Back from our first trip to Roland-Garros, here is part 2 of our RG mid-tournament wrap, this one focusing on the tennis we saw, the happenings on-site, and how the chaotic first week played out more broadly. What's it like to watch a tournament unfold in person while it's already being branded online as chaotic and/or horrible? Well, sometimes your priority is just your next water refill. We'll tell you about players we sought out (Swiatek, Rybakina, Medvedev, Vacherot, Jodar, Tiafoe, and more). We'll take you through the experience of watching Naomi Osaka's walkout and the surreal collapse of Jannik Sinner as it unfolded on Chatrier. As we always do, we'll dip into the messier moments, like the Korpatsch-Wang dust-up, the monumental PR stumbles of Rafa Jodar, and Vallejo's misogynistic bag-fumbling. What a week in Paris; it promises to get weirder before the fortnight is out. 1:00 Nothing new under the sun: Wang pulls a Hingis '99 7:10 She's taking it! Oh – actually, no, sorry 15:25 Iga Swiatek out to Kostyuk 23:10 Telling stories about players and matches we saw: Vacherot, Rybakina, Keys, and more 38:35 Rafa Jodar exonerated, sort of 46:50 Naomi's debut on Lenglen 50:40 James, are you happy to be in Paris? 62:35 Being in Chatrier for the Sinner upset 73:10 Are we all amateur geneticists now? 80:45 These f—ing tarpaulins and Lacoste bollards! 85:25 Wrapping up the draw as it stands
It was a bit of a weird day at Roland Garros, bookended by a couple of big upsets, with Daniil Medvedev and Jessica Pegula both losing. Catherine, David and Matt discuss it all as we finally completed round one. Part one - Men's results. We cover Medvedev's loss to Adam Walton and his poor record generally at the French Open. Felix Auger-Aliassime survived in a fifth set tiebreak, but with that part of the draw looking pretty light, can he keep it going and reach his semi-final seeding? Elsewhere, Jannik Sinner eased through, but will he keep getting the night session slot? Part two - Women's results (34:06). We react to Pegula's shock defeat to Kim Birrell, Naomi Osaka's sparkly outfit reveal, and good starts for Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka. Part three - Sensation/mousquetaire of the day and a cracking Day 4 Order of Play (53:43).Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! Talk tennis with Friends on The Barge! He also covers Moïse Kouamé getting past Grand Slam champion Marin Čilić to finish up Round 1. Finally, Andy shares his thoughts on Gaël Monfils' career and retirement at the 2026 Roland Garros. Old school Tennis and Bagels is BACK with the brains of the podcast: Vansh Vermani, the living tennis encyclopedia brings all his in-depth analysis and knowledge of players' form, injury, court conditions, past results, and more.We are doing a full draw preview, going section by section of both the Roland Garros men's and women's draws and finally making our picks for semi-finalists, finalists, and champions of the 2026 French Open!On the WTA side, great popcorn matches all around, with some really strong potential for upsets that could turn the draw upside down. But also trust in the seeded players, to find solutions, make it deep in the draw, and conquer their nemeses. Will Aryna Sabalenka win her first major of 2026? Will Coco Gauff defend her title with her grit through highs and lows? Can Elena Rybakina complete the Surface Slam? Is it the time that Iga Swiatek will finally overcome the Ostapenko mission impossible? Or is it someone else's time to win big in Paris? On the ATP, the Jannik Sinner question remains unanswered: who can stop him at all? Seemingly unbeatable, it feels like acts of God are his only great challenge left without Alcaraz in the draw and an aging Novak Djokovic. If injury, terrible weather conditions with a brutally hot sun, and/or a miraculous performance by some anointed player doesn't stop him, it feels like nothing will. Though Djokovic already operated miracles during his career, including the Australian Open earlier this year, and Medvedev coming back from getting double-bageled by Berrettini in Monte Carlo to take a set off Sinner in Rome does sound like