Et Moscou compte bien peser sur le scrutin, grâce notamment aux candidats de l'opposition, « réputés proches de Moscou ». L'hebdomadaire conservateur Le Point s'inquiète du « charivari » à droite. « Prise en étau entre les héritiers du macronisme et le Rassemblement national ou ses alliés, qui tentent de capter ses cadres et ses électeurs, la droite cherche son espace, son cap et son leader pour 2027 », annonce Le Point, qui a questionné Pascal Perrineau. Et selon ce politologue, la messe est dite : « L'union des droites est un mirage ». À ses yeux, la droite doit s'allier avec le centre si elle veut être au second tour de l'élection présidentielle. « S'il y a désunion, estime Pascal Perrineau, aucun de leurs candidats n'accèdera au second tour ». « Cauchemar » Jean-Luc Mélenchon, le leader de La France insoumise, espère bien, lui, atteindre ce second tour. Mais ce n'est pas L'Express qui l'y aidera… L'hebdomadaire libéral fait sa Une avec ce titre : « Le cauchemar Mélenchon ». Pourquoi un cauchemar ? Parce que, estime le directeur de la rédaction Éric Chol dans son éditorial, « les électeurs prêts à céder aux sirènes du candidat insoumis feront – inconsciemment ? – la courte échelle au Rassemblement national pour accéder à l'Élysée ». Un raisonnement qui repose sur une sorte de pari : Éric Chol estime en effet « que le potentiel de rejet dans l'opinion du Rassemblement national est moins fort que celui de La France insoumise, plaçant ainsi dans cette hypothèse de second tour le candidat d'extrême droite en situation idéale pour décrocher la timbale présidentielle ».  Pas de panique L'épidémie d'Ebola qui frappe une partie de la RDC risque-t-elle de s'exporter ? L'Express a posé la question au virologue américain Peter Hotez. « Y a-t-il un risque que ce virus se propage hors d'Afrique ? » « C'est inévitable, répond Peter Hotez, qui ajoute aussitôt : Est-ce que cela mènera à une épidémie ? Probablement pas, car Ebola n'est pas si transmissible dans les premiers stades de l'infection ». « Le plus gros problème, estime le virologue, pour les États-Unis ou l'Europe, c'est la panique et la perturbation sociale qui peuvent en résulter ». Peter Hotez prend pour exemple un cas d'Ebola survenu à Dallas, au Texas, en 2014, qui avait provoqué une vague de panique. « Dans ce contexte, êtes-vous inquiet pour la Coupe du monde aux États-Unis ? » lui demande l'Express. « Il n'y a pas de risque que des spectateurs contractent Ebola en allant regarder un match », répond le virologue américain. « En revanche, nous devrions nous attendre à une déstabilisation sociale similaire à celle que nous avions vécue à Dallas, si un seul cas devait être détecté ».

Seosamh Céitinn was born and raised in Cork City. He attended University College Cork, where he earned both a BA and an MA in Modern Irish before completing a Higher Diploma in Education. He spent over thirty years teaching Irish in Athlone before retiring in 2022. He published his first book, Tomás Oileánach, in 1992, about the well- known Irish-language writer Tomás Ó Criomhthain.
