Have you ever considered why some patients are easy to work with, follow all your instructions and always return when requested, while others seem far more challenging to work with, never listen and fail to return for follow-up appointments?  To have more patient compliance, we must learn how to adjust our behaviour to who walks through the door. Most podiatrists are technicians and are more concerned about what they do, not what the patient wants.  My guest Deb Johnstone, from Transformational Pathways Australia, will explain that there are four patient behavioural personalities that we need to be aware of.  If you want your patients to follow your instructions, return as requested and refer their friends and family, you've got to communicate and connect with them the right way; if you fail to connect, you can lose them.  What you'll learn in this episode can also be applied to your team.  After listening to this episode, if you want to connect with Deb Johnstone personally or have her do some work with your podiatry team, you can send her an email at success@debjohnstone.com.au or visit her website.  If you would like to discuss podiatry business coaching, please send me an email at tf@tysonfranklin.com and when you get the time, take a look at the NEW Podiatry Legends Podcast website at www.podiatrylegends.com Upcoming Events Visit https://www.tysonfranklin.com/events or https://www.podiatrylegends.com/upcoming-events/ Episode Sponsor - Podiatry Clinic Website: Step Up Your Website Game https://www.podiatryclinicwebsites.com/

Deb Johnstone from Transformational Pathways Australia will explain WHY you need to be showing up for yourself daily and HOW it creates new business opportunities that would have otherwise be missed or overlooked.   Deb has been on the Podiatry Legends Podcast before, Episode 89: My Mindset Coach.  In this episode, we discuss: The importance of making a commitment to ourselves.  Understanding where certain behaviours lead you.  The difference between showing up and showing up fully.  The importance of being aware when you're not showing up.   Language creates your reality, and using the wrong language can lead to missed opportunities. For example; I'm too busy - means you're putting your time elsewhere.  I can't afford it  - it means you're spending your money on something else.  Ongoing personal development and health are significant, but they are two common areas of life where people often don't show up for themselves. Showing up for yourself is about putting yourself first; it's not about being selfish. It's about allowing time for you.  Four essential steps to show up for yourself: Being Aware - You need to have an awareness of when you're making excuses. When you make excuses, you're ripping yourself off. Clarity - Explore what you want in life and if it isn't clear after five minutes, start writing what you don't want. When you know what you don't want, what you want becomes more clear.  If you're still unsure, put yourself first, create some time and space, get a journal and start writing. Take Action - The universe responds to the energy of taking action. Actions create new experiences, and that brings in more opportunities. As soon as you take the first step, it starts to create the opportunities. Future Pace Yourself - If you were at the end of your life, what would you have regretted not doing, and how will you know you've lived a fulfilled life? "There's no past, there's no future there are just never-ending moments of NOW. You can't change the past but what can you do is take action NOW". Final Tip As the business leader, you should be showing up for yourself, not showing up for the team. You need to be your best self first before you can be the best leader for your team.  If you have any questions about this episode, one-on-one business coaching or any of my group coaching programs, please email me at tf@tysonfranklin.com, and we can arrange a quick ZOOM call.  You can also connect with Deb Johnstone at https://www.debjohnstone.com.au/. Deb and I chat about the changes that happen to women as they come to mid-life and how important it is to look after your body at this time of life.I believe that if you can reduce your physical symptoms then this reduces your emotional stress and you can look at the world through a brighter lens. It is really difficult to have a positive outlook on life when you are in constant pain, or your body breaks out in a complete sweat every 30 minutes. This is why I help focus women on addressing their physical health first and when they feel better they naturally make better decisions for themselves.Deb is a Life and Career Coach and you can learn more about the work that she does at her website - https://www.debjohnstone.com.au/

