throughout her career. She started her career with the goal to become a professor, but was turned down for the doctoral program at the schools she applied. Undetered, Dorie decided to become a journalist and accepted a position in political journalism. This turned out to be a good move for Dorie who moved on the become a press secretary on gubernatorial campaign and later a press secretary for a presidential campaign. Both campaigns resulted in losses. Dorie once again had to adapt, evolve and reinvent herself. During her journey, Dorie realized there was no guide or roadmap to teach people how to reinvent themselves. So she leaned on her own experiences and on interviews with dozens of experts she spoke to along the way and eventually Reinventing You was born. So how do you know it's time to Reinvent yourself? Dorie offers a few suggestions. If you wake up and hate going to work. There is something else other than your work that gets your blood pumping that might be something to start moving towards. During our discussion, Dorie and I cover various topics such as: Suggestions to get started Why it's important to start with a 360 degree review. The importance of having mentors Why we may need multiple mentors along the way How to test drive your new chosen path without leaving your current job. Strategies that we can use to safely learn, take some risks and gain the knowledge that you need for your new path We close this episode with one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes: “Today you are you!
