In a quiet English town, 13-year-old Billie Jo Jenkins was brutally murdered on the porch of her foster home. Her foster father, Sion Jenkins, was convicted of the crime, but after two retrials, he was acquitted in 2006 - leaving one of the UK's most notorious murders unsolved. Despite his acquittal, the jury never delivered a ‘not guilty' verdict, making this case even more perplexing. Professor Adrian Linacre is a forensic blood spatter expert, who's worked on hundreds of cases across the world, including the Billie Jo Jenkins murder investigation. In this episode, uncover the twists and turns in this highly controversial case, go inside the courtroom drama, and unravel the delicate balance between forensic science and justice. On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and Jim Moore start off Friday's show chatting with TroyWins.com about this week's upcoming college football and NFL games. After Troy departs giving his picks, Puck and Jim discuss the interview that Mariners owner John Stanton gave to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Puck and Jim called the interview unacceptable because Stanton is only making himself available on a team controlled site. Stanton didn't really answer anything of note and Puck and Jim can't understand why the team doesn't truly get the frustration of their fans. They spend nearly an hour breaking down the interview and just keep shaking their head why they and so many people still love the team, because this group makes it real hard. They wrap it up with Friday VOICEMAILS, and they introduce a new character…Hugh Millen! Chris Egan, KING 5, joins the show for his weekly visit and they start off with the great Billy Joe Hobert and the fact that he will be at the Husky game on Saturday against Michigan as their legend of the game. Chris gives an hilarious Keith Jackson impersonation of Billy Joe. he was a misunderstood player, and it's good to see the Huskies bring him back into the fold. Chris is off to cover Jackson and Kamiak for the Big Game of the Week and tells the inspiring story of Will Turpin, a young man battling cancer. Egan weighs in on his prediction for the Husky game and they laugh about the QB legacy at Puyallup High School and whey weren't there more Huard's??Finally, Puck wraps up the show with, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Couldn't have asked for a better start to the Seahawks season after the first month. Ton of credit goes to Mike Macdonald. Rundown00:00 Puck and Jim jump right into our gambling picks with their handicapper, TroyWins and picking the top games in college football and the NFL 29:44 Puck and Jim breakdown the comments from Mariners owner John Stanton to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Puck and Jim can't understand the disconnect between ownership and their fanbase. Stanton is in love with Jerry Dipoto and he can't see the mistakes in front of his face. Claims Mariners are a mid-market team despite the Forbes valuation. They cry poor when they are actually one of the most profitable teams. 01:09:10 Friday VOICEMAILS…New character, Hugh Millen! 01:17:04 Chris Egan, KING 5….Appreciating Billy Joe Hobert. In 2004, Green Day were in a bit of an existential crisis. It had been a decade since Dookie went Diamond in the US and platinum around the world and their appearance at Woodstock 94 helped propel them to one of the biggest bands of their generation. And while big hits and successful tours followed throughout the 90s, I can understand that it's hard to find things to rebel against when your rich and famous. Their 2000 album Warning didn't light the world on fire and then their next attempt at a new album was scuttled once the master tapes were stolen. It would have been easy for Green Day to call it day at that point. However, Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool decided to create a concept album that points out the lies and perils associated with chasing the American Dream against the backdrop of a neo-conservative government leading us into wars without justification. It follows the story of a young man from suburbia who wants out but finds that his dream of the big city is fraught with peril. And through all his trials and tribulations he manages to find love and the realization that maybe all wasn't so bad back in his hometown. But just because it's a concept album doesn't mean it's without radio friendly hits as it boasts chart toppers like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, and The Wolf's favorite - Holiday. They have prog-like nine minute epics with different pieces which would rival those of YES and incredibly brilliant lyrics from Billy Joe against some of the best riffs of the era. No matter your side of the political spectrum, American Idiot will grab you sonically and then pull you in with intelligent lyrics that reflected what America was becoming and warning about things we see coming to pass today. It's an amazing album from a time when rock bands weren't given much press but Green Day still managed to not only make their masterpiece but have it celebrated all over the world. “GONE” - JOEY HEATHERTON (MGM, 1972)It all started with a friendly competition. We had just done an episode about my early crush Bobby Gentry and her iconic “Ode to Billy Joe”. Rich does a counterpunch here with a tribute to his own teen heartthrob, the pulchritudinous Joey Heatherton, daughter of Ray “The Merry Mailman” - a host of one of our after-school staples of kid's programming. When Rich is passionate about something I just have to stand back and let him rhapsodize, and here his eloquence is in top form. Later, as the story turns to a darker hue, he reveals that he actually had met his teen idol - his once forbidden love (because of her support for the Viet Nam war, which he opposed) - that had now come full circle, and could be expressed openly.
On hour 2 of the Big Show, George and Matt are joined by a member of our radio family at our building! Billy Joe from STAR 95.9 joins the guys for a chat while on the Stampede Parade Route!(12:06) To wrap the hour, Frank Seravalli joins the program to discuss the Fallout of free agency. Frank gives his thoughts on some of the names that are still on the UFA board, which contracts could be considered a bad contract already, if the Oilers got better after some of the moves they have made, the latest on Leon Draisaitl negotiations, if no tax states have an unfair competitive advantage and more! The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Media Inc. or any affiliate.
