Her Peer Kept Misattributing Statements to Her Team. She Let It Slide Once. The Second Time She Confronted Her Directly. She had a verbal offer within four days. They were eager. Before she accepted, she called HR and said: "Before I accept, I want to speak with my manager's manager." That request could have cost her the role entirely. She had already weighed it: if they say no, that tells me everything I need to know about this culture. If they say yes, I make a more informed decision. Within 24 hours, the executive cleared his calendar during a conference lunch and took a 30-minute call. He opened with: "What questions do you have for me?" She asked everything. She took the job. Saadia is Global Chief Information and Technology Officer at Coverys, a medical liability company, with 20 years of IT experience across multiple Fortune 100 companies. In this episode, she walks through the specific moments in her career where courage was required — and exactly how she built it. You'll learn: Her peer kept misattributing statements to her and her team in leadership meetings. She let the first incident slide. The second time, she requested a direct conversation: "This is what I heard. You were named as having stated this. Can you explain why?" The peer was speechless. Saadia set a clear expectation for next time — and never had the problem again. How she built a two-year disagreement relationship with a boss who actually respected being challenged: listen first before responding, don't feel obligated to disagree on the spot, return with facts, and always explain your thought process rather than just your conclusion. The career pivot her mentor pushed her into: leave IT entirely — her entire professional identity — and take a business strategy role with a Chief Marketing Officer. She lost her direct reports and became an individual contributor. Her biggest fear: disrupt her tech trajectory and never get back. Her mentor's answer: "Try it. If you don't like it, come back." She did it for two years, returned to IT as an executive, and credits that pivot for how she now thinks about strategy, stakeholders, and technology implementation. Why she stopped procrastinating in meetings after watching male peers say her exact ideas out loud and get the credit. The mindset that unlocked it: "I am in this room for a reason, and so is everyone else. Equal footing." Think you're the smartest: you stop listening. Think you're the worst: you stop speaking. Find the middle. Her direct advice on bias: keep an eye on how your ideas and voice are treated from day one. You will know quickly whether biases exist. Your manager and your peers are the most critical variables. If your manager has bias toward you, it will not work. Find a leader who respects what you bring, not just who you are. Why she proves herself to herself rather than to others — and why she has watched other women leaders make flawed decisions every time they shifted into "proving to others" mode. The skip-level coffee chat practice she has run for four years: meets individual contributors without their managers, no script, asks what challenges they are facing, never names names when sharing themes upward. The trust it builds has changed how her organization speaks up. About Saadia: Global Chief Information and Technology Officer at Coverys, a medical liability company. Saadia has 20 years of IT leadership experience across multiple Fortune 100 companies and is a recognized voice on courage, leadership, and building speak-up cultures in technology organizations.

Meet the CIO is brought to you by NTT DATA -- Johnson Idesoh, group chief information and technology officer at Absa, says AI in all its forms – generative, agentic and the AI now being wielded by cybercriminals – is the single biggest topic on his desk, but cautions that it remains a tool that has to be tied directly to business strategy and customer outcomes to deliver value. Speaking on TechCentral's Meet the CIO podcast series, brought to you by NTT DATA, Idesoh said AI is maturing rapidly into heavily regulated industries such as financial services, and that banks must use the same technology to counter adversaries who are themselves deploying it. Idesoh has held senior technology leadership roles across several large organisations, including group CIO at Old Mutual and leadership positions at insurer Aviva and pharmaceutical group AstraZeneca, before joining Absa as group CTO. In the interview, Idesoh unpacks the thinking behind Absa's R2.4-billion software impairment in its 2025 financial year – a 13-fold increase on the prior year's write-off – explaining that it was driven not by a single large asset but by more than 100 smaller ones, and reflected three things: • A fundamental shift in group strategy under new group CEO Kenny Fihla towards a Pan-African, client-led model; • A changing regulatory regime; and • The accelerating pace of technological change in AI, data and cybersecurity. He also reflects on how banking technology has evolved – from the water-cooled mainframes of the 1990s to today's far smaller IBM z16 machines and the move towards cloud and service-based consumption – and why the real challenge is not the mainframe itself but the decades-old Cobol software paradigms still running on it. Listen to the interview Idesoh also discusses: • The noise around Anthropic's “Mythos” model and what AI-driven vulnerability discovery means for bank cybersecurity, arguing that organisations should not panic but must become adept at using AI to find and remediate vulnerabilities at speed; • Whether such models should be released to the public immediately or to large institutions first; the impact of AI on software development jobs, and his view that the traditional junior-to-senior developer pyramid may give way to apprenticeship-style models; • How Absa is encouraging its technology talent to keep pace through leadership, early-adopter advocates and gamified celebration of new skills; • The bank's deployment of agentic AI, including its customer-facing AI agent and an internal IT-support agent that has handled queries from 11 000 colleagues with a 90% resolution rate; and • His own path into technology, from an aspiring airline pilot who realised aircraft were becoming “flying computers” to a career that began on a BBC Micro. Don't miss any of the other great interviews on TechCentral's Meet the CIO. TechCentral

