Burt Ward was apparently too much of a huge hung hero for the TV Network studios behind the incredibly popular Batman TV series from 1966 to 1969 starring Adam West as Batman with Burt Ward playing Robin. The suits took drastic measures to ensure Robin's suit fit appropriately for prime-time television. Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are back to talk about another anniversary. This time it’s the finale of a real classic, Batman: The Animated Series, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary. Batman: The Animated Series was created by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Mitch Brian, and Eric Radomski. It aired on Fox Kids from September 5, 1992 to September 15, 1995. During its 85-episode run, the series garnered critical acclaim for its aesthetics, storytelling, and maturity. The show features the voices of Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Loren Lester as Dick Grayson/Robin, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred Pennyworth, Bob Hastings as Commissioner Gordon, and Robert Costanzo as Detective Bullock. Other notable voices include Mark Hamill (yes, that Mark Hamill) as the Joker, Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn (who was created for the show), Adrienne Barbeau as Selena Kyle/Catwoman, and Melissa Gilbert as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. In this podcast, Josh and Aaron discuss their past with Batman: The Animated Series, the finale itself (which features Star Trek: Voyager and Orange is the New Black's Kate Mulgrew as the villain Red Claw), and the series’ rebranding as The Adventures of Batman & Robin late in its run. They also discuss the show’s status as one of the greatest cartoons of all time and its relationship to The New Batman Adventures and other DC animated shows. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Character Corner - A Podcast on Your favorite Comic Book Characters
Kriss and Dpalm are back with another Character Corner episode. This time its Part 1 of a two part series on the Robins. We’ve covered most of the Robins already in previous episodes like Batman's Rogue Gallery, Tim Drake, all the Batgirl episodes and our three part Batman series. But we’ve never really dug deep into each of the Robins and gone into their differences and how they tell the larger story of Batman. We’re starting with Dick Grayson and Jason Todd not just because chronologically they were the first two robins but also because they represent the larger issues we’ve seen with Batman & DC Comics when they get translated to movies and TV. Everyone knows Dick Grayson is the first Robin but the reality is, by the time most of us were reading comics and aware of Batman, Grayson was far removed from being Robin. Same could be said for Jason Todd. Jason was first introduced in 1983 and was killed off in 1988. The first two Robins came and went before most people today were even 10. And that’s where we see DC getting into trouble. The mantle of Robin is almost just as important and divisive as Batman. There isn't another sidekick character in which you have 4-5 drastically different character holding the title and all of them are just about important. Dick, Jason, Tim/Stephanie and Damien. We’re gonna go through each Robin and talk not just about some of their key issues but really dive into how they’re different from each other, and the role they play in Bruce/Batman’s life. First up...the heir & the prodigal son: Richard & Jason. Key Issues: First Appearances Detective Comics #38 - First appearance of Dick Grayson/Robin Tales of the Teen Titans #44 - First appearance of Dick Grayson as Nightwing Batman #357 - First appearance of Jason Todd (Pre-Crisis) Batman #366 - First appearance of Jason Todd as Robin (Pre-Crisis) Early Years Batman Year 3 Batman #436 - 439 Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet - Dick's final test from Batman Robin Year 1 - Chuck Dixen and goes really well with his Batgirl Year One book Dark Victory - Sequel to The Long Halloween and retells the origin of Dick Grayson Enter Jason Todd Batman #408 - First appearance of Post-Crisis Jason Todd Batman #410 - Post-Crisis Todd's first appearance as Robin New Teen Titans vol 2 #20 Nightwing Year One Batman #416 - Jason & Dick meet for the first time; Bruce admits to why he replaced Grayson Death of Jason Todd Batman #422 Batman #424 - Does Jason kill Garzonas or not? When Dick Grayson was first introduced, DC Comics thought they’d found a way to make Batman more relatable to kids. What they didn’t realize is they’d actually found a way to make Batman more human.Chuck Dixon’s ‘Robin: Year One’ is a great introduction to the character: https://www.amazon.com/Robin-Year-One-Chuck-Dixon/dp/1563898055We’re also big fans of the ‘Grayson’ comic, which you can get here: https://www.dccomics.com/comics/grayson-2014/grayson-1 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Hello team. Welcome to our first bonus episode. In the Secret Origins series, we will be discussing specific characters and their backgrounds in both DC and Young Justice. We start today with a very special character, the Dick Grayson Robin. This character is near and dear to Rich's heart. In fact, things get pretty emotional in this episode. Due to that emotion, we had to use recording from a few different sessions, so there are some slight jumps in the audio. As mentioned in the podcast, there are many Robin-focused AMVs on YouTube that we love. Here are some of the best. John is joined by Dan Greenfield of 13th Dimension to celebrate the birthday of Burt Ward. While there are disputes over who is the best Batman, the best Alfred, even the best Commissioner Gordon, there is no disputing the definitive Dick Grayson/Robin is Burt Ward. John and Dan discuss how that magic begin right from the beginning with Burt's audition. They talk about what made him stand out, in particular his sense of timing when it came to humor. Finally, they discuss Burt's legacy as we are in the middle of the 50th anniversary of the Batman series.
