Adel Taarabt. Volgens ons geen typische Socrates-voetballer. Socrates-voetballers hebben subtiliteit. Verbogen genialiteit.

Can you watch three European games in three successive days? If one of them is Monaco v Real Sociedad, will you be given the secret to making perfecto spaghetti carbonara? Why is Monaco's motto - 'Rise. Risk. Repeat' - in English, not French? John and Alex head to the Stade Louis II for a Group B Europa League clash between high-flying Monaco and second-placed Real Sociedad, not expecting to encounter any of these questions. They also failed to factor in the home side's security policy, which meant that most of their recording gear was impounded in a nice, well-maintained cabin, just outside the ground next to the Ferrari dealership. There it languished for the entirety of the game but Footy on the Med is nothing if not resourceful: the determined pair still managed to record their thoughts, observations and, in Alex's case, delight at the news, thanks to an English contingent sitting behind them, that Adel Taarabt played a blinder at Camp Nou. (That's Camp Now - hat-tip to Producer Fred.) Monaco ran out 2-1 winners, confounding John's prediction of a 2-1 Real Sociedad win and provoking him into musings on the meaning of the number 0. If it exists, that is. Recorded at the Stade Louis II on Thursday, 25 November 2021. Find out more on FootyOnTheMed.com
Ilias Chair joins Chris Charles, Paul Finney, Charlie Wise and Phil O'Sullivan to talk about his love for QPR, playing with Adel Taarabt and the terrifying moment he was caught up in a military coup.

Adam tells Drew the story of Adel Taarabt, the former golden boy who crashed out at Fulham and landed at QPR, a talented but perhaps misunderstood player. This was especially evident one day in 2011, when Fulham thrashed his QPR side, while Taarabt himself decided to go take in some sights. Early in his career, Taarabt became known for his tricky feet and outrageous skills. His move to Tottenham should have launched his career alongside Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone. Sadly, in a career that took in clubs like Fulham, AC Milan and, currently, Benefica, Taarabt best days were found at QPR; a stark contrast to what was achieved by Lennon, Huddlestone and, of course, Bale.
It might be a winter break in the Premier League, but there is no such break in the Football Shed, we are ready and raring to talk football in all its gruesome details. Everton get too much air time, is Richarlison really very good and is Pickford being misrepresented in the media? Chris Wilder continues to do great things at Sheffield United and is Graham Potter trying to implement similar ways at Brighton and is something special happening at Brentford in the Championship? There is time for some Aaron Mooy, a bit of Adel Taarabt and a very, very exciting edition of the End Game! Make sure you listen the whole way through to see what happens... Enjoying the Shed? We're joined by West Ham and Cardiff stalwart Danny Gabiddon as we talk about the moments that defined his career. We get off to a shaky start. Former football agent Jim Erwood joins us as well. His much told story of representing Ashley Williams and losing him after another pro player whispered in his ear is blown wide open. And everyone hates Gary Megson. Danny talks candidly about his time at West Ham, Cardiff and QPR, while letting go of some amazing stories... not least the dressing room fall out between Joey Barton and Adel Taarabt at half-time during a game against Tottenham. The whole pod is, as ever, a fascinating listen. See you at the far post. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