a godly act, too.Who will prevail on the red clay?Favourite this podcast if you like our work :)SUBSCRIBE to the YouTube channel!Follow TENNIS AND BAGELS!Twitter/X: https://x.com/TennisAndBAGELSAndre:Twitter/X - https://x.com/RolembergAndreBlueSky Social: https://bsky.app/profile/andrerolemberg.bsky.socialVansh: https://x.com/vanshv2kOwen (BlueSky Social): https://bsky.app/profile/owensports.bsky.socialSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. Gill Gross reveals the final 2026 French Open Power Rankings, a fully evidence-based list in order of Roland Garros men's singles contendership. The top-10 seeds in Paris will be Sinner, Zverev, Djokovic, Auger-Alliasime, Shelton, Medvedev, Fritz, De Minaur and Bublik, but only six of those 10 made the Power Rankings. With Alcaraz, Draper and Musetti all out with injury, the tournament's final weekend feels more attainable than ever ahead of the draw reveal. Since Alcaraz announced he'd miss the remainder of the clay season, it was obvious: Jannik Sinner would be utterly unchallenged to win Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. It has gone pretty much as expected from him. Only surprise was losing a set to Medvedev. Other than that, it almost seems disingenuous to say there's any doubt Sinner will sweep the Clay Slam, just like Rafael Nadal did in 2010, the only player to do so.As we close the Masters events on clay, there are some interesting stories still to follow, including Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Jodar. But these will all be left as side quests to Sinner's iron fist domination over the ATP Tour.It seems only a miracle will stop him - and that has now extended itself until Wimbledon, now that Alcaraz has shocked the world one more time by announcing his withdrawal.Favourite this podcast if you like our work :)SUBSCRIBE to the YouTube channel!Follow TENNIS AND BAGELS!Twitter/X: https://x.com/TennisAndBAGELSAndre:Twitter/X - https://x.com/RolembergAndreBlueSky Social: https://bsky.app/profile/andrerolemberg.bsky.socialVansh: https://x.com/vanshv2kOwen (BlueSky Social): https://bsky.app/profile/owensports.bsky.socialSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels.

The disruption of the global economy and stability is causing nations like Germany to shift from pacifist product production to military manufacturing. The Bible is clear that this is how things will unfold. Trump’s tariffs and threats to pull out of NATO are having a significant dual-impact on the German economy.
Andrew Medvedev became dean of the Weatherhead School of Management on July 1, 2024. His focus is on cultivating a culture of trust and belonging in the school, enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration and research, implementing impactful experiential learning, and creating a workplace in which innovation thrives. He envisions Weatherhead as the intellectual entrepreneur's home of choice.“I believe Weatherhead can be an audacious school solving the most urgent challenges in management,” Medvedev said. “I believe we get there by fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, attracting bold talent, making critical investments, and focusing on impacting how people think and act.”Before returning to his alma mater, Medvedev was a managing director and portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. In 2016 Medvedev partnered with trustee Joe Sabatini (MGT '82) to create the school's Wall Street Trek. This alumni-funded program readies undergraduates for financial careers and links them with opportunities in NYC's financial community. Since its inception, about half of the program's 200 alumni have gone on to work on Wall Street. In 2018 Medvedev joined Weatherhead's visiting committee.Medvedev and his family immigrated to Cleveland from Russia in 1992. His ties to CWRU run deep: His mother, Irene Medvedev, served the School of Medicine for 22 years as a senior technologist, and he obtained his undergraduate degree in economics from CWRU in 1997. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2004.Medvedev lives in Shaker Heights with his wife, Christine, and their three children.

