Today's message was preceded by the presentation of the Second Day of Advent - Peace. This was presented by Jean Wallace and Trevor Morris, with the lighting of the Peace candle. As we travel through the advent season, and come to the day that we commemorate Peace. We must ask ourselves, if Peace is a gift from God, what are we given peace from? The answer is a simple one - conflict. As unregenerate people, dead in our sins, we are at war with our very Creator.  But God, in His infinite mercy rescues His children from the curse of sin and death, and changes us from enemy combatants to joint heirs with Christ Himself. Along the new journey, through our Sanctification, we will find that we are at war with so many other things, and people, and God will lead us through to the end.  Join Pastor Jason as he lays out the journey of Christian from War with God, through War with People, and finally to Peace.   Reverend Jason Robbins Highlawn Baptist Church (www.HighlawnBaptistChurch.org)   Today's Scriptures: Isaiah 8:21 - 9:7 CSB Romans 8:7-11 NIV Galatians 5:19-26 NIV 2 Corinthians 5:11-21 NIV Morning Service December 4, 2022   If you feel led to support our ministry, you can find us on Tithe.ly.  You can either click here to create an account and give online, or you can download the app for Apple or Android.  (Note: use the "green" app).  Create an account and search for "Highlawn Baptist Church" in "Saint Albans, WV".  Thank you!   FIND US ON YOUTUBE!  Sunday Morning sermons (as well as this sermon) can be found by searching for "Highlawn Baptist" on YouTube, or by clicking here.   Live Streams of Sunday morning services can also be found on YouTube at about 11:00 AM, every Sunday.  Subscribe and "ring the bell" for our YouTube page to be alerted when the live stream starts!  We've now added live streams of our Wednesday evening "Journey Through the Bible" lessons! What was it about Arthurian legends that so captivated 1960s audiences? Depending on who's doing the retelling, and the century they're living in, the tales of King Arthur and his knights vary wildly from stodgy conservative fables, to shockingly taboo love triangles, to intriguing surrealistic sorcery. When Lerner and Loewe's play Camelot arrived on the scene in 1960 it quickly became a smash hit – an adaptation of T. E. White's Freudian-heavy text, it starred Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and put Robert Goulet on the map. Camelot was further imprinted onto the public consciousness in 1963 when, after the assassination of her husband, Jackie Kennedy went on record to say it was one of Jack's favorite soundtracks. In this episode, Bart and Jenna dive headfirst into a world of myth, magic, legend and a whole lot of jousting. As they weave their way through a series of largely mediocre films that seem like they should've been made for children – y'know, if it wasn't for all that nudity and violence – they look ever forward. Moving towards a shining ideal that they can see but cannot reach. For, like the Knights of the Round Table before them, they seek out the one true film that will unlock the truth and righteousness. A holy object that will single-handedly bring back the glory that was once known as… !!!The following films are discussed:• The Magic Sword (1962) Directed by Bert I. Gordon Starring Basil Rathbone, Estelle Winwood, Gary Lockwood• Lancelot and Guinevere (1963) Directed by Cornel Wilde Starring Cornel Wilde, Jean Wallace, Brian Aherne• Siege of the Saxons (1963) Directed by Nathan Juran Starring Janette Scott, Ronald Lewis, Ronald Howard• The Sword in the Stone (1963) Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman Voices by Rickie Sorensen, Sebastian Cabot, Karl Swenson• Willy McBean and his Magic Machine (1965) Directed by Arthur Rankin Jr. Voices by Larry D. The Big Combo is a 1955 film noir by director Joseph H. Lewis starring Cornel Wilde, Richard Conte, Brian Donlevy, and Jean Wallace. And boy, is it a mixed bag! The film follows a dull detective seeking to bust Mr. Brown, the leader of an insidious crime syndicate, or "combo." Along the way, our hero obsesses over Brown's piano-loving moll, undergoes torture-by-jazz, and infringes upon the civil rights of countless besuited crooks. When people usually think of clairvoyants, they envision a woman at a carnival wearing a turban, staring ominously into a crystal ball. Jean Wallace, on the other hand was much more down to earth—though just as mysterious. “The concrete thing about her is that she lived here, and that’s pretty much the main thing we know 100% sure. And then you could also say her clairvoyance was probably a very known factor, considering how many people experienced that with her.” That’s Kaitlyn McConnell, founder of Ozarks Alive, a website dedicated to the preservation of local history and culture. In 2016, she wrote an extensive article covering what we know about the Mountain Maid. Jean Wallace was rumored to have magical powers to see the unseen. Wallace and her origins before coming to the Ozarks remain a mystery. We know
