Send Mary a text! Discover how to shift from the conventional "fix-it" approach to animal bodywork to creating a tactile conversation with your animal's nervous system. Rather than attempting to stretch, release, or realign body parts, Mary Debono reveals how supporting the nervous system—the body's true control center—creates profound, lasting change.Mary shares case studies of horses with chronic back pain and dogs with spinal issues, demonstrating how gentle, respectful touch that honors the animal's innate wisdom achieves results. She explains why poking into sore areas creates defensiveness rather than healing, and how her approach creates an environment of safety that allows the nervous system to let go of protective habits.Listeners will learn how the ribs and sternum play a critical role in back mobility for both horses and dogs, and how to begin using their hands to "listen" rather than manipulate. Mary offers a simple but profound starting exercise to shift from doing bodywork "to" your animal to engaging "with" them in a co-creative dialogue. This episode provides a foundation for a deeper connection with your animals while improving their comfort and movement—a true win-win approach that benefits both animal and human.Key TakeawaysCreating safety is essential for lasting change—poking into painful areas only creates defensivenessHorses and dogs develop habits of overusing some parts of the spine and underusing othersRib and sternum mobility play a crucial role in back health for both horses and dogsTouch can be a two-way conversation where both beings are listening to each otherThe bodywork isn't done "to" the animal but co-created "with" them through respectful dialogue, creating deeper trust When you improve your listening skills with your hands, both you and your animal benefitResources:Grab your FREE videos on Connected Breathing and Rhythm Circles to help your dog.
I used to love being the “strong friend.” For awhile, it was a large part of my identity, and I'd brag about dropping anything to help a friend in need.In retrospect, it's easy to see how being the “strong friend” came naturally to me. I had a complex, traumatic childhood, and as the eldest daughter, I became a caregiver at a very young age and dealt with a lot of unpredictable circumstances. At school, I put myself in leadership positions where at the end of the day, the buck stopped with me, from becoming class president to varsity coxswain on the rowing team. But over time, it became clear this title – the “strong friend” – came at a cost. That's what today's episode is about: the costs of being the “strong friend,” and how I eventually was able to remove myself from this role (which had its own costs). If you've ever played this role, I hope this episode gives you permission to make small shifts to lighten your load. I promise, those changes do add up over time. In this episode you'll hear about:How being the “strong friend” actually denied other people in my life the chance to show up for me and for each otherThe unsustainable patterns this dynamic created, going from one grand gesture to the next, and how this impacted school, work, and my partnership with MichaelChoosing gestures that are actually not disruptive – for us, it's company – vs. disruptive, like taking time off work to stay with somebodyHow I shifted some of these patterns, including learning to build bridges instead of boundariesResources & LinksListen to Episode 85 about shifting people-pleasing patterns and to Episode 112 about breaking the ways we show up into phases.Like what you hear? “What are you going through?” This was one of the central animating questions in Simone Weil's thought that pushed her beyond philosophy into action. Weil believed that genuinely asking this question of the other, particularly the afflicted other, then truly listening and prayerfully attending, would move us toward an enactment of justice and love.Simone Weil believed that any suffering that can be ameliorated, should be.In this episode, Part 2 of our short series on How to Read Simone Weil, Cynthia Wallace (Associate Professor of English at St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan), and author of The Literary Afterlives of Simone Weil: Feminism, Justice, and the Challenge of Religion and Evan Rosa discuss the risky self-giving way of Simone Weil; her incredible literary influence, particularly on late 20th century feminist writers; the possibility of redemptive suffering; the morally complicated territory of self-sacrificial care and the way that has traditionally fallen to women and minorities; what it means to make room and practicing hospitality for the afflicted other; hunger; the beauty of vulnerability; and that grounding question for Simone Weil political ethics, “What are you going through?”We're in our second episode of a short series exploring How to Read Simone Weil. She's the author of Gravity and Grace, The Need for Roots, and Waiting for God—among many other essays, letters, and notes—and a deep and lasting influence that continues today. In this series, we're exploring Simone Weil the Mystic, Simone Weil the Activist, Simone Weil the Existentialist. And what we'll see is that so much of her spiritual, political, and philosophical life, are deeply unified in her way of