This week Israel observed the 'minor' holiday of Lag B'Omer - the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer. What is the story behind this day? Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman reflect on the history of the great sage Rabbi Akiva and his student Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, who rebelled against Roman occupation of the Land of Israel, and is credited with authoring the Zohar. What is the role of a 'tzaddik,' an exceptionally righteous person, in Torah thought? And why is it customary to pray at the tombs of the righteous? Our hosts engage in a fascinating conversation that conveys many lessons about venerating the righteous, and the power of prayer._________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Join our new WhatsApp channel! https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDN...Rabbi Chaim Richman's 'Jerusalem Lights', a non-profit educational organization, shares the wisdom of Torah teachings with all sincere spiritual seekers, emphasizing the ennoblement of the human spirit, the brotherhood of mankind, and the nurturing and development of each individual's personal faith and relationship with the Creator. Today is Lag B'Omer. We are taught that we celebrate because there was a pause in the deaths of Rabbi Akiva's 24,000 students. But why would we celebrate that nothing terrible happened? Rabbi Yaakov Ruderman reveals a deeper meaning. Rabbi Akiva, already an old man, lost everything - his students, his life's work, his entire legacy. In the face of unimaginable grief, he made a decision that changed Jewish history: he began again. With just five remaining students, he rebuilt what had been lost - and more. Lag B'Omer is not a celebration of what stopped. It is a celebration of what came next. It is the quiet, unbreakable Jewish refusal to give up. It is the voice that has carried us through loss after loss, generation after generation - a voice we have heard again so powerfully in our own time: We will dance again. Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

We cannot begin to imagine how great and powerful our tefillot are. It says in the Tanna D'Bei Eliyahu Zutah, Perek Vav, that Hashem told Moshe, "You will not be able to understand My ways, but I will tell you something about Me." When I see a person stand up to pray before Me, say words of praise, and then beg for help—even if that person does not have good deeds, and his parents do not have good deeds, and even his grandparents do not have good deeds—just because he asked Me properly, I will help him. And if a person prays with true kavanah, the tefillah becomes infinitely greater. The Ya'avetz writes that a person must know how his tefillah can find favor in Hashem's eyes. The main focus should be on the Amidah. If a person says it with the simple meaning of the words in mind, it is more pleasing to Hashem than any type of korban. And the more a person's heart is in it, the more powerful the tefillah becomes. He writes further that tefillah with kavanah has the power to silence all of the prosecuting angels. The Shelah HaKadosh explains that having kavanah means not thinking about anything else while we are praying, and to feel happiness that we are connecting to Hashem as we speak to Him. When a person reaches that level, it is considered such a great avodah that it is beyond what we can even describe. And all of this is speaking about tefillah during regular times. A tefillah made during an et ratzon—a special time of favor—is even more powerful. A certain man once came to the holy Rabbi Moshe of Rozvodov, asking for a yeshuah for something he needed very badly. The Rabbi told him to come back on Lag B'omer, because then it would be an et ratzon—a time of great favor before Hashem—and it would be more fitting to receive salvation in the merit of the Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. He brought a hint from a pasuk: " לבי ובשרי ירננו אל א-ל חי ." לבי —after thirty-two days, which brings us to the thirty-third day. ובשרי —stands for Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. ירננו —referring to tefillah. אל א-ל חי —to the living Hashem. On this day, the Zohar writes, the heavenly gates are wide open. The Arizal teaches that on this day, judgments are sweetened—din turns into rachamim. It is a day of great divine favor. On this day, the lights in Shamayim begin to shine in preparation for the awesome day of Matan Torah. The Chatam Sofer says that on this day, the Jewish people began eating the mann, the heavenly food that elevated them and prepared them to receive the Torah. One of the reasons we light fires on this day is to show that the lights in Shamayim are beginning to shine—seventeen days( טוב ) before Matan Torah. In the Sefirot, Lag BaOmer is Hod she'b'Hod, which has a connection to the holiness of Yom Kippur. Throughout the generations, people have received great salvations on this day. Tefillah is always powerful, but on days of et ratzon, it is even more powerful. Let us take advantage of this special time and pray with more kavanah, understanding that Hashem is right in front of us, listening to every word. He can help us with any need that we have, and we do not need anyone but Him. Let us feel calm, knowing we are standing before the only One who can help us, and He is giving us His full attention, waiting for us to ask Him for all of our needs.

