Send your thoughts, feelings, opinions and suggestions to 0892096423!As we discuss regularly in the news episode, there are lots of children in Ireland being let down by various systems and some of those children need a safe and caring home. That's where the foster care system comes in. Unfortunately there is a major shortage of foster carers in Ireland at the moment, so today I'm bringing you a chat with Eithne Larkin, Recruitment Lead with Origins Foster Care. Eithne has also been a foster carer herself for 23 years, so she is perfectly positioned to give us an idea of what kind of people make a good foster carer, and the impact it has on the lives of both the children and the carers. I found this conversation incredibly enlightening and moving, and I hope you do too. Bhí Méabh Kealy, atá go fóill sa bhunscoil ar dhuine de na h- iomaitheoirí ab óige a ghlac páirt sa rás 5 ciliméadar inniu. There can't be too many people, certainly in Dublin, who haven't heard of Fitzpatrick's Castle Hotel in Killiney. And while the building itself has a very long history dating all the way back to 1740, its current incarnation began in 1970 when Paddy and Eithne Fitzpatrick fulfilled a lifetime ambition by buying Killiney Castle and its grounds. They initially opened 1 room at a time, eventually reaching 13 rooms in the original castle, before embarking on a massive expansion plan over the 1975 to 1995 period that saw the property grow by 100 rooms, a fitness centre, and conference and meeting spaces. The group then expanded to open hotels in Bunratty, New York, and Chicago before splitting into separate ownership when Paddy died. The Fitzpatrick Castle hotel has been in the ownership of Paddy and Eithne's daughter since 2005 and has been operating for over 50 years. Sitting in front of me are Mark and Joseph Scott Lennon – the current generation of operators. Mark has over 20 years of hospitality experience and took over running Fitzpatrick's Castle in 2012. He has international experience working in Vancouver and New York and is heavily involved in the Irish Hotel Federation as a current member of the national council. Joseph has 14 years hospitality experience packed with international destinations like St Vincent, the Grenadines, New York, and Dubai. He has been hotel manager at Fitzpatrick Castle for the last two years. This is the 22nd episode with guests Mark and Joseph Scott Lennon, Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, in the Davy podcast series 'Everyday Business with Aidan Donnelly'. This podcast brings you insightful conversation between Aidan Donnelly and entrepreneurs and business owners/management with their own unique story to tell. The lifeboats of the RNLI have been saving lives in Irish and UK waters since 1824. Almost entirely run by volunteers, the RNLI have rescued over 144,000 lives since founded, often in very challenging conditions. In this episode of the Met Éireann Podcast, Noel visits the Sligo Bay Lifeboat station and speaks with the crew on how they carry out their vital work and the impact that weather can have on their operations. Noel is first given a tour of the station by Operations Manager Willie Murphy, and then joins Helm Eithne Davis onboard for a detailed run-through of the lifeboat itself. Noel then sits down with Willie, Eithne and RNLI water safety representative, Tim Doran, to learn more about how rescues are carried out, the training involved and how best to remain safe in or around water.
My guest today is the writer, director and TV producer, Bill Hughes. Since 1985, he has made more than a thousand hours of music, arts, entertainment, performance, and documentary programming for R T E , I T V, B B C, P B S, C B C, and ABC in Australia. Many of his films have focused on social exclusion and sexuality, and he has been a leading advocate in the LGBTQ+ community.Bill kindly invited me over to his beautiful apartment beside the Phoenix Park in Dublin for my very first location podcast, and it made for a very relaxed environment and luckily not too much background noise apart from the occasional siren and somebody cutting their grass. As you'll hear, Bill is a natural storyteller and is a voice you could listen to all day long.We spoke about his parents and growing up with his 13 brothers and sisters above his mother's drapery shop in Athy. A surprise ending to his psychiatrist visit to cure him of being gay, Louis Walsh, pulling the poor mouth and making Boyzone's first five music videos for no money. Praying for a miracle with Martin Sheen, How he met his husband, Gary, and their intimate wedding day. The fun times he had with his late sister Eithne, his friendship and weekly phone calls with Loretta Brennan Glucksman, Upstaging the competition at the Provincetown Carnival and so much more. I usually have quite a bit of work to do, editing each podcast afterwards, but with Bill, everything just flowed and there was nothing to edit at all.So please sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy the wonderful Bill Hughes.Thank you for listening and please subscribe (it's free) so you'll be first to get all the new episodes. To see all the images we've talked about during the pod, please have a look on 6 Photographs page hereMy Website is marknixon.comContact: studio@marknixon.com Follow me on Instagram @marknixonstudioOr for my Burning Man photos on Instagram @burningmarknixonFacebook @marknixonstudio

