The trial comes to an end.Last week, the prosecution brought the first wave of evidence against Super Mario Sunshine, arguing that one of Nintendo's most beloved GameCube games is guilty of crimes against the player experience. This week, court is back in session as the prosecution presents new exhibits, surprise witness testimony, and one final argument before the jury reaches a verdict. Can the defense convince the court that Sunshine deserves its place among Nintendo's classics, or will it be found guilty once and for all?Along the way, we also talk about what we've been playing, including The Legend of Korra, The Quarry, Keyboard Warrior, Swan Song, and more.Timecodes:00:00 - Start12:20 - Housekeeping15:08 - Recap: The Trial So Far17:17 - Housekeeping19:26 - Easy Mode: What We've Been Playing20:00 - Jerica Plays The Legend of Korra24:15 - Josh's Indie Game Roundup28:01 - Kayla Reviews The Quarry34:27 - Why Swan Song Is So Underrated36:56 - Court Is Back In Session38:55 - The Charges Against Super Mario Sunshine40:05 - The Defense's Opening Statement42:45 - New Evidence Presented47:30 - Andy Cortez Testifies Against Sunshine52:30 - Witness Testimonies55:05 - Crimes Against Mario's Fists1:01:30 - The GameCube Controller Debate1:04:00 - Closing Statements and Final Verdicts Catch us live every Monday at 9 PM ET on Twitch!Support the showJK! Super Mario Sunshine is officially on trial. In Part 1, Jerica steps in as the prosecution, Kayla defends one of her favorite childhood games, and Josh serves as judge as we begin the case against one of Nintendo's most divisive Mario games. The prosecution brings multiple charges against Super Mario Sunshine, including frustrating controls, questionable design decisions, and Nintendo's rushed development timeline. The defense argues that nostalgia isn't the only reason this game deserves its place as one of the best Mario games. Will Sunshine be found guilty? We'll deliver the final verdict in Part 2.Timecodes00:00 - Start01:06 - Housekeeping04:52 - Court Is Now in Session10:56 - The Charges Against Super Mario Sunshine13:24 - Crime #1: Crimes Against the Player Experience18:20 - Exhibit A: Mario Doesn't Feel Like Mario22:00 - Camera Controls & Confusing Objectives32:02 - Nintendo Rushed Super Mario Sunshine?38:39 - Court Recess: Technical Difficulties39:29 - The Defense Takes the Stand42:42 - Community Witness Testimony44:58 - Defense Argument #1: The Vibes50:04 - Defense Argument #2: Innovation55:10 - Defense Argument #3: Mario's Community Service58:57 - Defense Argument #4: The Hideo Kojima DefenseSupport the showJK! This month on One More Game, we're revisiting Super Mario Sunshine to find out if one of our favorite Mario games still holds up over 20 years later. Before diving back into Isle Delfino, we're looking back at our personal history with the GameCube classic, discussing its rushed 18-month development, the creation of FLUDD, and why Nintendo almost gave Mario a water gun. We also talk about the 2020 Super Mario 3D All-Stars release and whether nostalgia has clouded our memories of one of Nintendo's most divisive mainline Mario games. Is Super Mario Sunshine still a masterpiece, or are we blinded by nostalgia? Note - This episode was originally released in April 2025. I've decided to add prior Bonus Round episodes to the main feed, sequentially and on a 1-year-plus delay, so that EVERYONE can enjoy these fun, classic gaming banter sessions. Patrons will still get NEW Bonus Round episodes every month, so if you'd like to catch up on the previous 13 months of Bonus Round, head over to Patreon and support the show at the Fire Flower level or higher.www.patreon.com/smashingbricks~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hey Retro Gamers, welcome back to Bonus Round! These monthly podcast episodes are Patreon Exclusives and available at the Fire Flower level of support or higher. Each month, my guest and I will put together some sort of list, ranking, or otherwise fun conversation, usually related to that month's main episode. These will be released on the 28th of each month, and hopefully will be the dessert you've been missing after the main course episode two weeks earlier! To kick off SBRGP Season 4, I thought it would be fun to go back to revisit and recap the games I played with my guests during Season One, Two, and Three of Smashing Bricks. Regular guest Anthony LaBella joins me for this Season Three ranking, and he's seeking redemption for dissing Crash Bandicoot in episode 18. I, on the other hand, am on a redemption arc for my most controversial verdict since Super Mario Sunshine, giving FFIX a little more love this time around. Anthony has played all but one of the games on this list, despite only being on the podcast for two of them. It was fun to get a third opinion on most of these, and to come up with an official Smashing Bricks game ranking for the third season. We'll be doing the same for Season 4 and all future seasons, and I hope you'll all take a minute to make your own rankings and share them in the Discord! Here are the games, unranked, in episode order:Sonic the HedgehogFinal Fantasy IXPokémon Red & BlueDemon's SoulsStar Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi OutcastSilent Hill 2PikminBraidBanjo-TooieKnights of the RoundTomb RaiderMega Man 2This was, of course, a lot of fun and laughs to record. Enjoy!

