Yes, Dot Hacker's lead vocalist Josh Klinghoffer played guitar with Red Hot Chili Peppers for 10 years - trigger warning for some - but before forming in 2008 all four members were already established musicians, recording and touring with an impressive list of respected artists including: Beck, Gnarls Barkley, PJ Harvey, The Butthole Surfers and Broken Bells amongst many others. This week's guest, musician/audio engineer Layla Moheimani, fell instantly under the spell of the band and their lush, architectural-yet-still-rocking debut release 'Inhibition'. Songs discussed in this episode: What Red Hot Chili Peppers Sound Like To People Who Don't Like Red Hot Chili Peppers - There I Ruined It; Unreachable - John Frusciante; Billie Holiday - Warpaint; The Afterglow - John Frusciante & Josh Klinghoffer; Going On - Gnarls Barkley; Biblical Violence - Hella; Overpour - E V Kain; Order/Disorder, Idleidolidyl, Eye Opener, Discotheque, Be Leaving, The Earth Beneath, Inhibition - Dot Hacker; Mystic Lady - T-Rex; The Wit of the Staircase - Dot Hacker; Dreams of a Samurai - Red Hot Chili Peppers; Quotes, Puncture - Dot Hacker; Fade Into You (Mazzy Star cover) - Layla Joon

The Evolution Of Disco (4/4)The penultimate instalment of this docuseries. Emerging from the rubble of the Disco scene, we trace the roots of one of the most influential clubs in Dance music culture, why it was soo successful & the life of its iconic resident, Larry Levan. Scored by the track list of this seminal Discotheque, we look at the songs that channeled the spirit of those early Loft parties that followed the Stonewall Rebellion & how Larrys Story serves as an inspiration to all who followed in his footsteps. -DocumentariesLarrys GarageNile Rodgers Hit MakerStudio 54 - The Documentary Studio 54 - Behind The ScenesParis Is BurningHow To Survive A PlagueStonewall ForeverThe Death & Life Of Marshal P JohnsonCRACK - Cocaine, Corruption & ConspiracyWojnarowicz - Art AIDS & Newyork In The 80sFear City - Newyork Vs The MafiaDisco: Soundtrack Of A Revolution-Films About The Era120 BPMIts A SinPrideDallas Buyers Club-Spotlight on Queer StoriesFemmePrideDallas Buyers ClubIts A SinThe Stonewall UprisingThe Death & Life Of Marshal P JohnsonWojnarowicz - Art AIDS & Newyork In The 80sThe Stonewall UprisingStonewall ForeverParis Is Burning120 BPM

Back in 2006 I created a mix called 'Cosmic Discotheque' that became one of the most well received mixes I have ever put together. The spirit of this mix has continued to resonate with me - an immersive kaleidoscope of uplifting sounds, sparkles, and joy but with plenty of grunt too. So I thought, 17 years on (!) I really should continue where I left off. I hope you enjoy. If you do, please share, repost, like and comment - it really helps. x

Aside from the usual stuff about capturing photos and listening to audio, Mark Zuckerberg casually dropped that he thinks they will soon be an interface into conversational AI. It comes as there are rumours of other companies considering AI devices, like OpenAI working with former Apple design boss Jony Ive. What a Creep“Disco Demolition Night: July 12, 1979”Season 20, Episode 1Margo and Sonia put on our boogie shoes and prepare to call bull shit on all of the excuses given for “Disco Demolition Night” on Thursday, July 12, 1979, at Comiskey Park in Chicago, IL. A group of boring, racist, sexist, and homophobic idiots decided disco music had been popular for too long. For fun, Chicago shock jock Steve Dahl created a stunt to destroy LPs on the field of a White Sox & Detroit Tigers game! Mayhem ensued due to the hyped (and hopped) up a crowd of meatheads who had decided that things like Saturday Night Fever, partner dancing, and people who were not “musicians” should have any success, much less a part of pop culture. All of this disco fuss (which coincided with Anita Bryant's gay bashing on the news every night) makes us realize that fighting pop culture “wars” is a sad, furious (and deeply stupid)tale as old as time. We have THOUGHTS about this one! It's our 100th episode, ya'll!!! Today's case is near and dear to Claudia's heart and "what got her into true crime" and obsessed with unsolved cases. A series of 7 girls disappeared without a trace from her hometown of Bremerhaven, Germany and surrounding towns between 1977-1986 after going to or coming from the Discotheque. To this day the disappearances of Anja Beggers, Anke Schreckenbach, Christina Bohle, Anja Kielmann, Jutta Schneefuss, Andrea Martens and Irene Warnke remain unsolved. I also want to mention that all these women are presumed murdered....no bodies were ever found, except for Irene Warnke, however, her murder also remains unsolved. If you have any information about either of these cases you can call the Cuxhaven Police Tip Line at 04721/573200 or you can send an email to xy@zdf.deGrab tickets to our LIVE SHOW here: https://thebellmansion.com/shop/ols/products/judgy-girls-live-podcastHey! Even though the votes are still being counted, midterm elections are done. We don't know who will be in charge of the Senate or the House just yet. A few states are requiring a runoff election. And there's still a lot of overall uncertainty. But one thing we do know for certain is that this--and every election--has a very profound impact on your wallet today and in the future. On this episode we break down elections, political parties, the various branches of government, and how they all strategize in favor of, or against, your wallet.
Poor unsuspecting Ryan. He's already tired because it's a late recording session and then Andy subjects him to a range of Eurovision songs that are not exactly his bag. Understatement. To be fair things start off well with Ben and Tan singing Yes in emphatic style for Denmark in Eurovision's lost year and Andy reveals the song's special heart-warming significance, but then - Wham! - its Andy track after Andy track. First there's Celtic overload from Ireland's Dervish whose lead singer Mary performed pretty abysmally on the night back in 2008, then we have Finnish Fredi who wants to Pump Pump, especially with his enthusiastic (and newly christened) friends Sue and Cheryl. There is no respite for Ryan from the next two acts. Blue-tighted, seashell necklace-wearing Vikki who side stepped her way through the song Love Is but failed to ignite the interest of the British record-buying public at the time, despite placing a respectable 4thin the contest. Željko Joksimović's beautiful Lane Moje is also right up Andy's strasse with its soaring Serbian instrumentals, but Ryan is still out in the cold. This episode's Deuce award nomination, Maltese singer Nicole Azzapardi, warms his pop heart a little with Into the Fire, but it's up to the Randomiser and its 2021 choice - The Roop's Discotheque - to revive him fully. So how will you fare dear listener? Maybe you too are more Ryan than Andy or maybe you are more Andy than Ryan? Either way, we hope you enjoy this episode regardless. A message from Andy & Ryan: Please review us on Apple Podcasts and like and share our content wherever you can - it will help others find us and makes us happy. Thank you!
