Hey Friends! As I bring my spouse aboard to work with me, we've had to work hard to keep some things straight, as I'm sure you all know, working with a spouse isn't always easy! I thought I'd share the top 5 strategies to help you effectively manage to work with your spouse as a business partner. This is what works for me anyway! Here it goes: Set clear boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries between work and personal life is crucial for avoiding conflicts and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Consider setting boundaries around time for self-care and alone time, schedules, family time, and decision-making. For example, you might set aside specific times for self-care or alone time, or establish clear schedules for both work and family responsibilities. It can also be helpful to make time for fun and enjoyment to help maintain a positive and balanced dynamic in your relationship. Communicate openly and honestly: Regular communication is key to ensuring that you and your spouse are on the same page. Make sure to discuss your goals, expectations, and concerns openly and honestly with each other, and be upfront and direct about your needs and those of your family. This can help to avoid misunderstandings and build trust and understanding within your business and personal relationship. Establish roles and responsibilities: Defining specific roles and responsibilities within your business can help to ensure that tasks are delegated effectively and that everyone is aware of their duties. Consider assigning tasks based on each person's strengths and preferences, and make sure to communicate clearly about roles and responsibilities to avoid confusion and overlap. Practice conflict resolution: Working closely with your spouse on a daily basis can sometimes lead to conflicts or disagreements. It's important to have strategies in place for resolving these issues in a respectful and constructive manner. This might involve setting aside dedicated time to discuss any concerns or issues, using active listening skills, and finding mutually acceptable solutions. Make time for fun and enjoyment: Maintaining a positive and balanced work-life dynamic is crucial for the success of any business partnership, and this includes finding time for fun and enjoyment. Make sure to set aside time to relax and have fun both within your business and in your personal relationship, whether that means taking breaks to go for a walk or enjoy a shared hobby, or setting aside time for date nights or other activities that allow you to connect and relax together. Overall, the key is to be mindful of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and finding ways to support and encourage each other as you work together to build your business. I hope these strategies will help you effectively manage to work with your spouse as a business partner. Have fun building your business together and let me know how it goes!Resources: Join the SPRINT CLUB HERE Join the FRIENDS CLUB to get exclusive access to bonus episodes, freebies, tools, tips, and resources to empower you to scale in your business and home life. Welcome back, friends! We are now in season 3 of the Homefront Podcast – and It feels so great to be back here sharing with you all! If you don't recall, my last episode aired back in June and what was meant to only be a summer break, really turned into 6 months without recording a single episode! You know what they say, having a business is like having a baby … I'd have to say there are definitely some similarities! So, much like labour – as much as you can have a birthing plan in place, you really have NO IDEA how your specific labour is going to go, and you only have so much control before you throw your hands up and just have faith that everything is going to work itself out, and all will be okay in the end, even if it didn't go as planned. Now, here we are Welcoming you back to Season 3 – and it is only fitting that the theme this time around is Navigating, Adjusting and Growing through our Seasons of Change. After having a wild summer with a jam-packed schedule, I really took some space to dive into where I am right now and what I needed personally. Here are some of the things I have learned and decided to commit to through this season: I absolutely need to STOP over-committing! My Health Working Less and Making more We have so much more to catch up on, but that's all I've got for now. Just know - If you're out there listening and thinking about change during the season you're in, take pause, know you are not alone, it's all a part of your personal journey and gosh dang it - listen to that gut of yours! We've officially plunged head-first into season 3. Thanks for tuning in. I am also super stoked to share some of our amazing guests' stories, successes and tips on how they're navigating through a change in their own businesses and in life. I can hardly wait - and you won't want to miss it.Resources: Join the SPRINT CLUB HERE Join the FRIENDS CLUB to get exclusive access to bonus episodes, freebies, tools, tips, and resources to empower you to scale in your business and home life. THE absolute best thing you can do for yourself, your family and your business…is to start