Ben Shelton continued his breakout 2026 season by winning the Stuttgart grass-court title, defeating fellow American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the final. It was Shelton's first ATP title on grass and his third trophy of the season after earlier successes on hard courts and clay. The title run was anything but straightforward. Shelton survived multiple three-set battles during the week, including a dramatic semifinal victory over Jiří Lehečka in which he saved two match points before prevailing in a final-set tiebreak. With Wimbledon approaching, Shelton's ability to win on all three major surfaces has elevated him into the group of genuine contenders for a deep run in London. Kamil Majchrzak completed a dream week in 's-Hertogenbosch by claiming the first ATP Tour title of his career. The Pole's run included victories over top players, highlighted by wins against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev. Majchrzak reached the final after upsetting Medvedev in straight sets and then completed his remarkable tournament by lifting the trophy, a breakthrough achievement for the 30-year-old. His grass-court form makes him one of the more dangerous unseeded players heading into Wimbledon qualifying and draw discussions. The first week of ATP grass-court action produced two major storylines: Shelton has shown he can transfer his explosive serve and aggressive baseline game to grass, making him a legitimate threat at Wimbledon. Majchrzak's confidence is at a career high after securing his first ATP title and multiple top-level victories. This week's ATP 500 event in Halle serves as one of the strongest Wimbledon tune-ups. Historically, the tournament has favored elite servers and aggressive all-court players. The field is expected to feature many of the tour's leading grass-court performers as they continue preparations for the Championships. Players to watch include: Jannik Sinner, who has been one of the dominant forces of 2026. Ben Shelton, arriving with momentum from Stuttgart. Other Wimbledon contenders looking to fine-tune their grass-court games. The ATP 500 event at Queen's Club traditionally offers one of the clearest indicators of Wimbledon form. The fast conditions reward big serving, aggressive returning, and efficient net play. Key questions entering the week: Can the top contenders quickly adapt from clay to grass? Will a player such as Shelton continue his surge? Which established grass-court specialists will emerge as serious Wimbledon threats? Bottom line: Shelton leaves Stuttgart looking like one of the hottest players on tour, while Majchrzak's maiden ATP title is one of the feel-good stories of the grass season. The spotlight now shifts to Halle and Queen's, where the final pecking order for Wimbledon will begin to take shape. Learn more about your ad choices.
Back from our first trip to Roland-Garros, here is part 2 of our RG mid-tournament wrap, this one focusing on the tennis we saw, the happenings on-site, and how the chaotic first week played out more broadly. What's it like to watch a tournament unfold in person while it's already being branded online as chaotic and/or horrible? Well, sometimes your priority is just your next water refill. We'll tell you about players we sought out (Swiatek, Rybakina, Medvedev, Vacherot, Jodar, Tiafoe, and more). We'll take you through the experience of watching Naomi Osaka's walkout and the surreal collapse of Jannik Sinner as it unfolded on Chatrier. As we always do, we'll dip into the messier moments, like the Korpatsch-Wang dust-up, the monumental PR stumbles of Rafa Jodar, and Vallejo's misogynistic bag-fumbling. What a week in Paris; it promises to get weirder before the fortnight is out. 1:00 Nothing new under the sun: Wang pulls a Hingis '99 7:10 She's taking it! Oh – actually, no, sorry 15:25 Iga Swiatek out to Kostyuk 23:10 Telling stories about players and matches we saw: Vacherot, Rybakina, Keys, and more 38:35 Rafa Jodar exonerated, sort of 46:50 Naomi's debut on Lenglen 50:40 James, are you happy to be in Paris? 62:35 Being in Chatrier for the Sinner upset 73:10 Are we all amateur geneticists now? 80:45 These f—ing tarpaulins and Lacoste bollards! 85:25 Wrapping up the draw as it stands
It was a bit of a weird day at Roland Garros, bookended by a couple of big upsets, with Daniil Medvedev and Jessica Pegula both losing. Catherine, David and Matt discuss it all as we finally completed round one. Part one - Men's results. We cover Medvedev's loss to Adam Walton and his poor record generally at the French Open. Felix Auger-Aliassime survived in a fifth set tiebreak, but with that part of the draw looking pretty light, can he keep it going and reach his semi-final seeding? Elsewhere, Jannik Sinner eased through, but will he keep getting the night session slot? Part two - Women's results (34:06). We react to Pegula's shock defeat to Kim Birrell, Naomi Osaka's sparkly outfit reveal, and good starts for Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka. Part three - Sensation/mousquetaire of the day and a cracking Day 4 Order of Play (53:43).Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! Talk tennis with Friends on The Barge! Andy Roddick breaks down the results from Day 3 of the 2026 French Open. Roddick dives into Daniil Medvedev's Round 1 upset loss to Adam Walton and Jessica Pegula's loss to Kimberly Birrell. He also covers Moïse Kouamé getting past Grand Slam champion Marin Čilić to finish up Round 1. Finally, Andy shares his thoughts on Gaël Monfils' career and retirement at the 2026 Roland Garros. COMMENT BELOW: Who do you think is going to fall in Round 2?
Something Major is officially back. John, Sam, and Steve return from Paris to break down a chaotic opening round at Roland-Garros: surprise exits, brutal heat, questionable scheduling, and a few retirement-era feelings creeping in. Paris also says goodbye to Stan Wawrinka and hometown hero Gaël Monfils, who may have given the fans one last classic five-set battle. The guys revisit Medvedev's latest clay-court disaster, while somehow Sam still thinks he's got a chance against Sinner. They also break down Basavareddy's fearless drop-shot clinic against Fritz and Casper Ruud surviving heat issues, a fourth-set bagel, and still finding a way through in five. On the women's side, most top seeds handled business before Genie Bouchard joins the show to break down the draw and make her pick for the title... a pretty popular one!Plus, things get predictably sidetracked with heat complaints, stomach issues, and Sam accidentally eating 30 multivitamins because he thought they were gummy candy... just another completely "normal" pod episode!00:00 Something Major is BACK!01:54 Stan / Monfils Last Dances04:50 Court Placement Debate06:21 Monfils Sendoff07:56 Record Heat at Roland-Garros09:03 Top Seeds Cruise and Ruud Survival11:29 Americans and Rising Teens13:33 Medvedev Shock Exit Debate15:12 Sam's BIZARRE Vitamin Mishap19:20 Women's Draw20:24 Svitolina Survives21:50 Americans And Upsets23:52 Mens Round 2 Preview26:58 Genie Joins Pod30:15 Hockey Bar Detour?30:51 Wrap Up

