We get it because we live it every day, and we want everyone to find inspiration, support and a community that helps make military life a little bit better - a rising tide lifts all boats. Founded in 2018, the Milspo Network CIC has been built on the goodwill of its members and the support of its volunteers. After a series of failed funding bids and a struggle to change the narrative of why this community needs that extra bit of support, we are now looking for sponsorship or financial help so that Milspo can continue to provide into 2024. Please do spread the word or connect us with those who would like to make a difference and directly support the military family, a community at the heart of the UK Armed Forces and all it does.

In this episode of the Unapologetic Mompreneur podcast, I'm chatting with the incredible Emma Gray from Rainbow Hunting all about life sadmin (wills, power of attorney etc.) and how to process grief emotions so that we are better prepared to weather life's storms and live our best lives now. A subject a little different to what is usually discussed here on the podcast, I felt it necessary to have an episode like this because it's an incredibly important topic that just isn't talked about enough and a topic that a lot of us (myself included) are scared to talk about and address. But Emma takes away all of that fear. Not only is her story and the journey she has been on that's led her to where she is now and the amazing way she's helping others incredibly humbling, but her tips, strategies and empowering messages will give you the confidence and encouragement to take the steps you need to take to make sure you're prepared and have that peace of mind - both as a mompreneur and as a family - should the worst, whether it's illness, trauma or loss, happen. If you've recently been through a difficult or traumatic time, this may be a hard episode to listen to, but I encourage you to if you can because it might just give you the hope, encouragement and support you've been looking for. (WARNING: This episode includes references to breast cancer, trauma, loss, bereavement and grief which some listeners may find upsetting.) Connect with Emma:

The robots are coming for all of us. Companies like Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, are using books to train their AI machines without asking for permission. Jo did a search on The Atlantic's database of books that AI is using to train its robots to steal our livelihoods and found FIVE of her titles on there. We are now clearly living in the Matrix. It begs the question of what else are these companies hiding and what else could they be stealing from us. We have to care about how Meta uses author's works because it is a reflection of how little they respect anyone's words, thoughts or images. “Barbie,” the summer blockbuster about the world's most famous doll, has a lot to say about the intersection of art, commerce, gender, identity, and a life well lived. But one reason it has raked in more than $1 billion in global box office sales is because it offers a provocative and funny send-up of mind-numbing, soul-crushing corporate conformity. Barbie is totemic and has had the power to brainwash, inspire, derail, and draw in the girls who have played with her for decades. The movie explores all of that, largely unflinchingly, even if it does pull a few of its punches. Mattel may be having the last laugh: It's raking in handsome piles of cash from all of this – at movie theaters, in sales of related merch, and in its newfound role as the purveyor of franchise toys that can be made into boffo, franchise films. This week, Kate's on mat leave and invited Claire and Emma (from Love To See It podcast, formerly Here to Make Friends) to review one of Kate's favorite semi-problematic romantic comedies: The Wedding Planner. They discuss the wedding romcom industrial complex, some of their favorite recent romantic recaps that did or didn't stand the test of time, and then dive into one of J. Lo's finest films, where the audience is made to root for a wedding vendor creeping behind their client's back to seduce the groom. They LOL at the tried-and-true tropes, eye-roll at the gender dynamics, talk about the unlucky-in-love career woman archetype, and reexamine Matthew McConaughey's character, wondering just how much ethically questionable behavior we're willing to overlook if you work at a children's hospital and save a Jimmy Choo from being steamrolled by a dumpster. On episode 8, season 27 of The Bachelor, contestant Ariel Frenkel, who hails from a Ukrainian Jewish immigrant family in New York, is seen leading all-American Bachelor Zach Shallcross around New York City, feeding him cow tongue sandwiches and gefilte fish from Sarge's Deli and telling him her family's story of fleeing the Soviet Union. Such overt references to Jewishness are unprecedented on the franchise; though the show has featured a few Jewish leads, it tends to downplay contestants' references to their minority identities and center stories of people using their Christian values to guide them toward love. On this episode of On the Nose, associate editor Mari Cohen and fellow Dahlia Krutkovich join Hannah Srajer, an organizer and PhD candidate in history at Yale University, and Xandra Ellin, a producer at Pineapple Street Studios, to talk about Frenkel's improbable run on the show. They discuss how the portrayal of Frenkel's as an exotic other illuminates the show's identification with white Christian patriarchy, why the Jewishness of another contestant involved in a racist scandal flew under the radar, and what to make of a pro-Israel article Frenkel published in 2014. Thanks to Jesse Brenneman for producing and to Nathan Salsburg for the use of his song “VIII (All That Were Calculated Have Passed).” Related Articles: “‘The Bachelor' Has A Race — And Racism — Problem,” Emma Gray and Claire Fallon, The Huffington Post “Why Haven't We Had an Openly Jewish Bachelorette?” Catherine Horowitz, Jewish Women's Archive Former ‘Bachelor' contestant Greer Blitzer apologizes for defending racist blackface, Jonah Valdez, Los Angeles Times “This ‘Bachelor' Finalist's Op-Ed Was Mysteriously Deleted Before Premiere,” Noor Ibrahim, The Daily Beast
