For the final movie in their Martin Campbell marathon, Taylor & Nick return to a simpler time in superhero movies. A time when heroes wore costumes made of bad CGI. A time when Michael Clarke Duncan voiced an angry space pig. A time when Blake Lively's biggest controversy was bad acting. The time was 2011 and the movie was Green Lantern. __________Taylor Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Writer Nick Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Editor

The Mask of Zorro (1998) remains one of the greatest action adventure movies ever made. Its sequel, The Legend of Zorro (2005),  remains one of the worst. Martin Campbell, Antonio Banderas, and Catherine Zeta-Jones are all back for another go, but the spirit of adventure, deeply personal stakes, and dynamic chemistry are all gone. If you thought the original film lacked enough marital discourse and divorce proceedings then perhaps The Legend of Zorro is for you! __________Taylor Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Writer Nick Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Editor

You probably don't know director Martin Campbell's name. But you've definitely seen some of his great films like GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro, and Casino Royale. Over the next three weeks, Nick & Taylor undertake a marathon of Campbell's lesser known (and lesser loved) movies. They begin with Vertical Limit (2000). After a group of climbers (including Bill Paxton) become trapped in a crevasse on K2, Chris O'Donnell (Robin from Batman & Robin), packs up his nitroglycerin and sets off to rescue them. __________Taylor Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Writer Nick Zaccario…Host, Director, Producer, Editor

Zo, still roaming around the 1800's, and Zorro is very much active. He appears when the people, his people cry out for his intervention. His people, the people of California, are on the precipice of great change as they vote on whether or not to become a state of the United States. Those in favor of this monumental move believe that becoming a state would offer some relief from oppression an grant a greater opportunity for freedom, but Zo has heard rumors that there are powerful forces that are working behind the scenes to make sure that California never achieves statehood. Zo has also heard the gossip that Don Alejandro de la Vega and his wife Elena are getting a divorce. This would be kind of sad because they seemed like such a lovely couple, but it be like that sometimes.   Episode Chapters 00:02:22 Opening Credits for The Legend of Zorro starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones 00:12:17 Favorite Parts of the 1998 film The Legend of Zorro 01:00:49 Trivia from the swashbuckling action thriller - The Legend of Zorro 01:13:19 Critics' Thoughts on Martin Campbell's The Legend of Zorro   Links: BoxOfficePropherts.com What Went Wrong: The Legend of Zorro Please leave a comment, suggestion or question on our social media: Back Look Cinema: The Podcast Links:Website: www.backlookcinema.comEmail: friends@backlookcinema.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@backlookcinemaTwitter: https://twitter.com/backlookcinemaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/BackLookCinemaInstagram: https://instagram.com/backlookcinemaThreads: https://www.threads.net/@backlookcinemaTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@backlookcinemaTwitch https://www.twitch.tv/backlookcinemaBlue Sky: https://bsky.app/profile/backlookcinema.bsky.socialMastodon: https://mstdn.party/@backlookcinemaBack Look Cinema Merch at Teespring.comBack Look Cinema Merch at Teepublic.com Again, thanks for listening.