During the Billy Joe Era a major point of contention was his use of transfer players to beef up the roster. But those players often proved to be the catalyst for the success of the Gulf Coast Offense era. What was controversial in those times has proven to be the catalyst for success and a necessary part of most successful programs. But I definitely wonder if Billy Joe who proved to be a trailblazer would have been given the opportunity to use transfers in the same way the Simmons & Colzie have? #FAMU #FangsUp #HBCU #HBCUdigital --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fangsup/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fangsup/support

We start by watching a litle AMC & Rambo II. Kroshus comes in hot with some Reagan era resentment of the war culture of 80's movies, and the shadow the Vietnam war cast on worldwide culture in general. Then we shake it up with a different kind of violence and we flick over to SYFY for 1994's True Lies. Tia Carrere was in full post Waynes World glory. We watch a little News about The Japan Airlines runway collision and earthquake. Then We watch footage of the Alaske Airlines plane door ripping away mid air. Then it's some sports talk. Mike Vrabel fired! What does Keith want the Bears to do with the 1st overall pick? Then we preveiw some TV historey with a 1992 College football game between Wisconsin and Ohio State and Kroshus talks his time at the school during Barry Alvarezes arrival. Coming out of the music break we make fun of some Hallmark channel and talk generational politics. Which is exactly what Hallmark movies should do.... Then we Start our Journey through the TV of 1992 with the 1992 Rose Bowl game between Washingtoin and Michigan. We talk second rate cop shows of the time, 90s stats, QB's named Billy Joe, and Bud Dry. George HW Bush pukes on himself!!! and we close with a January 12th Sports reportewrs type show from Minnesota. Kro talks Current and past Vikings stuff. All this and so much more!!!!!!! keithpaesel.com for all the episodes!!!

Book Vs. Movie: Ode to Billy JoeThe 1967 Song Vs. the 1976 Movie It was a hot and steamy summer day when we recorded this episode, so we decided to go as far south as we could get here in the USA with the tale of Billie Joe Macallister (named Billy Joe for the movie adaptation) and why he may have jumped to his death off the Tallahacthie Bridge. Mississippi native Bobbie Gentry wrote the song in 1967 for her first album, and it became a huge sensation. The song is written from the viewpoint of the narrator, a young girl who knew Billie Joe but did not say if she is privy to why he died the way he did. How did she know him, and what did they throw from the bridge? These are still asked of the singer, but she kept it opaque. (She is also a recluse who never gives interviews, though she is considered a legend in country music. The film was produced and directed by Max Baer, Jr. and written by Herman Racuher (of Summer of ‘42 fame ), who spoke privately with Gentry about the path he wanted to take fleshing out the story. It stars Robby Benson as a sexually confused young man who pursues teenage Bobbie Lee (Glynnis O'Connor.) The film was a massive hit in 1976, and if you check the IMDB and Reddit boards, you will still find people unsure of “what” was going on with Billy Joe that day. So, what are the main differences between the song and the film? Which version did the Margos like better? Have a listen! In this ep, the Margos discuss:Bobbie Gentry's career and the long-lasting effect of the song's success.Theories about the characters of the songThe cast of the 1976 film: Robby Benson (Billy Joe McAllister ), Glynnis O'Connor (Bobbie Lee Hartley ), Joan Hotchkis (Mrs. Hartely), Sandy McPeak (Papa,) James Best (Dewey Barksdale ), Terence Goodman (James Hartley,) and Becky Bowen as Becky Thompson.Clips used:Bobbie Gentry (1967 Andy Williams special)Ode to Billy Joe (1976 trailer)Billy Joe meets Bobbie's parentsBobbie Lee and Billy Joe have a dateCrazy Mississippi partyBilly Joe confesses his “sin”Bobbie Lee leaves townBook Vs. I have seen friends walk away from relationships, jobs, and promising careers when all they really needed was some time and space to gather their thoughts, slow their heart rate, and rediscover their joy. I'm not saying you should always, “hang on one more day at a time and wait for things to get better.” I am saying you need to recognize the changing seasons in your life. Bobbie Gentry knew when it was time to stop, turn the page, and begin a new chapter. Bobbie knocked the Beatles off the #1 spot on the music charts with “Ode to Billy Joe,” a song that she wrote, performed, and produced. She won Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards. Eleven more of her songs made the music charts. She was a major headline act in Las Vegas and she co-hosted a successful TV series with country music superstar Glen Campbell. America watched as Bobbie Gentry provided the music for a major motion picture about her imaginary Billie Joe McAllister, then performed “Mama, a Rainbow” for her mother who was seated in the studio during the filming of a television special. The next day, Bobby quietly retired from the spotlight without fanfare, returning no phone calls, answering no letters, and granting no interviews. She had been in the spotlight for 14 years when she whispered, “Enough,” and walked away 41 years ago. What triggered it? Nothing. She simply realized that a season in her life had ended. Solomon spoke famously about the seasons of life in the third chapter of Ecclesiastes:There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. … He has made everything beautiful in its time. … I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. One can think of the seasons of life in a few different ways.Financially, we go from survival to acquisition to distribution. Relationally, we go from seeking, to finding, to celebrating. In business, we go from learner, to doer, to teacher. This is essentially the Hero's Journey, a sequence of events that is nearly impossible to escape: 1. We meet the Hero in modest circumstances. 2. He encounters the Call to Adventure. 3. He meets the Old Man in the Woods who prepares him for what lies ahead. 4. He then rises to the challenge of adventure and discovers abilities within himself he didn't know were there. In the Bible we see Moses, Joseph, Samson, David and many others, including women such as Hannah, Esther, Abigail, Ruth, and Deborah as they encounter the Hero's Journey. In literature and in the movies, we see Bilbo in The Hobbit, Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, Daniel LaRusso in The Karate Kid, Simba in The Lion King, Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Neo in The Matrix, and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Luke was just a goober on the backwater planet of Tatooine when he was called to adventure. Obi-Wan Kenobi was the Old Man in the Woods who prepared him for his journey. Luke was again a goober with a wrecked spaceship in a swamp on Dagobah when he encountered Yoda, his second Old Man in the Woods who would prepare him for his second adventure. Which Luke Skywalker are you?Are you...
A strange twist on a ballad that was popular in the 1960's. What if its True?
