Since founding her company in Melbourne in 2002, award-winning choreographer Lucy Guerin has become one of the artists defining contemporary Australian dance. Her minimalist work explores the body's relationship to space, rhythm and people, as well as themes like time, gravity and control. In her over 20 years as a choreographer she says she's learned to let go of her own sense of control, increasingly letting her dancers help guide her work. Lucy Guerin joined FRANCE 24's Alison Sargent to discuss her works "Pendulum" and "How To Be Us", presented at Paris's Chaillot national dance theatre as part of the "Go Australia" event.

From Genesis to Revelation, we are instructed to be stewards of God's resources. The Bible claims, time and again, that everything is God's, and we are simply stewards of it. To reclaim a faithful posture toward stewardship, we have to reclaim who is the rightful owner of all things: God.

Hopestream for parenting kids through drug use and addiction
You've probably heard me (and many of my guests) talk about letting go of the idea that you can control your teen or young adult child. This is so hard to do, for obvious reasons, and parents who struggle with this have some valid questions: Isn't it our job to protect our kids at all costs? If I stop confronting these problems, isn't that just avoidance? How is this different from just giving up?My guest today says that these questions miss an important paradox: The more we let go of controlling behavior (which often doesn't work anyway), the more opportunity we have to gain real influence – especially with skills like Motivational Interviewing.Dr. Emily Kline received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, following up with clinical and post-doc training at Harvard Medical School. She has presented to audiences all over the world on the topics of mental health and interpersonal communication. Her new book and (free!) E-course is titled The School of Hard Talks.I've been seeing Emily's name everywhere lately and I'm excited to finally bring you this conversation, in which we discuss:How Motivational Interviewing can help us give up control in exchange for influenceOne big reason adolescents and young adults can be self-destructiveSome go-to phrases to facilitate low-conflict discussion and relationship buildingThe podcast is now part of a nonprofit called Hopestream Community: www.hopestreamcommunity.orgLearn about The Stream, our private online community for moms, at www.thestreamcommunity.comWe now have a new community for dads parenting a child who struggles with substance use and mental health; The Woods: members.thewoodscommunity.orgFind us on Instagram: @hopestreamcommunityDownload my free e-book, HINDSIGHT: Three Things I Wish I Knew When My Son Was Misusing Drugs: www.brendazane.com/hindsightJoin my email list: www.brendazane.com/email
Sometimes, Rodney and Aaron stop by other people's podcasts to nerd out on the hits we know and love: new ways of working, self-management, breaking down the binary between chaos and bureaucracy, the future of work—the list goes on and on. So today, we're actually bringing one of those awesome conversations right to your ears. Aaron recently joined Morra Aarons-Mele on her show, The Anxious Achiever, for an epic chat about mental health, the workplace, and disrupting the systems that can reward and reinforce unhealthy behavior. We hope you enjoy the exchange and we'll return with a fresh episode of Brave New Work soon. To tune in for more episodes of Morra's show, head to her website or search "The Anxious Achiever" wherever you get your podcasts. ------- This episode originally aired on October 26th, 2022 on The Anxious Achiever with Morra Aarons-Mele, presented by LinkedIn. Aaron Dignan is founder of The Ready - an organizational transformation and coaching practice. He focuses on how to prioritize adaptivity and autonomy over efficiency and control - which you can pretty quickly extrapolate into upsides for mental health of workers and leaders. He's also the author of the book Brave New Work - and cohost of the podcast of the same name. Host Morra Aarons-Mele speaks with him about he helps organizations and individuals realize they need to change, and how he guides them through that transformation. About The Anxious Achiever: Host Morra Aarons-Mele is on a mission to reframe how we think about anxiety and mental health in the workplace. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S. We desperately need better models for leadership and a more holistic view of mental health. Our culture tells those of us who suffer from anxiety and depression that we can't succeed, but we tell a different story — without sugarcoating the tough stuff. We feature stories from people who've been there and experts who can help you thrive.
In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Terry discuss: From burnout to blessed. Building true relationships with those who matter most. Putting boundaries on your work to succeed in life. The power of having conviction in Him. Terry's Four Steps to aligning yourself with God. Key Takeaways: Until the pain of the situation is greater than the perceived pain of the change, nothing is going to change. Even if you aren't physically in the office, if your mind is constantly on office things, you haven't really left. Consider leading your company as a consultant with authority. Let your team play to their strengths, but be there to support them in life and business. Your opinions are not necessarily a fact. The truth will be revealed to you as you pray. God is on His timeframe, not yours. We need to get neutral in our own lives and on what we want. "Conviction sells. When you have conviction, especially if it's from the Lord, it has amazing impact. Don't ever underestimate the power of conviction, especially when it's from the Lord." — Terry Looper About Terry Looper: Terry Looper is the CEO and founder of Texon LP, a midstream energy company that was founded in 1989. Texon was voted #1 in Houston revenue for private companies in 2011 at $6 billion. If you treat downturns as an opportunity for growth and connection, you'll build relationships that outlast any market cycle.” (Chris S.)“We're fortunate to be a privately owned company so we can do what we want, when we want and do right by our people. And the consequence of that was that our people … saw us do the right thing (curing pandemic) in terms of taking care of people and their families.” (Chris J.)“We've always come out of (setbacks) stronger because our people trust us more; they feel safe and the foundation we're all standing on is that much better.” (Chris J.)“If you wake up and dwell on the negative, you are plagued. If you're waking up and appreciating the good, you are maintaining an attitude of gratitude.” (Chris S.)“Being a great leader is all about empathy and gratitude. Without those two characteristics, you're not able to recognize the qualities, skills and contributions of the other members of your team.” (Chris J.)“That's the thing with real estate. (But) you can control your attitude, how you treat one another, your effort.” (Chris J.)“Without our customers and partners, we would cease to exist. We would have no reason to be here … They've trusted us with big and important decisions.” (Chris J.)“This is the leader of a very large company telling you how they built a culture of recognition and appreciation – of gratitude – and how that's really fueled a lot of their success.” (Chris S.) How can teachers empower children to be more creative and engaged in class, even when they don't want to? In this Fueling Creativity in Education podcast episode, Dr. Cyndi Burnett and Dr. Matthew Worwood welcome Andrea Mango, an elementary STEAM teacher based in Williamsville, New York. This episode focuses on bridging the gap between theories and studies of creativity and the practical implications for them in an elementary classroom. Please tune in to learn how Andrea inspires creativity in her STEAM classroom, how she has overcome barriers to bringing choice for students into the classroom, and how STEAM classrooms differ from regular classrooms. She offers insight into how to build a safe, trusting environment for creativity to thrive in your classroom and how to engage students that don't like the topic or project or are having a bad day and don't want to be engaged. “Where in your curriculum can you give up a little bit of control, a little bit of power?” – Andrea Mango Andrea tells us why she brought flexible seating options into her classroom, like rocking chairs and bean bags, and how she deals with the vulnerability and stigmas of being a creative educator. Then, Andrea describes how she brings her problem-solving skills into her classroom and involves students in the problem-solving process. Andrea's Tips for Teachers and Parents: When it comes to making changes, start small. Challenge yourself to get rid of 1-2 worksheets per week and turn the lesson into an activity, game, or something more hands-on. Give up a little power so your students can have some. Does it really make a difference if they use markers, sit at their desk, or work with their best friend? Use your #1 resource for creativity: your students. They are far more creative than sometimes we can be, and they are dying to have a voice in the classroom. They are also a different ages, so they have different perspectives.