being and living and dying. And on that note, before we go any further, I need to issue a correction from our previous episode in which I erroneously stated that Weil died in France. And I want to thank subscriber and listener Michael for writing and correcting me.Actually she died in England in 1943, having ambivalently fled France in 1942 when it was already under Nazi occupation—first to New York, then to London to work with the Free French movement and be closer to her home. And as I went back to fix my research, I began to realize just how important her place of death was. She died in a nursing home outside London. In Kent, Ashford to be precise. She had become very sick, and in August 1943 was moved to the Grosvenor Sanitorium. The manner and location of her death matter because it's arguable that her death by heart failure was not a self-starving suicide (as the coroner reported), but rather, her inability to eat was a complication rising from tuberculosis, combined with her practice of eating no more than the meager rations her fellow Frenchmen lived on under Nazi occupation. Her biographer Richard Rees wrote: "As for her death, whatever explanation one may give of it will amount in the end to saying that she died of love.In going back over the details of her death, I found a 1977 New York Times article by Elizabeth Hardwick, and I'll quote at length, as it offers a very fitting entry into this week's episode on her life of action, solidarity, and identification with and attention to the affliction of others.“Simone Weil, one of the most brilliant, and original minds of 20th century France, died at the age of 34 in a nursing home near London. The coroner issued a verdict of suicide, due to voluntary starvation—an action undertaken at least in part out of wish not to eat more than the rations given her compatriots in France under the German occupation. The year of her death was 1943.“The willed deprivation of her last period was not new; indeed refusal seems to have been a part of her character since infancy. What sets her apart from our current ascetics with their practice of transcendental meditation, diet, vegetarianism, ashram simplicities, yoga is that with them the deprivations and rigors‐are undergone for the pay‐off—for tranquility, for thinness, for the hope of a long life—or frequently, it seems, to fill the hole of emptiness so painful to the narcissist. With Simone Well it was entirely the opposite.“It was her wish, or her need, to undergo misery, affliction and deprivation because such had been the lot of mankind throughout history. Her wish was not to feel better, but to honor the sufferings of the lowest. Thus around 1935, when she was 25 years old, this woman of transcendent intellectual gifts and the widest learning, already very frail and suffering from severe headaches, was determined to undertake a year of work in a factory. The factories, the assembly lines, were then the modem equivalent of “slavery,” and she survived in her own words as “forever a slave.” What she went through at the factory “marked me in so lasting a manner that still today when any human being, whoever he may be and in whatever circumstances, speaks to me without brutality, I cannot help having the impression teat there must be a mistake....”[Her contemporary] “Simone de Beauvoir tells of meeting her when they were preparing for examinations to enter a prestigious private school. ‘She intrigued me because of her great reputation for intelligence and her bizarre outfits. ... A great famine had broken out in China, and I was told that when she heard the news she had wept. . . . I envied her for having a heart that could beat round the world.'“In London her health vanished, even though the great amount of writing she did right up to the time she went to the hospital must have come from those energies of the dying we do not understand—the energies of certain chosen dying ones, that is. Her behavior in the hospital, her refusal and by now her Inability to eat, vexed and bewildered the staff. Her sense of personal accountability to the world's suffering had reached farther than sense could follow.”Last week, we heard from Eric Springsted, one of the co-founders of the American Weil Society and author of Simone Weil for the Twenty-First Century.Next week, we'll explore Simone Weil the Existentialist—with philosopher Deborah Casewell, author of Monotheism & Existentialism and Co-Director of the Simone Weil Research Network in the UK.But this week we're looking at Simone Weil the Activist—her perspectives on redemptive suffering, her longing for justice, and her lasting influence on feminist writers. With me is Cynthia Wallace, associate professor of English at St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan, and author of The Literary Afterlives of Simone Weil: Feminism, Justice, and the Challenge of Religion. This is unique because it's learning how to read Simone Weil from some of her closest readers and those she influenced, including poets and writers such as Adrienne Rich, Denise Levertov, and Annie Dillard.About Cynthia WallaceCynthia Wallace is Associate Professor of English at St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan, and author of The Literary Afterlives of Simone Weil: Feminism, Justice, and the Challenge of