The final chapter in George Lucas' prequel trilogy retuned to theaters 20 years after its original 2005 release. The film was written and directed by George Lucas and sees Ewan MacGregor, Hayden Christianson, Natalie Portman, Frank Oz, Christopher Lee, Ian McDiarmid & Samuel L. Jackson all return to their respective roles. This was the 6th film in the “Star Wars” series and the third film in the prequel trilogy. This also marked the last film to be made by George Lucas before he sold the “Star Wars” brand and LucasFilm to Disney in 2012.
Send us a textThe DetBlock crew might have started off talking a little bit about sports [hey, we love our sports!], but then they first dive in to talking a bit about Star Wars video games. News came out that Outlaws is underperforming, but there's still plenty of time for that to turn around. However, this could also just be a continuation of the times for the franchise and the, what some say, misses Disney and Lucasfilm have made recently. Either way, there are still plenty of fun Star Wars video games out there, and Bogie and Mike talk through a few of those. They then go into an interview that was recently aired where Star Wars Theory sits down with Stuart Beattie and they talk about Stuart's plan and story line for the original content that was going to be released about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Originally, instead of a show, Kenobi was going to be brought to the big screen with his own trilogy and Mr. Beattie wrote the script for all 3 movies. With everything going on in the early 2020's, this ended up getting scrubbed, changed up quite a bit, and turned into a show. If you haven't already, go listen to this interview. The original plan for Beattie's trilogy is absolutely AMAZING and it's a shame we never got it; only elements of it in the #Kenobi show. They then go into discussing some defining actors that just perfectly fit their character, inside and outside of Star Wars. From Heath Ledger as the Joker, William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Hayden Christianson as Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader, or Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, some actors just perfectly hit their mark. Unfortunately, for some of them, we lose them as soon as they bring those characters to life. Finally, the Crew close with talking about Bogie's initial dive into the animated show #CloneWars. We are super excited to follow along with him as he lives through this for the first time. The prequels obsession continues! This week, we tackle the absolutely whirlwind that is Star Wars: Episode II. With a little less Jar Jar and a lot more Obi Wan and our brooding boy Anakin, we think this one is worth the obsession. (And can we talk about Natalie Portman's white outfit??) As always, stick around to the end of the episode to hear about our modern obsession. This week, we talked about our joint obsesson: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
After a LONG hiatus, Mystery Science Marshall is back! In our segment FORCE FRIENDS, join host Marshall Laidlaw and co-host Peter Heryla IV to analyze the first four parts of the highly anticipated new Disney+ series set in the Star Wars universe, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Marshall and Peter discuss their initial expectations for the series before diving into Obi-Wan's character journey and the deep trauma he's experiencing by being thrust back into the action and encountering Darth Vader, his greatest failure. The hosts ponder Reva's mysterious backstory and how fascinatingly different Moses Ingram's character is then most Star Wars villains. The surprise and delight of Leia's inclusion breathes a discussion on parallels between Obi-Wan and Leia's relationship--where both characters are learning from one another--to Obi-Wan's mentoring relationship with Luke in the original trilogy. Strong similarities exist between Obi-Wan's and Vader's stories also, as both characters are journeying through the lowest and darkest stages of their lives but in vastly different ways. Marshall discusses the messages of hope and the wonderful water symbolism sprinkled through the episodes. Theorizing about the final two episodes, Marshall and Peter both want to see another confrontation between Obi-Wan and Vader. Marshall speculates that we will somehow see Hayden Christianson out of the suit portraying Anakin (but Vader Anakin). Peter wants a definitive answer about Reva's past and to see a lightsaber battle between Reva and Obi-Wan. To conclude, the hosts play a humorous round of Ship-It or Rip-It with random Star Wars characters. We're so excited that you've chosen to listen to this podcast! May the Fourth Be With You All! Happy May The Fourth once again! This year we decided to ask a TON of Star Wars questions to each other and see what our answers were. We are talking things like... who should've played Anakin Skywalker instead of Hayden Christianson? What color lightsaber would you have? And is the Prequel trilogy really the most cohesive trilogy of them all? Plus things get a little weirdddd when Austin asks a NSFW question about droids... just sayin! Have any Star Wars thoughts? Send them our way on Twitter or Instagram! And May The Fourth Be With You!
We discuss Hayden Christianson and Nicolas Cage having fake accents, the poorly written and generally hurried nature of the film, and what happens when the film runs out of money to make Nic Cage convincingly blind. This week's episode is a testiment to women who have it all and the compromises they have to make, such as finding the time to record an entire episode in one sitting. In our first recording session we bring you your favorite segment, Listen to Kirstie and Kelsey Google, and react in real time to the 2018 Hallmark Christmas movie lineup. There are several hot titles we're looking forward to including apperances from at least one Candace. In our second recording, we bring you the Film That Was promised: Little Italy. We beg you, do not watch this movie but do listen to this segment because we've got bespoke rooftop garden lamps, organic pizza dreams, taking shots while playing sexy rain soccer, wet armpit make outs, The Best Pizza Competition, and lots of premade dough. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all. We're members of the Thought Bubble Audio Network.
