For some who had been following The Fall since 'Live At The Witch Trials' and 'Dragnet', 1988's 'The Frenz Experiment' with its more polished and slightly commercial sound might have seemed to be a bit of a sellout. Not so for this week's guest, Manchester record shop co-owner and bass player (The Suncharms) Richard Farnell. Catching them live at a record shop in-store appearance while playing hooky during a school trip into London may have sealed the deal for him, but he contends there's more to this era of The Fall than the unlikely chart success of their covers of 'Victoria' and 'There's A Ghost In My House' might attest. Songs discussed in this episode: There's A Ghost In My House - The Fall; Time Will Tell - The Suncharms; Mr Pharmacist, Totally Wired, Rebellious Jukebox, Fol De Rol, Frenz, Carry Bag Man, Get A Hotel - The Fall; Victoria - The Kinks; All Day and All of the Night - The Stranglers; Victoria - The Fall; Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight - Spinal Tap; Athlete Cured, In These Times, The Steak Place, Bremen Nacht, Guest Informant, Oswald Defence Lawyer - The Fall; Distant Lights - The Suncharms

__________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Let It Bleed" sprechen wir im Podcast (12:27) – "Gimme Shelter"(28:53) – "Country Honk"(35:15) – "Live With Me"(39:55) – "Monkey Man"(46:02) – "Midnight Rambler"(53:04) – "You Can't Always Get What You Want"__________ Alle Shownotes und weiterführenden Links zur Folge "Let It Bleed" findet ihr hier: https://www.swr.de/swr1/rp/meilensteine/the-rolling-stones-let-it-bleed-100.html __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? When musician ARTHUR RUSSELL died in 1992, at age 40, of complications related to HIV-AIDS, he was an obscure figure — though a legend in the 70s and 80s underground music scenes at downtown New York clubs such as The Loft and Paradise Garage. RICHARD KING, author of 'Travels Over Feeling'(Faber) a poignant and evocative visual chronology of Arthur's life and times, came to the the Bureau to tell us about him and why he matters. Despite his prodigious output, his inability to finish songs, and the genre-busting uniqueness of much of his music, meant that he released only two albums under his own name in his lifetime. But in the decades since his death, a series of posthumous releases have generated a deep love and admiration in many who have been lucky to come across his music. We also get into indie record shop culture, music sobbery, the underground New York club scene of the mid seventies and ask the question: 'How do you know when, a song, a book or a piece of art is finished?' Thanks to Dan Papps at Faber, to Steve Knutson of Audika Records and Cat Corrigan of Beggars Banquet who have posthumously released much of Arthur's unpublished work, for permission to include his music. Send us a Text Message. It's not unusual for bands to change their sound or style as they move through their career. We take a look at bands that changed their sound, or started a completely new sound for a whole lot of reasons - from The Beatles, Bowie and Dylan and Black Sabbath through to Japan, The Cure and Split Enz. Our album you must hear before you die is Let it Bleed by The Rolling Stones. From the cover art to the great music it contains, this album from The Stones' golden period leading into the 70's - Sticky Fingers & Exile on Main Street - is a corker! "Los niños no se tocan y quienes osen tocarlos están condenados de antemano". 8 MILLONES DE NIÑOS DESAPARECEN CADA AÑO EN EL MUNDO: https://www.elsoldemexico.com.mx/mundo/8-millones-de-ni%C3%B1os-desaparecen-cada-a%C3%B1o-en-el-mundo-175389.html RYAN GARCÍA SIGUE DANDO QUE HABLAR – DENUNCIA ABUSO INFANTIL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urbDp4vAyps ÚLTIMO VIDEO DE RYAN GARCÍA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5Z0ZbIuEnY TIM TEBOW PIDE AL CONGRESO ATACAR EL ABUSO INFANTIL: https://es.theepochtimes.com/exjugador-nfl-tim-tebow-congreso-explotacion-sexual-infantil-1249509.html ABUSO SEXUAL INFANTIL - ¿QUÉ ES EL MOVIMIENTO MAP?: https://www.asociacionrea.org/abuso-sexual-infantil-que-es-el-movimiento-map/ ENTREVISTA COTO MATAMOROS – EL NICHO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndhq4eTzZhs INFORME FLYNN: https://www.diariodesevilla.es/sociedad/efecto-Flynn-tontos_0_1376562531.html