Petrovsky, pregnancy, performance art, and pubic hair (yes, again). It's “Sex and the City” S6 Ep 12! And as I baked “I love you” cookies with Laura House (“Mouth Punch”) and the performance artist herself, Beth Lapides (“Uncabaret”), I couldn't help but wonder: Are there any episodes that are NOT pube-related? Got a burning question about a relationship or friendship problem (or really anything Sex and the City adjacent)? Just record a voice memo on your phone and email it to AndJustLikeMatt@gmail.com and Matt will answer your question on the show with his very fancy guests.

My guest today embodies the self-made spirit of Hot Breath!, ever since the age of 5 while in the hospital with an auto-immune disease she has thought “there's gotta be a better way” and that has become a mantra in helping her navigate the crazy comedy world. She noticed LA comedy was too showcasey and decided to start her own show, Uncabaret, which just celebrated 25 years running. With hope to help others stop thinking and start doing, she released her new book “So you Need to Decide” featuring comedians like Margaret Cho, Bob Odenkirk and many more. Beth Lapides gave a stage to pretty much any comic you've ever liked from the alt-comedy scene in Los Angeles. Patton Oswalt, Dana Gould, Janeane Garafalo, the list goes on and on. Her show Un-Cabaret was, and is, legendary for letting unique artists explore their perspectives in front of a rapt audience. I've even done it! It's spectacular. Beth is also a performer herself, as well as a writer and teacher. She's even got a new audiobook out now called “You Need to Decide.” We got into things on this episode, Mightys! The insight was huge, but so were the laughs. Listen and enjoy, because I sure did. Call Matt and ask a question 323-763-0228 New episodes arrive every Thursday via The Laugh Button. This week on Good One, host Jesse David Fox takes a deep dive into one of his favorite topics: alt comedy! Called the godmother of alternative comedy by The LA Times, Beth Lapides is the creator and host of Los Angeles' legendary storytelling show UnCabaret. Now in its 28th year, UnCabaret is the un-homophobic, un-xenophobic, un-misogynistic and un-hacky place for comedy luminaries to tell stories ripped from the headlines of their lives. Beth Lapides recently released a new audiobook, So You Need to Decide, that delivers a funny and heartfelt meditation on the power of decisions, the place for regret, and the space for grace. This series of intimate conversations with a diverse group of comedians, writers, and cultural icons revolves around five universal experiences: family, work, love, moving, and spirituality. Beth Lapides joins KATG to discuss her new audiobook So You Need to Decide. The gang discusses AA, dumping your partner after your mother takes their kidney, and a newscaster getting hit by a car on air in front of an unempathetic news anchor in the studio. The trio also discusses the deaths of Meat Loaf and Louis Anderson!!!
Things take a long time to begin is but one of the brilliant takeaways from this episode of Camera Ready & Abel with Beth Lapides exploring everything that goes into making a decision (even when we think we're avoiding them) from her new audio book, So You Need to Decide…a series of intimate conversations with a diverse group of comedians, writers, and cultural icons revolving around five universal experiences: family, work, love, moving, and spirituality. Featuring original interviews with Margaret Cho, Isaac Mizrahi, Bob Odenkirk, Phoebe Bridgers, Baron Vaughn, Aparna Nancherla, Merrill Markoe, and Josh Gondelman, and with research assistance by Mathew Klickstein, So You Need to Decide ultimately challenges the listener to choose how they want to live - bigger or smaller, with artifice or authenticity. Beth is the godmother of alternative comedy and the creator, host and producer of LA's Uncabaret - the first alternative comedy show (ever!) - which Beth launched nearly 30 years ago to provide a space that was unhomophobic, unxenophobic, unmisogynistic...UNCABARET. She also discusses how social media has changed the show, the Father's Day show that got really dark, her first time performing in a comedy club, embracing the terms "performo-tainment" and "god-shot," and the goof she made the first time she did stand-up. Two of the funniest guys in the game, Randy & Jason Sklar can honestly lay claim to the title of Comedians, and also Sportscasters, and also Actors, and also Husbands and Dads, and also Twins. Beloved member's of the UnCabaret family, they have been seen on everthing from their own Comedy Central specials to Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage & It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, The United Stats of America and UnCabaret's own Amazon episode's. They are double the fun (yes we went there) as they tell Beth Lapides what makes them them.