Community Couch See discord Dan - RetroLogic — 4/3/2026 12:04 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 12:04 AM The best is probably Mario Galaxy. But my favorite is Sunshine. 1 - Mario Sunshine pushed the "themed worlds" motif in a wholly new direction that hasn't been replicated since. All locations take place on 1 Island, and they never lose that aesthetic. But each world also has its own striking identity. 2 - "What are we going to do to Mario so it feels different from 64?" Give him a water gun/jet pack/rocket/speed boat. And the Splatoon-like muck cleaning is one of the most satisfying things in gaming to date. 3 - the major complaint I hear about this game is the few difficulty spikes which inform the unfinished nature of the shipped product. And I don't disagree. But I believe this game is worth more than the sum of it's parts. Isle Delphino is a place I want to live in. The secrets hiding in Delphino Plaza alone make this game worth playing. Your Wallet's Defense Attorney — 4/3/2026 12:33 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 12:33 AM Gotta go with Galaxy. My first 3D Mario was Super Mario Galaxy 2. For a long time the original Super Mario Galaxy was a game I had only gotten to play once, through the library. Which definitely added to the mystique of the game. The quiet moments in that game really make it's vibe, and they're something I think the Galaxy movie could have used. Also, the gravity stuff is probably my favorite mechanic in any Mario game. Gotta give some flowers to Sunshine though. Not my favorite game to actually play, but I love a lot of what it was going for. I love the interconnected world, and the fact they decided to zoom in really close to one theme. Really think it'd be cool to see another Mario game do something like that, maybe with a city or something like that? Also, you won't hear many people give the blue coins a lotta love, cause they were implemented in such a completionist unfriendly way. And as a completionist, that does suck, but I can't deny that they really give you a nice reason to explore the island. Also, I really like that each of the levels tries to tell a storyline with its missions. Almost feels like a precursor to what Odyssey would end up doing. neoprime33 (TimA) [nDAD], nDAD — 4/3/2026 1:12 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 1:12 AM The best, I've been told, is Galaxy, but I haven't played those, so the best for me is 3D Land. It's literately in 3D ... lol. I can't articulate why it is the best for me as well as you all do with your "bests" but that 3D Mario game made me smile and probably was the most I've ever wanted to squeeze out of a Mario game than any other I've played before. Maybe it is the best for me because it is the "Gateway Drug" for other 3D Marios - it eases me away from 2D Marios. lol Although, I also support the Mario Sunshine pick - I loved playing that game on the Game Cube. It was so different I didn't care that Mario went 3D. Hootz — 4/3/2026 9:27 AMFriday, April 3, 2026 9:27 AM Best: Super Mario Odyssey. That game is pure joy distilled into a video game. And honestly, the other games are great, but it's not even close. (Please note; I'm answering before I've had a chance to play Super Mario Odyssey 2: Donkey Kong Bananza) As for the next entry, just give us more joy. That's it. Don't know what that means gameplay-wise, so I'll let the developers figure that out. Also, Super Mario Sunshine is underrated, and better than Super Mario Galaxy and 64. That is all. From a polish standpoint, I think it does for sure. But personally? Ehhhh....Prime 2 is objectively a well made game. The polish is there, great story, graphics, soundtrack, exploration. It splits the game's map into 2 distinct worlds, and on paper that's a great idea (as Link To The Past proves). But in execution it seems to be little more divisive. And while some people love this game, I found the maps and dark world equal parts brilliant and frustrating as fuck.My guest this week is our resident Metroid junkie, Stpd Mnky. This week on The Game Deflators Podcast – John and Ryan dive into the cardboard chaos of Magic: The Gathering, unpacking their latest pickups and sounding off on the absurdity of collector booster prices. Is Wizards of the Coast pricing out its own fanbase? Meanwhile, John shares his progress on Final Fantasy VI and The Witcher, revealing whether pixel nostalgia or monster hunting is winning his attention. In the news, Nintendo stirs controversy by greenlighting Palland for the eShop, despite its uncanny resemblance to Palworld—a game currently embroiled in legal drama. Is this a bold move or a blunder? And for this week's retro review, the duo takes a slippery slide into Super Mario Sunshine for the GameCube. Does this tropical platformer still shine, or is it just a soggy mess? Nintendos Würfel feiert in diesen Wochen seinen 20.