But also trust in the seeded players, to find solutions, make it deep in the draw, and conquer their nemeses. Will Aryna Sabalenka win her first major of 2026? Will Coco Gauff defend her title with her grit through highs and lows? Can Elena Rybakina complete the Surface Slam? Is it the time that Iga Swiatek will finally overcome the Ostapenko mission impossible? Or is it someone else's time to win big in Paris? On the ATP, the Jannik Sinner question remains unanswered: who can stop him at all? Seemingly unbeatable, it feels like acts of God are his only great challenge left without Alcaraz in the draw and an aging Novak Djokovic. If injury, terrible weather conditions with a brutally hot sun, and/or a miraculous performance by some anointed player doesn't stop him, it feels like nothing will. Though Djokovic already operated miracles during his career, including the Australian Open earlier this year, and Medvedev coming back from getting double-bageled by Berrettini in Monte Carlo to take a set off Sinner in Rome does sound like a godly act, too.Who will prevail on the red clay?Favourite this podcast if you like our work :)SUBSCRIBE to the YouTube channel!Follow TENNIS AND BAGELS!Twitter/X: https://x.com/TennisAndBAGELSAndre:Twitter/X - https://x.com/RolembergAndreBlueSky Social: https://bsky.app/profile/andrerolemberg.bsky.socialVansh: https://x.com/vanshv2kOwen (BlueSky Social): https://bsky.app/profile/owensports.bsky.socialSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels. Since Alcaraz announced he'd miss the remainder of the clay season, it was obvious: Jannik Sinner would be utterly unchallenged to win Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. It has gone pretty much as expected from him. Only surprise was losing a set to Medvedev. Other than that, it almost seems disingenuous to say there's any doubt Sinner will sweep the Clay Slam, just like Rafael Nadal did in 2010, the only player to do so.As we close the Masters events on clay, there are some interesting stories still to follow, including Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Jodar. But these will all be left as side quests to Sinner's iron fist domination over the ATP Tour.It seems only a miracle will stop him - and that has now extended itself until Wimbledon, now that Alcaraz has shocked the world one more time by announcing his withdrawal.Favourite this podcast if you like our work :)SUBSCRIBE to the YouTube channel!Follow TENNIS AND BAGELS!Twitter/X: https://x.com/TennisAndBAGELSAndre:Twitter/X - https://x.com/RolembergAndreBlueSky Social: https://bsky.app/profile/andrerolemberg.bsky.socialVansh: https://x.com/vanshv2kOwen (BlueSky Social): https://bsky.app/profile/owensports.bsky.socialSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/tennis-and-bagels.

The disruption of the global economy and stability is causing nations like Germany to shift from pacifist product production to military manufacturing. The Bible is clear that this is how things will unfold. Trump’s tariffs and threats to pull out of NATO are having a significant dual-impact on the German economy.

Indian Wells saw two new champs settling old scores – Sabalenka winning her first and upending a worrying finals trend vs. Rybakina, and Sinner flying under the radar to grab the title over the more headline-grabbing Medvedev. Daniil has managed to refashion his game without losing the old antics, including asking for (and getting) a confounding hindrance call – and no, I don't feel bad for Jack. We talk about Mirra's crashout, IW misplacing the Venus-Leylah wild card, my certified hater status, and Iga's trajectory. Jimmy drove down to have dinner at Nan Ban Kan, and record a fresh episode of the podcast. Jannik Sinner wins his first Indian Wells crown, which was the only Masters 1000 hard court title missing from his resume. Having only played 2 tournaments so far this year it was nice to see the young Italian play some of the best tennis of the year. Aryna Sabalenka also broke through to win her first IW title after being runner up in 2025 to Andreeva. She played an instant classic vs AO champ Elena Rybakina in the final winning 7-6 in the third. Daniil Medvedev is back playing some of the best tennis of his career and is back in the top ten of the ATP tour. Med played a great match beating Carlos Alcaraz in the SF and almost pushing Sinner to 3 in the final. With 2 titles on the year already it seems like there is more positive things ahead for the Russian. Elena Rybakina has been one of the best players in the world the past 9 months. The AO champ played some amazing tennis to get to the final and was up a set and a break on Sabby before things turned around. In what has to be one of the best matches of the year the two biggest hitters on tour blasted away for 3 high powered sets. Sadly someone had to lose, but something tells us these two will play more important matches down the road. All that plus more on a new episode of the Advantage Connors podcast.