Andy Roddick and Jon Wertheim dive deep into the Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz "Monopoly" over the ATP tour. With the two stars holding a combined 26,000+ ranking points, is there any hope for the rest of the field? Plus, we discuss Jack Draper's retirement in Barcelona, Mirra Andreeva's "thank yourself" tradition, and a massive Netflix announcement regarding Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Every Tuesday at 6pm, another hour of tennis news, reviews and opinions drops from James Gray, Calvin Betton and George Bellshaw. This week they discussed... Jannik Sinner wins his first major clay-court title by beating Carlos Alcaraz in a wind-swept Monte Carlo final Has Sinner finally cracked the last surface on which he has not won a slam? What does Alcaraz have to do to arrest his slump in their head-to-head battle? Daniil Medvedev produced one of the all-time meltdowns in Monaco, beaten 6-0, 6-0 by Matteo Berrettini and marmalising a racket on court Valentin Vacherot reached the semi-final of his home tournament and said he would rather win that than a grand slam! Mika Stojsavljevic and Harriet Dart led Great Britain to an unlikely Billie Jean King Cup victory over Australia And more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
This week Erik and Aidan recap the Monte Carlo Masters tournament, the first Masters 1000 event on clay this year. While many people expected Alcaraz to be the favorite in this surface matchup, it ended up being Sinner who rose to the occasion and collected the hardware in the principality. From early round shocks like Berrettini's double bagel over Medvedev, to the final we were hoping to see, it was definitely an exciting tournament this week.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have won all the big titles of 2026, but have yet to play a match this season. The first time they do, it could be for the World No.1 ranking.Since Alcaraz is defending his title at Monte Carlo and Sinner has not played there last year, Alcaraz needs to win the tournament to make sure he'll keep his title for at least another couple of weeks. If not, a Sinner title brings the top position back to the Italian. But also, we just NEED them to play each other. It's been just waaaay too long! They can't be trading the No.1 ranking by simply not playing tournaments or losing early to someone else. It's got to be decided on the court, as they trade blows in front of a massive crowd cheering for every point. On other news, João Fonseca is not in collision route against the Top 2 players this time, but he will have other challenges ahead. Maybe he can play Medvedev this time. If he makes it to the SF, he could face Zverev - who has reached the last four stage at every big tournament this season, and really only loses to Alcaraz and Sinner, though not particularly close to beating any one of them. But he's there, waiting. Anyway, Fonseca will need to get used to playing and beating any player in front of him, not just Sinner and Alcaraz, if he wants to realize the hype that's been following him for a couple years now.Over to the WTA side, where there are 10 1000 events and only two of these are on clay, I ask: why not a third one? And I think the perfect candidate for that is a tournament now far away from its glory days where players of the caliber of Graf, Hingis, Venus Williams, Nadal, and Federer competed for its trophy.Down to an ATP 500 tournament and a 250 event in the WTA calendar, this major city in Germany checks all the boxes to holding a 1000 event on its clay courts. And the calendar spot seems wide open, concurrent with Monte Carlo. Indian Wells saw two new champs settling old scores – Sabalenka winning her first and upending a worrying finals trend vs. Rybakina, and Sinner flying under the radar to grab the title over the more headline-grabbing Medvedev. Daniil has managed to refashion his game without losing the old antics, including asking for (and getting) a confounding hindrance call – and no, I don't feel bad for Jack. We talk about Mirra's crashout, IW misplacing the Venus-Leylah wild card, my certified hater status, and Iga's trajectory. Plus, James takes another quiz and we give our Letterboxd 4, just like the players did this week. 03:45 Aryna hit the I Will Always Love You drum kick and the rest was gravy 15:20 Jannik overcomes Medvedev in two tiebreaks 21:00 Medvedev had an interesting week, to say the least 26:35 Let's not make “F*** you all” your new tagline 33:30 They lost Venus and Leylah's wild card 38:55 Letterboxd 4 46:25 The Oscars 56:20 Not another quiz!
Jimmy drove down to have dinner at Nan Ban Kan, and record a fresh episode of the podcast. Jannik Sinner wins his first Indian Wells crown, which was the only Masters 1000 hard court title missing from his resume. Having only played 2 tournaments so far this year it was nice to see the young Italian play some of the best tennis of the year. Aryna Sabalenka also broke through to win her first IW title after being runner up in 2025 to Andreeva. She played an instant classic vs AO champ Elena Rybakina in the final winning 7-6 in the third. Daniil Medvedev is back playing some of the best tennis of his career and is back in the top ten of the ATP tour. Med played a great match beating Carlos Alcaraz in the SF and almost pushing Sinner to 3 in the final. With 2 titles on the year already it seems like there is more positive things ahead for the Russian. Elena Rybakina has been one of the best players in the world the past 9 months. The AO champ played some amazing tennis to get to the final and was up a set and a break on Sabby before things turned around. In what has to be one of the best matches of the year the two biggest hitters on tour blasted away for 3 high powered sets. Sadly someone had to lose, but something tells us these two will play more important matches down the road. All that plus more on a new episode of the Advantage Connors podcast.
