As a former professional tennis player on the WTA tour, I am very grateful for the valuable lessons that I have learned and the skills that I have acquired on and off the court. As many tennis players train hard in the hopes to step on Center Court at Wimbledon one day, a lot of players and their parents face obstacles they are not prepared to deal with and prevent them from climbing the rankings of the WTA/ATP tour. What does it REALLY take to make it on tour? What do parents/players need to look for when selecting a coach? How do parents financially plan the 4-5 years that are usually needed so your kid can make it to the Slams? What is the best way to schedule your children's tournaments? It was my pleasure to co-host this webinar with my two co-hosts:Hernan Chousa, former top 300 ATP, is a business owner, a public speaker and an author of books on sports parenting such as “My son, the tennis player” and has just released a new book “Parentshift: the skills you need to become a tennis parent”.Vlado Platenik, who has been on the WTA for over 20 years, and took many player from top 500 to top 20 including former WTA number 12 Dominika Cibulkova, and is current with world number 32 at the WTA Veronika Kudermetova. Don't forget to subscribe and follow The Players' Lounge podcast on Instagram @theplayersloungepodcast and Facebook!

LISTEN TO GRAEMA AGARS TALK WITH D'ARCY AND GORAN ABOVEIvo Karlovic miraculously took his match against Kei Nishikori into a decider after losing the first two sets but suffered a heartbreaking blow when he was toppled in a fifth set tiebreak. The 39-year-old — the oldest man in the draw — produced a vintage serving display and won the fourth set with four consecutive aces to take his total up to 47 for the match. The game before he iced the set, Karlovic broke No. 8 seed Nishikori to love for the second time as the tennis world reacted with shock to the incredible comeback.Tennis coach and ESPN analyst Brad Gilbert was among those to express their admiration for Karlovic, tweeting: "Are you kidding?"Nishikori then staged a remarkable recovery of his down. Serving at 4-4 in the fifth set, the Japanese star was down 0-40 but clawed his way back to win the game before Karlovic held serve to make it 5-5.Both players held their next service games and the deciding set went to a tiebreak.Drama struck when Karlovic was down 5-6 in the first-to-10 breaker. A Karlovic ball was called long and Nishikori hit the half volley into the net. However, the Croatian challenged the call and Hawkeye showed the ball clipped the baseline and was actually in. Instead of replaying the point, it was awarded to Karlovic because the umpire deemed Nishikori would never have kept the ball in play even if he knew it was good.Nishikori wagged his finger and had a crack at the umpire, but the umpire stood his ground. That made it 6-6 and then 6-7 when Karlovic won the next point but incredibly, Nishikori won two points on Karlovic's serve and gave himself two match points when he went up 9-7. He thumped a return winner at his first opportunity to clinch a thrilling win.Elsewhere, Ukranian Elina Svitolina took just 67 minutes to thunder past Viktoria Kuzmova and reach the third round. But after the match, it was the man sitting in her players box that had tongues wagging of a potential romantic pairing.French star Gael Monfils, who was knocked out yesterday in a five-setter by American Taylor Fritz, was lending his support to Svitolina.Asked about Monfils sitting in her players box, Svitolina was put in an awkward spot. "Yeah...," she laughed followed by a long pause."Everyone saw him so he's supporting me, and hopefully we'll see him more in the future, not only in my box but on the court as well."Monfils has previously dated fellow tennis pro Dominika Cibulkova and Australian Chelsea Altman, who is now married to AFL player Tyson Goldsack. On the court, the sixth seed didn't have it all her own way in the first before demolishing Kuzmova in the second set.Svitolina, a quarter finalist in last years' open, will play Karolina Pliskova after she recorded a 4-6 6-1 6-0 win over Madison Brengle.Pliskova broke the American player's serve six times in seven chances after dropping the opening set. She also sent down seven aces and had 14 service winners. The seventh-seeded Pliskova has now won all three times she has played Brengle. Pliskova has advanced to the quarterfinals each of the last two years at Melbourne Park, including a loss to eventual finalist Simona Halep last year.

