We're pleased to welcome Charlie Conder, Lead Coach for the Youth Cartel, an organization dedicated to encouraging and challenging adults who minister to youth through holistic professional coaching. Charlie led a large youth ministry; in fact, her middle school participants grew to be half the size of the entire church. She discusses the challenges she faced as her ministry grew, leading to significant stress and physical and mental burnout. Charlie emphasizes the importance of recognizing signs of burnout, understanding the manifestation of stress in one's body, and the need for a more holistic approach to leadership. She also shares more about her decision to step away from ministry, the grieving process involved, and the guilt associated with prioritizing personal well-being. The conversation touches on the role of leaders in creating a culture that values self-care, open communication, and supporting one another. In each episode, we ask our guests to highlight an organization that is doing work. Charlie wanted to shout out Terre Haute Friendship House, which offers an inclusive and affordable housing model that brings individuals with and without disabilities together in community to reach their full potential in Terre Haute, Indiana. About our guest: Charlie Conder grew up in rural Illinois but has been living in metro Atlanta, GA for the past 19 years. She has two grown daughters who stop by to shop in the pantry from time to time. Before being called into ministry, Charlie taught Middle School for 6 years. For the last 18 years, Charlie has been serving in the local Methodist Church. She currently works for Orange as an XP3 student specialist and is the Lead Coach for The Youth Cartel. Charlie has never passed a dog that she didn't want to pet and her most favorite thing in the world is a Swedish Fish. But only the OG red ones. You can find her at charlieconder.com and on Instagram at @charlieconder. In this episode we dive into the world of smart contracts and their remarkable impact on organizational design. Our guest Justice Conder provides a thought-provoking introduction to what he calls the third law of nature of smart contracts. We explore the transformative journey from traditional corporations to the realm of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) keeping a non ideological mindset and examining the challenges of bridging the gap between the two paradigms. Justice Conder does DAO Ecosystem Development at Polygon Labs. Before this he was a full-stack developer and Agile practitioner for over ten years and entered the world of DAOs through BanklessDAO, where he contributed as a governance solution engineer. With Justice we explore the disconnect between DAOs and traditional organizations, investigating how smart contracts - as a conceptual evolution of DevOps - could play a pivotal role in driving organizational transformation. We also discuss how pioneering transformations such as the one with Haier's management model, Rendanheyi, has a symbiotic relationship with the on-chain revolution, offering insights into the future of organizational design and management. Get ready to be inspired by the immense potential of Web3 capabilities in product development, and discover how these capabilities can be harnessed to unleash innovation, foster user engagement, and shape the future of products and organizations. Sue Conder is an occupational psychologist, business change expert and former partner at Deloitte with over 30 years of experience in people leadership and large organisational change solutions. Sue became fascinated with psychology in her early years when working in a library. Big change programmes need to focus on the people dimension of change and the leaders role to bring vision and clarity to others. Sue tells me that leaders are in the business of generating new habits, at scale. The importance of embracing different is something that Sue focuses on due to the need for us all to embrace diversity of thought and resist simply gravitating towards the familiar and comfortable. Sue's research, 'The Chemistry of Difference' was created off the back of her series of female leadership programmes as she wanted to explore the issue of difference more closely. Just as chemicals react differently when they come into contact with different elements, so do people react and behave differently when exposed to other people and personality types. Sue created The Chemistry of Difference Model to help leaders navigate this complexity. It comprises 10 components and in this episode Sue talks me through a number of them. I love talking to the ladies who have been in the sport of fishing for a long time. They always have the greatest stories and memories to share. This week's guest is no exception! Linda Conder hails from the U.P. (Upper Peninsula of Michigan), but lived in Minnesota for many years. She joined Women Anglers of Minnesota and after some encouragement from the president of that group at the time, she joined the Bass'n Gals Women's Pro Bass Tour. She fished about 50 tournaments with that group and has lot of great stories to tell from her adventures. This is part one of our conversation. Stay tuned for next week to hear part two! Enjoy!
