Most parents are doing everything they can to raise good kids, and still feeling exhausted, reactive, and unsure if they're actually helping in the long run.So much parenting advice is obsessed with today's behavior: listening, sharing, cooperating, “being good.” But this episode zooms out and asks a much bigger question: Who are you raising your child to become?Kristin sits down with parenting researcher, Whole Parent founder, and author Jon Fogel to challenge one of the most deeply ingrained ideas in parenting: that control and obedience create resilient kids. Together, they unpack why obedience can look like a win in the short term, while quietly undermining confidence, resilience, and emotional health over time: and what actually builds those skills instead. They explore how everyday power struggles shape the adult your child will eventually become, why so many well-intentioned discipline strategies backfire, and how shifting from rules to values can completely change your home dynamic. This episode will:* Help you shift your focus from short-term obedience to long-term emotional health* Reframe discipline as skill-building, not behavior control* Clarify the difference between rules and values — and why values actually stick* Explain why yelling is a nervous system issue, not a discipline strategy* Give you a framework for parenting with respect, boundaries, and authorityThis conversation will change how you think about discipline, power, and success in parenting. It's for parents who want to stop micromanaging behavior and start raising confident, capable adults, without losing boundaries or authority along the way. This episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. For episode 670 of the BlockHash Podcast, host Brandon Zemp is joined by Phil Fogel, CEO and Co-founder of Cork.DeFi has a $100B+ problem: you can't trade the risk. Insurance exists, but it's expensive, illiquid, and doesn't cover the economic chaos that actually wipes people out: depeg events, protocol runs, cascading liquidations etc. Phil Fogel, CEO and co-founder of Cork, backed by a16z crypto, Road Capital and more, explains that the system fails when risk is opaque and largely untradeable. Without tools to manage downside dynamically, stress compounds and volatility turns into contagion. Cork is his response. It is not insurance, but market-based risk infrastructure. By making risk programmable and tradable through swap tokens, participants can address stress before it cascades. Phil's broader perspective is about market structure. DeFi will not scale safely or attract institutions until risk management functions like a market rather than a promise.

Robin was introduced to holistic healing as a child by her mother, Charlene Reyes, who ran a family natural health business that involved whole foods, herbology and gardening. In part, her mom incorporated this into the family to help Robin's dad, who had been in a bad car accident and had brain damage when Robin was very young. Some of the people Robin learned from when she was a child included: Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. M.O. Garten, Dr. Paul Bragg, Ann Wigmore, T.C. Fry, and Dr. John R. Christopher, who occasionally taught groups at the Reyes household. Later, Robin studied biochemistry, nutrition, natural healing, and earned an array of certifications in natural health. Perhaps Robin's greatest teaching lesson came in her twenties, when she suffered a horrific bicycle injury. That injury forced her to cease her pre-med studies and undergo many surgeries. This setback paved the way for a triumphant comeback, as Robin used her knowledge of self-healing to not only recover from the accident, but to experience firsthand the healing power of all she had learned from her studies and mentors. Today Robin guides people from all walks of life to better health through helping them understand the roots of their ailments through traditional, non-traditional and natural formats. Doug was connected to Robin when he had signs of macular degeneration, and at the same time found blood in his urine. Friends connected him to Robin. Doug is an award-winning journalist with over 15 years of experience has traveled to Nepal, India, and Tibet visiting refugee camps, and has experienced natural approaches in his own health over the years. He has published the holistic health newsletter, “Natural Wealth, Natural Health” and works with Robin and other natural health practitioners to get their information out to the world. In this episode we will explore: Learn about how Robin's mom responded to her husband's near fatal accident, resulting in brain injury, and how that shaped Robin's experience in natural healing and health. How Robin's pursuit of becoming a neurosurgeon was derailed with a bike accident two weeks before medical school was to begin. Explore the many kinds of modalities Robin uses in her family's and client's lives, including an alkaline diet. Robin's approaches and tips for sleep disorders and a better night's sleep. Tips people can apply today to enjoy better health. Frank's introduction to Robin and how he helps natural health practitioners today. Join host Bryan Dawson, CEO of 1819 News, and investigative journalist Apryl Marie Fogel for a compelling episode of 1819 News: The Podcast, where fearless reporting meets unapologetic truth-telling. This episode dives into the heart of 1819 News' mission to hold the powerful accountable, no matter who they are, and exposes the challenges of delivering hard truths in a polarized world. The episode kicks off with a candid recounting of how Bryan and Apryl Marie first connected—spoiler: it wasn't exactly a warm introduction. Three years ago, as 1819 News emerged as a bold new media outlet, rumors swirled about its funding and intentions. Apryl Marie, then an independent journalist, was rumored to be writing a “hit piece” on the organization. A single phone call from Bryan, offering transparency (minus donor names), turned suspicion into a mutual respect that later proved pivotal. Apryl Marie's relentless questioning put Bryan in the hot seat, but her suggestion that Jeff Poor lead 1819 News' editorial team planted a seed that transformed the outlet's trajectory. Fast forward to the explosive Bubba Copeland story, where 1819 News faced national backlash for exposing a public figure's misconduct. While the media vilified 1819, Apryl Marie emerged as an unexpected ally, passionately defending their work on radio stations across Alabama. Her stance wasn't personal—it was about truth. This galvanizing moment solidified 1819's resolve to pursue fearless journalism, no matter the cost. Apryl Marie's investigative work takes center stage as she discusses her exposés on institutions like Samford University, where she uncovered a troubling disconnect between its Christian branding and DEI-driven practices. From professors promoting radical ideologies to programs undermining the faith-based values parents expect, Apryl Marie's reporting reveals how sacred institutions can betray trust. Bryan and Apryl Marie emphasize that their critiques stem from love for Samford's potential, not hate, and a desire to protect the next generation from ideological overreach. Tune in for an unfiltered look at the courage, conviction, and relentless pursuit of truth that define 1819 News. Whether it's taking on entrenched powers or navigating friendly fire, Bryan and Apryl Marie prove that doing what's right often means standing alone—until the truth prevails.