Johanna Konta won the first WTA title of her career, and the biggest by any British woman in 30 years after defeating Venus Williams in a nerve-shredding three-set final in Stanford.  Konta, who a year ago was ranked outside the World’s Top 100 and playing ITF tournaments, is now World No.14 and currently ninth in the race to the WTA finals in Singapore. According to The Tennis Podcast team, who convened after the final to discuss her rise, she is increasingly looking like a Top Ten player.  Following her 6-4, 6-2 win over Dominika Cibulkova in the semifinal, Konta raced to a 7-5, 4-1, double-break lead over Williams, and looked to be cruising to the title. Two-time runner-up Li Na of China finally won her first Australian Open women's singles title here on Saturday after beating Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 7-6, 6-0 in the final. The fourth seed, broke Cibulkova's serve in the opening game, but had to fight 70 minutes to win the first set through a tiebreak. Cibulkova, 24, and the first Slovak woman to reach a Grand Slam final, lost her pace in the second set as she failed to keep even just one serve game. After rolling through the second set in 27 minutes, Li held up both thumbs to the crowd, and held back tears. She went immediately to the side of the court to shake hands with her coach Carlos Rodriguez in the stands. The 31-year-old fourth seed was crowned the Melbourne Park champion on her third attempt after losing in the 2011 and 2013 finals, adding to the French Open title she won three years ago. Li Na is popular at Melbourne Park, with her funny post-match interviews and remarks. She had the crowd laughing hysterically again in her victory speech. "Thank you Max, my agent….." Li's supporters were everywhere at Rod Laver Arena, some with Chinese flags painted on their faces, others holding Chinese flags or giant signs painted with Chinese characters. Even after the match, they were still so excited and reluctant to leave`. "I am so happy and excited, and no words can express my minds. Li Na finally gets the Australian Open title. Go, Li Na." "I'm so excited. I really want to stand in the very front to see Li Na holding the trophy. It's the first time a player from Asian country wins the final." At the press conference, Li Na introduced how she struggled to survive in the first set. Although turning 32 years old next month, Li said age is never a problem for her. When asked about her next target, she said she wanted to win another one or two grand Slams. "Last year when I said I want to be top 3, nobody believed me but I did it. At Shenzhen this year, I said I want to win another grand slam, nobody believed me either, but I made it today. So I think I need to keep making targets for myself. I will try to improve my ranking, and I also want to win one or two grand slams." Just as the Chinese characters printed on her T-shirt which meant "A heart without limits", Li Na will go to achieve her next goal bravely.

Our correspondent Wang Xiao sat down for an exclusive interview with Li Na after the match. -------------------- These are teenage boys in Melbourne who call themselves the "Genie Army". They have been singing and cheering for 19-year-old Eugenie Bouchard at every break. But Li Na was solid① in her shot selection and controlled the match, downing the Canadian 6-2, 6-4. With that, Li gets a third shot at victory in the Australian Open final. The Chinese star was dominant② from the beginning, racing to a 5-0 lead and the win. Though the second set was closer because of a series of multiple-deuce service games, Bouchard's inability to hold serve did her in. Li Na's play was stable from the first point to the last, unaffected③ by the Genie Army and cheers for her opponent. Li jokingly④ apologized to Bouchard's supporters after the match. "I'm really sorry. If I do what you want, I'd have to go home now." The star also declared that she is satisfied with the way she played. "I'm so happy that I won. It's my third time reaching Australian open finals, and I'm quite satisfied with that." Li's previous⑤ Australian Open finals saw her lose to Victoria Azarenka last year and to Kim Clijsters in 2011. Li Na says she treasures⑥ those experiences, but she vows to be prepared for the final on Saturday. "These three finals are different. I will not say I didn't play well in the previous two. China's Li Na has advanced to her third Australian Open final and will have to beat Dominika Cibulkova to win her first title at Melbourne Park. The No. 4-seed had a 6-2, 6-4 win over Canadian Eugenie Bouchard while No.20-seeded Cibulkova trounced 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-2. The 25-year-old Slovakian has been the biggest surprise of the tournament, reaching her first Grand Slam final. Li Na was a finalist at Melbourne Park in 2011 and 2013, losing to Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka respectively. She said she's now pretty close to the trophy. (Li Na) "Tough match of course, you know, in the final so I think for sure both will try and fight on the court, because it's one more step to take the trophy. So, we'll see." Li Na, who turns 32 next month, considered quitting the tour after the French Open last year, when she was beaten in the second round.
