¿Quieres ayudarnos a seguir mejorando y creciendo? To kick off this week's episode, Joe enthusiastically shares with Cody that he has finally taken the time to watch the much-discussed film directed by Guy Ritchie and featuring John Krasinski, titled The Fountain of Youth. This film, which has garnered a variety of opinions since its release, presents a unique blend of action and storytelling that Joe found particularly engaging. He reflects on the film's themes and cinematography, expressing his thoughts on how Ritchie's distinctive style combined with Krasinski's performance created a captivating viewing experience. In response, Cody mentions that he recently watched the first episode of the reboot of The Muppet Show, which is now available for streaming on Disney+. He shares his excitement about seeing the beloved characters return to the screen, noting how the reboot captures the charm and humor that fans have come to love over the years. Cody discusses some of the standout moments from the episode, highlighting the clever writing and the way the show pays homage to its classic roots while also bringing a fresh perspective to a new audience. As the conversation progresses, the guys shift their focus to the latest industry news, particularly the announcement that Dan Trachtenberg has signed a first-look deal with Paramount. Joe and Cody delve into what this could mean for Trachtenberg's future projects, considering his previous work on films like 10 Cloverfield Lane and his direction of the highly anticipated Predator prequel, Prey. They speculate on the types of projects Trachtenberg might pursue under this new agreement and how his unique vision could influence the direction of Paramount's upcoming slate of films. To wrap up the episode, Joe inquires whether Cody has seen the recently released images from the upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter. This film has generated a considerable amount of buzz among fans of the franchise, and Joe expresses his curiosity about how the characters will be portrayed on screen. Cody shares his thoughts on the images, discussing the design choices and how they compare to previous adaptations of the iconic video game series. 9to5.cc Podcasts: Including Go Plug Yourself (GPYS) & 9to5 Entertainment System (9ES)

We know that we occasionally get a little into politics news on 9ES but we also recognize that can be a huge bummer. So instead we talk about Predator: Badlands. It's not that we don't care about what's going on in the world, we just care a lot more about what happens when a Yautja and a Weyland-Yutani team up on a murder planet. Honestly, Predator: Badlands might be the “weakest” of the three Predator projects helmed to date by Dan Trachtenberg. I use quotations there because while it's not as good as Prey or Killer of Killers it's probably the most fun a Predator movie has been since the original. Is it fan service to see a Yautja go toe-to-toe with absurd deadly monsters and synths for 100 minutes? Sure. But it's fan service done right. The fact that it kind of ties in with Alien: Earth really seems like they're building a pathway to an Alien vs Predator movie that isn't complete shit and that's way more exciting than global politics. We even manage to talk about One Battle After Another without getting too bummed out. But then Scott watched Tron: Ares and Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins and that pretty much bummed us all out. We spend most of this episode of Garbage Time talking about Keith’s experience so far playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You might not believe this but it’s actually pretty good. Somehow the most awarded video game in the history of The Game Awards really stands out as a good video game. But this is 9ES so Keith manages to nitpick it anyways. You know what was a perfect game though? Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. The game that we vaguely mention about being an RPG that you play on console via your phone is (I think) Sunderfolk. If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated. Here are this movies that at least one of dug this year: SINNERS Directed by Ryan Coogler Written by Ryan Coogler From IMDB: Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. When this was announced, I wasn't sure of what to make of it. Surely, a dip into the From Dusk Til Dawn pond wasn't a thing that crossed my mind, but we got a wee bit of that here. Currently on HBO Max WEAPONS Directed by Zach Cregger Written by Zach Cregger From IMDB: When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. What a great follow-up to Gregger's Barbarian. Not quite as What-The-Fuck-y as Barbarian, but it's not in short supply of nuttiness. Currently on HBO Max PREDATOR: BADLANDS Directed by Dan Trachtenberg Written by Patrick Aison and Dan Trachtenberg From IMDB: A young Predator outcast from his clan finds an unlikely ally on his journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Dan Trachtenberg returns to the Predator franchise for the third time in his career and the second time in 2025. (See below,) This time, telling the story through a young Predator out to prove to his father and his clan he is worthy of his armor. Currently in theaters with Cinema AT Home rentals coming soon.   