“The Day of Distinction (Yawm al-Furqan): Reflections on Faith, Sacrifice, and Victory”Introduction: 17th Ramadan – Yawm al-Badr• Significance: The 17th of Ramadan marks the historic Battle of Badr, the greatest military victory of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.• Ramadan has historically been a month of significant victories:• Battle of Badr (2 AH)• Conquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah) (8 AH)BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Why Badr Matters• Known in the Qur'an as Yawm al-Furqan (Day of Distinction), clearly differentiating truth from falsehood.• Sahaba who participated (Ahlul Badr, 313 companions) are ranked highest among companions.• Guaranteed paradise (Hadith: “Do as you please; you have been forgiven.”)• Prophet ﷺ honoured them with special recognition even in funeral prayers (six takbirs instead of four).• Angels who participated were also the highest-ranking angels, led by Jibreel (AS).Historical Context: Prelude to Badr• Migration (Hijrah) forced Muslims to abandon homes, wealth, and possessions in Makkah.• Quraysh confiscated Muslim properties, using these resources for lucrative trade caravans (Rehlat ash-Shita'i was-Saif).• Muslims aimed to reclaim their rightful property by intercepting a Qurayshi caravan led by Abu Sufyan, triggering events leading to Badr. From Caravan Raid to Full-scale Battle• 313 Muslims set out initially to intercept a lightly guarded caravan, not expecting battle.• Quraysh gathered 1,300 soldiers, heavily armed, under leadership of Abu Jahl, aiming to decisively crush Muslims.Intervention by Shaytan (Iblis)• Quraysh initially hesitant to leave Makkah undefended due to fear of attack from Banu Bakar tribe.• Shaytan appeared disguised as Suraqah ibn Malik of Banu Bakar, assuring Quraysh of safety, urging them to fight.• Quranic Reference: (Surah Al-Anfal) highlighting how Shaytan deceived and encouraged Quraysh to battle. Thanks for reading BeQuranic! This post is public so feel free to share it.Strategic Decisions and Divine Support• Prophet ﷺ strategically positioned Muslims at wells, guided by advice from companion Hubab ibn al-Mundhir.• Muslims experienced miraculous comfort:• Peaceful sleep despite imminent danger.• Gentle rain provided stability, comfort, and firm ground.• Quraysh, by contrast, experienced discomfort:• Heavy rain, causing fatigue and difficult terrain.Prophet's ﷺ Prayer and Trust in Allah• Prophet ﷺ spent the night in fervent du'a:• Notably repeating “Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum” (O Ever-Living, O Sustainer).• Made urgent du'a, recognizing critical significance: “If this small group is destroyed, Islam itself will vanish.”• Encouragement from Abu Bakr comforting the Prophet ﷺ, assuring him of Allah's help. The Battle: Angels Descend• Muslims arranged strategically (in straight lines), introducing new disciplined military tactics unfamiliar to Arabs.• Jibreel and angels appeared, visibly fighting alongside Muslims, terrifying Quraysh.• Shaytan (in form of Suraqah) fled upon seeing angels, declaring: “I see what you see not; I fear Allah.”Outcomes and Consequences of Badr• Decisive Victory: Muslims achieved overwhelming victory.• Quraysh lost over 70 key leaders (e.g., Abu Jahl, Umayyah ibn Khalaf).• Muslims had minimal casualties (~14 martyrs).• Islam recognized as a significant force across Arabian Peninsula for the first time, marking the beginning of its rise.Lessons & Reflections from Badr• Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah): Trusting Allah fully despite overwhelming odds.• Sincerity and Sacrifice: Muslims left everything behind purely for Allah's sake.• Unity in Diversity: Prophet ﷺ strategically utilized companions' diverse backgrounds (Muhajirin & Ansar) for strength.• Recognition of True Heroes: Encouraged knowing Sahaba (e.g., Mus'ab ibn Umair, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib) as genuine role models, over fictional or superficial heroes.Practical Takeaways:• Tonight's Remembrance: Emulate Prophet's du'a:• Recite “Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum”, seeking Allah's aid for personal and collective struggles.• Reflect deeply on the legacy and lessons of Badr.• Renew personal commitments towards Islam, inspired by Sahaba's exemplary courage and sacrifice.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Conclusion: Honouring Ahlul Badr• Recognize the importance of commemorating and honouring our Islamic heritage.• Tonight, spend extra effort in worship, remembrance, and reflection on the spirit of Badr.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. When sins become a habit, the heart stops feeling their weight. Over time, what once felt heavy becomes effortless. Shaytan tightens his grip, making disobedience feel normal—until the heart no longer flinches. In this session of Al-Manāhil al-Ḥisān fī Durūs Ramaḍān, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan exposes the danger of becoming desensitized to sins — how they blacken the heart and make you a soldier in Shaytan's army against yourself. Will you break free or continue marching toward destruction? If you want to know how to approach your Duas with an open heart and full faith, then listen to this podcast by Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef (rA)……as he talks about the mental hurdles we face in making Duas.Sometimes, we hesitate, not fully believing our prayer can be answered. But remember, even Shaytan made Du'a, and Allah answered it. When we reflect on this, we realize that Allah's doors of mercy and acceptance are always open for anyone who calls upon Him.Shaytan, despite being misguided, possesses knowledge and has used it throughout history, as we see in the Battle of Badr. Here, he attempted to mislead the disbelievers against the Muslims but quickly fled when he saw the angels descending. Understanding Shaytan's actions reminds us to never doubt the strength of Allah's protection over the believers.Remember, no matter how much he's cornered you, when you call upon Allah, know that your voice is heard. Never let doubt creep into your heart, thinking you're somehow overlooked by Allah. He is the Most Merciful, and He promises to respond to His servants.

Make sure to stay until the end when I share my absolute favorite aya of the entire surah and why it blew my mind. In this episode we discuss the events of surat Yusuf after he is put in the well and his brothers come back to their father with a heinous lie. You will learn: The characteristics of playing victim to shield against accountability when in the wrong. The difference between the influence of Shaytan and that of our own nafs when we act outside our values. How dehumanizing others harms the oppressor. The real meaning of “beautiful patience.” How to hold space for our children to return to righteousness even when they've lost their way. The symbolism of the shirt as a literary device in surat Yusuf.
Why are we making Shaytan's job easier by second-guessing whether we're even worth something to Allah or not?“Is He disappointed in me?”“Am I not worthy of His love?”These questions might be swarming inside your head, keeping you locked out of the place where you need to be - a place where you can begin to have trust that Allah's promises are on their way…And let go of the devilish perceptions that endanger our faith.Remember: Allah's answer always comes to those who simply ask. But, If you're approaching Him (swt) with guilt and shame, it can “make” you discard your Dream Dua.Put yourself in Yunus's (AS) shoes for a moment, imagine being stuck in the belly of a whale, but even in those darkest moments, he never held back from asking Allah for help & forgiveness..You see…It's finally your turn to rediscover who you really are, and what you really want……and not have a moment's doubt before asking Allah for it all.Your emotional and mental state needs to be stable and balanced for you to “reword” and “supercharge” your call to Allah. And it's about time you start asking Allah for the things you want.
In this podcast we talk about some current events regarding what's going on in the world today and around the Muslim ummah. We talk about a lot of topics as well such as how Muslims are being tried right now, how we deal with hardship, reflecting on ourselves and how shaytan will always try to lessen our rewards or push us away from the things that please Allah, and more!!