JESÚS ES LUCIFER – JORDAN MASWELL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iOxiteCups TESTIGO DE RED DE EUROPEA DE ABUSO SEXUAL A MENORES: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Prd_xaw-sAA EL ACTOR COREY FELDMAN RECIBE AMENAZAS DE MUERTE – ABUSO INFANTIL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKWhBIq3ldk COREY FELDMAN ACUSA A CHARLIE SHEEN DE ABUSO SEXUAL EN SU DOCUMENTAL: https://www.lanacion.com.ar/espectaculos/personajes/corey-feldman-estreno-documental-acusa-charlie-sheen-nid2341832/ COREY FELDMAN TEME POR SU VIDA DEBIDO A SU DOCUMENTAL SOBRE LA PEDOFILIA EN HOLLYWOOD: https://www.tomatazos.com/noticias/416088/Corey-Feldman-teme-por-su-vida-debido-a-su-documental-sobre-la-pedofilia-en-Hollywood SE ESTRENÓ EL DOCUMENTAL EN EL QUE COREY FELDMAN ACUSA A CHARLIE SHEEN DE VIOLAR A COREY HAIM CUANDO TENÍA 13 AÑOS: https://www.infobae.com/america/entretenimiento/2020/03/11/se-estreno-el-documental-en-el-que-corey-feldman-acusa-a-charlie-sheen-de-violar-a-corey-haim-cuando-tenia-13-anos/ MY TRUTH – THE RAPE OF TWO COREYS (DOCUMENTAL COREY FELDMAN): https://www.bitchute.com/video/DQineLmZGBkm/ UN SECRETO A VOCES – PEDOFILIA EN HOLLYWOOD (DOCUMENTAL): https://archive.org/details/UnSecretoAVocesPedofiliaHollywood2017DocumentalSubt.Esp DEMI MOORE BESA APASIONADAMENTE A UN NIÑO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgo4XqRH6eI POLÉMICO VIDEO DE DEMI MOORE BESANDO A UN MENOR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=km-YlY89PQ4 UN VIDEO MUESTRA AL DALAI LAMA BESANDO EN LA BOCA A UN NIÑO: https://www.publico.es/internacional/video-muestra-dalai-lama-besando-boca-nino.html LA FISCALÍA DE MÚNICH YA INVESTIGA LAS DENUNCIAS DE PEDOFILIA DENTRO DE LA IGLESIA CATÓLICA ALEMANA: https://www.ambito.com/informacion-general/iglesia/la-fiscalia-munich-ya-investiga-las-denuncias-pedofilia-dentro-la-catolica-alemana-n5355724 PEDERASTIA CLERICAL - 223 NUEVOS TESTIMONIOS DE VÍCTIMAS DE ABUSOS EN LA IGLESIA REGISTRADOS POR EL DEFENSOR DEL PUEBLO: https://www.europapress.es/sociedad/noticia-defensor-registra-223-nuevos-testimonios-victimas-abusos-iglesia-da-validos-129-20240523112052.html MÁS DE 400.000 ESPAÑOLES HABRÍAN SIDO VÍCTIMAS DE LA PEDERASTIA EN LA IGLESIA SEGÚN EL DEFENSOR DEL PUEBLO: https://www.lasexta.com/noticias/sociedad/investigacion-defensor-pueblo-cifra-440000-victimas-pederastia-iglesia-catolica_20231027653b9e38e8e7a500015aa3ed.html EL TALMUD - EL LIBRO "SAGRADO" JUDÍO QUE PROMUEVE LA PEDOFILIA: https://www.mentealternativa.com/el-talmud-un-libro-sagrado-judio-que-promueve-la-pedofilia-el-odio-y-el-rencor-contra-los-hombres/ POLÉMICA POR UN CARTEL DE UNA CAMPAÑA EN ALMERÍA CONTRA LAS AGRESIONES SEXUALES A MENORES: https://www.elconfidencial.com/espana/andalucia/2024-05-15/polemica-cartel-campana-almeria-agresiones-sexuales-menores_3884143/ EL GOBIERNO DE ALEMANIA REBAJA LAS PENAS POR PEDOFILIA - LA POSESIÓN DE PORNOGRAFÍA INFANTIL PASA DE DELITO GRAVE A LEVE: https://gaceta.es/europa/alemania-rebaja-las-penas-por-pedofilia-20240524-0300/ EL LADO SÓRDIDO DE TAILANDIA - TRATA Y PROSTITUCIÓN INFANTIL: https://elcomercio.pe/mundo/actualidad/lado-sordido-tailandia-trata-prostitucion-infantil-194759-noticia/ PELÍCULAS RECOMENDADAS: Sound of Freedom - 2023 La bala de Dios - 2023 Ambas basadas en hechos reales. On this episode we tackle the Rolling Stones 1968 LP Beggars Banquet. 1968 was a tumultuous year for much of the world and a transitional time for the Rolling Stones. Their founder and original leader, Brian Jones, was increasingly absent due to his drug use, and their long-time manager/producer Andrew Loog Oldham had grown disinterested in the band due to his own drug and alcohol use, leaving them to produce their next album on their own. The result, 1967's Their Satanic Majesties Request, was widely considered a misstep for the band and the Stones were looking for a fresh start. They found it with producer Jimmy Miller, who helped the Stones get back to their roots, and found ways to inspire the band to create what most believe to be the first album of their classic period, showcasing acoustic blues and hard-hitting social commentary. While not without its controversies, Beggars Banquet does contain some of the most compelling music this classic band has ever made. Visit us at www.tappingvinyl.com.
