If you've ever found something antique in your attic, you know that you have to handle it with care. It's part of your history and it's has sentimental value, if not monetary value. So to make a movie based on a classic, beloved franchise requires a deft and caring hand. Did Ron Howard preserve this galactic Ming vase (pronounced the pretentious way, with a long A) or did he fumble-finger it onto the hardwood floor of history? In this fun and spoiler-filled episode, Jay and AJ jump into the pilot seats of the Millennium Falcon! They discuss the new lore of the Star Wars spin-off, the logic of the Kessel Run and how this new Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) measures up! Still Shorter than Chewbacca, of course! There comes a time in everyone's life where you have to decide what's right and what you're willing to do for the good of the world. Where you have to decided if sacrificing everyone and everything you love is worth the reward. And that is why we are releasing this podcast so late. We also had to save the universe from some purple dude with bling...You're welcome. The whole* Avengers crew is here: Iron Man, Cap, Black Panther...haha you thought we were going to list them all. We don't have enough characters! Unlike this movie! Jay and AJ talk about the seemingly impossible task the Russo brothers were given in directing this behemoth of a movie, which characters' arc we enjoyed the most and who, in fact, is the protagonist of the movie. Collect those infinity stones (watch all the previous movies**) before you settle in for this sesh on Avengers: Infinity War! *Not all the Avengers are in this movie. **You don't actually have to watch all the movies Follow us Socially on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @CinemaSesh Email us with questions, comments or ideas for soundproofing at cinemasesh@gmail.com And finally Subscribe! Shhhh. They're all around us. They can hear the faintest sound. They'll hunt us until they find us and then...the unthinkable. We need to stay silent. We need to keep each other safe and survive. Better listen to this episode with headphones... On this episode of Cinema Sesh, Jay and AJ tiptoe through the horror film John Krazinski directed, wrote and stars in with Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. They discuss (quietly) what it would be like to exist in this meticulously built world, the use of silence vs. score and the importance of high stakes in a suspense thriller. AJ and Jay (We promise it's really them) jump back into the rift with the Jaegers and maybe some Kaiju? The Sesh boys talk about John Boyega's ability to helm a franchise, the insane names of the Jaegers and the importance of delivery of monsters in a monster movie. This Jason Bateman/Rachel McAdams-led ensemble throws multiple curveballs into the mix of what could have been just a mediocre comedy. When facing extinction, one must remember to not panic. If one stays calm one can rationalize through the many options available to oneself. If one panics, one will try to kidnap and enslave a bunch of kids for their brain goo to let you live a few more weeks at a time. And that's just mean. Don't Panic. Rounding out the Maze Runner trilogy, the Sesh Boys tackle the most action packed and the most tragic of the movies. Here are some of the riveting highlights: Talking about the logistics of building the Mazes and other massive construction projects in the apocalypse, Which Glader you would want as your backup in battle (Spoiler: It's Minho. In this dizzying episode, the Sesh begins to tackle The Maze Runner trilogy, starting with it's first chapter, obviously! Kids have all the fun. They get to play in the dirt, splash around in puddles, build forts and it's not weird if they collect hundreds of toys. But if you're an adult, people look at you weird if you have a full room dedicated to the action figures. Except if you jump up to the next level...except if you're Michael Bay. Then you get to play in the Autobot junkyard, you get to splash around in the Atlantic Ocean, build a gigantic planet fortress and throw in Optimus Primse and as many Transformers that will fit on a screen! But does that equal a good movie? AJ and Jay decide as they discuss Bay's 5th and possibly final installment of Transformers. They guys dig into the decade old franchise, attempting to compare and contrast the 5 movies, do a roll call of the big names that have appeared in the franchise and try to discern if anything in this movie makes sense. Fun Fact: When you type in 'Process of' into Google, 'mummification' is the first autofill result. Listen, we're gonna level with you. Nothing in this movie is nearly as interesting as that description of mummification AJ found on Google. It's a mess of grayness, CGI zombies and simplistic plot/dialogue. They say never meet your heroes. Thank goodness Emmy Award Winning Jim O'Heir isn't AJ's hero! (Full disclosure, this blurb is being written in the third person by AJ so it's kind of surreal. Also, no need to take any of this seriously.) Actually, AJ considers Jim, who played Jerry Gergich on Parks and Rec, a good friend who he feels honored to joke around with. If only Jim would relax that darn restraining order on him! But really though, Jim is a prince of a man. Which is a coincidence because he has a Prince Albert! He forced AJ to look at it during the interview. Because Jim doesn't wear pants during interviews. Look it up. Jim is promoting an exciting new movie, Middle Man! It's out in theaters June 9th 2017! Catch it around the country in limited release! Which is rare for Jim. He usually demands full release. All joking aside, Jim is an absolutely wonderful guy; nice, caring and funny. With the tide high and the wind at our backs, we once again grab the wheel and point our ship toward wherever adventure takes us. Will we search for some magical treasure? Or fight some cursed pirates? Or retread the same tropes of the first four movies? All compasses point to maybe. AJ and Jay have loved the pirate franchise since they both saw Curse of the Black Pearl when it premiered on AJ's birthday in 2003. They've stuck with these characters for 14 years and five movies. But now, with the end on the horizon, how will the possible final chapter of Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of his pirate cohorts fair on the choppy waters of sequel overload? Covenant Complaint Log, 2104: When I agreed to go on this colonization mission, I was told that it's gonna be a good time. I'm not complaining, it's nice to sleep for years on end but there was nothing in the brochure about aliens with acid blood! Also, they lost my luggage. One Star. Would not recommend. Although, that review of the experience on the Covenant was not a ringing endorsement, Jay and AJ may have a different opinion of Alien: Covenant the movie! In the beginning there were the Guardians. And it was good. A ragtag group of aliens saving the galaxy from threats of destruction. Did anyone think that this would be the last time their services would be needed? Could Starlord and his crew just go back to their lives with the memory of their glory behind them? Could a billion dollar franchise end with just one incredibly successful movie? Of course not! Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot are all back for the sophomore Vol. 2! Five years after Harry left Hogwarts, we apparate back into the Wizarding World, this time following Newt Scamander and some other fresh faces around 1920s New York. We talk about the mythology of the book from which this movie draws its name, the future of the 5 parts Beasts series and the possibility that Dumbledore's Army was simply hidden up his sleevey. We attempt to match wizard wits, with Jay roundly trouncing AJ in his knowledge of the Harry Potter mythos and his ability to pronounce the charms and spells. AJ is bad at that.
