It's one of the most bizarre and disturbing cases we've covered yet: when Sarah Boone called 911 in 2020 to report her boyfriend dead, she claimed it was all a tragic accident during a game of hide and seek. But the body of Jorge Torres told a different story.... and so did the videos Sarah forgot to delete. This week, we're diving into the shocking case of Sarah Boone, the Florida woman who said she zipped her boyfriend into a suitcase “as a joke” and then left him there overnight. But investigators quickly found evidence that shattered her version of events, including horrifying footage of Jorge pleading for his life and Sarah laughing in response. We'll break down the twisted timeline, the toxic relationship history, the long delayed trial, and the controversial use of battered woman syndrome as a defense. Was this a case of reactive abuse pushed to the limit, or calculated revenge? And what does justice look like when both people in a relationship have been hurt?

Sarah Boone, 47, has been sentenced to life in prison for the second-degree murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., 42, who suffocated in a suitcase inside their Winter Park apartment. Boone was convicted after a trial that revealed chilling details about the fatal incident, which occurred on February 24, 2020. Boone had claimed that she and Torres were playing a drunken game of hide-and-seek when he climbed into the suitcase, and she zipped it closed as part of the playful activity. However, disturbing video evidence captured Boone laughing while Torres pleaded for his life, begging to be let out of the suitcase as he struggled to breathe. In the footage, Torres can be heard desperately calling out, “I can't breathe.” Boone's callous response, as she laughed, was to compare his suffering to her own emotional pain, allegedly from his infidelity and abuse. “For everything you've done to me,” she says in one video, justifying her actions with an eerie sense of detachment. Boone testified that when Torres managed to get his hand outside the suitcase, she became fearful that he might break free. She admitted to hitting his hand with a baseball bat to keep him inside. Despite Torres' desperate pleas, Boone left the apartment, believing he would be able to escape. She went upstairs to sleep, leaving him trapped in the suitcase overnight. The following morning, she found Torres dead. In her trial, Boone claimed that she never intended to kill Torres and described him as an abusive partner. She alleged that he had previously beaten, raped, and terrorized her. Boone argued that her actions that night were a form of self-defense, stating that Torres had been violent toward her in the past. However, prosecutors and investigators pointed to the stark contradiction between Boone's testimony and the evidence. Video footage captured Boone's lack of remorse as Torres begged for help, undermining her claims of self-defense. Prosecutor Dave Cacciatore highlighted Boone's failure to accept responsibility for her actions, noting that she was offered a plea deal of 15 years in prison on manslaughter charges, which she rejected. Victoria Torres, Jorge's sister, addressed the court, expressing the profound emotional toll the death of her brother has caused her family. “Sarah has caused a lifetime of pain, a lifetime of horrible images, a lifetime of hearing my brother Jorge plead for his life,” she said, visibly shaken. “Such a simple thing as using a suitcase is so triggering, I try not to close it all the way.” The judge took into account the shocking nature of Boone's actions and her lack of remorse when issuing the life sentence. Prosecutor Andrew Bain stressed that Boone's video evidence and her own statements to police painted a clear picture of her guilt. Despite the conviction, Boone expressed a desire for forgiveness, speaking directly to the Torres family in a final statement. “I ask for your forgiveness,” she said, though her plea was met with skepticism, given her behavior during and after the incident. The tragic death of Jorge Torres has left a permanent scar on his family, and the sentence handed down to Sarah Boone serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions. #SarahBoone #JorgeTorres #SuitcaseMurder #FloridaCrime #DomesticViolence #JusticeForJorge #LifeSentence #TrueCrime #WinterPark Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Opening Statements in the Sarah Boone Trial were presented by both the Prosecution and Defense. The State was able to get through 10 witnesses on Day 1 which is an impressive feat. Among the civilian witnesses were Jorge Torres's Bother, Sarah Boone's Ex-Husband and the apartment neighbors. The state was able push in a lot of evidence through witnesses like the 911 operator, the assistant store manger, deputy sheriffs at the scene and the CSI forensic biologist. The defense said that Sarah Boone is expected to testify next week. If the first day is any indication of the speed of the evidence, the trial might be done before the three weeks the judge has allotted.Watch the full coverage: https://youtube.com/live/-whxB4FZ4TEThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacyChartable - https://chartable.com/privacy

Boone wrote an advertisement and is now being represented by a private attorney.I covered both pre-trial motion hearings for Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th. The court has ruled that until Sara Boone takes the stand and establishes the legal grounds or foundations for a self-defense claim, the evidence of that can't come in. She claimed that they were playing around while she was drunk and put him in a suitcase and accidently forgot about him overnight. She called the police after she found him dead from suffocation. The police went through her phone and found a video of Jorge pleading with her to release him from the suitcase because he couldn't breathe. Boone instead taunted and laughed at Torres. She was arrested in 2020 and has remained in custody. Boone has had 8 public defenders and had to represent herself because she would not work with her appointed representation. Boone put out an advertisement and managed to get a private attorney to take on her case. Last week, she rejected a plea deal for the lesser charge of manslaughter serving 15 years. Sean Diddy Combs is facing six new civil cases filed against him by attorney Tony Buzbee, with more on the way. These cases will be added to the federal criminal case if there is sufficient evidence. Diddy's attorney defended his client stating that they have full confidence in the fact that he didn't do the things claimed in the lawsuits. His attorney's will most likely claim that Diddy cannot adequately represent himself from the barrage of civil litigation while in custody.
