This week, we enjoy a conversation with a gardener and garden guru well- known and loved: Joe Lamp'l of the famed and award-winning Growing a Greener World on PBS and The ‘joe gardener' Show podcast. Growing a Greener World is not just a show name but a nearly life-long mission for Joe. While he is known for his organic vegetable gardening knowledge and advocacy, Joe likewise loves the wilder side of his place in the world and ecological function is a top priority along with his human garden community. And at the end of the day, Joe is a lot like all of us: he just loves playing in the dirt with his plant friends. In our ongoing exploration into who gardeners are, where gardeners are, and what they are growing in this world, Joe Lamp'l joins Cultivating Place to share more about his garden life – and how he enhances ours—the rest of us “joe gardeners.” Enjoy! Cultivating Place now has a donate button! We thank you so much for listening over the years and we hope you'll support Cultivating Place. Organic gardening is such a beautiful idea-- who *doesn't* love the idea of a chemical-free, all-natural growing space?? Unfortunately, sometimes growing the natural way is easier said than done, especially when you're dealing with loads of weeds and pests. I'm joined by organic gardening guru Joe Lamp'l today. Becoming a successful vegetable gardener involves a lot of trial and error. As the seasons pass we hopefully get better at it—harvesting not just food for the table, but food for thought too, insights gleaned along the way to guide us to improved outcomes in subsequent growing seasons. I don't know many more passionate vegetable gardeners than Joe Lamp'l, who has gathered what he's learned in decades of growing his own food into a new book filled with advice for the rest of us.  Joe Lamp'l is the creator of the long-running public television program, “Growing a Greener World,” and of the popular “Joe Gardener” podcast. Now he's also author of the new book called “The Vegetable Gardening Book: Your Complete Guide to Growing an Edible Organic Garden from Seed to Harvest.” It covers all that he's learned from bountiful seasons, and from some tough ones, too, along the way.

Joe Lamp'l – from “Joe Gardener” fame – is America's gardener.  Given that his public television show Growing a Greener World is shown in 38 countries, Joe is more appropriately the WORLD's gardener.  He has an illustrious, long career spanning television, print, podcasting, and video content.  Above all, Joe is an educator – his gardening passion is infectious, and his communication ability to make challenging concepts simple is a strength.  He has taken this to the masses in his Online Gardening Academy, offering a growing (pun intended) curriculum of classes available to the public at affordable prices.  In this episode, we cover a range of topics, but our focus is on raised beds – from the “why” to the “how”.  Joe's content can be found at: Podcast: joegardener.com/podcasts,  Apple Podcasts,  Spotify Videos: joegardener.com/videos,  YouTube Blog:  joegardener.com/blog Growing a Greener World PBS show: growingagreenerworld.com Lastest Book: The Vegetable Gardening Book   Joe's Online Gardening Academy (online classes) can be found at: organicgardeningacademy.com   Joe's social media can be found at: Facebook: @joegardener Twitter: @joegardener Instagram: @joegardener Pinterest: @joegardener To ask questions for future FPGH shows, submit them at: Facebook Instagram email Marlene at marlenetheplantlady@gmail.com   Find Marlene over on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook
