Pastor Peter spoke of Mary Magdalene today, recounting how she was the first to witness the resurrected Jesus. However, many people doubted her when she shared that her Lord had returned. Pastor Peter shared this woman's story, along with other touching tales, to remind us that witnessing God can occur in unexpected and surprising ways. How can we follow these women's examples and cultivate empathy and compassion in our own lives? How can we nurture the future of faith and live in God's Grace in our daily lives?
Frances Grey, Duchess of Suffolk, is often reduced to a footnote in history — simply the mother of the tragic Lady Jane Grey. But who was she really? In this episode, I dive into the life of Frances Brandon, born on 16th July 1517 — niece of Henry VIII, daughter of Mary Tudor, Queen of France, and a woman maligned by centuries of misrepresentation. Was she truly the cold, cruel mother some have claimed? Or has one quote from a teenage Lady Jane Grey unfairly shaped her legacy? I'll explore: - Frances's elite Tudor lineage - Her controversial portrayal as a harsh mother - Her entanglement in the 1553 succession crisis - The truth behind the myths, with insight from historian Susan Higginbotham And the softer side of Frances, seen in her later love match and quiet life after tragedy Join me in uncovering the real story of a woman who deserves more than the shadow of her daughter's brief reign. Through a mix of critical analysis, and a healthy dose of chaos, Professor Wamble and Cassie (one of the Patreon “chronic overthinkers,”) reconsider Lavender Brown's role in the series, her legacy, and what she can teach us about gendered expectations and internalized misogyny. They deep dive deep into the misunderstood and often maligned character of Lavender Brown asking- Why has the Harry Potter fandom been so hard on her? Is she truly as clingy and annoying as we've been conditioned to believe, or is she simply a teenage girl unapologetically embracing her emotions in a world that punishes femininity? Together, we unpack the fandom's biases, J.K. Rowling's problematic portrayal of female characters, and why Lavender might actually be the perfect girlfriend for Ron—if only he had been emotionally ready. In this episode, how Sacramento's firing of Mike Brown pretty much bounces off him while reflecting poorly on owner Vivek Ranadive; how Minnesota put Julius Randle in position not only to fail, but to be scapegoated; why James McAllister was right to slur Spurs fans; why Aaron Rodgers isn't merely a bad QB; and the intersection of chess, pantaloons and sex toys.

Chicago-based academic and horror obsessive Peter Raleigh joins to discuss reliable journeyman director Peter Hyams and his 1997 creature feature, 'The Relic'. Maligned critically and a failure at the box office upon its initial release, the film has endured as an example of the tactile, sturdy genre work of the 90s with capable hands on both sides of the camera, including brilliant creature designs from legendary special effects guru Stan Winston. We discuss the film's impressive balancing act, managing to glide over a host ludicrous genre tropes and plot holes with ease while maintining a keen pacing and immersion. Then, we praise the excellent directorial work of Hyams, who serves here as his own cinematographer and generates a mesmerizing, impressionistic array of horror imagery in stark, dimly lit spaces galore. Finally, we discuss the delights of the monster movie, its flattening of distinctions among people that make for compelling survival thrills, and why the sensibilities of the decade were uniquely attuned to the subgenre. Locked On Cardinals - Daily Podcast On The Arizona Cardinals
Many things have changed across the Arizona Cardinals organization over the last few seasons, whether it be player personnel, coaching staffs, or front office members. There have been momentary high highs, and more elongated low lows. One entity that's remained constant is the owner of the Arizona Cardinals, Michael Bidwill. Maligned by fans at times for his "stuck in his ways" approach towards building an organization topped with his "lifetime employment contract" it seemed for his close friend and former GM Steve Keim that ended at the end of the 2022 NFL season, Bidwill is a polarizing character to say the least. Now, with many organization-pivoting decisions made recently in an effort to position the Arizona Cardinals for potentially never-seen-before success within the organization, one glaring question still remains: can the Arizona Cardinals win with Michael Bidwill as owner?
