Jeff Jackson has had a variety of coaching experiences in his career. Jackson has been the head coach for Notre Dame since 2005 and recently helped the Irish play in the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament for the 13th time in his tenure. Before that, he was an assistant coach for the New York Islanders (2003-04) and the head coach of the Guelph Storm (2000-03) of the Ontario Hockey League. Jackson helped create the United States National Team Development Program in 1997 and worked for USA Hockey through 2000. Before that, he was the head coach at Lake Superior State (1990-96) after spending four seasons as an assistant coach for the Lakers (1986-90). It was a great Saturday of hockey as the Boston Bruins returned to action and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 5-2.Derek Forbort scored a pair (seriously) after only ever scoring two goals in a single season since being drafted in 2010. Today's guest is Ashwin Patel. Ashwin is a Professor and Program Coordinator for the Sport Management and Recreation and Leisure Services programs at Humber College. He is also the co-founder of Sport and Wellness Consulting with Dr. Noah Gentner. Ashwin received his Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Tennessee and upon graduating, Ashwin spent seven and a half years as an Associate Professor at Western Colorado University.Since 2003, Ashwin has provided Mental Performance Consulting - both in corporate and sport settings. His primary passion is working with hockey players. In this capacity, he's worked with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League, the student-athletes at Victus Academy – a private hockey school in Kitchener. And with the Vancouver Canucks – focusing on the AHL team in Utica, NY. In 2020 he was a mental performance consultant with Hockey Canada's U17 team and in April 2021 worked as the mental performance consultant for Hockey Canada's Gold Medal winning U18 team at the IIHF World Championships.We cover so much ground in this episode that I needed to split it into two parts! In this second part, Ashwin and I look at why athletes want to have better "crappy days" and how to think about fit between mental performance consultants and the organizations they work for.

Learn about the OHL route and how it prepares players for a life in professional hockey. Hear the true details about the OHL draft, school packages, and opportunities after junior hockey. Kyle is the acting Director of Player Recruitment for the Ontario Hockey League. He is responsible for developing and implementing league recruitment strategy and activities and liaising with Minor Midget teams across Ontario and parts of the United States. He works closely with Minor Midget players and families to provide them with information and education regarding the opportunities the OHL provides. Kyle also helps further the development of the OHL Alumni Association, engage with and grow its membership, and coordinate annual events. Kyle spent four seasons in the OHL with the Brampton Battalion and Guelph Storm, eventually moving on to the USports level playing four seasons with the St. Mary's Huskies. He has won several academic and leadership awards throughout his career including the Roger Neilson Memorial Award (OHL), and USports All-Canadian Academic Team honors.

Gareth Berg is currently the Restaurant Coordinator at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph Ontario. This public facility is owned by the City of Guelph and is home to the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. In addition to hockey, this 5000+ seat venue also hosts concerts and conventions. Gareth oversees the 240 seat restaurant, 5 bars, 3 kitchens, 32 private suites and 55+ staff. Additionally, Gareth also teaches at Conestoga College in the Culinary and Hospitality programs. Gareth got his start in The Industry as a dishwasher at Benjamin's in St Jacobs Ontario. Being a hard worker, he quickly moved up to cook's apprentice. From there he moved on to La Costa in downtown Kitchener and eventually followed that up by going to Culinary School at Niagara College. Gareth starting working at Trius/Hillebrand Winery under Tony Deluca. Eventually, he moved on to Chef at the Merchant Ale House. In 2006 Gareth went back to school for a degree in Business Management - Hospitality at Niagara College. While working on his degree, Gareth worked at a number of bartending and service jobs in Niagara Falls and Niagara-On-The-Lake. Upon graduating, Gareth starting as the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at Zee's Grill in Niagara-On-The-Lake. Eventually, he moved on to Fionn MacCools in Cambridge Ontario. The job at Finn McCools involved taking his staff to open and train additional Finn McCools franchises as well as training incoming franchisees and their teams at the Cambridge location. Eventually, Gareth moved on to the Breadalbane Inn located in Fergus Ontario as the General Manager/Maitre'D for several years before finally entering his current roll in 2014 at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph where he remains to this day.