Send us a textA city this generous doesn't just welcome you—it hands you a map and dares you to follow your curiosity. We land in San Diego on a points ticket, grab a budget Turo with unlimited miles, and set off to turn the weekend into a living treasure hunt built around a geocaching block party called “Signal's Island.” From push-scootering through Balboa Park's Spanish Revival plazas and the new Comic-Con Museum to logging Adventure Labs woven into art, gardens, and a towering zoo statue, the day unfolds with pace and purpose. The coast ups the stakes. In La Jolla, a sunrise sea-kayak tour becomes a geology lesson as we bounce through surf, trace a fault line between limestone and harder rock, and make the call to skip churning cave mouths—then pivot to Sunny Jim Sea Cave via a hidden staircase inside a rock shop. That same spirit of play leads to a rare webcam cache on a tide-lashed pier and to a plate of ocean-fresh fish tacos at Duke's, where the view is pure Pacific. Community fuels the journey: we swap stories at a beach bonfire welcome, run into TV producer Dave Barsky, and hear that Mike Rowe listened to our Dirty Jobs episode and loved it.San Diego's Navy roots open a pop-culture loop. We eat barbecue at the Kansas City Barbecue—the Top Gun bar where Goose pounded “Great Balls of Fire”—and later chase a virtual cache at the restored Top Gun House in Oceanside, complete with a Kawasaki out front for that Maverick shot. The block party itself delivers real activities: gadget caches tied to Adventure Labs, a coconut cream pie contest, path tag left-right-center, and costume flair worthy of Gilligan's Island. Add an omakase-level meal at Sushi Ota and a CITO cleanup on Imperial Beach, and the weekend turns into a model for city adventures that blend exploration, service, and story.Ready to build your own San Diego treasure map—packed with geocaches, sea caves, pop-culture stops, and unforgettable bites? Wade “Cito” Lammar Wheelington III is living the dream of countless artists. The creator and driving force behind ShugoPro (meaning “Guardian Productions”), Cito has successfully merged his passion for American superheroes and Japanese culture into a thriving professional career. A recent feature on the Mostly Superheroes Podcast offered a deep dive into his journey, confirming him as one of the most exciting creators to watch in the world of independent manga and beyond. A Lifelong Love Affair with Art and Anime Cito's artistic path began in elementary school, fueled by a fascination with classic comic books and superheroes. This passion soon broadened to include an intense interest in Japanese culture, ignited by visits to the annual St. Louis Japanese Festival. It was here that he discovered and became captivated by anime and manga classics, specifically citing titles like Sailor Moon and Yu Yu Hakusho as major inspirations. His goal became singular and ambitious: to move to Japan and produce his own manga. He began studying the Japanese language in high school to pave the way. Education and Acclaim in Japan Cito transformed his dream into reality in 2012 when he moved to Japan. After initially furthering his language studies at the Nagano Kokusai Bunka Gakuin, he gained acceptance into the prestigious Tokyo Communication Arts Specialty School in 2014. There, he majored in Creative Design with a focus on honing his skills as a manga artist. His talent quickly stood out. During his time at the college, he won first place in the school's annual Manga Grand Prix. His work gained significant attention from the local media, being featured on three different Japanese television programs before his graduation in the spring of 2017. Current Projects: Love or Duty and Marvel Following his formal education, Cito has focused on bringing his original stories to life: Manga Success: Cito published his first short series, Blue Crisis Love, in 2016 while still a student. He is now heavily focused on his shoujo manga passion project, Love or Duty. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the complete 10-chapter first season was published in 2023 and is available digitally on Kindle. Cito confirmed that the highly anticipated Season 2 is currently halfway complete, promising more romance and action for his growing fanbase. The Isaiah Bradley Project: In a major potential development, Cito is also collaborating on "The Isaiah Bradley Project," a new endeavor with Marvel. This project aims to deliver an updated retelling of the original comic book Truth: Red, White & Black, which explores the backstory of Isaiah Bradley, the first Captain America prototype. The initiative is also set to include new merchandise, such as posters and hats, to accompany the production. Cito Wheelington III, through ShugoPro, continues to be a vibrant example of how dedication and a fusion of international influences can lead to creative success. Fans of manga and superhero lore alike should keep an eye on this talented artist as he takes on Season 2 of Love or Duty and, potentially, the Marvel Universe.
