BONDED TO GOD'S JOY We have discussed being bonded to God's love in our mind and in our heart, and last week I shared about being bonded to his peace in times of adversity. God also bonds us to his joy - not just the joy of having everything going right but getting his joy of overcoming things going wrong. We get God's own joy that he feels when he sees fear and dread and darkness being overcome in our lives. This is God's shout of triumph that resonates in our spirit and our soul as we triumph over these things by his grace. This is the point where there is an inner turnaround and new joyful motivation is found to continue conquering and to conquer and reinforcing our motivation to take on new challenges. Knowing God's love draws us to him, knowing his peace settles us in agreement with him, but knowing God's joy takes us beyond being drawn to his love and settled in his peace. Knowing God's joy makes us move forward confidently in his strength as part of his victory over evil in the world. We were not created to cope with these pressures in our own strength, so the only complete answer is the spiritual joy of God. As David said the joy of the Lord is my strength. Zechariah prophesies of the last days in chapter nine about God blowing the trumpet for battle and being seen over his people. In chapter ten Zecharia says And he will make them as His majestic horse in the battle. (Zechariah 10:3). A powerful picture of this majestic battle horse is seen in the book of Job Chapter 39:19. Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder? Can you frighten him like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror. He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; He gallops into the clash of arms. He mocks at fear and is not frightened; Nor does he turn back from the sword. The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin. He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded. At the blast of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha!' and he smells the battle from afar, hearing the thunder of captains and shouting. We see the same picture of the joy and enthusiasm of the end time Church as Jesus begins riding on a white horse, conquering and to conquer in the book of Revelation Chapter 6. The background to that is that after the Messenger who speaks to John in Revelation Chapter 3 has given John the letters to the seven churches in that region, he makes this prophetic statement in the next chapter. Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will show you things which must be hereafter. That means that everything that is spoken to John from that point on (90 AD) is prophetic for the future of the world in the purposes of God. In Chapter 5 these future events are revealed as the seven seals that only Jesus is worthy to open and as each seal is opened it continues to come to its fullest expression of worldwide, not just local, end time events until Jesus returns and the New Heavens and new earth come into being. The first four seals are referred to as ‘The four horsemen of the apocalypse'. And these four horsemen speak of present and future worldwide events That first horseman is on a white horse, which speaks of the worldwide Reformation in 1517 of the Church being reformed from dead works into faith and from doing penance into finding repentance at the time of the reformation. Reading on in Revelation… Revelations 6:2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. This is seen as a symbol of God's joyful and enthusiastic strength in the battle of his people over the forces of evil. We see Jeus here wearing the crown of authority as head over his Church and with a bow in his hand. Judah, you are my bow! Ephraim, you are my arrow! Both of you will be my sword, like the sword of a mighty soldier brandished against my enemies. (Zechariah 9:13). His bow sends us out as his warriors and from the time this battle horse started riding it will continue until is seen as that same white horse at the return of Jesus coming with his saints. Revelation 19.11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. King David was a man of battle and had to learn the lesson that it was only by trusting in the Lord who was mighty in battle that he would defeat his enemies. That is why David said The joy of the Lord is my strength. David prayed desperately to God about how his enemies had surrounded him - For I am desolate and afflicted. Bring me out of my distresses! Consider my enemies, for they are many. God hears his prayer and then David says Therefore I will offer shouts of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD and now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Psalm. 