They say if you listen to this podcast you might go blind. But if you can't stop messin' with the danger zone then welcome to the best podcast about Cyndi Lauper and the 184th greatest album of all time, She's So Unusual. But before we get to the music your four favorite therapeutic tools provide some curmudgeonly commentary on adult pick-up basketball, thermostat control, and bar hopping in Ft. Lauderdale on spring break. We also go the distance on polyamorous opportunities, bumping and grinding, and other glorious topics. Then at (1:06:00) we bop with the original quirky singer, Cyndi Lauper, and her debut studio album She's So Unusual. We discuss Cyndi Lauper's place in 80's pop culture, the Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection, and the best songs featuring the melodica. Next week we have no expectations that we will become the best Rolling Stones podcast when we cover their 1968 roots rock album, Beggars Banquet.
Bill German launched "Beggars Banquet" in 1978, a fanzine dedicated to the Stones. Within a few years, it evolved into the Stones' official fan club newsletter, connecting with fans worldwide. Next thing you know, Bill's sipping orange juice at Mick Jagger's, partying with Keith, and sharing bananas at Ronnie Wood's. Explore his incredible journey in the must-read book, "Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with the Rolling Stones (and Lived to Tell About It)." Essential for any Stones fan, and Bill's chat on this episode adds an extra layer of fun—tune in and enjoy!
In which The Curmudgeons explore the dichotomous year that followed 1967's Summer of Love trippiness. The previous year's highs represent a peak creative burst. Well, where to go next? That's where the era's most storied artists diverged. On the one hand, you had bands that went bigger and bolder--The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead fall into this category. On the other hand, you had a yearning to return to the simpler roots of rock 'n' roll, and a rush toward softer, warmer hues by The Byrds, The Band, The Kinks and others ensued. We explore both paths in depth and with panache. Auf ihrem Album "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" sind zwar keine großen Hits, dafür umso mehr spannende Kompositionen. The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" is the most successful flop of all time." Es geht zurück aufs Dorf in "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society". __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society" wird im Podcast gesprochen (03:52) – "Animal Farm"(04:29) – "Sitting by the Riverside"(20:30) – "Village Green"(26:40) – "The Village Green Preservation Society"(30:27) – "Monica"(34:21) – "Wicked Annabella"(37:34) – "Walter"(42:43) – "Picture Book" __________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen (01:32) – "You Really Got Me" von The Kinks(01:39) – "Sunny Afternoon" von The Kinks(18:50) – "Penny Lane" von The Beatles(45:23) – "Warning" von Green Day(45:55) – "Don't Look Back in Anger" von Oasis __________ Shownotes Doku zu The Kinks – "The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-ragx6CtTI Auftrittsverbot in den USA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oup7NCcfb10 YouTube-Channel von The Kinks: https://www.youtube.com/@TheKinksMusic __________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? What's crackin', y'all? If you read these on the reg', thank you. I appreciate you.You might know that I'm prone to screw things up from time to time when a) interviewing, b) recording, c) producing, and d) all of the above.Nothin' sweeter than doing it on consecutive episodes, though.Yep.I goofed. Again. And as a result, the guest video comes in late. So...my apologies to Will Moulthrop, my partner in crime for Episode No. 91.Should only take me about 10 dozen more of these to devise a foolproof approach.Nevertheless...many thanks to Will for coming over stranger-style and chewing the New Jersey fat with me for a minute. We talked about growing up in and around recorded and live music on the east coast, and how that helped shape Will into the fine fellow and father that he is today. We also discussed a few of Will's favorite records, and they were all Rolling Stones albums. We touched on them in this order:Beggars Banquet (1968)Let It Bleed (1969)Sticky Fingers (1971)Exile on Main Street (1972)It was a pleasure to meet Will and educational to learn about his story, which you can have a peek into over on the 'Gram.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this podcast episode. In this very special episode, Tim is joined by his Absolute Radio colleague, Danielle Perry, as she takes over the interviewing duties to go through The Charlatans' Tellin' Stories. Tim opens up about how the Charlatans overcame the trauma of losing keyboard player, Rob Collins, to make one of the stand out albums of the 90s. Tellin' Stories was released on 21st April 1997 on Beggars Banquet.