However, it all begins by having a positive mindset.  On this episode we discuss: Common mindset obstacles and blocks Lacking in confidence Why fear may present as stress, anxiety, or denial Procrastination: we do tend to do things that feel the easiest and put off things that create discomfort or boredom. Pain Pleasure Model Fear of Success: With success, there comes a lot more responsibility, and we start to stand out. Fear can lead to a fear of being judged by others.  Building believe and confidence Final Tip What goes on in our subconscious mind can trip us up. Anything is possible when we explore what is holding us back. Podiatry Business Coaching & Mentoring If you want to own and operate a Thriving Podiatry Business, you've got to work on four specific areas of your business.  Marketing - You need to have a proper, well thought out strategy Systems - You need systems that will support both your marketing and your team. Your diary needs to be structured in a way that maximises patient number per day and in turn, will increase your daily profits.  Thinking you can just work on one part or maybe two out of four areas and still do well is no longer good enough, you must develop all four pieces of the business puzzle. He helps people reach their goals by assisting them to get clarity around their WHY.  On this podcast episode we discuss: Balancing his training and competition with his social life and dental studies Benefits of discipline and hard work and how this translates from sport to business "Natural talent will only take you so far, and those that make it to the top are the ones who never gave up. Success comes when you don't quite" Success in business comes to those who never quit.  Analysing what works and make changes if you're not getting the results you want, but don't quit.  Book: START WITH WHY by Simon Sinek. Belief systems  Knowledge not put to use is a waste of time.  "Don't let perfection get in the way of progress." Getting Started With Goals  First, you need to understand yourself (your mindset) and work out what is your limiting beliefs.  SIDE NOTE: A belief is just a neural connection from one event to another. It's your way of connecting stories. If you say, you're going to lose 10kg you need to ask WHY. There must be an emotional connection. Just saying so you can fit into a shirt or pair of pants is superficial. What will fitting into that short or pants make you feel? That's the emotion.  Monday Morning Tip Think about the person you want to become. Can you picture this person in your mind?  How do they speak? How do they act? In December it's quite common to start looking ahead to next year and not reflect on the year that was. There is a lot to learn and to take away if you stop and reflect.  I'd love to say this was my idea, but it wasn't. Last week I tuned into a webinar with Deb Johnstone, and it was about reflecting on the year that was, and there were three key points.  Deb Johnstone was my guest It’s No Secret with Dr T., and the episode was called Mastering Your Mindset.  Focus On The Positive Firstly – People have a habit of focusing on the negative, what they didn’t achieve throughout the year, instead of the positive things they have done. Deb asked us to consciously go through the year, month by month, and look at the highlights, and when I did this I was amazed, and I had forgotten many of my accomplishments, not all huge, but still significant. Columnist of Tropic Magazine 14 consistent monthly coaching clients New website I ran a successful event in August with Dave Frees in Cairns I got to speak in Powell River, Canada and Arizona, in the USA Started a new Podcast called Podiatry Legends, to be released in January 2019.  What I Missed Is Not Important  I had set a goal to be a guest on 50 podcasts but only managed to speak on 34, which is still pretty good.  Also, I didn’t get Richard Branson on It's No Secret with Dr T. but in hindsight I know I could have pushed harder. However, I now have a choice. Focus on the negative or focus on the positive.  2018 Week One Episode  This webinar reminded me of my first episode in 2018, which was title Was Week One A Hit Or A Miss? On this podcast, I was talking about how much did you achieve and get done in your first week back at work? Was it a productive week, or was it a complete disaster, or was it somewhere in between? Create A Personal Scorecard I was also talking about not focusing on what you didn’t do, and instead, give yourself a rating out of ten, then keep track of your score each week and why you gave yourself this score.  What reoccurring obstacles keep getting in your way and can you do something to prevent them from happening again? To change the output of your life, you need to change the input. So if you’re not getting out of life what you want, you need to make a conscious effort to change the input. Free Lessons & Gifts - Some Hurt Every challenge leaves us with a lesson or a gift. Sometimes it’s hard to see what the lesson or gift is in the moment, but it’s there somewhere. For example, you may have had a challenge at work with a team member, a family challenge, or it could have been a health or weight challenge. Regardless of what it was, look for the lessons and gifts. Sometimes there may only be lessons, but every lesson is still a gift.  Key Changes For 2019 Think about what fundamental changes you need to make in your life right now to get the most out of 2019.  I discovered the following:  I had to be more aware of my daily habits, and especially how I start and finish each day. How I begin and end a day has a massive impact on my mindset, enthusiasm and how much you get done each day. My wife Christine recently pointed out that I was looking at my phone a lot before going to bed and also again when I work up, and I have to be honest, she was right. Conscious Effort To Change  So I’ve made a conscious effort to stop these bad habits, and after a few short weeks, it has already made a massive difference in how I am performing.  