27 This joy became an active principle of strength for David, and it can become an active principle for our lives also. We can reverse the flow of our life from our helplessness to our faith in God's overcoming strength. It was not God's original plan for us to be on the defensive when it comes to overcoming darkness, but to be on the attack. (2 Cor. 10:4, Eph. 6:12). Constant defensive behaviours cause people to become emotionally fatigued and depressed and robbed of their joy. Even our body has a part to play in this reversal. When we get emotionally fatigued and depressed and in a downward spiral a hormone called cortisol floods our system causing more stress. But there is another hormone that counters that called dopamine – the joy and enthusiasm hormone which the brain produces and which motivates enthusiasm and achievement - and its even packaged expensively as a recreational drug in the street marketplace. It was once thought that dopamine was produced in the brain because of the motivation for achievement of a goal. It has now been found that it actually gets released not for a goal to be achieved but for a challenge to be met and overcome. It puts us on our front foot to stir ourselves into action and to overcome difficulties and challenges. So even our body helps our spirit and our soul when we enthusiastically praise God as the Captain of the host. It is what causes the battle horse to sniff the battle and say ‘aha'. We can be transformed from people who avoid life's pressures to those who rejoice and overcome life's challenges by faith in his strength and not in our own strength. And the Bible says that Jesus will sing and will rejoice over us with joy (Zephania 3)- that is his reaction when he sees us wanting to join with him in what he is doing, sharing his joy and exuberance, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross and despised the shame (Hebrews 12) The scriptural theme of joy as a source of strength is echoed throughout the Bible, as seen in the life of King David and all through the New Testament. It is God's joy in us that empowers us to face life's battles with unwavering faith, and when we embrace this divine joy, we harness a powerful force that enables us to rise above our struggles and serve others with a heart full of encouragement and compassion. Paul, in his letters to the Corinthians and Ephesians, underscores the importance of spiritual warfare and the need to be proactive rather than reactive in our battle against darkness. He reminds us that our spiritual weapons are mighty through God for pulling down spiritual strongholds that darkness tries to establish in our minds (2 Cor. 10:4). And he encourages us to stand against the strategies of the devil (Eph. 6:12). In essence, by trusting in God's joy and strength, we can transform our lives from a state of helplessness to one of victorious faith, always ready to meet challenges head-on and overcome them for the glory of God. This profound truth is a testament to the fact that when we are filled with God's joy, we are equipped to fulfill our divine purpose and extend His love to the world. Jesus is teaching us here that God's joy in us is the greatest inspiration to serve and to care for others. God sets this joy before us and knows that when we accept it we get his strength and his endurance to take on the most difficult and challenging tasks.
Pastor Scott Engebretson during the Holy Week looks at some of the last words Jesus says to his disciples before the cross. Today we look at John 12 and look at the purpose of Jesus coming to us was to draw as many to Him as possible.

We can choose whether we want to be part of the first, second, or third generation. However, there also is a fourth generation. The purpose of those who volunteer to be part of this fourth generation, is to rule over light and darkness and divide it. Looking at the number four in the Bible and the first four books in the Bible, the literal meaning of their titles are as follows – Genesis – in the beginning, Exodus – names, Leviticus – and he called (God called Moses into the tabernacle) and Numbers – in the wilderness, as well as counting (to count or to remember, appoint). Abraham, having been called by God to leave his life (die to it). crossed over a boundary into a new life and was thus the first person to be called a Hebrew. The next person who was called by this name was Joseph, the fourth generation from Abraham. Abraham was dwelling in tents, but God's promise to him indicated that the fourth generation from him would have that land as a permanent inheritance. Moses was also part of a fourth generation and because the enemy was aware of the prophetic word over the fourth generation, he started killing the babies born at the same time as Moses, trying to avoid this word's fulfillment. When Moses returned to Egypt to fulfil his mandate from God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and Pharaoh responded by making their lot even harder, they questioned Moses and developed a victim mentality by complaining and murmuring. The Hebrew word for murmur also means ‘to lodge for the night'. In essence it means, “we know that God wants to take us to the light, but we are comfortable here in the darkness, so let us remain here”. This murmuring attitude was as a result of having no ‘heart' relationship with God, but rather a self-centred one which cannot accept temporary imperfect circumstances, and does not understand God's heart, purposes, and counsel. The nation of Israel could not attain their inheritance before all those who had murmured against God because they failed to understand His purpose with them, had died. Let us not focus on our problems and trials, but rather on Jeus and God's plans and purposes for this earth, prophesying that into being. We should seek God's counsel to know what these purposes are and resist the temptation to murmur when our circumstances are not ideal. No matter what challenges we face, let us be the fourth generation, not giving way to a victim mentality and, dividing between light and dark, rule in every circumstance.

