We're back babies! For our first episode of the season, we're going LIVE to the Fat Studies 2022 Conference. This episode was recorded on July 7, 2022. We kick off with an introduction by the amazing Aimee Simpson, the organizer of this year's conference. We follow with a moment of remembrance for Cat Pausè, conference founder, who passed away late last year. Cat was and remains an inspiration to so many of us, and her work and impact on Fat Studies will remain with us forever. For our appetizer, we talk about our favorite chocolate foods, and of course, there are some real #neurodivergentvibes to the way some of us engage with chocolate, and Bryan infodumps on Cadbury. We then get into our main course for the episode, which is a Captain Awkward piece from a fat woman who says she's struggling deeply to find herself loveable. As we dig in, we unpack the ways that we conflate sex with love, desirability with value, and how the anti-fatness outside and inside of us sets the boundaries for what we can and can't realistically have, and how to wrestle with that honestly and still find joy. On a side note, we're so excited to be welcoming you all back to Unsolicited Season Two. Episodes will drop every two weeks on Sunday, and we're launching a Patreon with our next episode. Thank you to every one of you who has listened and shared and engaged with our work, we're so honored to have you as our listeners. Transcript will be coming soon. While scooping the excess batter from her kitchen aid, she thought, “Why can’t clean up after sex be this easy?” After several awkward conversations with friends, family, and eventually investors, Frances launches her company Awkward Essentials. It’s a direct to consumer brand with the purpose of creating solutions for life’s embarrassing problems.   Instead of a CEO, Frances calls herself “Captain Awkward”. If you have ever wanted to get rid of the 'evidence' after sex with your man, Frances Tang has an innovative and fun way to do it! Listen in as Frances and I discuss how she invented a way for us all to stop using wads of toilet paper to become...cumless! Frances Tang Bio: Frances is founder/CEO/Captain Awkward at Awkward Essentials, and the inventor of come&gone. Come&gone is a soft, medical grade sponge that is made to help vaginas with internal after-sex clean up. Her mission is to normalize and solve the everyday awkward and taboo encounters (with a dose of humor). Now Frances is betting big on Awkward Essentials, choosing forward action over fear. Against the advice of a startup accelerator, she placed a big order for her first product knowing the demand would be there to meet it — and proved the haters wrong. Frances credits a string of perceived failures, from a business that didn’t get off the ground to more than one job loss, for her tenacity. She has her BA in Communications from UCSD, resides in Southern California, and is definitely a multipotentialite!
