It's return of the (heart attack) mack. With their third full-length release, Freak of Nature propels the Cleveland, OH natives into a world voilent and void of all emotion. The boys wrestle through what is potentially high art. With bangers like "Stick Up" and "C4" it's hard not to let your incel out a little bit. Rolling Stone said of this episode, "the line between crazy and sane just became a little blurrier."
On this ep we get into the hottest new tunes the world has to offer. New stuff. Good stuff. Stuff you'll be glad you heard us mention. Get your notepads ready as you summer just got a little bit better. We love you, and wanna kiss everyone.
Well boy are you in for a treat! Frontman of America #1 Hot New Band... Tades Sanville. We had a fun time cutting up and talking about their brand new album on Wax Bodega Records, Why Would I Watch. Beyond the verbose song titles, the songs hold substance. A quality that self-professed "lyric band" Hot Mulligan, takes pride in. Tades talks about the gap between albums, the decision to change labels, and the writing process behind such a triump. Makes sure you listen to the new album, and catch them on tour in the US and UK this summer. Catch you all next week for our for Mixtape ep. We're collecting song for the summer, so if you have any suggestions plz send our way. All love... The Cool Guys™
I bet you thought we were never coming back. Well guess what, you're wrong. We are back and we're completely and utterly torqued on this album. Beyond the singles like Feel Something or Misfits, the baby has plenty of meat on the bone. Listen as The Cool Guys™ guide you down a dark corridor absolutely brimming with goblins and ghouls, ready to scream their hearts out for you, which of course... are on their sleeves. Pitchfork described this weeks episode as "chicken soup for the hole." Subscribe and listen next week as we cover the new Hot Mulligan record, Why Would I Watch.
Paramore is back, pod goes punk is back, McRib is back- you thankful yet? In this extraordinarily well-done episode, we go into a bit of context before diving into the tracks. Then, we talk about the excellent titular track, "This is Why" and the similarly propulsive second track, "The News." But we really fell in love with the back half and the more ponderous, spacey folk ballads like the closer "Thick Skull." The Atlantic called this week's episode a "signature retour à la gloire, three artists once more setting the gold standard in a nascent medium." Next week we cover Magnolia Park's 2022 record, "Baku's Revenge!" so listen with us!
If you listen to pod goes punk, you know who The Cool Guys™ are: hard drinking, high octane adrenaline junkies who like their music the way they like their race cars- Fast. Singer-songwriter stuff like Charlie Hickey's 2022 debut Nervous at Night usually doesn't rev the pods 12 cylinder engine… but damn this record is special. The New Republic hailed this episode as “a flag of defiance. Pod Goes Punk boldly sets a new vision for American life.” www.patreon.com/podgoespunk www.coolclother4guys.com
You know when you are so uncomfortably high that you get a little heartburn and for 5 minutes you're dead-ass convinced that you are having heart failure and are about to die? THAT is how high our expectations were for Prince Daddy & The Hyena's self-titled third record. And for good reason! We really dig the band's first LP and EP, with its basement-stoner chuggy vibe and insanely catchy hooks. But P daddy's second record, Cosmic Thrillseekers, took the band to a new stratosphere thematically and sonically. So how do we feel about this new LP? Can it possibly meet our expectations?? You'll see with this episode, which New York Magazine called “a necessarily auditory salve for the Post Roe millennial.”
This is the fourth studio album from the Canada-based rock group, and the third we've covered for the pod. This album is a diversion from the course we expected PUP to take, but it still delivers in big ways with tracks like "Totally Fine," "Robot Writes A Love Song," and "Relentless." Then there are Bright Eyes-Esque interludes that feel like speed bumps on the highway. This is the album that every successful band has to make. The one where their art becomes their job and they no longer are in control. The problem is, that it's not relatable to anyone. It's real and authentic but not overly effective in connecting with the audience. Despite all of that, there are moments where you hear brilliance and somehow that's enough to make this a good album. Peak PUP can square off with anyone.
Oliver Tree is a special person who is famous for his bowl cut. However, in the spring of 2022, Oliver makes like a tree and leaves that look behind. Tree rips through his fucking chrysalis sporting a mullet and a ten-gallon hat. His fit is just like his music... fucking sick. For those saying, "Hey when are we gonna have new Sugar Ray," well this is it. Rife with catchy hooks and clever turns of phrase, Oliver Tree embarks on a path that feels less trodden than the one before. While you can easily catch familiar melodies and chord progressions, no single influence is overwhelming or overdone. A tip of the cap to you pardner.
Sweet Tooth is the first album the band has put out since they did an interview with us. We'd like to think that we inspired a HUGE chunk of this album, and we'd like you to think that too. Regardless, we all really enjoyed this album. It's arguably MJ at their catchiest and with hits like "White Trash Millionaire" and "What's Up?" leading the way, it's possibly MJ at their best. The sugary sweet motif helps draw a thread betwixt the songs, which is the only thing preventing this from being a greatest hits compilation.