Your Faith Journey - Finding God Through Words, Song and Praise
Many of us have been through exit interviews. They are about how learning about how we were received. I wonder if we would ever consider asking the question, “Who do people say that I am? In other words how would people describe me. We would have to be ready for anything depending on what had occurred during our time of employment. There are a great number of unknowns when we ask the question. The experiences that people have had in their lives will have an influence on their answer. If we tend to be a person who asks a lot of questions, this can stimulate people's thinking or make people feel uncomfortable. I am a person who asks a fair amount of questions. It is important for me to understand where people are coming from and to try and understand to the best of my ability what they mean. Depending upon where people are at in life, it may cause someone to be uncomfortable. Thus, we would need to be ready for any kind of answers. There is the key, to be ready. How many of us are even ready to ask the question, “Who do people say that I am”? Would we be ready to hear the answer? It is one way to check out a person's perception of us as sometimes we do not know. As followers of Jesus, it is important to know as we are called to let Jesus lives and shines through us. Jesus had been with his disciples for a while. He had been teaching them and demonstrating what it meant to follow him. Thus, to check out what they had been learning about who he was and why he was there, he asked the question, “Who do people say that I am? Some said John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; and still others one of the prophets. But then he asked them, but who do you say I am?, of course Peter had to answer the question. He often experienced nervous energy. Peter said, “You are the Messiah.” Jesus sternly told them not to tell anyone about him. Jesus knew Peter, let alone the other disciples, probably had no idea what this title, Messiah, really meant. He began to teach them about it. He said that the Son of Man would have to suffer a great deal, be rejected by the elders, chief priests and religious scholars, be put to death and rise again three days later. Jesus said this in a very matter of fact way. This is not what Peter wanted hear. Peter took Jesus aside and basically said, no this is not how this works. This is not what Peter had in mind for who the Messiah was to be. Most likely no one else had this in mind either. Peter may have thought that since he had followed Jesus for a while that he could take Jesus aside and straighten him out on how he was to be the Messiah. Jesus turned right to Peter and said get out of my sight, you satan! You are judging by human standards and not by God's! Peter touched quite a chord in Jesus and Jesus told him about it. Basically, that Peter was not getting it, and Peter did not really understand who Jesus was and what God's plan was for Jesus. Now Jesus called the crowd together and said, If you really want to follow me, you must deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow in my footsteps. If you would save your life, you'll lose it, but if you lose your life for my sake, you'll save it. This was quite radical. Jesus was definitely not describing the Messiah that Peter, and the other disciples were looking for. The Messiah was supposed to be a conqueror, a winner of land and people. He was not supposed to be dying and taking up a cross. The cross was the most cruel death there was and would involve much suffering. This was not their idea of a Messiah nor maybe one that they wanted to follow. Someone who dies and suffers, may not seem like a leader to some. A conqueror and a winner of land, people and ultimately power and control did not seem to be what Jesus was describing. I am seeing this same Messiah being sought after by people in our country today. This is what people have been seeking for many years. It is what people were asking God for. Jesus tried to reinterpret what God's kingdom was to look like. A kingdom that loved and was about what was best for the community according to God and not by human standards. So, getting back to Jesus question, to the disciples, which includes us, is “Who do you say that I am?, is even more difficult to answer. Jesus died for the sake of others, you and me, not himself. Of course, we cannot be the Messiah, there is only one, Jesus Christ. Yet, we are called to follow in his footsteps and allow Jesus to live and shine through us. How far are we willing to go to follow Jesus? Where do you think Jesus might be leading us today, right now? How many would say, right here in this building? What about after that? Jesus would be leading us right back into the world. We need to figure out where and what that