Do we understand God as clearly as we think, or do we have to fight through as many difficulties as Louise does when conversing with the heptapods in the film Arrival? Our guests Paul Williams and Michael Davenport have a lot to say about this and other questions. We delve into Louise as a type of Eve and nature of her choice to bring a child into the world in spite of certain death, including meditating on our own fallen mortality. On this week’s episode, Tessa and Tricia talk Arrival starring SFL Amy Adams. Tessa shares her love for Montana and AmTrack, while Tricia confesses her hate for "that Greyhound Life" and her prison pen-pal. They chat about future flashes and how we’re beyond the help of the heptapods, and attempt to communicate without the concept of time (whatever that means). Also, is Jeremy Renner’s character a Manic Pixie Dream Boy and can everyone tap into the future like Dr. Louise? Tune in to hear the ladies debate these hard hitting questions and go off the rails per usual. If you'd like to choose a movie for the podcast, leave us a review on Apple Podcast and include your pick there!! We chose to do this podcast completely in English instead of the Heptapod language. Not that we're trying to exclude any Heptapod from listening to this podcast, it's just that our listeners are typically from Earth and they don't understand that alien language. We totally could have done it in an alien language...we just didn't want to show off. This movie is gripping for so many reasons. Too many reasons to explain here. You'll have to listen to the podcast for all of the amazing details. And we do go into detail. Spoiler detail! Enjoy and... ...I just tried to type in the aliens language, ya know to be inclusive, and my computer crashed. The jerks aren't compatible with Macs. Every year seems to offer its own 'smart' science-fiction movie: Gravity, Interstellar, The Martian, and now Arrival. But does Denis Villeneuve's pre-Blade Runner foray into sci-fi shine like those Oscar-nominated blockbusters? Or does a terrific Amy Adams performance and a top-notch Jóhann Jóhannsson score cover up some serious character and story flaws? You don't have to understand Heptapod to enjoy this latest episode of the In Reel Deep Podcast!
