The first “Predator” movie in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger was a hit, and gave us all our fav Arnold impersonation line, “GET TO THE CHOPPA!” Now we get a new Predator movie, 38 years after that original, called “Predator Badlands.” Is it good enough to “GET TO THE THEATER?!!!” That remains to be seen. The Predator franchise was a Fox product, but now Disney owns Fox and Disney will put its fingerprints on any new Predator entry, including this one. “Predator Badlands” stars Elle Fanning as Thia, who is a synthetic or robot, who is found by Dek, the main predator, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. Dek is seen as the weakest by his predator clan, especially his father, and is ferociously driven to take down a big trophy and return with it to show he is a hunter, a killer worthy of the clan. He ends up on a planet to take down that trophy and Thia ends up helping him on his journey. Is it worth a trip to the theater to find out what happens? Predator: Badlands is a 2025 American science fiction action film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison from a story by Trachtenberg and Aison. It is the seventh installment in the Predator franchise, and the ninth overall including the crossover series. Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi star in leading roles. In the film, Dek, a young Yautja exiled from his clan, crash-lands on a hostile planet and must prove himself worthy of the hunt. Dan Trachtenberg Predator (1987) started the franchise off as a Science Fiction masterpiece- an almost unbeatable hunter doing battle against a special forces commando unit complete with Arnold Schwarzenegger and director John McTiernan 80's magic.  Now, in 2025, we get the latest installment with a twist- the Predator is not only the protagonist but also very humanized and we are sympathetic towards him. Dan Trachtenberg's next Predator adventure - Predator: Badlands - is now out in theaters! This is already his THIRD entry into the franchise - one more and he'll match the amount of standalone Predator movies there were before he arrived. I wouldn't call myself a fan of this franchise, but I love the idea of the Yautja as these intergalactic hunters in a clan where they're either the Predator or the Prey. It's just unfortunate that all these movies, including the few I like, are basically the same. I've liked both Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers but I wouldn't say I've been as crazy about them as others; I think it's fair to say I'm pretty burnt out on the formula of this franchise. I can't even say I'm IN LOVE with the original or anything like that. But now, we finally have a movie where one of the Yautja is actually the protagonist with Badlands.