From August 3, 2020: Dave Mason and friends have taken the downtime during quarantine to remake one of Mason's most iconic and heavily covered songs since its release in 1968 - "Feelin' Alright." Dubbed "Dave Mason and the Quarantines," the group's new song features Mason singing along with Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar, Michael McDonald, and The Doobie Brothers: John McFee, Tom Johnston, John Cowan, and Pat Simmons. Dave's longtime drummer, Alvino Bennett, also lends a hand as does Pat Simmons Jr., Pat's son, joining in the fun.ABOUT DAVE MASONRock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason's career spans over half a century and encompasses producing, performing and song writing. Fans and critics alike hail Dave as one of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the world - which is why he is still performing over 100 shows a year to sold-out crowds. Mason has been playing guitar most of his life. By 15, Dave had founded two bands: The Deep Feeling and The Hellions. At 18, the Worcester, England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright". The rock anthem, first recorded by Traffic and then covered by dozens of other artists (including Joe Cocker), cemented both Dave's and Traffic's legacy and had a profound influence over rock music that continues today.Mason left Traffic in 1969 to pursue a solo career in the US. Dave has penned over 100 songs, has 3 gold albums: Alone Together, Dave Masonand Mariposa De Oro and a platinum album Let it Flow, which contained the top-ten single "We Just Disagree".In addition to cranking out hits, Dave has performed on or contributed to a number of famous albums, including: The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney and Wings Venus and Mars and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. Mason is featured playing acoustic guitar in "All Along the Watchtower" on Electric Ladyland, a favorite in Dave's live shows!Dave, a prolific artist in his own right, has collaborated with an enviable list of the who's who in the music industry. Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, Ron Wood, Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, and Jim Capaldi, just to name a few. In addition to his own productions, Mason's distinctive work is featured on numerous gold and platinum albums such as:Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland "All Along The Watchtower" (acoustic guitar) and "Crosstown Traffic" (vocals)George Harrison All Thing Must Pass (various tracks)The Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet "Street Fighting Man" (shehnai and mellotron)Paul McCartney and Wings Venus And Mars "Listen To What The Man Said" (guitar)Graham Nash Songs For BeginnersDavid Crosby & Graham Nash, Graham Nash David CrosbyDave Mason & Cass Elliot (Mamas & Papas) Dave Mason & Cass ElliotThe Spencer Davis Group "Somebody Help Me", "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm A Man" (vocals)Fleetwood Mac Time(guitar, vocals)Eric Clapton Crossroads (guitar)When Dave is not touring, he spends his time writing and producing music in his home studio, as well as tirelessly supporting philanthropic efforts for Rock Our Vets, a non-profit he co-founded.

Hello Friends! The time has come for the first part in a sub-series for Mixology on a topic I've been wanting to cover for a while - fold-downs. Specifically, albums that originally had a stereo and a mono issue (usually as a promo) that was created primarily using the Stereo mix as the source. Today, we'll be taking a look at 3 fantastic LPs from 1968 - Birthday by The Association, Take a a Picture by Margo Guryan, and Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones. Do these albums benefit from the fold down treatment? What makes them unique compared to their Stereo source counterparts? And above all - are these worth seeking out, or should you just stick with the pure Stereo source? It's time to start breaking down the myths around these mixes, and evaluating the results. And I can assure you - there's plenty more where these came from! Happy Listening, Frederick Patreon Email Instagram Back to Mono

In this episode we welcome the exemplary Fred Goodman and ask him about his journalistic career and highly acclaimed books. Fred talks about his early years as a jazz columnist for Cash Box, as well as his interest in the business side of popular music. He describes how a stint as a Senior Editor at Rolling Stone led to the idea of a book about "the head-on collision of rock and commerce", subsequently published as 1997's The Mansion on the Hill. Avid fans of that classic tome, Mark and Barney ask their guest about legendary figures such as Albert Grossman, David Geffen and Jon Landau, after which Fred explains why – in an effort to champion the late Mexican-American singer in her native USA – he wrote 2019's Why Lhasa de Sela Matters. Moving on to Fred's latest book Rock On Film, conversation turns to some of his favourite music movies from A Hard Day's Night to This is Spinal Tap with a nod to Michael Lindsay-Hogg who wrote the foreword to Rock On Film. Clips from an audio interview with the late D.A. Pennebaker lead in turn to a discussion of 1967's Bob Dylan documentary Dont Look Back. Not long after we've