It's time to visit a Disney world that can in no way come close to just how bizarre the movie it's based on is, the Country of Musketeers! Based on the 2004 direct to DVD animated movie Mickey, Goofy, and Donald: The Three Musketeers, this world makes us question many things, including the timeline of Mickey as a Keyblade master and how sleeping worlds even work. We continually fight our distractions and weeb sensibilities as we try to make sense of this absurd world we have found ourselves in. Goofy demonstrates his keenly honed mind for slapstick comedy by performing the most impractical yeeting that has ever yeeted.

This week, we continue Aqua's story in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep by going to the final Disney Worlds and Destiny Islands. Aqua now gets to meet Hercules, Stitch, and Peter Pan as she goes on the tour discovering she is late meeting Terra in all 3 worlds. We even have a run-in with Vanitas as we go into Destiny Islands to fill in those pesky gaps left in Kingdom Hearts 1. Also, anyone actually used the Keyblade that was given to you in Neverland?

This week, we reached the final Disney Worlds for Terra's story in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Olympus Colosseum and Neverland. Terra gets to meet Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII with Hades. Then, after visiting the world of Hercules, we go to the world of Neverland and fight against Peter Pan. Afterward, we go to Destiny Islands to witness the origins of Riku becoming a Keyblade wielder.

It's time for Terra's second speedrun of Disney worlds, with visits to Disneytown, Olympus Coliseum, Deep Space, and Neverland! In Disneytown we take our first dip in to Pete's backstory (and his secret history of playing both a heel and a face) along with Rumble Racing, the worst kart racer ever. In Olympus Coliseum, Hades is the next villain to pick up on the fact that Terra is an easy mark, but is disappointed when Terra doesn't really DO anything and so enlists Final Fantasy cameo Zack instead. In Deep Space, Terra befriends the ornery Experiment 626 and manages to see past Jumba Jookiba's admittedly weak deception skills. And in Neverland, Terra finally manages to get one up on his deceivers... but only after Hook tricks him in to fighting Peter Pan first.

It's the prologue to Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep! We discuss how the game works as usual, and then dive in to some scenes without much context before we get to meet our new trio of heroes, Ventus, Terra, and Aqua as we get the opening act to the tragedy that will recontextualize all we have seen thus far and set up the story that is to come.

Save Your Soul.” their diverging career paths (that eventually brought them together in the world of film, redefining success, and extreme spoiler countermeasures. Non so perchè e non so come mai una cosa banale come un videogioco possa incidersi così tanto nella testa di un ragazzo di 12 anni ma ricordo tutto.Ricordo lo spacchettamento della scatolina. Ricordo il libretto di istruzione in cinque lingue a colori. Ricordo la cutscene iniziale in computer grafica sul gameboy Advance che mi spaccò la mascella. Ricordo l’introduzione del gioco con le carte, sto Sora con la chiave, un Castello, un bordello. Ricordo che giocavo sul gameboy Advance bianco, regalatomi dalla nonna, sul tavolo sotto alla luce perchè non c’era lo schermo retroilluminato. Ricordo tutto del mio primo giorno con Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. Di quel piccolo amore che, nonostante tutto, ancora dimora dentro di me per l’intera saga di Kingdom Hearts.Fine anni ’90, Square osserva il successo di Mario 64 e capisce che ha bisogno anche lei di fare un gioco tridimensionale di quel calibro. Serve però un cast riconoscibile quanto quello di Ninendo.. un cast come quello Disney.Ma figurati se Disney accetterebbe mai una roba del genere… se non fosse che al tempo Square e Disney lavorano nello stesso palazzo e capita un giorno che Shinji Hashimoto, uno dei capi di Square nonché produttore di molti giochi, prende l’ascensore con un dirigente Disney e gli butta lì l’idea di fare un gioco che unisse i mondi Disney a quelli di final fantasy. Tetsuya Nomura viene messo a capo del progetto sotto la produzione di Hashimoto e di Kitase e nel 2002 esce il primo capitolo di Kingdom Hearts… il resto è storia.Sora, Riku e kairi sono 3 ragazzi che vivono alle Isole del destino, un piccolo arcipelago in mezzo al mare dove il tempo viene scandito tra giochi in spiaggia e sogni espressi al cielo finché una notte una violenta tempesta colpisce le isole, Riku viene attratto da una inspiegabile forza oscura, Kairi sparisce da qualche parte e Sora, il nostro protagonista, si ritrova catapultato nella Città di Mezzo, uno strano posto dove confluiscono le persone che si sono perse. Ha così inizio uno dei viaggi più intricato, a volte raffazzonato, spesso tirato per i capelli, diverse volte emozionante ma soprattutto dotato di un fascino pericoloso, ammaliante.Da questo punto si sviluppano le vicende di Sora e del Keyblade, di Kairi e delle 7 principesse, di Riku e del fascino dell’oscurità, di Ansem il cercatore dell’oscurità e della misteriosa organizzazione 13. Un viaggio composto da 12 videogiochi sparpagliati su tutte le piattaforme possibili e immaginabili, con 3 titoli numerati e 9 spin off, che di spin off però non hanno proprio nulla. Un viaggio che ha accompagnato una intera generazione, la mia, dal 2002 fino ad ora e che risulta ancora lontana dall’essere conclusa. Here at Video Game Grooves we are not above admitting our mistakes, and we do our best to rectify them. This episode we rectify the error of omission as Rozen comes back to the show after a "mea culpa" amount of time way back on Episode 21 when we were just a baby podcast. Well now as a bratty teenage podcast we slouch and kick a rock, and finally get him back on for you. To make up for lost time we are covering not one but two of his awesome vinyl releases. First up, Anthony returns us to that old Nier well with Nier: Glory to Mankind. Of course we talk about the music of Keiichi Okabe but also the dovetail with the "gravitas" of the Rozen+Reven adaptation, as well as the vocals on every single track, and what it takes to deliver on what Nier musically promises. Jeremy ends up humblebragging about the re-release variant he snagged. We continue with the more recent release of The Keyblade War, Rozen and vocalist Reven's adaptation of the inscrutably-storied Kingdom Hearts franchise, and whether it was easier or harder to match up with the iconic music of Yoko Shimomura. Everything has meaning in this release, and we get just a taste of that in our listening party today. We continue with the new releases and make a few harsh judgments over here and a few drooling hype statements over there... but ultimately we let you decide where to spend your money (links below as always) and we finally discuss the weird time-delayed climate of video game music on vinyl record, including some production insights from Rozen who also does some design work at Materia Collective, and he even pulls out the crystal ball for one or two predictions about what fans can expect in the future from the "hurry up and wait" situation we've been experiencing over the past year.