I also need to be more aware of the obstacles I know are present in my life, and don’t let them, or use them as an excuse for not doing what I said I was going to do. If you’re going to go to the gym at 7 am, then get up and go. Don’t put it off and say you’ll do it in the afternoon when you know by the end of the day you’re going to be tired and won’t feel like it. Be patient, and Happy To Be a Novice – Get comfortable with it. - MOG We All Must Have Gratitude The third thing Deb discussed was to be grateful for the year as a whole. There would be a lot of people that would love to have the year you had, so be grateful you got to have it. Gratitude is the closest state to love. When you look at all three points:  Achievement and highlights Lessons and gifts Be grateful for the year as a whole It does put 2018, and every other year prior, into PERSPECTIVE.  I hope you’ve had a great 2018 if you have any questions, please send me an email tf@tysonfranklin.com, or if you want more information on mindset coaching and personal development training I suggest you get in touch with Deb Johnstone at success@debjohnstone.com.au FREE DOWNLOAD & Book Orders: First 16 Pages of My Book – It’s No Secret There’s Money in Small Business. Many small business owners find it challenging to stay focused on the task ahead because of shiny bright lights? And often they let their negative thoughts affect their decision making or lack of decision making and this is where Deb Johnstone from Transformational Pathways Australia comes in. Deb Johnstone is a Mindset and NLP business coach, and I can honestly say she helped me keep my head screwed on when I needed it most and with her advice and guidance also helped me make decisions much faster.  How we think and what we say has a significant impact on our actions and how we approach our business life. We often fall into generalisations with our comments that are not true. For example, you may say, no one wants to work part-time in your particular industry, but this is not true. There may not be many people wanting to work part-time, but it's not on one.  Your Unconscious Mind Your unconscious mind will delete messages and signs if you keep repeating untrue statements. If you say no one wants to buy your product, use your service or hear you speak, your unconscious mind will delete the positive and highlight the negative.   Remember, people not wanting what you have to offer are probably not your Target Market, but there is a market for you, you need to find it.  5 Success Principles of NLP Know Your Outcome Take Action Have Sensory Acquity (Awareness) Behavioural Flexibility Physiology & Psychology of Excellence Know Your Outcomes Before you start a task/activity, you need to know your desired outcome from the start. And it doesn't always need to be huge or life-changing, but it must align with your goals.  What do you DON'T HAVE NOW that you WANT TO HAVE after doing this thing Take Action Any action is better than no action at all, and if you're clear on your outcome you will be far clearer on the best action to take, or what is the next best step.  People resist taking action because they're afraid they may make the wrong decision, but there is no wrong action, there are just learning opportunities. When you take action, it gives you a chance to learn, which will help you towards your next action.  Also doing something once is not enough, it has got to be done many times to build momentum. In fact, it usually takes 90-days to create momentum.  Sensory Acquity (Awareness) You need to have awareness around what you're doing and if it is working. You may be given a strategy and told that it would work, but you need to be able to step back and see if it is working. Always measure your results.  It doesn't mean you dump the strategy if it is not working, just tweak it. Make small changes and reassess.  The way you perceive the world is directly related to your past and present experiences This is why you need to TAKE ACTION so you can create new experiences. No action = No new experiences. DO NOT TRY - If you try something you get trying results because trying is not doing.  Behavioural Flexibility You need to practice stepping out of your comfort zone and be prepared to make changes in your strategies, actions your taking, conversations your having with people, beliefs, values, attitude and thinking. Be prepared to change your language and no more using the word TRY.  Always be looking for solutions. Giving up is not a solution.  Physiology & Psychology of Excellence How you think and what you do with your body affect one another. For example, it's hard to smile when you're looking downwards, and it's hard to frown when you're looking upwards. Therefore your body position affects your mental health.  People feel better after exercise and are in a better mood because the brain releases endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. When these chemicals are released, it makes you feel good.  If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. - Wayne Dyer If you have any questions about this podcast episode, please send me an email at tf@tysonfranklin.com, or you can contact Deb Johnstone via her website.  Deb also has an eBook available to download: 7 Steps To Breakthrough To Success  If you liked this podcast you would also enjoy: Episode #34: 5 Ways To Approach Adversity with Wilson Lawrence Episode #02: Communication, Persuasion & Influence with David M.