Lag BaomerUnstoppable Prayer, Real Relationship. One of the most famous blessings associated with Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi) is his power to help childless couples. The Jewish people have long attributed a special spiritual remedy to Rashbi and to Lag B'Omer — his day of joy — specifically in the matter of being blessed with children. At the heart of this topic is a remarkable Midrash, where a childless couple came to Rashbi for help. Rather than simply offering a blessing, Rashbi gave them a creative and original piece of advice that completely transformed their fate and ultimately blessed them with many children. What makes this lesson truly powerful is that Rashbi's advice was far more than a remedy for childlessness. Hidden within it is a deep and revolutionary understanding of what it means to build a healthy marriage, a practical path to strengthening the relationship between husband and wife, and a complete vision of what a true Jewish home looks like. The miracle of Rashbi was not magic — it was wisdom, addressing the very root of the couple's situation and showing how a marriage must be built and nurtured in order to truly flourish.

So intent is he on spreading his message of acceptance and brotherhood through rap and hip hop music, that he performs under the name Hebro, a Fulcher-ism that declares his intent to use his artistic abilities to better the world as he serves in the ranks of God's military. The youngest of six children born to African-American parents who converted to Judaism 43 years ago under the guidance of Rabbi J.J. Hecht, the then-assistant to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Fulcher hails from a family of gifted vocalists. The singer, songwriter, rapper and producer lived in Crown Heights until he was four and spent his formative years in North Carolina, St. Louis and Israel. It was during his time as a student at Queens College that Fulcher, whose full name is Raphael Ohr Chayim, discovered his gift for singing publicly. “I was on the board at Chabad of Queens College and we staged musical events. I found that I had a deep passion for live performance,” Fulcher told The Jewish Link. After spending a Lag B'omer at the Chevra Ahavas Yisroel synagogue, Fulcher found himself falling in love with Crown Heights and he spent the next five years there, enjoying the unique warmth of the community and honing his musical voice. Deeply enamored with rap, hip hop, reggae and R&B music, Fulcher decided that the time had come to bring those genres to Jewish audiences, albeit with all new lyrics. “Just the music and the rhythm are very powerful and could resonate with a lot of people if we had positive, uplifting content,” said Fulcher, who previously performed under the name Hebro. “I kept imagining how powerful it would be if I added a real element that would allow listeners to vibe out to the rhythm, with lyrics that have meaning and purpose. I don't think you can deny that it is Jewish music.” Having stretched his musical wings on stage with Matisyahu, Nissim Black, Moshav Band, Lipa Schmeltzer, Zusha and others, Fulcher decided three years ago that it was time to share his God given gifts with the world in a debut EP titled Genesis. “It is an album that is inspired by Tehillim, by King David's work,” said Fulcher. “When I imagine David Hamelech performing during his life, I imagine that his music had rhythm and spirit and with all due respect, I don't think it sounded like the typical 'Jewish' music we hear today in the orthodox world” Genesis, featuring seven original compositions, will be released on March 17th, Rosh Chodesh Nissan. Fulcher is looking forward to sharing his music at a release party taking place at The Loft and Rooftop at 83 Essex Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side of Manhattan which will also feature up and coming talents Izzy Gilden, DJ Kamilly, Simple Man and others. His soon to be released Souljass music video, featuring one of the tracks on the EP, tells the story of Cain and Hevel, which Fulcher sees as the start of baseless hatred in the world. “I want to shed light on being fearful of what we don't control or understand,” said Fulcher. “There is a message there in Cain's conversation with Hashem, when he says he doesn't know where his brother is. If we focused on the other person, if we were conscious of one another, and were tolerant of each other, we would be able to bring about the ultimate redemption.” Still, Fulcher, a resident of the Wesley Hills section of Monsey, is subtle with his messaging. “I consider myself a chasid of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and his teachings and his mission,” said Fulcher. “That is what I wanted to do with this album of songs about redemption and while I may not mention that concept by name, it is there in broader terms and in a way that will allow more people to enjoy the music.” With an edgy style that is simultaneously youthful and appealing, Fulcher is a crossover artist who can appeal to the masses, but also has his priorities straight. Passionate about his music, he is even more dedicated to his religious observance. As someone with close ties to Chabad, Fulcher feels strongly about his own obligation to improve the lives of others. “My ultimate mission with my music is to do my part to bring redemption,” explained Fulcher. “I consider this to be my shlichut and I believe each of us has to bring the world to a higher state of perfection by doing chesed, by reaching out and not just harboring light, but shining light out onto the world.” Having been the only African-American student in the yeshivos he attended since first grade wasn't always easy, admitted Fulcher, but it was an experience that prepared him for his future. “It was challenging for myself and for my peers,” said Fulcher. “It was a reality that none of them had ever dealt with before and it was new for them. Still, growing up as an African-American Jew in a white Orthodox Jewish world gave me the experience to understand the potential of breaking down the barriers of fear and difference while creating an opportunity for growth. B'nei Yisrael come in all shapes and colors and sizes and the sooner we can all handle that the sooner we will all be b'simcha.”

Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics:What is the connection between this Omer period, Lag B'Omer and the weekly Torah portion? Revealing the hidden and deeper good even in negative experiences What is the central theme of this week's Torah chapter? Is Judaism rigid or flexible? Static or dynamic? What personal and global lessons does it offer us for our times? Why are some blessings so great that they have to be hidden within curses?   Is it appropriate to get an aliya when they read the tochacho? Why did the Mitteler Rebbe not learn from the Alter Rebbe's previous readings that the curses are actually blessings? Can we say that the only reason we are still in golus is due to the pleasure Hashem gets from our effort to overcome the darkness and the challenges it presents? What is the difference between Lag B'Omer and Yud Tes Kislev? Should Israel be relying on America for protection? What can we learn from Rashbi's criticizing the Roman government? Why does Lag B'omer, the Mattan Torah of the Inner Torah, precede Shavuos? Is the Zohar the source of Chassidus? Why did Rabbi Akiva's students stop dying? Why are we allowed to sing during the days of Sefirah? What is the difference between sefiros and partzufim? What is the personal application of Yesod?  Is this week a good time to receive blessings to conceive healthy children? Can you share a few stories about his relationship with the Rebbe?

Lag B'Omer isn't just a day for bonfires and bow-and-arrows. It's the Hilula—the joyous “wedding day”—of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the mystic who gave us the Zohar and opened the gates of Jewish spiritual consciousness. But why a wedding on the day of someone's passing? This class explores the paradox at the heart of both life and love: how our greatest limitations can be our most profound doorways to infinity. We'll explore Talmudic, Kabbalistic, and Chassidic sources—from the soul-body dynamic, to the power of mitzvot, to why life is likened to a wedding. You'll discover how the soul's “marriage” to the body mirrors our own sacred relationships and how Lag B'Omer invites us to celebrate the holiness hidden in the now.3 Takeaways:Life is a Wedding, Not a Waiting Room Rabbi Shimon taught us to stop postponing joy. Every mitzvah, every act of love, is a divine moment worth celebrating now—not later.Paradox is the Pathway to Eternity Through the union of opposites—soul and body, heaven and earth, law and love—we don't diminish ourselves. We become eternal.Kabbalah Illuminates the Ordinary Lag B'Omer marks the unveiling of the soul of Torah, where every halachah becomes a mystical spark and every moment a gateway to the Infinite#lagbaomer #zohar #Kabbalah #mysticism #Jewish #chassidic #chassidus #chabad #Hillula #soul #meaningoflife #meaning #JewishSpirituality #soul Support the showGot your own question for Rabbi Bernath? Rabbi Jacobson will discuss the following topics:What lessons can we learn from 13 Iyar, the 73rd yahrzeit of Reb Yisroel Aryeh Leib a”h  What does his name and life teach us? What did the Rebbe say after he stood up from shiva for his brother in 1952? How do we deal with setbacks and difficulties? How do we personalize this day? Is there a connection between the 13 and 14th of Iyar? Why do we celebrate on the day Rashbi passed away? What is the connection between Rashbi and joy? What do we learn from Rashbi and Lag B'omer? What impact does the inner dimension of Torah have on our lives? What is the significance of counting the Omer? How do we apply to our lives the fact that the Omer counting begins after the barley offering? What different meanings are there in the word sefira? Why do we refine our emotions during these days? Why not focus on cognitive emotions? After counting the Omer why do we recite psalm 67 about the conductor of songs? Why do we not make a blessing after we missed one day of counting? Do we get a special reward for counting all 49 days? Why do we not schedule weddings and listen to music during the days of the Omer? Why does Chabad (and others) resume the customs of mourning after Lag B'Omer? How is it possible that Rabbi Akiva's students did not show respect to each other? Why did Rabbi Akiva not stop their behavior? What lessons can we learn from this in dealing with conflicts today? Why is there a custom to study the tractate of Sotah during these days? What is the meaning of “l'hazhir ha'gdolim al ha'ktanim”? What relevance does the service of the priests have to most of us who are not kohanim? Why can a Kohen with physical deformities not serve in the temple?
