There was a ‘morning after the two nights before' feeling about Saturday at the US Open as most of the singles matches finished in straight sets and the big names avoided the upsets. Catherine, David and Matt discuss the setting up of Jasmine Paolini vs Karolina Muchova, statement performances from Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev, VAR controversy involving Beatriz Haddad Maia and Anna Kalinskaya, and Iga Swiatek's progress. Plus, Botic van de Zandschulp reverts to type, we're proud of The Best Player In The World, Caroline Wozniacki's jacket is discussed, and there's a treat for you at the end of the show from David's interview with Jack Draper.
We made it to Middle Sunday at Wimbledon! (Well, not all of us.) The bottom half of the women's draw is guaranteed to see a surprising finalist; in the top half, slightly more order prevails, even after the dismissals of Swiatek and Jabeur. The men's draw is proceeding mostly as expected on the top half, while the bottom has seen the rapid rise of Perricard, the precarious state of Djokovic's repaired knee, and a slightly spicy beef between Taylor Fritz and Arthur Rinderknech. We also witnessed the last of Andy Murray at Wimbledon, featuring a moving tribute, a singles withdrawal, and mother Judy getting into a self-inflicted internet scrape. 1:00 Early upsets set up a very interesting and unexpected women's bottom half 10:10 Navarro knocks out Gauff 18:55 Iga and Ons out within 20 minutes of each other 29:50 The return of Caroline Wozniacki, Esq. 35:50 Andy Murray's last dance at Wimbledon 41:10 AstonishGate 47:25 Stefanos was just here for the *filmmaking*, not the tradwife content 50:40 Have a nice flight home 53:25 Men's results: top half going to form, bottom's a little messy
At the end of an eventful day at Wimbledon, Catherine, David and Matt begin the show by discussing Iga Swiatek's shock third round defeat to Yulia Putintseva. There's analysis of what Putintseva did so well tactically, where it went wrong for Swiatek, how Swiatek reacted in her post match press conference, and whether she will ever crack grass. Last year's finalist, Ons Jabeur, was also beaten as the top half of the women's draw opened up. But Elena Rybakina put in a statement performance to thrash Caroline Wozniacki. On the men's side, there's great excitement about a fourth round clash between Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic after their late night victories, and Ben Shelton vs Jannik Sinner is previewed. The other big story was Emma Raducanu's withdrawal from the mixed doubles, meaning Andy Murray's Wimbledon career is over. We give our reaction to her decision. The Andy Murray Wimbledon farewell ceremony has happened and boy was it emotional. There wasn't a dry eye in Centre Court as Jamie Murray and Andy Murray bowed out in the doubles first round. After the contest Sue Barker returned for one last time to lead a tribute to Andy Murray that featured Novak Djokovic, Venus Williams, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Joel asked Andy what could be his final ever press conference question at Wimbledon and Andy reflected on this tribute verses THAT ceremony at the Australian Open in 2019.Elsewhere Novak Djokovic's movement was tested and the knee injury looked bothersome but he survived in four sets against Jacob Fearnley. Cam Norrie won the battle of the Brits and knocked out British number 1 Jack Draper and Katie Boulter was also upset by Harriet Dart on No.1 Court in a final set tiebreak. In lighter moments we hear from Danielle Collins who did a 'bag check in press' (wear your SPF) and Taylor Fritz who aired out his on court drama with Arthur Rinderknech when he told him to have a "safe flight home" after the infamous Roland Garros shushing incident of 2023.They look ahead to a wet weather day on day 5 of the Championships and make predictions as to who will make it to R4 all before catching an 11pm Caroline Wozniacki press conference to end the day.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Alligevel formåede hun at hive sejren hjem.

Indian Wells is underway but it was a news-heavy week in the tennis world and Catherine, David and Matt begin by discussing the fact that Simona Halep can return to tennis after CAS reduced her suspension to 9 months. Elsewhere, there's chat about Netflix not renewing Break Point for season three, a possible WTA grass court event at The Queen's Club, and the main stories from Indian Wells so far. We cover the withdrawals of Rafael Nadal and Elena Rybakina, Carlos Alcaraz's improved form, whether anyone can beat Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka's incredible comebacks, a Last 16 clash between Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber, and Iga Swiatek redoing her Australian Open experience and making it better.