thinking about how things would work without your presence, and start buying back your time for the things you enjoy! AGAIN, back to the JOY! This is something that is more of a mindset over matter. It's really simple to do, but many people I know get stuck here. Well, as I mentioned…it takes a village, so you better start growing and building yours NOW! WHY WAIT ANY LONGER? Listen to the episode to hear 5 quick and easy steps to take action RIGHT NOW, to replace yourself and start buying back your time and scale! Okay, so the word “Network” sounds really nerdy and boring, to say the least, but I cannot stress enough how IMPORTANT it is, or how crucial it has been for both my business and my Homefront thus far. When I say Network, I am referring to the people who have genuine relationships with and who you work with on a regular basis to make things work for you, your business and your family. I mean, who are your peeps!? The peeps that can make or break your business and your life. As you look around you, who is it that you are surrounded by that is not just challenging you to be better, but also who makes you feel fully supported as you are in your business and Home? Who makes you laugh, who thinks of you when someone they know could use your help, who calls you out when you don't meet your goals, who keeps you motivated to continue on when you don't feel like it, who lends a hand when you need it, who pours energy into your relationship/friendship and who do you do the same for in return — without expectations? I think this is so underrated!! We hear all the time that we should block out negativity or not surround ourselves with people who aren't great for us. We also hear that we are a combination of the top 5 people with who we surround ourselves. However, I know many people, especially now, that don't really care to connect or meet new people in general. I think especially with this pandemic, people are liking people a lot less, and tend to retreat to themselves. Although sometimes I don't blame them, I think this doesn't do much for us either! Especially if you are trying to scale your business, your homes and your life in general. For me, I mentioned in an earlier episode that my relationships ARE my number one priority and it is where I should be spending the most of my time. Relationships in work and home are very much intertwined because I am in the service industry. I provide a service to people, which means I am in the business of people. So anyone at any time can be a potential client if they see value in my work. Also, I want to be able to bring value to anyone who wants it or is looking for it. For me, I do not live separate work life/ home life, they are intertwined or integrated. Many of my friends often become clients, and many of my clients, mentors and peers often turn to lifelong friends. Listen in to hear my 3 reasons why I think your network of friends or relationships, in general, is crucial to your ability to scale. In this episode, I go over what I mean by “Build the Business” or “Buy the Business” and how I assess and decide which option to take in order to scale in both my business and my homefront. Hopefully, by the end of this episode, you'll be able to take action to either build it or buy it, for at least ONE thing to help you move the needle in your business or homefront! So, let's first dive into what exactly I mean by Building the business or buying it. Everything in life has a cost. I am sure you have all heard of that phrase, “Time is Money”. Well, although I don't agree that time IS money, exactly – I do believe that time can be exchanged for money. Like I just said, everything has a cost — and how you pay for it, is usually with your time, or your money! Here are 3 Mindset tips that keep me motivated: Understand that there is no pain, no gain! YOU WILL FALL and GET HURT in the process. 2. Find your crowd --- attend events, masterminds, meet with other people who are wanting or already doing what you want in life. 3. Focus on what brings you joy, and Hire the right people in the right places -- keep you accountable for the rest. This is something that I am continuing to work on, and I feel Is the biggest challenge for me today! If you enjoy a task, you are less likely to need the motivation...it will come naturally. I work to keep track and evaluate where I am spending most of my time, and slowly try to decrease the amount of time I am spending in my non-joyous box, and increase the amount of time I am spending doing the things that I actually enjoy doing. I have found that if I focus on joy, I am more likely to COMMIT to it in the long haul and get the results I want. I am more likely to get through all the challenges, without quitting, because, at the end of the day, it is the joy in the journey and outcome that I crave. It is easier to get up and stay motivated when you are limiting your focus on the things you hate and start focusing on the things, and outcomes you enjoy. So with that being said, it takes practice and time to stay motivated. I am still working on it also! There will always be days that you “don't feel like it” -- But, to be quite frank, you will only be COMMITTED to the things you actually want in life. Not what