looks like. It would be easy for us to think as Peter did and figure this out according to our standards. As human beings we often take the easiest way possible. Our way of thinking is of course based upon what is going on in our individual lives right now. But I believe Jesus was trying to tell Peter that to get to how we are to follow in Jesus footsteps means that we cannot be thinking in human terms. Some years ago, there was a program called “The church has left the building”. It meant that on a Sunday morning instead of meeting for worship in the building, the church, in reality, the people, went out into the world to serve by doing different projects. In a sense this is what “God's Work, Our Hands” can be. This is an event that the ELCA suggests to do on Rally Day. What do you think God would say if one Sunday out of the year we would not meet here for worship? We would go out or maybe even some in the building, to do projects for the sake of others. I believe we are called to go out and connect with our neighbor. This is following in the footsteps of Jesus. We come here to be strengthened so that we can take up our cross for the sake of others and follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Some of us might say that the Micro Food Pantry is how we serve our neighbor. That is true, but it does not directly connect us to our neighbor. The Caring Committee helps us find ways, as do the quilters, and the Parish House to meet the needs of our neighbors. Each one of these are ministries in which we meet our neighbor's needs, but it does not always directly connect us to our neighbor. If the church has left the building, the church being the people, you and me, then we are called to be out with our neighbor. Even though we are not the Messiah, we are who people see or don't see Jeus in. Following in the footsteps of Jesus is going out into the world and doing the work of Jesus. We carry our crosses for the sake of others. Jesus died for all of us and not himself. In our country today there are groups of Christians who view the kingdom differently then we do. They see the United States as only a Christian nation where all are not equal. Listen closely to messages coming from candidates. You will need to decide who has the message that will support God's kingdom as we have come to know it. One of love and forgiveness and not fear. One that sees all people equal in God's eyes. One that seems to want to use power and control to support the right for all people. This is what God's kingdom is to look like. Is this the kind of Jesus, the Messiah that people see in us? I want stress here it is not something that we do on our own. This is good news as our salvation is not based on our performance. It is only by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit that Jesus lives and shines through us. When Jesus asks the question today. “Who do you say that I am?” The answer will be found in how we follow in the footsteps of Jesus and going out into the world in the name of Jesus representing Faith Lutheran Church to our neighbors. This is where we will meet Jesus, the Messiah and people will see Jesus in us and the kingdom of God brought to earth. This is how the question will, Who do you say that I am will be answered. Questioning God, you challenge us today with the question, Who do we see that you are? Peter thought he understood who Jesus the Messiah was according to his way of thinking. You sent Jesus to try and model and teach what it means to follow you. May your Holy Spirit give us the wisdom to know how to live out your kingdom in the world today modeling for our neighbors who Jesus is. As a result of how we allow you to live and shine through our lives, the question will be answered, Who do we say that you are. In Jesus' name, Amen.
In the midst of so much upheaval in the world, negative news, so much noise and fear, it is easy to lose your peace and focus all that is going wrong around you. There are noises that begin to reach our heart, noises that take away our peace: the noise of illness, the noise of anxiety, of separation, bankruptcy, a family member who has died, the noise of fear of death and the future, of a diagnosis and the noise of the news. Those noises lead us to not listen to what God has told us. But, as we see from the story of Jesus calming a very big and dangerous storm that He and His disciples were facing in Mark 4:35-41, Jesus has already given you great promises and assures you that He is with you no matter what storms you personally are facing. Jesus had told the disciples they would cross over in a boat to the other side, but He hadn't told them there would be storms along the way. Yes Jesus's promises were still true, regardless of the storm facing them. We can learn, just as Jesus's first disciples had to, how to block out the noises that stop us always focussing on Jesus and living for Him and in His perfect peace. 