This is quite possibly the most popular album we've ever covered. For whatever reason, we have always thought this band was lame, despite the fact that we all secretly like their shit. So, we've decided to be brave and expose ourselves to the world. Sorry for being cringe but we actually think this band rocks. If you think Twenty One Penis is good too, you can go to coolclothes4guys.com and get sick merch. Both the guys from the band wear our stuff. And I know what you're thinking... Are these clothes just for guys? No, it's for all genders, not just guys. The clothes are cool, and there are 4 guys that do the podcast. It's not what you thought at first. The cool clothes are for everyone, not just the 4 guys. I hope that makes sense. The clothes are cool, and these 4 guys are really excited to offer them to everyone.
It's surprising that this album made it 3 years without getting covered by PGP. This self-titled album from Joyce Manor is the second album of theirs that we've covered. The previous was Never Hungover Again. For fans of the band, keep listening, our takes improve after we hear the remastered version. For new listeners, DO NOT listen to the OG black album, the mix is shit. Listen to the new orange one, sounds incredible. Speaking of orange, if you like orange shirts we have some for sale at coolclothes4guys.com. It's for all genders, not just guys. The clothes are cool, and there are 4 guys that do the podcast. It's not what you think at first. The cool clothes are for everyone, not just the 4 guys. I hope that makes sense. The clothes are cool, and these 4 guys are really excited to offer them to everyone.
We've wanted to cover this Canadian crew for a while. Glad we did, because it is chalked full of catchy hooks and anthemic breakdowns. We hope you enjoy it, and let us know in the comments where you land. Also, make sure to go to coolclothes4guys.com to check out our merch.
This week we're back but without our daddy, Sammy. He took some much-needed time away to recharge, and what you're left with is another perfect ep from The Stinky Boyz™. Jordan, Jesse, and Crit go through pop-punk theme songs and soundtracks to showcase their favorite tunes. Easy-listening, laid-back would be two great hyphenated descriptors for this episode. Enjoy.
The Cool Guys™ look back at the vast catalog of bands they've covered and pick their all-time favorites from a couple of different categories. This is a great ep to learn what revs their engines and the subtle differences between their exquisite, expert taste. Buckle up.
This is such a cool album, and if you listen to this episode you can be cool too. Porches are the brainchild of NY-native Aaron Maine, and on this album, he kicks on the distortion and gets a little punk. The album is truly a great listen, and we hope the episode follows suit. We're starting to get pretty fucking confused why one cup of java a month is so damn important to you. Give in already and spend your money more wisely on our Patreon. For only $5/mo you get access to weekly bonus eps. Please give us your money. NOW!
The format for a Daddy's Delight is as follows: One of TCG™ is selected to be the daddy, then the other hosts, as well as engineers, work tirelessly to offer daddy songs that will delight him. For this iteration of DD, Jordan is the big daddy. This episode is chocked full of banger after banger. Prepare to find some new music!
This band's name is no joke "The World Is A Beautiful Place AND I'm No Longer Afraid To Die" isn't that fucking insane?! Not to mention they have a member for every word in the band name. All of that adds up to a really good record and one that we think you're going to like. Please go to Patreon and sign up for bonus episodes every fucking week baby! Not to mention all the past episodes you missed while you were sipping an extra cup of joe a month instead of supporting The Cool Guys™. Please stop not supporting us!
This is the type of music that makes you wanna smash. High intensity, catchy melodies, with drops, chugs, and hooks for days. We had a ton of fun listening to this and honestly can't imagine a single fucking person not sharing that same basic human experience. On God. Sign up for Patreon please. It's one fucking cup of joe a month.
This one was selected by Jordan because he loves it so dearly. Sam and Jesse got to hear it for the first time, listen to hear how this record held up under cross-examination by the other 2/3 of The Cool Guys™. Stay blessed.
We broke the format a little on this one. Started the week off with an album none of us liked, so decided to call an audible and cover one of Spotify's premier playlists. So happy we decided to do it. Be prepared to start adding some artists to your library! Also, the after-hours ep we did following this episode is my favorite all time. Join our Patreon for the cost of one fucking latte a month to hear weekly bonus episodes as well as our entire archive of bonus content.
This was our first episode back after a long hiatus, and boy were we ever glad to be back. Especially when you have a sexy new record from fellow Missourians, Foxing. This album is sick, and we had a lot of fun listening to it. Hope you enjoy!
We're back with a 2 part banger. GAMI GANG dropped in late spring and has since become our collective favorite album we've ever covered. We have on music streaming exec Jesse Jacobsen on to gush over Gami, as we explore songs 11-20.
We're back with a 2 part banger. GAMI GANG dropped in late spring and has since become our collective favorite album we've ever covered. Enjoy with us as we enjoy with Nathan Johnson of the band Enjoyer.
The boys are back, and we're covering an oldie but a goodie. Like other "one-man-band's" Bryce Avery is the titular character in The Rocket Summer. From playing every instrument to writing every word, Avery is a transcendent talent that's oft under-appreciated. Listen and subscribe, and plz for the love of God sign up for our patreon.