paid tribute to Television's mercurial Tom Verlaine, breaking news comes in that we've also just lost the great Burt Bacharach. Putting ourselves on the spot in real time, we talk about the genius who (with lyricist Hal David) created masterworks from 'Make it Easy on Yourself' to 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head'. Finally, Mark talks us out with quotes from pieces about folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, the Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet and the late David Crosby, while Jasper concludes the episode with remarks about pieces on Keane and pop's relationship with social class. Many thanks to special guest Fred Goodman. Rock on Film is published by Running Press and Why Lhasa De Sela Matters is published by University of Texas Press. Pieces discussed: The Mansion on the Hill, Rock and Roll on Film, Richard Lester audio, 25 Essential Music DVDs, The Harder They Come, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Spinal Tap, Metallica's Some Kind of Monster, D.A. Terminus has been, to some degree, derelict in its duty to promote Outlaw Rock this year. Hopefully today's episode ameliorates this deficiency with a grip of records all firmly within this rough and tumble style of black metal(?). For those unfamiliar with the term, Outlaw Rock is a concept formulated by Terminus for a distinct style of USBM with a range of pointedly American influences, from country to hardcore and all points between. In this case, we have two very different sides of the same coin: one creaking out ghostly whispers of the old west, and another which explodes in passionate psychedelic violence. A double-feature of Grave Pilgrim opens things up, with reviews of both last year's self-titled full length and this year's EP to provide better context. A mixture of KPN, Taake, and deep Americana makes for records which immediately hook the ear but feature surprising structural depth. The band's first record flamethrows the cave of Instagram black metal with deep, intricate riffing and the second iterates on these melodic concepts through flirtations with trad metal and desolate ambient. The only question: where do they go from here? Providing counterpoint is the debut Ink & Fire record, likely familiar to terminators as a new project from MK of Fin. MK's unique riffing style is firmly intact but simultaneously stripped down and overdriven into brief, fulminating tracks. Ink & Fire's vicious yet manically joyful attack is immediately ear-pleasing but clattering and overwhelming, merging the smearing drone of Blazebirth Hall with MK's agile leadwork. Music to be enjoyed under the influence of any drug that makes you fast. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:03:05 - Grave Pilgrim - Grave Pilgrim (Death Prayer Records, 2021) 0:54:17 - Grave Pilgrim - Molten Hands Reach West (Death Prayer Records) 1:20:01 - Interlude - Peste Noire - “Ballade cuntre les anemis de la France - de François Villon “ fr. Listen to Gobbledygeek and live forever. This week, in a stealth continuation of this year's Gobbledyween, Paul and Arlo head on down to New Orleans for Neil Jordan's 1994 adaptation of Anne Rice's classic Interview with the Vampire. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Antonio Banderas are the most beautiful men anyone could have cast as immortals in the mid-'90s, and they're joined by a prepubescent Kirsten Dunst to form a truly tragic coven. The boys discuss the evil joyfulness of Cruise's Lestat, why the role of Louis de Pointe du Lac does not play to Pitt's strengths, how amazing it is that the film's overt homoeroticism made it to the screen, and much more. Barry and Abigail discuss Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes and sample Nefarious Nebulas, Norwegian Wizard Crisis, I Ain't Afraid of No Roast, Sourmanjaro, and The Desert Spoon from Deviant Wolfe Brewing in Sanford, Florida. This album reminds Barry of 70s Rolling Stones albums such as Exile on Main Street (you might know Happy), Beggars Banquet, and Let It Bleed, as well as the single Bitch. Barry introduced Abigail to a new genre term, roadhouse blues, encapsulated by The Doors' song Roadhouse Blues. The Black Crowes originated as Mr. Crowe's Garden, a name based on Johnny Crow's Garden, a children's book written and illustrated by Leonard Leslie Brooke. Ageusia is the loss of the sense of taste. Thick N' Thin has some piano elements that remind Barry of Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis. Read about sotol. Up next… Make Yourself by Incubus, submitted to our Virtual Jukebox by Derek Hummel, Sr. Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe. Bill German, for many years wrote, researched and published his "fanzine" Beggars Banquet about the Rolling Stones. It led him to hang out with members of the band for over 17 years. He was invited to parties with Keith and Woody, went on tour with the band and so much more. He wrote a book a few years ago which has just been updated for the 60th anniversary of the Rolling Stones. The new version incluides updated information including an interview that Bill did with original band member: Ian Stewart. The book is titled: "Under Their Thumb - How A Nice Boy From Brooklyn Got Mixed Up With The Rolling Stones.