1. Remember who Jesus is: The Son of God 2. Remember all that Jesus has done: He has healed you 3. Remember what Jesus can do: all that He promises He will do in your life Apply Jeus spoke to the storm the disciples were facing and brought a peace that totally surpassed all understanding. You can understand that in spite of the storms, Jesus is with you. Tell the Lord about the storms you are experiencing, but understand that in the midst of that storm Jesus is there. Understand that what Jesus did in the past, He will do again in this present storm. He has the power to speak to sickness and transform it into healing. He has the power to speak to the curse and transform it into blessing. Jesus has the power to speak to death and transform it into life. But you have to remember and declare that, despite the great storm you are facing, that Jesus has promised you will make it through. Believe that this storm is forming your character and taking you to a greater level of faith. Remember that you are not alone, you have the Lord, you have the church, you have the pastors, and you are going to get through to the other side. There is going to come a calm where you are going to experience miracles. Tell Jesus the storms that you are experiencing, e.g. family, personal, financial, emotional, sickness, pain, a child who has relapsed, etc. But understand that in spite of that storm, you are not alone. You have not been abandoned. Jesus the Son of God, the One who shed His blood seven times for you at the Cross of Calvary, is right there with you. From today, ask the Lord that you will no longer hear those noises, and that from today you will understand that Jesus is saying ‘I am with you and we will pass over to the other side'. Jesus has the power to calm and remove your storm and to silence all the noise. Declare that you will make it through the other side of your storm and that Jesus is with you and you will see a miracle. Thank the Lord that you will see His promises become a reality in your life.

The Holy Spirit is at work within us, freeing us progressively from sinful traits, developing in us a Christ-like character. The Holy Spirit is a minister to us. He bears witness with our spirits, assuring us that we are sons and heirs, co-heirs with Jesus Christ of God, after he had initially convicted us of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Holy Spirit witnesses to our spirits by giving us a taste of the fulness to come. The Holy Spirit was instrumental in the birth and ministry of Jesus and strengthened him to bear the cross. Even so, He will do the same things in us too. Not only did Jesus function under the power, anointing and by the ability of the Holy Spirit but after His resurrection God gave him the Spirit, making him both Lord and Christ, so that He could now pour the Spirit out on us. We receive life from the Spirit. God has anointed us with the Holy Spirit, sealed us and gave the Spirit as a down payment, a guarantee of our full redemption and the time is coming when even our bodies will be saved. This seal is the guarantee that we are genuine Christians, and it means that we are protected from destruction by the enemy. We can bring the powers of the age to come closer the more we walk in and with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit witnesses by making the Word of God in general a reality in our lives, thus proving that all the promises of our adoption are true. The Word and the Spirit are co-dependant unto the application of the Word in our lives to give us life. The Holy Spirit not only assures us of the fact that we are Sons of God, but also teaches us what that means. The Holy Spirit witnesses to us that Christ came by water and by blood. The water is the baptism of Jesus which did not take place because He had sin, but it was a foreshadow of our baptism, depicting our death, burial and being raised as sons. The blood of Jeus is that which He had shed to give us forgiveness of sins. The Holy Spirit is co-witnessing with the witness we already have in our hearts that we have life because we have the Son of God, making that sure and solid in our lives. The end result is then that we have a revelation and certainty of our intimate relationship with God and can say “abba, father” from deep within our spirits.

NOTES: “HOW CAN WE OVERWHELM WORRY?” Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4–7 (NIV) REJOICE - CELEBRATE GOD'S CONTROL. PRACTICAL TIP: CREATE A CONTROL LIST REQUESTS - PRAY, DON'T WORRY. PRACTICAL TIP: BREATH PRAYERS REFLECT - GIVE THANKS. PRACTICAL TIP: GRATITUDE JOURNAL BOTTOM LINE: When we give God our ANXIETY, He gives us His PEACE. CHALLENGE: REFOCUS - what do you need to do to refocus?