PREDATOR: KILLER of KILLERS Directed by Dan Trachtenberg Written by Micho Robert Rutare From IMDB: Three of the fiercest warriors in human history become prey to the ultimate killer of killers. With only his third feature film of his career, Trachtenberg tells his latest stories from Man versus Predator saga in animation form this time. Great storytelling all around, with a TON of Easter Eggs to be had. Currently on Hulu   FRANKENSTEIN Directed by Guillermo del Toro Written by Guillermo del Toro From IMDB: Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist, brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation. Del Toro makes his way back into the class monster stories with his own take on Mary Shelley's well-worn story of the same name. But he does it only in a way that GDT can. Currently on Netflix   SORRY, BABY Directed by Eva Victor Written by Eva Victor From IMDB: After a tragic event, a woman finds herself alone while everyone else continues with their lives as if nothing had happened.   *THUNDERBOLTS Directed by Jake Schreier Written by Eric Pearson, Joanna Calo, and Kurt Busiek From IMDB: After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes must go on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Currently on Disney +   COMPANION Directed by Drew Hancock Written by Drew Hancock From IMDB: A weekend getaway with friends at a remote cabin turns into chaos after it's revealed that one of the guests is not what they seem. Currently on Prime Video and HBO Max   Superman Directed by James Gunn Written by James Gunn From IMDB: Superman must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent. As the embodiment of truth, justice and the human way he soon finds himself in a world that views these as old-fashioned. Wake Up, Dead Man Directed by Rian Johnson From IMDB: Detective Benoit Blanc teams up with an earnest young priest to investigate a perfectly impossible crime at a small-town church with a dark history.   BLACK BAG Directed by Steven Soderbergh Written by David Koepp From IMDB: When intelligence agent Kathryn Woodhouse is suspected of betraying the nation, her husband - also a legendary agent - faces the ultimate test of whether to be loyal to his marriage, or his country. Currently on Prime Video, and Available to Rent on All Rental Platforms, as well as 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. CHAINSAW MAN THE MOVIE - REZE ARC Directed by Tatsuya YoshiharaWritten by Tatsuki Fujimoto and Hiroshi Seko From IMDB: Denji encounters a new romantic interest, Reze, who works at a coffee café.   2025 had a really nice mixed bag of movies we dug, and very little we didn't. Send us a textWelcome back to DMRThe newest installment in the Predator franchise, Predator: Badlands, breaks new ground by placing a Predator, or Yautja, as its central protagonist. The story follows Dek, a young, outcast Yautja on a quest to prove his worth to his warrior clan by hunting the seemingly unkillable apex predator of the treacherous, alien world of Genna, often called "The Death Planet." His perilous journey leads to an unlikely alliance with an advanced Weyland-Yutani Corporation android named Thia, whose own mission on the hostile planet went sideways. Together, the mismatched pair must navigate the lethal environment, evade Weyland-Yutani forces, and confront a terrifying creature that challenges everything Dek has been taught about the honor of the hunt, making for a thrilling sci-fi survival adventure. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who also helmed the critically acclaimed Prey. The main cast features Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as the Predator protagonist, Dek, and Elle Fanning in the dual role of the androids Thia and Tessa. As of the latest reports, Predator: Badlands has earned over $162 million at the global box office. Critics have embraced the fresh take, awarding it a Certified Fresh 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences have given it an even higher score of 96%.Reminder to grab your 30 day free Audible trial, link in the show; you'll be helping support DMR

Predator Badlands should've been the ninth-installment cash-grab we all politely ignore… but somehow Dan Trachtenberg cooked. In this week's Thumb War, Rachel and Jason dive into the surprisingly emotional new Predator movie that mixes Klingon-like family drama, Alien-universe corporate stupidity, exploding caterpillars, razor grass, and the most adorable digital murder-gremlin since Grogu. We get into: Predator sibling beef Elle Fanning playing two androids (one sweet, one corporate demon) Found-family wolf-pack metaphors The baby callous creature who is basically Hazel in CGI form Weyland-Yutani being idiots… again And the controversial PG-13 “Disney-fication” of Predator This one is shockingly heartfelt, visually bonkers, and absolutely primed for a sequel.
