In our latest Retrosonic Podcast interview special we welcome Tom Powell, the man behind def.fo and contender for one of our albums of the year, "Eternity". You might recognise Tom as the bassist with former Shack and Pale Fountains frontman Mick Head's latest outfit, Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band and here, in a thoroughly entertaining show, Tom discusses the concept behind def.fo and the superb album "Eternity", some of the varied musical influences that helped to shape the sound and the contributors that played their part in creating one of the best albums of 2023, a concise and perfectly plotted debut that effortlessly moves between an eclectic mix of genres, from 60's West Coast Californian harmonies, pastoral Folk Rock with lush orchestral arrangements to 90's Trip-Hop and contemporary Neo-Psychedelia, but despite the varied reference points, it all sounds completely fresh and unique. Tom also covers the amazing reaction to the "Dear Scott" album and the wonderful experience of playing in Japan with Mick and The Red Elastic Band earlier this year. Anyway, please enjoy Tom's company in this latest episode which is also soundtracked with a selection of songs from the "Eternity" album. You might have read about a big ship over the last week. A very big, very stuck ship. On Tuesday of last week, a 400 meter long, 200,000-tonne ship became wedged across the Suez Canal, in Egypt. So why is this a news story? And why can't we stop laughing at the memes it's generated?  Plus, a couples counselor claims that the most common reason couples fall out of love and stop being intimate is because of a pursuer-distancer dynamic that develops over time. So what does it mean if you're the pursuer or the distancer in your relationships, romantic or otherwise?  And, is botox the new baseline of beauty standards? Why do some years of our lives seem to pass by in a flash, when the smallest of moments can feel infinitely frozen? In “Century,” two voices offer their radically different perspectives on the sensation of time: Centenarian Margaret Shein shares that time speeds by much faster after having lived for an entire century, while Joy Simmonds details a terrifying car accident where she felt suspended in time and found an odd sense of peace. Adding to the mystery of time’s physicality, geology professor Ulrich Wortmann speaks to certain instances in which the passing of millions of years has left no trace in nature. And in a mind-bending reflection on time and memory, physicist and time-travel researcher Ben Tippett breaks down the very real possibility of future time travel, and explains how the past lives on forever in the space-time continuum. «Strong Bout U». «Barry W.». «Brand New Thing». «Fun, Fun, Fun». Con esta canción nos despedimos por hoy.