Zo is transported into a time of change for Spanish California. It's a time of mystery, corruption, intrigue, romance and high adventure. It is a time when the common folk are oppressed by their wealthy overlords and they cry out for justice. The legend who had once defended the people against the chaos has been gone for many years, but Zo hears whispers of his reappearance. There is hope in the air that the people will once again shout out with joy at the sight of their champion and they will once again see their hero in a mask. They will once again cheer for a man as quick as a rattlesnake, as skilled as a scorpion, and as cunning as a fox. SEASON 2 - EPISODE 182 - Martin Campbell - Director In this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, we speak with director Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE, GOLDENEYE, EDGE OF DARKNESS). Faced with limited options for a career as a cameraman in New Zealand, Martin sailed to England, and five years in TV and 51 Tom Jones shows later, Martin transitioned into directing full time. As big fans of Martin's EDGE OF DARKNESS (1985), we didn't miss the opportunity to ask him about the making of the six-part BBC limited series, and we extensively discuss his choices and the challenges he faced. Martin describes the relative freedom the BBC gave him to shoot it, and we learn why he cast Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker in the two lead roles. Martin also reveals how they filmed the show as the scripts came in, and we discuss the alternative ending originally written for the final episode. Plus, Martin reveals why he remade the show as a feature years later in the United States. With two Bond films under his belt, Martin later shares how he was approached to direct GOLDENEYE, and he reveals why CASINO ROYALE was chosen to be grounded in reality. Martin also shares his tips for dealing with studio notes, and he reflects on how, throughout his life, his previous experiences set him up for success for what came next. - Recommended Viewing: EDGE OF DARKNESS (1985 UK TV Series) - This episode is sponsored by Picture Shop & Aputure

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and copasetic impending yearly calendar renewals. Today Matt & Todd are joined by 00‑fanboy Mike to discuss yet another holiday classic (Hello Lifetime, get on this): 1995's GoldenEye.Directed by: Martin Campbell (also director of Casino Royale (2006))Starring:Pierce Brosnan as “Agent 007” Bond, James BondWhit Bissell Award Winner: Sean Bean as Alec TrevelyanIzabella Scorupco as Natalya Simonova(Retroactive Whit Bissell Winner:) Famke Janssen as Xenia OnatoppJoe Don Baker as Jake WadeJudi Dench as MWhit Bissell Award Winner: Alan Cumming as Boris GrishenkoWhit Bissell Award Winner: Robbie Coltrane as ZhukovskyWhit Bissell Award Winner: Minnie Driver as the woman singing "Stand by your Man" in Robbie Coltrane's sceneGoldenEye is an explosive spy thriller and widely regarded as one of the strongest Bond films; especially among those not starring Sean Connery or Roger Moore. The action kicks off immediately with a thrilling opening sequence, barrels through an all‑timer tank chase, and ends in a cataclysmic finale that keeps you locked in from start to finish. This Bond is a bit more dialed‑back than the 60s‑era madness you might associate with the Austin Powers parodies, but what it lacks in “traditional Bond‑ness” it makes up for with a sharp, modern spy thriller sensibility that is still sprinkled with just enough Bond‑flavored absurdity. That includes the usual questionable physics and, of course, whatever murder‑sex‑wrestling hybrid defines Xenia Onatopp's particular combat style. She'd make an interesting kumite participant.(Todd here: In retrospect, I should have given Famke Janssen the Whit Bissell Award for the same reasons Alan Cumming earned his. She's playing a strange, thankless, borderline cartoon character. Onattop is more caricature than role you can “live in”—but she delivers a perfectly unhinged performance and goes all-in on some objectively strange stuff (even for a Bond film) worth recognition. So, with the power vested in me, I'm giving her co‑credit.)While GoldenEye may not top many lists of “Christmas movies,” we think this is the perfect time of year to revisit it.

Questions have been raised over who deploys helicopters to transport rescue teams as police apologise over a miscommunication. A 13-year-old girl was left clinging to a cliff in Coromandel Peninsula's Hahei for hours last year - when police mistakenly thought she was dead. They refused to foot the bill for a chopper and a rescue crew made a nearly two-hour car journey. The Professional Firefighters Union's Martin Campbell says there needs to be clarity. "In some cases, police are saying it's their call. And Fire and Emergency in the past have made that call. So there is a bit of confusion and misunderstanding." This special mix celebrates the voice, vision, and vibration of Martin Campbell, one of the UK's most dedicated roots reggae artists. With haunting vocals, militant riddims, and dubwise production, his sound remains a powerful bridge between the message-driven reggae of the 1970s and today's global dub revival. This was an artist I'd never crossed musical paths with, so when I first heard “Wicked Rule,” my ears perked up. The music was different, his voice stood out with a unique tone and delivery that made me stop and ask What was that? T' Then I had to relisten several times to wrap my head around what this guy was doing. Released in 1990, it was a blend of digital dancehall sounds, soundsystem-style steppers, and bass, with minimalist production.   PLAYLIST Martin Campbell, Hi Tech Roots Dynamics – Just Another Day Martin Campbell – Babylon Come Martin Campbell – Another Night Martin Campbell – Give the Poor Man a Try Martin Campbell – Everywhere I Walk Martin Campbell, Hi Tech Roots Dynamics – Keep on Rowing the Boat Martin Campbell – War and Plunder Martin Campbell – Tears Form Martin Campbell – Hard Living Martin Campbell – Got to Pray Alien Dread, Martin Campbell, The Hi-Tech Roots Dynamics – Don't Cry Dub Martin Campbell – Ignorance & Poverty Martin Campbell – Crazy Circus Martin Campbell – Bound to Fall Martin Campbell – Jacks Mouth Martin Campbell, Hi Tech Roots Dynamics – You Lick Me First Martin Campbell - Wicked Rule

Fandom Podcast Network co-founders Kyle and Kevin welcome back special guest, and one of the original FPN co-founders... Norman! Norman came to us with an excellent idea and twist to Couch Potato Theater. Couch Potato Theater is where we celebrate our favorite movies.... usually. But on this special edition of Couch Potato Theater we look back at films that maybe we, or the public opinion originally didn't like! But now, we may have a different opinion, welcome to Couch Potato Theater: Be Kind & Rewind - Green Lantern (2011). Green Lantern is a 2011 American superhero film directed by Martin Campbell, from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim, and Michael Goldenberg. Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern, a test pilot who is selected to become the first human member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. He is given a ring that grants him superpowers and must confront Parallax, a being who threatens to upset the balance of power in the universe. The film also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, and Tim Robbins. Green Lantern was released in the United States on June 17, 2011, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally negative reviews from critics for its script, tone, visual effects, and unfaithfulness to the source material, and underperformed at the box office, grossing $237 million against a production budget of $200 million. It was also originally intended to start a film franchise based on DC characters. However, due to the film's critical and commercial disappointment, Warner Bros. scrapped plans for a sequel. Martin Campbell is a filmmaker known for directing two acclaimed James Bond films, GOLDENEYE and CASINO ROYALE. He gained recognition in British television with REILLY: ACE OF SPIES and the BAFTA-winning EDGE OF DARKNESS. His Hollywood career includes hits like THE MASK OF ZORRO and VERTICAL LIMIT. Renowned for his dynamic action sequences and ability to revitalize franchises, Campbell played a key role in launching Daniel Craig's Bond era. His most recent film, CLEANER, follows a group of radical activists as they take over an energy company's annual gala, seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts. Their just cause is hijacked by an extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, played by Ridley, suspended 50 stories up on the outside of the building, to save those trapped inside, including her younger brother. In this interview, we talk about his experience directing the James Bond films, his new film CLEANER, the evolution of villains in film, working with Jackie Chan on THE FOREIGNER, and much more. Dan and Conrad find themselves exiled to a leafy island that looks suspiciously like Queensland in this episode, where they explore Martin Campbell's No Escape (1994) – an airy, outdoor adventure set in the distant future of 2022. It stars Ray Liotta as the scarred military vet convicted for shooting his CO after he covered up a war crime, who teams up with fellow inmates Lance Henriksen, Ernie Hudson and Kevin Dillon to defeat the evil Stuart Wilson's 'tribe' of sadistic killers and expose the greater evils of private prisons. Produced on a $20 million budget by Gale Anne Hurd, the movie got Campbell the gig directing GoldenEye (1995), but quickly vanished from theatres. But does it deserve early release from the oubliette to ease 90s prison movie overcrowding? Or should it be hurled back in with no chance of parole? Find out!