Phoebe Bridgers dropped arguably the BEST record of 2020 taking the top spot on several year-end lists. Punisher will face its toughest task yet, as it gets dissected by TCG™. If you like what you hear the best thing you can do is tell all your friends about the show. If you don't have friends, tell us how much you like it by leaving a 5-star rating and glowing review. The Stinky Boys™ are in the house with engineer Crit for a special 4/20 episode. This quick little ep sure packs a punch. Enjoy.
Sam is lost and/or dead. Jesse and Jordan take the reigns with guest host engineer Crit to cover the biggest album of the year. Season 3 begins late September, with tons of eps still to drop. Subscribe so you don't miss any of this shit.

The Cool Guys™ are back to talk about another new-wave pop punk record, Internet Killed The Rockstar by MOD SUN. Stemming from a similar vein as MGK and inspired by the skin slapper himself, Travis Barker, this album takes you on a ride. A ride you'll either come back to and experience the thrill, or swear off indefinitely because of just how different it is. www.podgoespunk.com
Well Cool Fans™.... it's finally here. The moment and podcast we've all been waiting for since the beginning of the podcast era. Jordan's Solo Podjekt is a Candy Coated Sweetie's delight. Pure, unfiltered, unedited, and all Jordan at full throttle. Enjoy this inaugural episode as Jordan takes you through the journey of The Starting Line's EP, Anyways. www.podgoespunk.com

The Cool Guys™ are back to talk about a band they've covered once before and hated by 1 of the 3 (should take long to guess who). But here it is, The Story So Far and their fourth studio album Proper Dose. www.podgoespunk.com
When people say “Rock music is dead,” what they are really admitting is “I haven't listened to the Dirty Nil.” The Toronto based trio seem to borrow from every rock related genre -emo, thrash, indie, hair metal - but somehow create a sound that's entirely their own. Their third record, “F*ck Art” came out the first day of 2021, and it's poised to help all of North America get through this last leg of pandemic fatigue. The Toronto Sun praised this episode of PGP, calling it “briskly paced, expertly informed, and often hilarious.” www.podgoespunk.com
The Cool Guys ™ are here to take on something slightly outside the pop punk genre but firmly within their wheelhouse: Postal Services seminal record, 2003's give up. This episode has been shortlisted for Peabody's “Excellence in Podcasting.” The Indianapolis Star hailed this episode as “a stunner- once again the crew at Pod Goes Punk proves music commentary has never been more timely or necessary.” The New York Times went further, exclaiming that “this episode, with its astute analysis and searing humor, elevated the entire medium.” www.podgoespunk.com
Weezer's “OK Human” is their FOURTEENTH studio record. The length between Ok Human and the Blue Album is now longer than the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace! Anyway, we have a special, funny, and very well qualified guest to help us discuss and assess this new weezer record: Earwolf's own Matt Apodaca, the nicest guy in tinsel town! Enjoy the episode and do yourself a favor and listen to this new Weezer record- it's so much better than it has a right to be. www.podgoespunk.com
Sometimes, the Cool Guys ™ will talk about a record so good that the praise explodes like candy out of a pinata. Sometimes, The Cool Guys™ will talk about a record so awful that the criticism spews like molten lava from an active Indonesian volcano. But the best episodes are when the Cool Guys™ talk about a record so decent, so unremarkable, and so average that the dudes have to improvise. Now, which type of record is Youth by Citizen? You'll only know by listening to this action packed, Grammy nominated episode. www.podgoespunk.com
There are two types of people in this world- people who love the work of Conor Oberst and people who are mean and have bad music taste. At Pod Goes Punk, we are firmly in that first group. We've previously covered the seminal Bright Eyes LP, so this ime around we went smaller, dirtier, and more political- 2002's Read Music // Speak Spanish, the debut record from the Omaha 5 piece front by Conor, Desaparecidos. We are thrilled to be joined by Erik from the Cover Stories podcast on this ep as well- you'll enjoy him as much as The Cool Guys™ did! www.podgoespunk.com
La Dispute had always been a band the Cool Guys ™ knew they would love but, for whatever reason, hadn't listened to yet. So, they jumped into 2008's “Somewhere at the bottom of the river between Vega and Altair” essentially blind. As when Jesus healed Celidonius at Siloam, the boys were miraculously healed of their La Dispute blindness when they listened to this masterpiece again and again. Things get silly, scary and cute as they discuss the merits of this post-hardcore staple. www.podgoespunk.com
When the Cool Guys ™ were seniors in high school, they tried unsuccessfully to get attention from popular girls, watched network tv, and hung out with their moms on Friday nights. What did the guys from The Dangerous Summer do? They got signed by Hopeless Records and made an absolute pop punk classic, Reach for the Sun. Join us and our friend Cam as we dive into this catchy swimming pool. www.podgoespunk.com www.patreon.com/podgoespunk
