Copenhagen's Echocord label returns this September with the release of the ‘Invincible Nature' EP by Altone, featuring remixes from Thomas Fehlmann and Another Channel. Altone, the alias of Tokyo-based Yuki Takasaki, is a prominent figure in the Japanese dub techno scene, having released music on labels such as Greyscale, Lempuyang, Vuo and Æ Recordings. His unique take on dub techno has garnered international recognition within the underground scene. Now, he joins the esteemed Echocord label, a significant force in dub techno for over two decades, led by Kenneth Christiansen. Today's premiere features a laid-back, dub-infused remix by the legendary Swiss producer and composer Thomas Fehlmann, known for his work with The Orb and releases on labels like Kompakt, R&S, Tresor and Apollo to name a few. The remix is characterized by rich sub-bass, glitchy synth modulations that keep morphing throughout the track, and soft dub stabs that add a distinctive touch. The track premieres today on Delayed, with the official release scheduled for September 6th. https://soundcloud.com/thomasfehlmann https://soundcloud.com/deep-step https://soundcloud.com/echocord https://www.instagram.com/echocord_records/ https://www.instagram.com/thomas_fehlmann/ https://www.instagram.com/altone_deepstep/ Follow us on social media: https://soundcloud.com/itsdelayed https://linktr.ee/delayed https://www.itsdelayed.com https://www.facebook.com/itsdelayed https://www.instagram.com/_____delayed https://www.youtube.com/@_____delayed

What is it about dub techno that makes us love it every time we hear those syncopated, heavily reverberated and delayed sounds? Dub makes it easy to get lost in one's own thoughts; to explore the cavernous recesses of one's mind; to get lost and to let go. And thus most dub productions err on the side of dark echo-y sounds devoid of melody, light and levity. Well, Fluxion's Slide, released on one of the premier dub labels, Echochord, breaks that mold by anchoring the track in dub but infusing it with melodic elements, and a sense of fun and groove. A groovy dub? or a dubby groove? Either way, the track makes it easy to get lost inside oneself, but you'll more likely find yourself tapping your foot than chasing the echo. words by https://soundcloud.com/slinkyslava Fluxion on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fluxion Fluxion on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fluxionmusic/ Echocord on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/echocord Echocord on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/echocord_records/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Avenue Red