you think, you want, or what someone else wants you to want. So, get really honest with yourself and start small...start journaling a list of the things you enjoy doing or the outcomes you enjoy, and keep a record of those that you don't. Just a simple list would work. When you're ready, you can begin handing off those things that just simply don't serve you, whether it's negative people in your life that suck the energy out of you, or its a task that is so tedious and daunting you want to crawl into a fetal position - let it go. When you let go of those things and tasks you can allocate that time to other things. It will get easier to do as you build that habit over time. I am constantly trying to work on this one specifically and some things can be harder to let go of than others! So aside from these mindset tricks, a couple of other things I am working on are self-discipline, my health/sleeping habits, and nutrition. I tell ya what, by the time this episode airs, I will be expecting a new baby girl in just 8 short weeks!! These late-night bathroom breaks or Cinnabon-loving pregnancy cravings are hitting hard, and it has been a little more or a challenge for me to focus on bettering these habits at this moment! as I am just trying to enjoy this last bit of pregnancy and squeeze as much up-front work in as possible so I can take time to rest enjoy her and the family once she arrives. So just allowing myself this wee bit of grace during this time, is also a conscious choice I've made to help me stay focused on what matters most -- and That my friends, is My Homefront. Wishing you all the best for you and yours during these holidays, thanks so much again for tuning in! We will chat again soon! I dive into life after college and what corporate life looked like for me as I began my journey into motherhood. I worked several jobs and found out what I enjoyed by trial and error. I discuss how I tried and failed and tried again along my journey and what lessons I've learned as I have gotten to where I am today. I share my thoughts on failure and quitting. I go over my struggle as a Mom in the workforce and how focusing on myself and what I wanted for my family and my homefront made me realize corporate life wasn't for me. I go over how I got into real estate and share where I am at today in my business. Hopefully, you can see that I am just that ordinary gal that takes the hits and chances, like many other entrepreneurs out there. It's not all seamless and pretty like Insta or other socials. In order to get to where I am at today, I have put myself through the wringer of opportunities to see what I enjoy, and what I like. I've shared my passion with friends and family only to get nods of “ here we go again” vibes, and I've had Countless conversations with hubby, therapists, and business coaches about my options and thoughts and fears and realigning what we want for our life and our family. Because that's what matters most. In this episode, I take it back to where my entrepreneurial journey began before I even realized it. I introduce my childhood as being just the typical gal, raised with a big blended family and I go over my experiences in my first job and my first side true hustle that gave me a taste of entrepreneurship and freedom. I share a little on my journey through college when I studied marketing at the University of Nevada Las Vegas straight out of high school. Then we dive into how I met my first mentor, and how we grew his small hole-in-the-wall restaurant to being a distributor of products on the Las Vegas Strip. I didn't know it at the time, but my experiences in working alongside my mentor helped shape who I am today. We had to get out of our comfort zones and take action to keep his business afloat and we had no idea what we were doing. The game of entrepreneurship wasn't about the money, it was exciting and fun! Looking back it's easy to see that entrepreneurship takes a lot of grit, and determination -- and almost a sense of confidence. Not the confidence that you know exactly what you're doing. Instead, the confidence in knowing that even though you don't have a clue what you're doing quite yet, YOU DO have the confidence and willpower to FIGURE IT OUT. That's it… You just have to have confidence in yourself to know YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT, whatever that actually is. Just say yes, and figure it out as you go! I wanted you guys to hear a little bit about my background so you can see where my journey began with entrepreneurship and that it was not defined or planned out, it just sort of happened. I didn't start my own business right then and there --- there's definitely more to the story. I hope you enjoyed this part of the story, but, for now, I've got some children and hubby to attend to, but, I'll get you all caught up with the second part of the story if you plan to tune in next week! :) Connect with Toree: Instagram @homefrontpodcast https://www.toreemcqueen.com If you have enjoyed today's episode: Share with friends Leave a review on Apple Podcasts Subscribe to catch the next episode About the Host: Meet Toree McQueen, a realtor, entrepreneur, serial just do-er, podcaster, mother to 4, and a bold dreamer always on a mission.
