Your Dexcom clarity account collects large amounts of data about your blood sugar and can be used by you and your health care team to develop strategies to manage your diabetes. You can gain your health care providers' thoughts and decide how to adjust your treatment. Get ready to flow, stretch and tune inward. No previous yoga experience required. What you'll need: A quiet space in your home, yoga/fitness mat, comfortable clothing, glass of water, your body and your breath. Chelsey Allen, a fellow Huddler, will start the session by leading a 15-20 minute Yoga session - followed by an introduction to mindfulness and a few mindfulness activities. She will then lead our Q&A to answer any questions you have about this topic.
This session will be led by Dr. Suja Srikameswaran, a registered clinical psychologist, past Professional Practice Leader, Psychology, at Providence Health Care, and former Outpatient Psychologist at the Provincial Adult Tertiary and Specialized Eating Disorders Program (PATSED) at St. Paul's Hospital. Dr. Srikameswaran will talk about disordered eating and eating disorders and their presentation and impact on those in the T1D community, how to seek professional support and navigate the health care system, and effective therapeutic approaches. We will also be joined by fellow Huddlers Maureen Duncan, who will share their personal experiences with disordered eating and its treatment. This is a very different kind of Huddle where Sheryl Straza and Tammy Nabata encourage people to share stories from “hitting a wall” and having only enough energy to get by, to surmounting even the most challenging life circumstances. This Huddle includes discussions around how stress impacts blood glucose levels, coping with diabetes distress and burnout, and strategies for overcoming hardships related to diabetes management and navigating the medical care system.

You have probably heard about DIY “looping” for insulin dosing decisions, but how exactly does it work? It can be difficult to know where to start if you're interested in building your own "artificial pancreas". Certain equipment is required, you need to build an app, learn to use a new system and ultimately fine tune your insulin settings. Although it sounds complicated, it's really not! Looping has increased in popularity over the years and there are thousands of T1Ds using the system. In this Huddle, we'll be speaking with three individuals who will share the ins-and-outs of looping with you! She loves to exercise and compete in races, and she is an avid runner, cyclist and hiker. We are honoured to have Dr. Mandana Moosavi host our April Huddle. She will be discussing the day-to-day self-management challenges that she also struggles with as an endocrinologist who lives with T1D. Specifically, she will address the following questions from her perspective: What do you find most frustrating or burdensome about having T1D? What do you worry about the most about having T1D? What are your greatest fears around T1D? We know there are many questions surrounding the virus, pandemic, vaccines and other prevention methods, current research, and safety concerns for individuals with type 1 diabetes. In this session, Gerri Klein will try to alleviate some of these uncertainties by providing the latest guidelines available on COVID-19 and T1D management. Gerri has a Master's Degree in Nursing from UBC and has been a Certified Diabetes Educator since 1998. She served on the Examination Committee for the Canadian Diabetes Educators Certification Board and is a past executive of the Vancouver Chapter of the Diabetes Association Educators Section. She was a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of The Diabetes Communicator for 3 years, a publication offering information to Diabetes Canada's Diabetes Educator Section (DES) members across Canada.
