Initially, studios were interested in found footage format; however, Flanagan was opposed to this and passed on such offers. The idea was to "create a sense of distortion and disorientation that would be similar for the viewer as it was for Tim and Kaylie in the room." In early drafts, it was difficult to distinguish between the two timelines, until the team hit upon the idea of writing all of the scenes from the past in italics.Inspired by the stories of H. P. Welcome back to Not A Bomb podcast! This is the show where we re-examine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. In this episode, we discuss a film with nine-foot Egyptian Gods played by generic white people who bleed gold and turn into Voltron-like robots. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. Our little podcast finally tackles 2016's fantasy action film - Gods of Egypt. This one…well…is a head-scratcher. For one, it's directed by Alex Proyas, an individual responsible for classics such as The Crow and Dark City. But he has Knowing in his filmography. Secondly, the film is penned by the duo known for Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and Morbius. Not really a winning combination. Maybe against all odds, this one will be something watchable…right, right? Download and find out! Gods of Egypt is directed by Alex Proyas and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Rufus Sewell, and Geoffrey Rush.If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com or Contact Us - here. Fans of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise were thrilled when Orlando Bloom, who played the role of Will Turner in the first three films, recently expressed his interest in returning for the sixth film of the swashbuckling adventure franchise. During a recent interview with Parade, Bloom shared his thoughts on potentially revisiting the character of Will Turner, saying, “I wouldn't mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it'd be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he's like.” Bloom first portrayed the character in the franchise's first film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” in 2003. The character was initially depicted in the film as a blacksmith's apprentice working in Port Royal, Jamaica, who embarks on a life-changing adventure with Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, after the love of his life, Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley, is kidnapped by pirates. Bloom returned as Will Turner in the franchise's second and third films, “Dead Man's Chest” and “At World's End,” respectively. In these films, Will replaces Davy Jones as the immortal captain of the Flying Dutchman. This plot point was revisited in the franchise's fifth film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” in which Will and Elizabeth's son, Henry, played by Brenton Thwaites, seeks the Trident of Poseidon to destroy it and break all curses imposed by the sea, including the one that binds his father to the Dutchman. Bloom also made a brief cameo in the franchise's fifth film, including the film's post-credits scene, which teased a potential sixth film involving the return of Davy Jones. Should Disney move forward with “Pirates of the Caribbean 6,” which has been in various stages of development since 2011, it could be a family affair with Brenton Thwaites also expressing interest in returning for a sixth film or spinoff. “Pirates of the Caribbean” remains one of Disney's most successful film franchises, with all installments grossing over $650 million worldwide. It was also the first franchise to have two films, “Dead Man's Chest” and “On Stranger Tides,” gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The franchise even crossed over with the open-world video game “Sea of Thieves” in 2021 with a free expansion that included a new original story featuring Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. The original 1967 theme park from which the films are derived continues to operate at Disneyland. As fans eagerly await the return of the beloved “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, the potential return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner has only added to the excitement surrounding the upcoming sixth film.

Book Vs. Movie: The Giver The 1993 Classic 1993 Novel by Lios Lowry & the 2014 MovieThe Margos continue their “Banned Book Month” with The Giver by Lois Lowry, one of the most praised young adult novels of the 1990s that is also one of the most challenged books of the last 30+ years. Lowry based the story partly on her “army brat” upbringing with its strictness and her desire to honor life's journey throughout its ups and downs. We can forget that other people do not have that privilege by wanting to live in a world without pain. In the novel, our lead character, Jonas, lives in a Community where “sameness” is desired, and no one wants to stand out. Everyone has a role designed for them, and there is no music or dancing. Desire and wanting are considered “bad,” and at 12, you are given your “adult” career. Jonas is made a Receiver of Memory by an Elder and is training for the job when he learns that not perfect babies are “released” from the community and taken “Elsewhere.” Jonas learns his father does his job, which enrages him, making him want to leave. In the end, Jonas and “The Giver” decide to have him sneak away with baby Gabriel and try to find life on his own while saving the Community to learn to live with memories and emotions. Lois Lowry won the Newberry Award in 1994 and wrote several sequels to the story. (Jonas lives, by the way.) WHY IS IT BANNED IN SO MANY SCHOOLS????The film stars Jeff Bridges, who wanted direct it with his father, Lloyd Bridges, as the lead. When he died in 1998, the project went into turnaround. It was released by the Weinstein Company (BARF) in 2014.So between the book and the film, which did we like better? In this ep, the Margos discuss:Lois Lowry and her world of young adult fictionBanned Books and recent U.S. issues with this at schools across the nationThe themes of the book The main changes in the film adaptationThe cast: Jeff Bridges (The Giver,) Brenton Thwaites (Jonas,) Odeya Rush (Fiona,) Katie Holmes (Jonas' mother,) Meryl Streep The Chief Elder,) Alexander Skarsgard (Jonas' father,) Cameron Monaghan (Asher,) Taylor Swift (Rosemary,) Emma Tremblay (Lily), and Thabo Rametsi as Robbie. The first film distributed by A24 in 2015 was Son of a Gun starring Brenton Thwaites, Ewan McGregor, and Alicia Vikander. Directed and written by Julius Avery, this Australian crime-drama follows JR, a recently imprisoned 19 year old kid. JR meets Brendan through a mutual love of chess. Brendan, a hardened criminal and bank robber, offers his protection in exchange for help when JR gets out of prison. With violent prison-mates looming, JR agrees to Brendan's offer and we venture into the underbelly of an Australian criminal enterprise. Will these A24 nerds enjoy this contribution to Australian cinema as much as they enjoyed The Rover? Listen to find out.