This week on New Dad Gaming, it's all about the Nintendo Switch 2. Trevor and Jeff dive into Nintendo's massive announcement, breaking down the upgraded hardware, surprising launch titles, and some truly unexpected exclusives—including Dusk Blood, a spiritual successor to Elden Ring that's only coming to Switch 2 (!). Has Nintendo officially won over the dad gamers? The new Mario Kart World gets a lot of love too, with an open-world racing mode that mixes Burnout Paradise vibes with classic kart chaos. From dolphin drivers to the iconic Moo Moo cow, Nintendo's bringing the magic for kids—and the nostalgia for dads. Other highlights include: New features like Game Chat and Game Share that let up to four consoles play the same game without extra downloads. Switch 2's game streaming, 4K docked output, and 120Hz handheld support. The long-awaited return of GameCube games, including Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, and more. Launch titles like Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Street Fighter 6, and a Kirby racing game no one asked for. The dads also discuss the new Zelda Notes AI Assistant, a built-in game coach that eerily resembles something they just talked about on a previous episode. Is New Dad Gaming influencing the industry? They'll let you decide. Subscribe to the Podcast!

Dontcha just hate it when you and the Princess of your kingdom go on vacation together in her private jet to Italy, but then you also show up to vandalize everything with a brush, causing you to get convicted for all the graffiti the other you did? I know right, life sucks sometimes, but don't let that get you down. Brad, Rubie, and Luigi are here to talk about video games! Now doesn't that make all of the probation feel better? ------------------- Watch inkstar's run along with us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3nhWI-gmsI Listen to our commentary here: patreon.com/possiblybad

Best GameCube games. Best Metroidvanias. Best Nintendo games. Best games ever made. But it's not on my "best games I've ever played list", because I've never played it. Until this past week. (And for the record, yeah, it's probably on my best games list now).I tried it a little back when it came out, but I was new to the Metroid series, and the genre, and didn't quite get what it was throwing down. Now that I know what's up, I get why this is still one of the highest scored games on Metacritic and so many people love it. Metroid Prime is fucking sick. Is it my new favourite Metroid game?? hmmmmm....listen and find out.My guest this week is one of the generous moos that made a $1,000 donation to my Extra Life stream last year, Blaine The Hoagie Man. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on Metroid Prime. We discuss the particular alchemy of combining Metroid's formula with the shooter format in a Nintendo vein, with comparisons to other shooter lineages and discuss what it means for level design, among other topics. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Up to Thardus (in theory) Issues covered: getting a power-up and not thinking the ball shape should work, being boneless, structuring the space as a first-person game, the see-lock-discover-power-revisit-lock loop, opening the map too much, both of us having hives, turning off hints, making notes, not hiding secrets in the same way as the 2D games, making the challenges visible, using the map to find negative space in 2D, scanning when you come into a room, the trauma of working on Nintendo, the capabilities of the GameCube and its media, the game holding up very well, managing the art direction, world continuity, gun dimensionality, looking at the world in one way, other shooters that have maybe the one thing, making a shooter that fits the franchise and not following others, going their own way, owning the space, making a system seller, translating enemy archetypes, translating the morph ball into a sort of 2D space, morphing back into Samus and moving the camera, first-person dive rolling, a digression on the music and translating it to a higher quality way, be inspired to play the games from the 'cast, cardboard shenanigans.
