The newly premiered Andor is the biggest and most ambitious Star Wars Disney+ streaming series yet. Created by showrunner Tony Gilroy, who oversaw the rewrites and reshoots that salvaged the theatrical release of Rogue One, Andor is a prequel to a prequel: beginning five years before that film, it will bring its principal characters to the events of Rogue One, which itself leads directly into A New Hope and the Original Trilogy. The first season of Andor includes 12 episodes, with 12 more planned for a second (and final) season that enters production later this year. From the trailers, interviews, press conference, and other promotion, it seems clear that Andor is intended to mark the entry of the Star Wars franchise into the “prestige television” space alongside series such as The Crown, Game of Thrones, or The Expanse. For its premiere on September 21, 2022, however, Andor released a trio of episodes focused almost entirely on the titular character, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and the immediate desperate aftermath of a particular incident. In this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester discuss how these episodes reintroduce Cassian to the audience at a very different point in his life compared to the seasoned Rebel Alliance operative from Rogue One. The episodes also make effective use of flashbacks to reach even farther back in his past – before, we learn, he even went by the name Cassian Andor – to lay the groundwork for the character arc that begins to develop in these early episodes of the series. In addition to the core story about Cassian, we consider the many new characters introduced in Andor, some of whom appear destined to play important roles in the series beyond the initial episodes. If you missed it during the early rounds of publicity and promotion in late August, be sure to catch up on the Andor coverage at Fangirls Going Rogue and FANgirl Blog now that series has launched into its weekly release schedule for the remaining nine episodes of the first season. Moon Knight, the 6th Disney+ Marvel series, has arrived! We prepare you for the entire series with a Comic Book primer, and share our thoughts on the first episode, “The Goldfish Problem.” There are so many layers to this character who first appeared in 1975 in the series Werewolf by Night. Plus having so many personalities, Moon Knight is very hard to boil down. But we did it. We gathered a lot of information and tried to focus on the highlights so it wouldn't be overwhelming. Now let's take the night with vengeance and justice and get into Moon Knight!   Premise of Marvel's Disney+ series   The series follows Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), a gift shop employee at a London museum that is currently showing an Egyptian exhibit. Steven Grant suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and is trying to figure out what is real and what is not, and he is guided along the way from another one of his identities named Marc Spector who is the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Along the way Steven Grant must contend with Marc's enemies like Dr. Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke), as they are thrust into a deadly mystery surrounding the powerful gods of Egypt.   Who is Moon Knight as found in the comics from the 80's?   The comics focus on Marc Spector, and Steven Grant is not a lovable loser who works in a gift shop. Marc Spector served as a Marine and briefly as a CIA operative, and is left for dead by fellow mercenary named Bushman in Sudan. Spector is brought before a statue of Khonshu and before he dies, he is suddenly revived and fully healed. He claims Khonshu wants him to be the "moon's knight", redeeming his life of violence by now protecting and avenging the innocent.    On his return to the United States, MARC Spector invests his mercenary profits into becoming the crimefighter "Moon Knight".  Along with his costumed alter ego, he primarily uses three other identities to gain information from different social circles: billionaire businessman Steven Grant, taxicab driver Jake Lockley, and suited consultant Mr. Knight. Sound like a familiar caped crusader? The similarities to Batman are undeniable!   There's more, so please listen by clicking the player above for all his comic book origins, and our thoughts on the first episode!   Where We Will Be   May 25, 2022: 3rd Annual Boonta Eve Cantina!