Religion, as well as **Of Women Borne: A Literary Ethics of Suffering.About Simone WeilSimone Weil (1909–1943) was a French philosopher, mystic, and political activist. Today I'm talking about Venmo moms, volunteer moms and everything in between. If you haven't heard of a “Venmo mom”, it's a term that's been going around on TikTok and Instagram lately. Essentially, a Venmo mom is someone who isn't really interested in being a hands-on volunteer with their kid's school, team, etc. They wanna just send some money to support those programs. You'll Learn:Why Venmo moms and volunteer moms may not be so different from each otherThe good, bad and ugly of volunteeringWhy there's so much mama drama, especially in the elementary school yearsHow to start showing up as whatever kind of mom you want to beIn my opinion, one is not better than the other, but we can learn something from both approaches.---------------------------Venmo MomsI recently saw a TikTok from @nealfamilychaos, who was talking about how she doesn't want to do all the hands-on stuff, but when she just sends cash, she feels judged by other parents who volunteer a lot. She said, “I don't want to be on PTO, PTA, room mom, team mom. I don't want to do any of that.” And she said that she feels really stressed when they start asking for volunteers. Her video went viral, and there were a lot of comments from other moms who felt the same way. Even moms who do volunteer shared how much they appreciate the moms who send in money. There's a place for everyone. It's easy to compare yourself to other moms and to judge yourself or think that other people are judging you. But the truth is that there are so many ways to be a mom, and we all have different capacities and amounts of time, energy and money. I love this TikTok mom for owning her own story and reality. She's okay with who she is and the way she's willing (and not willing) to contribute. You can let your no be no - No, thank you. I'm not interested. I'm not available. I'm not open to volunteering this year. That's not gonna work for me. And just let that be okay. You're doing your best. You're doing what is right for your family, what works for your kids or you or your finances or your time or your energy. You don't owe anyone an explanation. Volunteer MomsThere are benefits to being involved, on the inside and having some influence, but it can also come with a lot of demands, pressure and time. I've been the volunteer mom at certain stages. The first year my oldest son was in elementary school, I really didn't know anything about our Parent Faculty Association, and I didn't want to do anything. Over time, I started to get more involved. I became a room parent, started to take on some leadership roles and eventually became the president of our PFA. There's a lot of unpaid labor in the mom world, and this video really made me think about all the things we're paying for - either with our money, our time or both. It brought up some questions for me that you can use to determine where you want your time, energy and dollars to go. Is it necessary? Maybe we don't actually need to be doing all this stuff for our kids. Maybe we don't need a special treat after every soccer game. Some of the things that have become expected or the norm really might not be necessary at all. And by overparenting, we're creating too much work for ourselves. How can we distribute the workload? Of course, some things are necessary. It's not fair for the stay-at-home parent or the primary parent to be giving all of their time and energy to the school. It's a huge sacrifice. Can we outsource or do things in a different way that puts less burden on...

In a dharma talk on working with thoughts and emotions, Joseph Goldstein explains the impersonal and empty nature of the mind. This episode is brought to you by BetterHelp. Give online therapy a try at betterhelp.com/insighthour and get on your way to being your best self. This week on Insight Hour, Joseph Goldstein teaches us about: Observing how mind states and thoughts mutually condition each otherThe way that thoughts carry us away into different emotional statesLooking at the direct nature and meaning of thoughtNoticing the difference between being lost and being awakeViewing our thoughts just as they ariseNot overthinking and focusing on the simplicity of a practiceThe six things that are ever arising or passing: our sensesMaintaining open awareness and experiencing the flow“Well, what is a thought? It's quite remarkable because when we look at that level, not on the level of the story or the content, but thought as a phenomenon, we see that it is barely more than nothing. It is so phenomenal. These thoughts arise, and the content can be so compelling, but as a phenomenon, as the nature of thought, it's just this little energy blip in the mind. If we're not getting hooked by the content, it has no power at all.” – Joseph GoldsteinThis 2019 dharma talk from Insight Meditation Society was originally published by DharmaseedSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Base creator Jesse Pollak argues that much cheaper Layer 2 transactions, as well as other developments, will enable the creation of multitudes of specialized Layer 3s that are deeply connected to the onchain economy. Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Fountain, Overcast, Podcast Addict, Pocket Casts, Castbox, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, or on your favorite podcast platform.Ethereum's long-awaited Dencun upgrade finally went live this week, and many L2s immediately saw their transaction fees fall dramatically, as was the intention. Among them was the Coinbase-incubated Base, which was created by Jesse Pollak. To have deeply fulfilling relationships requires that we bring our A-game when it comes to being sensitive to how we impact each other and to bring care when we negatively impact one another. If we are not conscious enough to recognize when we're having unintended negative impacts on other people or we are not self-aware enough to acknowledge when we've been negatively impacted by someone else, we are playing a rookie game when it comes to relationships. In this episode, Krista is recording solo, and details what she's learned about the impact of awareness to keep her relationships as clean, clear, and connected as possible. This includes turning conscious and subconscious burdens into (harder) conversations, two conversation frameworks for addressing and cleaning up negative impact, and tips around feedback and conversation consent.Krista also shares that sometimes even the most prepared for conversations falter. In those moments, compassion for both you and your partnership is imperative, as is a learning mindset, so we can get stronger as a couple every time we navigate a tender or challenging conversation. “We can do more than I can” is an evolution to get better and learn how to love, respect, and care for each other even more. SummaryHow does a climate change activist movement such as Extinction Rebellion (XR) chose among strategies and tactics on the spectrum between more 'radical' actions such as civic agitation, (nonviolent) disobedience, high-profile stunts that may lead to arrests and more 'mainstream' actions that may (or may not?) help them build a more broad public base? How does Extinction Rebellion (XR) see the distinction between insider and outsider strategies in climate change activism? Is it necessarily the case that 'radical 'activism by nature is cyclical, i.e. that it cannot be maintained on a long-term basis because of the intensity of this activism model? And how does Extinction Rebellion deal with internal as well as external equity dimensions of the fact that low-income people and/or those who face discrimination tend to get hit harder by the impacts of climate change? In this NGO Soul+Strategy podcast episode, I interview Coos van Est, a young Extinction Rebellion activist in the Netherlands (my original home country), on how she sees Extinction Rebellion tackle all these choices and trade-offs. Bio of Coos:Coos is a student at Erasmus University College, Rotterdam, the Netherlands She's been involved with XR since her high school, but more intensively so for the last year or so, for about 0.5 -1 day a weekCoos happens to be part of my extended family - and I am very proud of how she embodies engaged citizenship! We discuss: How climate change fights and climate justice issues need to be interlinked to both benefit from sustained civic actionThe nature of the three global XR demands: 1/ Tell the Truth; /2. Act Now; 3/ Decide togetherHow environmental activism in the global south has a history of white elite-level advantage, how it rightfully has been critiqued for suffering from white elitism and how it is now trying to overcome this by focusing on embracing everybody's contribution and being expressly inclusiveClimate change requires both civil disobedience and broad public support. Collaboration between social movements such as Extinction Rebellion (XR) and formally registered NGOs is therefore importantGroups like Greenpeace are better than XR at drawing in the media, examples such as the Netherlands NGO Milieu Defensie (Environmental Defense) are good in online petitioning, while movements like XR are good in mass mobilization. They need to complement each otherThe sustainability of engagement in XR-type activism, with its typical peak-type activities, fairly time-intensive forms of self-organization and democratic decision making styles may be challenged; XR expressly tries to compensate for this through encouraging collective self-care Resources:Instagram Extinction Rebellion (XR) account:@xr.rotterdam (local account of XR in Rotterdam, the Netherlands)@extinctionrebellionnl (national account of XR in the Netherlands)XR's Twitter handles:@XR_Rotterdam (local account of XR in Rotterdam, the Netherlands)@NLRebellion (national account of XR in the Netherlands)An example of media analysis of the efficacy of ‘radical' climate change activism and its trade-offs:
Let me tell you a little secret… I dislike the word manifestation so much. It isn't because I don't believe that manifestation is possible, but it is because I find far too often it is over simplified and used as an easy excuse to side-step doing deep work. So, when I met Sara Rae Hoaglund and heard her talk about the contradictions, the work and the mindfulness that is required for manifestation, I knew she was the person to bring this discussion to The Mindful Minute. In this episode, Sara Rae and I chat about:What manifestation is and is notWorking with your energetic blueprintShadow workThe law of attraction, the law of detachment, and the hidden contradiction thereinHow mindfulness and manifestation support each otherThe difference between goal-setting and manifestationWhat happens when you work with a manifestation coachAt the end, Sara Rae guides a short cleansing ritual that you can use as often as you need while setting your own manifestation intentions. We homo sapiens sapiens are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” but why? What's so special about being human? What makes us unique? And can we equate our uniqueness in the world with the Imago Dei? Experimental psychologist and cognitive scientist Justin Barrett joins Evan Rosa to discuss the image of God as a blueprint for each of us as individuals; human uniqueness as a theological and psychological category; the place of homo sapiens among other species; uniquely human capacities, such as executive function, hypersociality, and acquisition of specialized knowledge; the human biological niche construction—or changing the environment—and how our psychological traits factor; the psychological and biological underpinnings of human culture and the problem of creating cities; and how human technology interacts with our biological niche. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.Genesis 1:1-3126 Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.' 27 So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.28 God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.' 29 God said, ‘See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.' And it was so. 31 God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. Do you want to know more about accessing your intuition? This episode is about using your intuition as a powerful insight to know what to do next and how to work with the energy of Saturn to overcome obstacles. Join us to learn more!I'm joined by my friend, mentor, and client, Dr. Robert Svoboda. He is an expert in his knowledge of the Vedic sciences from the traditional Indian teachings, and it is an honor to have him on today's show to teach us about working with Saturn. He wrote The Greatness of Saturn, a book I highly recommend if you want to understand your obstacles, triggers, and things that keep you from rising to your highest potential. As the planet that holds and unfolds our karma, Saturn is an important planet to understand. Show Highlights:Why Saturn is the planet we should pay attention to more than any otherThe qualities of Saturn and its effect on usHow Saturn does not encourage quick gratification because of its remoteness, separation, isolation, dissatisfaction, and slownessHow Saturn rules old age, sickness, and deathHow Saturn has positive qualities that can be accessed when we understand discipline and impulse controlWhy Saturn brings a satisfaction that comes gradually—and not a quick and temporary gratificationHow Saturn strips away our desires and helps us see what really mattersHow Saturn helps us see what we are supposed to do in the world–and what we are not supposed to doHow Saturn teaches us to be quiet and calm, enduring what needs to be endured (as we endure, we purify our karmic reality and have better and clearer awareness)How Saturn helps us navigate obstacles, clear space, and learn to be of serviceHow Saturn helps us clarify the right goals for alignment with our dharmaHow we can tune into our intuition to know what to do, with Saturn's helpKey takeaways: “When working with Saturn, we have to be calm and patient, knowing when to rest and how to cultivate our intuition. We have to be willing to change our course and always start slowly when we attempt something new.”Resources and Links:Connect with Dr. Svoboda: WebsiteBook mentioned: The Greatness of Saturn by Dr. Robert SvobodaPrevious podcast episodes with Dr. Svoboda: 57: Reality, Karma and Money and 13: Living Your Dharma and the Indian SciencesGet more info about the 2023 Vibrancy Retreat, an astrology and ayurveda retreat to rejuvenate, go deep into your personal astrology, and plan together for the year ahead. Ah-Has“There's so much that needs to be done, so much change that needs to happen. How will we ever do it? And then I step back and it's like, one Nurse at a time, one situation at a time, one ripple will start making that change. And then it doesn't seem so overwhelming, I think.” ~Karen Day, MSN, RN, NC-BC We can make change, one Nurse at a time, one situation at a timeOur younger Nurses are training younger Nurses as preceptors, teachers, and mentors. Many of them don't have lots of experience. How can we support them with more grace, acceptance and resourcesNursing needs to create a culture shift to truly support each other without judgement. We can do this by honoring our past, learning from it, acknowledging it and shifting towards more self-care, resources, and each otherThe pressure of perfection does not always support us and can be a pathway to burnout, and Nurses leaving the professionCreating sacred spaces, where anything goes, where anything can be said, where it is safe to share and discuss. Your Enneagram wings are like the bookends that hold together the core of who you truly are, reflecting the Divine's design for you — before the world came and kicked you in the