And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask him any more questions. Mark 12:34Finally, we have the witness of one of the religious leaders, a scribe, who got it right. The passage above is the conclusion of the interaction with this scribe who asks Jesus which of all the commandments is the first and greatest. Jesus gives the twofold answer that we are to love God above all, with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves. The scribe then responds to Jesus' answer by saying, “Well said, teacher. You are right…” And then Jesus compliments this scribe with the quoted passage above.Recall that almost all of the Pharisees were continually rebuked by Jesus because of their self-righteous arrogance. The Sadducees were also chastised but often to a lesser degree. And now we have a scribe who outshines them all. The scribes were primarily functionaries who copied or created various liturgical and legal documents. Some of the Pharisees were also scribes. And most of the time, when Jeus condemned the Pharisees, He also condemned the scribes. But this scribe is different. This scribe appears to not only be interested in Jesus' answer but also manifests “understanding” of what Jesus said to him. Don't underestimate the importance of this gift of understanding. In order to truly understand that which our Lord speaks to us, we must be open. And openness requires humility. Humility is a virtue that is contrary to a “know-it-all” attitude. It's a disposition of mind and heart that listens to God speak, hears what He says, comprehends all truth by the gift of grace, and prayerfully submits to that truth. Humility enables us to look beyond ourselves for the answers to the most difficult questions in life. It enables us to turn to the one and only source of truth, Jesus Christ Himself. And the fruit of this humble openness is the gift of understanding. It's an understanding of the mysteries of life which is beyond our natural intellectual capacity. The grace of God is able to teach and form the humble soul and fill it with clarity of vision and an acceptance of the deepest truths. Reflect, today, upon Jesus' words to this scribe. “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” Does Jesus also speak these words to you? Have you humbly sought out the answers to the many questions of life by turning to our Lord? More specifically, are you able to look at your life and rejoice in the fact that God has also given you His gift of understanding? If not, then look within and consider which questions you most need to bring to Jesus. Place them before Him and then listen, be open and be ready to respond when He speaks. Hearing and responding to our Lord will result in our Lord saying these same words to you. My Lord of all Truth, You look upon the humble souls with graciousness and mercy, and You reveal to them the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven. Please give me the gift of humility, dear Lord, so that I may always turn to You with every question in life. Fill me with the gift of understanding so that I may know how to love and serve You more faithfully each and every day. Jesus, I trust in You. I'm so glad you've joined me at the intersection of faith and true crime here at The Unlovely Truth. Security issues are hiding in every church - do you know where to look for them? I'm your host, church safety advocate Lori Morrison. Our churches need to be the safest places in our communities, so our mission here is to find actionable steps that will make our churches sanctuaries of physical, emotional, and spiritual safety. To give you tools to help make that happen in your church, we're going to investigate real crime stories from real churches. I've got three cases for us to investigate today, so let's dive right in. Highlights from this episode include: Mother's Day “gift” to churches that no one wants Pedophile priest says abuse “...wasn't a big deal in those days…” We may have made an idol out of the modern worship music machine This week in each of our cases, someone was trying to hide something evil. The Bible is pretty clear on how well that's going to work out. Luke 8:17 NLT For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all. I know there are all kinds of reasons to try to hide what we've done individually, as a ministry, and even as an entire church. We are embarrassed, we want to escape the consequences of our actions, and sometimes it's because we want to be able to continue the behavior even though we know it's wrong. When a church does this, the reason is often cloaked in very noble-sounding words: we don't want to harm the witness of the church. We want to keep up our reputation. We don't want to tarnigh the name of Jeus. I'm sorry, but that's all a load of crap. I'm going to be very bold here and say that the people who are saying this are complicit in the abuse of victims. It's very spiritually abusive to act as though what a victim has gone through deserves less care that the reputation of the abuser or the church does. I'll climb down off my soapbox now, ut I hope I've given you something to think about. Something to challenge your own church leaders about. Because the church should be working for the glory of God and