Mt 13:54-58Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said,"Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter's son?Is not his mother named Maryand his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us?Where did this man get all this?"And they took offense at him.But Jesus said to them,"A prophet is not without honor except in his native placeand in his own house."And he did not work many mighty deeds therebecause of their lack of faith.

Amen. 6 One or two Readings from the Bible as appointed. The Old Testament Reading today is… 2 Samuel 11. 1-21 1In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab with his officers and all Israel with him; they ravaged the Ammonites, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. 2It happened, late one afternoon, when David rose from his couch and was walking about on the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; the woman was very beautiful. 3David sent someone to inquire about the woman. It was reported, “This is Bathsheba daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4So David sent messengers to get her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she was purifying herself after her period.) Then she returned to her house. 5The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant.” 6So David sent word to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7When Uriah came to him, David asked how Joab and the people fared, and how the war was going. 8Then David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house, and wash your feet.” Uriah went out of the king's house, and there followed him a present from the king. 9But Uriah slept at the entrance of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house. 10When they told David, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “You have just come from a journey. Why did you not go down to your house?” 11Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah remain in booths; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are camping in the open field; shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing.” 12Then David said to Uriah, “Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day. On the next day, 13David invited him to eat and drink in his presence and made him drunk; and in the evening he went out to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house. David Has Uriah Killed 14In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15In the letter he wrote, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hardest fighting, and then draw back from him, so that he may be struck down and die.” 16As Joab was besieging the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew there were valiant warriors. 17The men of the city came out and fought with Joab; and some of the servants of David among the people fell. Uriah the Hittite was killed as well. 18Then Joab sent and told David all the news about the fighting; 19and he instructed the messenger, “When you have finished telling the king all the news about the fighting, 20then, if the king's anger rises, and if he says to you, ‘Why did you go so near the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall? 21Who killed Abimelech son of Jerubbaal? Did not a woman throw an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?' then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead too.' ” Hear the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The New Testament Reading today is… John 8. 48-59 48The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” 49Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is one who seeks it and he is the judge. 51Very truly, I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.” 52The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets; yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.' 53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets also died. Who do you claim to be?” 54Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, he of whom you say, ‘He is our God,' 55though you do not know him. But I know him; if I would say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him and I keep his word. 56Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day; he saw it and was glad.” 57Then the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple. Hear the message of Christ. Thanks be to God. 7 The Canticle, A Song of the Blessed Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Today's scripture - 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 15:49-58Jesus' nail-scarred hands tell us that God's taken the sting of sin and death into himself - healing us and transforming us.Welcome to new joy!
Reading 1Prv 9:1-6Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns;she has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table. She has sent out her maidens; she callsfrom the heights out over the city:"Let whoever is simple turn in here;To the one who lacks understanding, she says,Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!Forsake foolishness that you may live;advance in the way of understanding."Reading 2Eph 5:15-20Brothers and sisters:Watch carefully how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everythingin the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.GospelJn 6:51-58Jesus said to the crowds:"I am the living bread that came down from heaven;whoever eats this bread will live forever;and the bread that I will giveis my flesh for the life of the world."The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them,"Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my bloodhas eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my bloodremains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent meand I have life because of the Father,so also the one who feeds on mewill have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever."
--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/amigocatolico/message
(Mark 10:35–45) Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.” “You don't know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?” “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.” When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Being a disciple is about Submission, Not Status. “Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at something that doesn't really matter.” ― D.L. Moody (Galatians 2:20) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Being a disciple is about Sacrifice, Not Comfort. (Jeremiah 25:15) This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. (Mark 14:36) “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Matthew 16:24-25) 24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. “Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death.” -Mark Batterson (Luke 9:57-58) 57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” (Philippians 3:7-11) 7But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death Being a Disciple is about being a Servant, Not a Lord. (Ephesians 4:29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Mark 10:45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Consider the Cost Consider the Urgency Consider the Worth “He is no fool that gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” -Jim Elliot
Eu indiquei-lhe a data do regresso e ele autorizou-me a partir. E o rei concedeu-me tudo, pois a bondosa mão de Deus me protegia. – Palavra do Senhor. – R. Evangelho: Lucas 9,57-62 Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pe-jose-vicente/message
Discovering Jesus In the New Testament #02 – Jesus Is My Teacher By Louie Marsh, 1-15-2023 1) Jesus is my TEACHER. “13You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.” (John 13:13, ESV) Of the 90 times Jesus is directly addressed in the Gospels, 60 of them use the title teacher. “2This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”” (John 3:2, ESV) He wasn't educated, had no degrees, and never stepped foot into a classroom. Yet his teachings are revered and followed to this day. “15The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” 16So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. 17If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.” (John 7:15–17, ESV) 2) Jesus' teachings are RADICAL. “36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the great and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”” (Matthew 22:36–40, ESV) radical adjective rad·i·cal ˈra-di-kəl 1: of, relating to, or proceeding from a root: such as a(1): of or growing from the root of a plant radical tubers (2): growing from the base of a stem, from a rootlike stem, or from a stem that does not rise above the ground radical leaves B : of, relating to, or constituting a linguistic root C : of or relating to a mathematical root D : designed to remove the root of a disease or all diseased and potentially diseased tissue radical surgery radical mastectomy 2 : of or relating to the origin : FUNDAMENTAL The spirit not the letter of the Law “5Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 6who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:5–6, ESV) “9And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother'; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.' 11But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban” ' (that is, given to God)— 12then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”” (Mark 7:9–13, ESV) His DEITY “56Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” 57So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.” (John 8:56–59, ESV) 3) Jesus COMMANDS me to be radical. Don't WORRY about anything. “22And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” (Luke 12:22–23, ESV) REJOICE in persecution. “22“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.” (Luke 6:22–23, ESV) LOVE my enemies. “27“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” (Luke 6:27, ESV) Everyone DOESN'T enter the Kingdom of Heaven. “21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' 23And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'” (Matthew 7:21–23, ESV) 4) Jesus COMMISSIONED me to be a radical teacher. “19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” (Matthew 28:19–20, ESV)
Will You Follow Him At All Costs? Luke 9:57 - 60 57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 59He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
– Palavra do Senhor. Salmo Responsorial: 87(88) Chegue a minha oração até a vossa presença! 1. – R. 2.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pe-jose-vicente/message
The Gospel of John, 8-14 Part One: Four Christlike Characteristics By Louie Marsh, 4-24-2022 Pictures of Jesus – last one sacred heart. If I want to be like Jesus I must… 1) Always and FREELY offer forgiveness. They were USED this woman. “3The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him…(John 8:3–6a, ESV) Jesus LOVED her & set her free “6 …Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”” (John 8:6–11, ESV) No one knows what Jesus wrote on the ground. His love shamed them into leaving. He gave her freedom with boundaries. 2) Always LIVE in the light of life. “12Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” (John 8:12, ESV) To do this I must be “21So he said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” 22So the Jews said, “Will he kill himself, since he says…“24I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” 25So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning. 26I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.”” (John 8:21-22a; 24–26, ESV) Jesus died that we might “28So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.” (John 8:28, ESV) 3) Always abide in the TRUTH of Jesus. “31So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”” (John 8:31–32, ESV) Sin always & only “33They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free'?” 34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.” (John 8:33–37, ESV) Abiding in truth means SPEAKING unpopular realities. “43Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”” (John 8:43–47, ESV) 4) Always affirm that Jesus is GOD. “56Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad.” 57So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.” (John 8:56–59, ESV) Jesus is God in human “15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16For by him all things were created…17And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:15–20, ESV)
GOSPEL POWER I APRIL 7, 2022 - THURSDAY 5th Week of Lent Saint John Baptist de la Salle, priest Gospel: Jn 8:51-59 51Jesus said to the Jews, “Very truly, I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.” 52The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. The human mind, unenlightened by faith, cannot make a connection with God. Prideful human logic leads only to a dead end. This is what we observe in the conversation between Jesus and the Jews. They are initially identified as believers, perhaps because they are drawn by the signs that Jesus has been performing in their midst. But now, as they pursue purely human logic, their conversation with Jesus turns sour, then hostile, until they are driven to act violently against Jesus. Twice Jesus tries to move their hearts to faith. In yesterday's Gospel, his invitation was to remain in his word. In today's Gospel, he assures them that those who keep his word will not experience death. But the Jews choose to listen to their stubborn and prejudiced minds, rather than sense what their hearts tell them about their experience of Jesus. Lord Jesus, the price of our freedom is your death on the cross. Help us to walk in newness of life. Amen. apri