Avenue Red is proud to present a long-time favourite artist of ours, a man who for over 20 years has been lurking in the darkest, most shadowy lairs of the deep subterranean underground... enter German musical mastermind Stephan Laubner, better known to most down here as STL, also as Lunatik Sound System. Located somewhere amid the Harz mountains in northern Germany, he is well known as a talented and vastly innovative producer, especially in experimental electronic, ambient and deep, dub techno circles. But almost nobody, even in these tightest and narrowest of niches has ever heard a DJ mix from this rather mysterious figure (aside from a totally out of the blue RA Podcast in 2014). Today, that changes, as he has decided to unleash some real fury right here on Avenue Red. His debut release was called "Portside Waves" and was the 13th release on Perlon in 1999, with this spooky, insanely hypnotic track coming with some bizarre infinite locked-groove loops on one side - the flipside featuring Ricardo Villalobos & Martin Schopf under their Ric Y Martin guise. This paved the way for a discography that, at time of writing, totals approximately 100 releases. As well as being the mainstay of his Something label (link below), his releases are scattered across the likes of Smallville Records, echospace [detroit], Echocord, Silent Season, Assemble Music, Phonica White, The Untold Stories and many more. We highly respect and recommend a visit to his hand-rolled Something Records website too, which is packed with soul and contains some amazing secrets waiting to be found. This mix is a live DJ performance riddled with trippy effects and unusual mixing techniques. A mix like no other. It is alien, beautiful, strange, venomous, intoxicating and downright awe-inspiring, as with everything this rare Midas has touched. "Since a while ago I have been in contact with Pierre AKA Caillou. His new label is Chateau Chépère on which I have an upcoming EP. We chatted about music and mixing and shared a few links to each other's publications (he made 2 Avenue Red Podcast episodes: 136 and 172). He was sending me a link to an Avenue Red mix he was doing and so I - or we - had the idea to send a mix from me to AR as well. Since most of the music I make is usually within the studio I am not really a DJ - more a production head. Nevertheless, sometimes I dig out those old vinyls and record a tape. The mix provided was done pretty much out of the feel and almost desire to play some records again. I don't do this every day. I keep that for special times or at meetings with some friends or family. Actually this session turned out to be very much full of life and energy. I wanted to keep with a certain flow. Tightness was not the best. However I think it is still enjoyable. Not just a dead mix, but something coming from taking the action to create something enjoyable, at least for my side. For me the music and the mixing often is something that belongs together. I mean a dub techno mix probably would not have been done this way. Glad Alec is liking it and I hope you enjoy this one at your end too :)" Stephan Laubner, November 2021 https://soundcloud.com/synthonic-matter http://www.something-records.com https://www.discogs.com/label/17573-Something https://www.discogs.com/artist/153541-STL PS. @xdb is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. His roots are in the central German town of Göttingen. It was here that he began DJing in the early nineties; where he worked in a record shop; where he ran a radio show for five years; and the base from which he established the Metrolux record label in 2006. For many people, it was at this point that XDB appeared on their radar. His debut ‘Jackintosh EP' and the following ‘Descap EP' made a splash with heads, but whilst the shimmering dub techno moments were perhaps the most obvious hook, subsequent tracks defied easy categorisation – an early indication that the person behind the music took a broad view of electronic music, caring not for stylistic pigeonholes. Further releases mapped out more of a defined aesthetic for the label, with XDB's own work sitting alongside contributions from Atheus and Arne Weinberg. By 2007, Kosta's music had caught the ear of other outlets; including Francois Kevorkian's Deep Space Media (a sublabel of Wave Music) licensed ‘Descap' and ‘Descap live' for re-release. @brendonmoeller was the A&R at that time and a 4 track EP on Wave Music followed in 2009. The same year, @p-scott put out the first XDB release on his own @sistrum-recordings, which saw Kosta tailoring his output to a cleaner, more Detroit-inflected sound. In tandem with his production work, XDB the DJ was coming into his own. An avid collector of vinyl since his childhood (Kosta's collection presently numbers some 10,000 records); he had honed his craft in clubs and on the radio – mixing monthly on his own ‘Case Check' show. 2008 brought an early highlight – spinning at Japan's lauded Labyrinth festival alongside the cream of the international deep techno and house scene. Kosta's DJ sets draw upon his expansive record collection, playing right across the board of electronic music. He has no shortage of technical skill but it's his selection that truly shines – putting the music itself at the forefront, letting songs breathe when need be, and delivering plenty of head-scratching ‘what the hell is this track?' moments. It's on this that Kosta has built his reputation. Tastemakers such as the now-defunct mnml ssgs crew were quick to snap him up for a guest mix in 2009, and several of his online recordings have been picked up for @resident-advisor ‘Mix of the Day' spot. In 2010, XDB played at the UK's highly-regarded Freerotation festival – starting a love affair with the event that's seen him come back every year since. The festival secured Kosta's place within a fraternity of fellow musicians and DJs who also prefer to let their music do the talking – likeminds who recognise the purity in what they do, and are all the more respected because of it. That same year, he remixed Detroit heroes Norm Talley - @ormalley and Aaron Carl - @aaroncarl and in 2011 produced releases for the Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Echocord imprints. 2012's highlight was a split 12” with Kassem Mosse and in 2013 he was reunited with Sistrum Recordings for the ‘Frocks' record. 2013 also saw the rebirth of Metrolux after a 3 year hiatus, with ‘Edition 2', an excellent Various Artists release. When it comes to producing, Kosta favours a slow and steady work rate, opting to focus on quality control rather than record shop ubiquity. His DJing keeps him in the public eye, but one gets the sense that XDB prefers to operate in the shadows. There's a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Arguably, it's an innate quality – the way he wants to play it; the way that brings him most satisfaction, but it's helped establish his reputation as an artist of considerable merit, winning the approval his audience and peers, alike. Stay Rave with #R13!

Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords @xdb Kosta Athanassiadis, known professionally as XDB, has grown a well-respected career through a slew of fantastic releases on well admired labels for the past 15 years. Of Greek descent but born and raised in Germany, Kosta has the background and experience to be a trusted figure whether making music or chosing music as a dj. Having worked in record stores and radio while fine tuning his djing skills thru the 1990s, a new creative seed grew - Kosta started to make his own productions. This led to starting up his own label named Metrolux in 2006 where his music was featured front and center. Quality over quantity was a must for the output of the label and his own release schedule. His debut ‘Jackintosh EP’ and the following ‘Descap EP’ made quite the impression for those that heard them. From there, he's been popping up on some of the most praised labels in electronic music such as Sistrum, Harbour City Sorrow, Echocord, Ferox as well as Francois Kevorkian's legendary Wave Music label. His music has been described as post-Detroit but firmly european made and devoid of any one genre. A cornicopia of influences that help Kosta's music stand out in a very competitive field. As a remixer, his credits list is long and impressive. This demand from his peers is perhaps the best example that validates his talent. 2020 was a landmark year for Kosta which saw his first full length album that led to rave reviews worldwide. Personality wise, Kosta is low-key letting his music do the talking. His integrity never in doubt and love for electronic music is clear. Keeping his ear to the ground while enjoying his vast vinyl collection. For listeners, it is a true treat hearing Kosta elect tracks for the occasion when he is the dj. Technically and creatively, one of the best whose name is constantly in demand for sets and new music. Whether making new music, remixing or djing, Kosta Athanassiadiska aka XDB is one to follow.