for the people it serves, not the people it put into leadership positions. Visit my website to access more episodes. We're going to continue looking at how Jesus was praying for His disciples that were present with Him. He's going to continue to do that, but He's going to make a surprising prayer request for future disciples, which means He's going to pray for you and me. Come and see what His prayer requests are for you and me. Proclamation of the Word Message by Pastor Joe Sermon Notes John 17:13 Jesus continues to pray that the joy He has will be complete in them John 17:14 Jesus gave them the Father's word and the world hates them John 17:15 & 16 Jesus does not ask them to be taken out of the world, but be protected from the evil one John 17:17 – 19 Jeus asks the Father to sanctify His disciples and He has sanctified Himself for them John 17:20 Jesus prays for future disciples John 17:21 Jesus prays that the future disciple be one as the Father and He are one John 17:22 Jesus gave the disciples the glory given to Him so that they may be one as the Father and He are John 17:23 If the disciples are in Jesus and Jesus in the Father, they will be perfected in unity and know that the Father sent Jesus and the Father loves the disciples just as He loves the Son John 17:25 & 26 The world does not know the Father, but Jesus knows the Father and the disciples know that the Father sent the Son and Jesus has made the Father's name known and is making it known so that the Father's love of the Son may be in them and Jesus in them

We continue our journey toward the cross this week as we follow Jesus through scripture. In Mark chapter 14, we learn of the account of the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prays in distress, overwhelmed with what He will be facing in His death on the cross. You see, we have a Savior who has always and will always deeply care. He was not simply in agony over death but the burden of the wrath of God as He carried all our sins to the cross. He suffered in that moment, the equivalent of an eternity in hell, just for us. Our role is to recognize that Jesus is the only way and surrender to Him because He is Lord and to ask for His will, not ours. What's keeping you from being amazed that at Jeus' darkest hour, you were on His mind? As you read Second Corinthians 5:21 – God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God – what stands in the way of you surrendering to Him as Lord? As always, if you've got questions, we'd love to take time to answer them and pray with you. If you've taken the next step in your faith journey, let us know by visiting burnthickory.com/next.

The Consummate Covenant
The most obvious good news or “Gospel of the Kingdom of God” that Jeus proclaimed and lived is that the Gospel is not only for Jews but extends to Gentiles, outcasts, people sick with all kinds of diseases and torments, and the worst of sinners. How do I learn to pray? How do I pray so God listens? Rabbi Schneider, a Jewish believer in Jeus the Messiah, shares how to pray deeply and move God's heart. This episode reveals what the term "grace" means while teaching what biblical heroes like Adam, Eve, David, and Solomon actually said in their prayers. We can learn how to pray the right way so that our prayers are heard, answered, and grow our confidence and relationship with God.
By Dan Taylor in Lubbock, TX - December 17, 2022 - This time of year, many Christians and Non-Christians alike are in a festive mood as the world prepares to celebrate Christmas. A few will celebrate what they believe to be the birth of the savior. Most just want to give and get gifts and have a reason to party or get together with family and friends. Amazingly, few even ask the most fundamental questions that should come to mind about Jesus: was He the Messiah? And how do we know? In the Churches of God, we know Jesus was not born on December 25th, but these questions need to be answered for us too because ultimately, we are staking virtually everything on the veracity of one thing: that Jesus Christ of Nazareth was the prophesied Messiah of the pages of the Bible. My question for you today is, how sure are you that Jeus was the Messiah?
This week typically has people reflecting back over the year and then setting their faces toward the next.As we look at being prayerfully alert, we visit with Simeon and Anna at the temple when Jeus is presented to the Lord. These two model for us abiding in Christ. Our prayer life plugs us into the Almighty, just as it did for them. This, in turn, fuels us to don the full armor of God. As we reflect on the blessings God has given to us this year, let's remember that He is the true gift. Listen to this week's addition to the special Advent series as we see how the armor of God intertwines with the experience of the coming of Christ to help us stand strong in the Lord as we face our own battles by committing to spend more time with Him in the coming year.Bible verses referred to in this episode:Ephesians 6:18Luke 2:22-38John 15:4Ephesians 6:14-17Find me on Instagram @HLynnPierce or at hlynnpierce.comSign up for my E-mail list here!
No te preocupes. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/misioneros-digitales-catlicos/support