In this compelling episode, Jaryd Krause is joined by seasoned dealmaker and legal expert Jerome Fogel, partner at Fogel & Potamianos LLP, a boutique law firm specializing in high-stakes mergers, acquisitions, and capital raises. With a client list that spans venture funds, emerging tech companies, and elite athletes, Jerome offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to structure smart, safe, and scalable business deals. Unpack the most critical questions aspiring buyers need to ask before acquiring an online business: ✔️ What are the hidden risks in buying or selling?✔️ How can poor team dynamics tank a deal?✔️ Should you use financing to buy a business—and what’s the best way to structure it?✔️ Where are the most promising online businesses being acquired today? Dive deep into the importance of due diligence, the common pitfalls buyers fall into, and how Jerome has helped high-profile clients—both on Wall Street and in the sports world—navigate complex transactions and build generational wealth. Whether you're looking to buy your first online business, scale your portfolio, or just want a masterclass in deal-making from someone who lives and breathes it, this episode delivers powerful insights and practical strategies. Don’t miss this one—it’s packed with value from start to finish. Episode Highlights 04:45 – Current valuations explained, covering how tariffs and supply chain issues impact multiples and buyer decisions. 07:20 – Typical ways buyers finance acquisitions, including credit lines, SBA loans, equity rollovers, and search funds. 10:55 – Major mistake buyers make by rushing post-acquisition integration without building trust within the team. 12:45 – What successful acquisitions have in common by retaining key team members and valuing the founder’s knowledge. 24:10 – Key risk prevention strategies involving thorough reps and warranties, clear earnout terms, strong IP protections, and precise legal language. 26:30 – Why clear definitions around risk and performance clauses are vital. Key Takeaways ➥ M&A valuations currently range from 3–8x EBITDA for traditional companies and 10–15x for platform tech businesses, influenced heavily by tariffs and market uncertainty. ➥ Buyers typically operate in the $2M to $25M+ EBITDA range and rely on strong banking relationships, SBA loans, or creative financing like equity rollovers. ➥ Structuring deal terms clearly—especially reps and warranties and material adverse effect clauses—is critical to managing risk in acquisitions. ➥ Post-acquisition integration is one of the toughest challenges; involving existing teams and respecting founders’ knowledge leads to smoother transitions. ➥ Restrictive covenants are essential to prevent sellers from competing after the sale and protect buyer investments. ➥ Every deal is unique and requires customized, creative solutions; cookie-cutter approaches don’t work in M&A. It's a jam-packed Emma-jority Thursday folks. House Republicans have jammed through an abominable budget bill that will gut Medicaid and lots of other vital programs. But guess what? There's more money for the military and for border enforcement, and most importantly, a huge tax cut for the wealthy. We have two great guests today, first Emma will talk to the co-founder and editor in chief of Middle East Eye David Hearst about the worsening situation in Gaza and the diplomatic hole Israel has dug itself into. Check out his piece "Israel has already lost the Gaza war. It just doesn't know it yet" https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/israel-has-already-lost-gaza-war-it-just-doesnt-know-it-yet After that, Emma is joined by South African journalist and contributing editor at Jacobin Benjamin Fogel about the absolutely bonkers meeting yesterday between Donald Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. In the Fun Half, Harry Enten has the numbers that show Elon Musk's rating is in the toilet, and so so is his company Tesla. Jon Fogel: Punishment-Free Parenting Jon Fogel is a husband, a father of four, and a parenting educator. His goal is to teach how to parent more effectively, with less stress and more success by combining modern neuroscience, developmental psychology, counseling, and positive, gentle parenting wisdom. He is the author of Punishment-Free Parenting: The Brain-Based Way to Raise Kids Without Raising Your Voice*. Most of us aspire to lead well in every area of our lives, not just in the workplace. A key place for leadership with many of us is with our kids and the other young people in our lives. In this conversation, Jon and I discuss how to raise kids without raising your voice. Key Points Consequences and punishment are not the same thing, even if the words are used interchangeably. Our kids want us to like them. They are not giving you a hard time; they're having a hard time. Punishment doesn't “teach kids a lesson.” More often, it crowds out higher level thinking and children are unable to remember what they were being punished for. Rather than imposing retribution, help children surface that natural and logistical consequences of their behaviors. Get curious, not furious. Often, there's a perfectly rational reason that children are acting they way they are. Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate. The now debunked claim ultimately led to an impeachment attempt that fell short in the U.S. Senate. OCCRP denies the report's findings.