We've reached the penultimate episode of The Hexer and we still have no clue what's going on. So in a desperate attempt to help, we've paired this episode with Navigator Straight Bourbon, which to our delight and dismay proves to be much more enjoyable than what's on screen. Geralt has a bunch of acid flashbacks, Ciri dons a lucha libre mask and Jaskier may or may not declare his love to his favorite witcher (we're still a bit hazy on that). Speaking of Geralt, he doesn't disappear, but Ciri does, while Eithne just never shows up, proving she may just be the smartest one of all. Oh, and we learn the whole thing may have been translated by a cat, which having now seen it, we can't say is all that surprising.

In this episode, we talk about adoption in Ireland and how birth mothers were treated. Eithne shares how she was forced to hide the pregnancy and went on in silent grief over the loss of her child. This story has a surprising twist and is a beautiful reminder of how wonderful things can still come even after trauma. You can listen to this episode on podcast or watch it on YouTube!

Every year, in May, we honor nurses all over the world as we celebrate National Nurses Month. It is an opportunity to advocate for the profession and to promote the value of their hard work and dedication. Being a nurse requires not only specialized education and training but also interpersonal skills and amiable qualities that will help them connect with healthcare consumers better. Needless to say, nursing is a noble profession as it is; but there is a growing specialty practice called Faith Community Nursing that makes this vocation even more challenging but greatly fulfilling at the same time.Imagine having someone to walk alongside you as you go through health crises in your life. What's even better is that aside from the emotional and psychological support that they can give, they are trained professionals who can lay out information and answers to questions that you are too afraid or hesitant to ask doctors and other healthcare providers. That is essentially what faith community nurses aspire to do! With the support of the whole community and the improvement or promotion of healthcare services, faith community nurses strive to develop an integrative model of health and wellness. With this kind of approach, the hope is that more people will be encouraged to address health issues and prevent or minimize illnesses and even mental health conditions. Learn more about Faith Community Nursing from our guests, Eithne Keegan and Linda Mirshafiee in this episode! Memorable Quotes:I think when we all partner together – healthcare providers and parents – in supporting our kids, I think it makes it a much more positive experience. – Linda Mirshafiee We used to come together more as communities around crisis… But as church attendance has shrunk, as we've all become more virtual, as we become more mobile and move around the country, those family networks, those church networks, those community networks seem to be fading, falling apart; and more and more, we're left on our own. – Paul RobertsThere is comfort in knowing that there is a God… and also the purpose of belonging to a community. – Eithne KeeganSometimes you got to get out and seek some help. And maybe it just reinforces what you already thought. Maybe it's just somebody holding your hand saying, “It's okay. You'll figure [it out].” But you need somebody. Being alone is not the answer to going through all of life here. Not at critical moments; I don't think that's when you should be alone. – Paul RobertsResources Mentioned: End GameFrontline: Being MortalHoag Health NetworkAbout the Host:Dung Trinh, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of Irvine Clinical Research, a medical missionary with TongueOut Medical Missions, and holds leadership positions with multiple health care organizations in Orange County. The Irish Annals are full -- full, we tell you -- of detailed histories of the kings of Ireland. Only mostly the details are their names, how long they ruled, and how they died. Though Bran Ardchenn and Eithne were burned to death in a church, we don't know more than that. In this episode, we discuss early Irish history, the Book of Leinster, and Anne's annoyance at not knowing exactly how Bran and Eithne died. Because "burned to death" doesn't really explain much.
In a world where we're constantly flooded with much more than we can handle, may we not forget to seek something to lean on for strength and hope.Healthcare providers – particularly nurses, can best establish a relationship with their patients by fostering a relationship with them to promote healing and wellness.Mind-body-spirit means that wellness does not only come from physical health but mental and spiritual health, as well.