teeth. That's right! But so many people get it wrong. Sometimes people say they are something like a 3w4 or a 5w6. But that's different from how it works. In addition to your core type, your wings are essential to the Enneagram framework. We dream of flying and soaring to all the places we desire and deserve, and we're even willing to put in the work. Just like an airplane or a bird with only one wing, if you aren't using both wings, you won't get off the ground, you'll end up going in circles, or ultimately, you'll just be stuck. But unlike understanding your core Enneagram type, understanding, and using your wings will take a bit more study and work. So how can you use your wings to ensure you use your gifts to the greatest capacity? Today, on "Lead With The Enneagram," I will share how understanding the wings in the Enneagram framework can help us integrate our core type's gifts and build confidence through consistent practice.Listen in as I share how knowing people who are your Enneagram wing types can help you identify and appreciate their unique gifts and qualities.Plus, I'll walk you through an analogy using Tom Cruise's character Maverick from “Top Gun” to help this powerful concept take flight for you! To truly understand and benefit from the Enneagram, accurate information is crucial. Online Enneagram assessments can lead people to assume incorrect Enneagram types and wings. Sifting down behind the cultural myth of man as separate, Alan explores how we are all actually Earth, the Universe, and the Big Bang.In this episode of Being in the Way, Alan takes us on a journey from childhood to adulthood, highlighting how we are trained into separation from a young age, and forced to focus on the never-arriving “future,” rather than being present in the moment. Through this lens, he further spelunks the “hoax of man” and offers insight into how this sense of ego identity creates tension and frustration.Today's podcast is sponsored by BetterHelp. To this day, investor, founder and dreammaker, Bing Chen fondly recalls his first big-screen experience. It was “Beauty and the Beast” and the movie, along with the Disney brand magic to make dreams come true, have inspired Chen's own prolific suite of businesses: AU Holdings, a family of companies that incubates and invests in creators; Gold House, a collective of multicultural leaders who bring equity to multicultural communities through strategic investment and promotion; and Aum Group, a premier multicultural film fund. True to this era's version of dream-making, Chen's early career at YouTube was to develop and market online creators–and he has gone on to build influential audiences and support global feature films. In this episode you'll learn:The hardest thing in the world is to be a digital creatorIf you have a platform, you have a responsibilityLet your managers run their own teams but align around strategy and run air-cover for each otherThe difference between achieving success and being truly successful is relentlessnessBrought to you by Mekanism.

Book Vs. Movie: The Joy Luck ClubAmy Tan's 1989 Novel Vs the 1993 Wayne Wang FilmTo finish out AAPI month the Margos talk about Amy Tan and her debut novel The Joy Luck Club which became a sensation when it was released in the late 1980s. The Oakland, California native was raised by Chinese immigrant parents who instilled a strong ethic in her and wanted her to take advantage of being an American while remaining Chinese in her heart and actions. Tan found this very tough, especially after her father & brother died and she wound up in Switzerland at the age of 15. We talk about Tan's teenage years and her strained relationship with her mother which later became fodder for her first novel. In 1989 the hardcover book sold over 275, 000 copies, and the paperback rights went for $1.2 million. It was just a matter of time to get the book adapted into a film. The Joy Luck Club is the story of four immigrant families who are all based in San Francisco with the daughters struggling to emotionally connect with their strict mothers. The women are complex and have many secrets between them that go all the way back to their time in China. Each has a story about why they wanted to come to America and how challenging it is to raise a child in a new culture while retaining your principles and values. The film was directed by Wayne Wang who hired the best Asian actors in the business to play the Chinese American cast. The film was highly successful but it was still decades before an all Asain cast had a hit film in America (Crazy Rich Asians.) There were several differences between the novel which had eight different stories to tell and the movie which has just over an hour and 30 minutes run time. So between the two, which did we like more? The book or the movie? In this ep the Margos discuss:Amy Tan's background and the inspiration for her bookThe different women in China and San Francisco and how they all relate to each otherThe changes between the novel and the 1993 movieThe cast: Rosalind Chao (Rose,) Lauren Tom (Lena,) Tamlyn Tomita (Waverly,) Ming-Na Wen (June,) Tsai Chin (Lindo,) Kieu Chinh (Suyann,) Lisa Lu (An-Mei,) France Nuyen (Ying-Ying,) Andrew McCarthy (Ted,) Christopher Rich (Rich,) Michael Paul Chan (Harold,) and Russell Wong (Lin Xiao.)