Matthew 13: 53-58Jesus traveled to His hometown of Nazareth. But the people weren't too happy with Him. They didn't believe Him. Because they didn't, He didn't perform many miracles there. Andrew and Edwin discuss the practicalities of that. If people don't believe, they won't show up for the miracle. Read the written devo that goes along with this episode by clicking here. John 8:3159 (ESV) The Truth Will Set You Free 31So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. 33They answered him, We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, You will become free? 34Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. 35The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. 38I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father. You Are of Your Father the Devil 39They answered him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you were Abrahams children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41You are doing the works your father did. They said to him, We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Fathereven God. 42Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. 43Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. 44You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your fathers desires. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God. Before Abraham Was, I Am 48The Jews answered him, Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon? 49Jesus answered, I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.52The Jews said to him, Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death. 53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be? 54Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, He is our God. 55But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. 56Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day. He saw it and was glad. 57So the Jews said to him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham? 58Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am. 59So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13, verses 54-58Jesus, having finished his teaching in parables, returns to "his native place". And while they immediately see the wisdom and workings of God, they talk themselves out of it because of the vessel bearing the message. We can scoff at these people from 2,000 years of distance, or we can accept that they are us and that each one of us carries some of those same blind spots.
THE WEEK OF JUDICA - SATURDAYLESSON: HEBREWS 1:1-13Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58Jesus gives the basis and reason why it is just His Word and not that of anyone else which makes men live. It is simply this: that He “was” even before Abraham. “Before Abraham was, I am.” Jesus is the one true God.If the person who offered Himself for us were not God, it would help and avail nothing before God that He was born of a virgin or had suffered a thousand deaths. But the fact that the seed of Abraham, who gives Himself for us, is also the true God makes His sacrifice such a blessing for us and conquers sin and death for us.Jesus is not speaking here of His human nature which could be seen and felt. From His human aspect, it could be seen that He was not yet fifty years old and, hence, could not have seen Abraham. But with the nature by which He infinitely antedated Abraham, He also antedated all other creatures and the whole world.According to His spiritual essence, He was also man before Abraham; that is, in the word and knowledge of faith, He was in the saints who all knew and believed that Christ, God and man, would suffer for us. The writer of Hebrews says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). In the Revelation of John we read of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). Here Jesus is speaking of His divine nature.SL 11:573 (14)AE 76:414PRAYER: Lord God, heavenly Father, fill our hearts with such faith and knowledge that we always fully appreciate the precious gift of Your only begotten Son, and all the blessings of salvation You have so richly bestowed on us in and through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pe-jose-vicente/message

Evangelho (Jo 8,51-59) — O Senhor esteja convosco. — Ele está no meio de nós. — PROCLAMAÇÃO do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo + segundo João. — Glória a vós, Senhor. — Glória a vós, Senhor.
