Laugh Out Loud is paying tribute to a young comedian who died last week from cancer, Dion Arnold. He recorded a set along with Eman El-Husseini at the Die Laughing Gala at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival a couple of years ago - injecting some much needed humour into the topic of death.
Is religion funny? Or are some subjects just too sacred for satire?Religious institutions are large establishments, but does this give people the right to joke about them? And can religion itself be seen as funny? Aleem Maqbool talks to Eman El Husseini, Muslim comedian, and wife of Jewish comic Jess Salomon who together hosted Comedians vs The News on BBC World Service, about her belief that religion itself is funny and how this influences her stand-up material. Comedians Rachel Creeger, Paul Kerensa, and Aatif Nawaz join our panel to discuss when they started to joke about faith, whether they think religion is funny and whether we should draw a line between what we should and shouldn't joke about. Producers: Katharine Longworth and Rebecca Maxted Assistant Producer: Ruth Purser

Today I make the case that artists have a lot in common with stand-up comedians. Comics give excellent pep talks and advice to each other about staying the creative course and weathering career setbacks and I think we can benefit from eavesdropping on some of their road-honed wisdom. If you're comedian Eman El-Husseini's therapist, DO NOT listen to this episode. We had so much fun catching up with Eman about all of her 'late in life' activities, like getting into edibles and terrible lesbian movies. Also, why do people in Buffalo allegedly hate Bon Jovi? Is it okay to compete in couples therapy? How can a bulldog be ugly? Are lesbian personal trainers better? And why does Eman want people to touch her arms, but "just a little?" Plus, our very different gayest things of the week, and some apartment building gossip. -Get extra content EACH WEEK, Ad Free episodes, support the pod, and get to know other listeners by joining our Patreon community.