Brendon Moeller offers up his ‘Set In Motion’ EP on Echocord sub-label Echo Echo this September, comprising three originals from the Dub Techno veteran. South Africa, New York based producer and DJ Brendon Moeller aka Beat Pharmacy/Echologist has long been respected as one of the pioneering figures in ethereal, dubbed-out T echno with regular appearances at global hot spots like fabric, Berghain and Cielo as well as releases on labels like Third Ear, Kimochi, Neovinyl and Echocord. Here though we see Moeller joining the roster of the latter’s sub- label Echo Echo, marking its fourth release. Title-track ‘Set In Motion’ leads with Brendon’s signature murky synth textures at its core whilst lumpy low-end tones, shuffled hats and spiraling dub echoes fluidly undulate amongst one another throughout. ‘Eastern Beach’ follows, and as the name would suggest, nods towards brighter sounds with airy pads, soft bell chime synths and pulsating subs driving the composition alongside swinging, heavily reverberated percussion. ‘Economy’ then closes the package, stripping things back to gritty dub stabs, dusty 4/4 drums and billowing noise sweeps. Brendon Moeller’s ‘Set In Motion’ EP is out on Echo Echo 7th September 2018. Tracklist 1. Set In Motion 2. Eastern Beach 3. Economy

Echocord sub-label Echo Echo continues this July with Orbite’s ‘Interstellar’ EP, a three- tracker from the Berlin-based producer. Orbite is a brand new project founded in Berlin, Germany with a nod towards the raw, dubby sounds often heard across the clubs in the city, and where better to inaugurate things than the recently launched sub-label of Copenhagen’s Echocord, one of the leading imprints in the realms of Dub Techno, home to pioneering acts like Rod Modell/Deepchord, Pole and Fluxion who have paved the way for Orbite’s own twist on the genre. The ethereal pad textures of ‘Skylar’ lead on the package, deftly evolving alongside bubbling synth tones, swelling chords and shuffled percussion to create a create dynamically unfolding six and a half minute cut. ‘Moment’ follows, edging things further into dubbed-out territories with heavily delayed dub echoes and mesmeric spoken word poetry intertwining to create a, hypnotic beatless soundscape. ‘Organi’ closes the record with emotive, billowing pads, warm bell like tones and vocal murmurs running alongside swinging shakers and stripped-back micro-house percussion. Orbite’s ‘Interstellar’ EP is out on Echo Echo 13th July 2018. Tracklist 1. Skylar 2. Moment 3. Organi

YouTube: https://youtu.be/KeaEFVfzXGw Kenneth Christiansen and his Echocord label have long been the guardians of dub techno’s second wave. More than that, though, the dane & likeminded friends also builted their very own techno temple in the form of Copenhagen’s intimate Culture Box. Revered all around the world for its focus on quality music and local resident talent, it remains the only place to hear such sounds in the city. More than a decade after starting his label – and later the Echocord Colour sub label - there have been almost 100 EPs and LPs that have constantly updated and revisited the techno and dub template and have very much contributed to the carreers of those that release on it. Kenneth himself is also an accomplished producer as one half of Pattern Repeat with Dennis Bog. The pair release on their eponymously entitled label and excel at crafting moody, textured and widescreen techno sounds that draw on years of dub culture. As a DJ, Kenneth has been spinning ever since the beginning of the 90’s, immediately picking up gigs all around Europe because of his unique style and tightly honed sonic vision. Few people manage to remain credible and engaged with the underground over such a long period of time, but thanks to his devotion to his city, sounds and the scene, this man has managed it with ease and is here to stay. When Kenneth is djing his focus is mostly on Dub-Techno but also he likes to spin the underground edgy house and Techno. Kenneth is a vinyl dj. https://www.facebook.com/echocord.records https://soundcloud.com/kenneth-christiansen https://soundcloud.com/echocord

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” -Plato- For this week we wanted to stir things up a bit by stepping out of our comfort zone. We love Techno, but most important we love music! Our guest for this week is Mikke Metal, a Copenhagen based musician known for numerous releases on Echocord and Kompakt. Both respectable labels in the electronic music scene. According to Mikkel, his approach for this mix was to go for tracks that are patient, eclectic, deep, cool and atmospheric rather than dancy stuff. So the result is a quite diverse selection of tracks. “I started out, half by laziness, not wanting to beatmix, and then decided to make it principle not to beatmix and respect the original tempo of the tracks. Instead I allowed myself to work with effects etc, in order to focus on tonal instead of rhythmical transitions” http://www.mikkelmetal.dk/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/mikkel-metal/138561626163355 Artwork: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo https://www.flickr.com/photos/kurtbudiarto/7271402084/in/photostream/
